I'm currently struggling with adding KO echoes to Shingo's voice samples (a feature present in most Capcom fighters, including CvS2, SNK games do not have this, and therefore none of Shingo's KO voices have it); the process apparently involves adding echo and reverb, but I've really only managed to get the echo part sounding good.

For testing purposes, I've been using this rip from KOF98 of King. King's voice in KOF98 is exactly identical to the ones used in CvS2 (except of course the KO voice, which has all that post-processing to make it echo), so that makes it very easy to use as a test case to try and reproduce Capcom's echo sound. For reference, here's the CvS2 one.

But yeah, I've basically hit a brick wall. Has anyone here done anything like this, or know what the best settings might be? I'm really not an audio guy, so all this stuff is Greek to me.

I think the issue of relating to these characters who are super old is just an unavoidable aspect having them linked to real world events; it's a problem that has to solved as time goes on, and I think generally the various creators who've worked on these characters have managed to do it.

Like, take Captain America, for instance. When Kirby and Lee revived the character and introduced the element of him being frozen at the end of WWII, that played very differently than it does now. Back then, Captain America's stint in the ice only lasted barely 20 years: he was still very much a "man out of time", but he still was in a world that was recognizably his own. As time progressed, however, the sliding timescale at work at Marvel meant that the time Captain America spent in the ice kept getting longer and longer, which naturally has changed the dynamic considerably. It used to be pretty easy to introduce a character that Cap knew back in the 40s (like Cap's childhood friend Arnie Roth, who first appeared in the 1982 as a guy who'd be in his 60's) and play off the that gap in time. But that story probably couldn't work now, at least not in the same way; heck, we're going to approach to the point soon where it'd strain credulity that anyone is still alive that Captain America knew before he was frozen. They're already starting to explore that kind of thing in his current book, but it's only gonna get worse, and new problems will continue to pop up too (we're only 2 decades out from the point where Captain America will have been frozen for a full century, which is gonna be a real trip).

In the end, though, even with all the complications and issues that have arisen from Captain America's origin being fixed to WWII, he's had an extremely good track record of keeping the character and his relationships updated and adapted to fit the "present", even as the present keeps moving forward and forward. And I totally think the same is possible with Magneto.

Also sidenote I really really really fucking hope that if they do use Magneto, they just skip the villain stuff. Almost every X-Men movie has heavily featured him either as a full-on villain (the first three movies) or even just kinda mostly one (the First Class movies). I'd honestly be way more interested in seeing the fully reformed Magneto-as-headmaster of the 80s (like what the X-Men 97 show is doing) or even just modern (post 2004ish) Magneto where he's just straightforwardly an X-Men ally.

I don't really see the issue with Professor X being black. Also, black people can in fact be Jewish!

But I very seriously doubt Marvel would be interested in changing much with regards to Magneto.  Even with all the uncertainty about how exactly they'll be incorporating mutants into the MCU, I don't think they'd be that dumb as to change something so charged and meaningful as Magneto's backstory. Plus the age thing is an issue that could be easily addressed in just a couple of lines, with many different solutions available. It barely even would require much creativity! It could even be something as simple as "Magneto's powers cause him to age slower because something something magnets".

since its' early days, x-men as a concept has been intertwined with the civil rights movement and the struggles of marginalized peoples, so i personally don't see anything wrong with casting people of color as prof. x/magneto. and you're right on with hoping feige and co. use the full scope of mutants in the mcu. imo i don’t wanna see wolverine anything for at the very least the first "mutants" movie.
The mutant metaphor is a hugely crucial piece of what makes X-Men so powerful (and popular), but contrary to what Stan Lee loved to claim, it was simply not at all present in those original X-Men books (that stuff he said about Professor X and Magneto being based on MLK and Malcolm X respectively is similarly 100% untrue, and also is honestly insanely insulting to both men). That lack of the mutant metaphor is one of the reasons X-Men was one of the only Marvel books that got cancelled in the 60s, because there wasn't much there there. It wasn't until the Chris Claremont run, 15 years later, that all of the big mainstays that people associate with X-Men (including the metaphor of mutants as a marginalized minority) started to take shape.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Useless and off-topic posts like these will he deleted. They have absolutely nothing do to with this game.

I'm sure you can find many communities where you can whine about snowflakes and other imagined enemies, but it sure ain't here.

If I, for the sake of fucking argument, identified as a 10 year old kid, do you have to comply? Are you to let me fall asleep next underage children and allow me around them?
Gonna stop you right here. This is a complete hypothetical with no real bearing on the real world. Like sure, someone out there in the world has probably done this, but it's not something recognized as legitimate by any society, by medical science, by any government, or anything. To fully dissect and explain the vast gulf in differences between these two situations is simply beyond the bounds of this not only topic, but this entire forum, frankly.

Suffice it to say, this hypothetical is simply not at all comparable to trans people, not even remotely.

This topic is rapidly devolving into some weird areas and I don't think any of this is or will shape up to be very productive. And of course, it's all pretty much entirely off-topic. So, it's time to nip all of this in the bud:

  • It seems pretty clear that the developers intend Bridget to be trans. This topic shouldn't be debated any further.
  • Repeatedly and intentionally misgendering someone is, in fact, transphobic. You, of course, are free to do and say whatever you want in your private life, but don't be surprised if you suffer consequences for that speech. Like that speech being accurately described as transphobic. Or penalized in some way by the mod staff, if done in this forum.
  • Doing or saying something that is transphobic is not a stain that forever scars the soul. It is simply an accurate descriptor of certain behavior. A person that does something like that can either recognize that their behavior harmed people, and choose to avoid repeating that action—or they might choose to ignore that and carry on as they are. It is therefore not helpful to treat the accusation of transphobia as a nuclear strike that is meant to forever silence someone or ruin their reputation.

I am hopeful that no further moderator action will be necessary.

I absolutely love all of that!

I liked 2000 song particularly... with my almost inexistant understanding of japanese language it always sounded like :
A song about the way of fighter/fighting... (because of "kobushi ni") then blablabla. then It's not finished yet (because of the "mada da" part)

Again, this version of Shingo looks more and more complete than ever...
Yup; I'm like 99% sure that both the 2000 and 2001 winposes are him singing lyrics to various anime OPs and/or EDs. I'm just not sure what they might be.

Here is a concept for the special intro vs Sakura I plan to add:

Nothing here is final, I might decide on something else, but I think this would work pretty well.

I've been otherwise finishing up sorting through his various voice rips; I even figured out how to rip from Dreamcast games so that I could get rips of KOF 1999. No, not the first game in the NESTS saga, I'm of course talking about The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999. Yes, Dreamcast has two games named KOF 99.

Anyways, I ripped those voices because they're much higher quality than the compressed and tinny-sounding sounds used in the Neo Geo versions. It's unfortunate that SNK didn't use any of the higher quality recordings featured in the console ports of this era for the UM games, but it's likely that they simply lost that data.

The 98 rips will be the primary source I'll be drawing voices from, but I'll also naturally have to use stuff from other games for moves/winposes/etc. that Shingo didn't have yet in 98. This lead me to checking out rips from KOF All Star (since Takehito Koyasu—Shingo's VA—is one of the very few VAs who was not purged and replaced by nuSNK for games starting with KOF XIV), and I found a really cool voice sample that is a really nice showcase of Koyasu's range.

I'd love to find some way to use it, but I don't actually know what he's saying, and there are unfortunately no translations of All Star dialogue that I could find. If anyone happens to be able to translate it, I'd really appreciate it.

And on the topic of translation: did you know that Shingo has a bunch of references to mecha anime in his voice lines, beginning with KOF 99? I was able to recognize a few obvious ones, but I'm like 99% sure a few of his other voice lines are references to... something. I just don't know what. I'm planning on doing something a little special to celebrate these references in the character, so I want to make sure I'm getting everything.

winpose where he starts singing, KOF 2000 said:
拳にやどた、命の炎が...あいて、まだ終わってないて!
Kobushi ni yado ta, Inochi no honoo wo ga... Aite, mada owatenai te!
"The flame of life, enchanted by my fist... Wait, it's not over yet!"

winpose where he starts singing, KOF 2001 version said:
赤、青、黄色、紫の、拳にやどだ...あ、まだだのに。
Aka, ao, ki iro, murasaki no, kobushi ni yado ta, a, mada da no ni.
"Red, blue, yellow and purple, enchanted by my fists... Ah, not yet."
These are all sourced from the SNK wiki, and as such can't be relied upon as exact, correct transcriptions of the dialogue. An additional point of difficulty is that for the quotes I was able to recognize, Shingo's rendition is not 100% accurate to the original quote (for example, his NESTS saga taunt has him quoting First Gundam's famous "Brightslap" scene, but Shingo says "not even my parents ever hit me!", where Amuro instead says "not even my father ever hit me!").

These two reasons made it pretty impossible to just Google the phrase and do some digging, but hopefully someone out there is able to recognize what the two remaining things are quotes of. If they even are quoting something...

Thor Four:
I really liked it, like easily the best post-Endgame movie. And shit, I think it's better than Infinity War and Endgame too (which I honestly don't care for that much). I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Ragnarok, but I think it does a really good job adapting the Gorr the God Butcher arc and Jane as Thor arc and melding them into a single story that also makes sense given the previous movies.

In other words, I can't really call it a great movie, but it is pretty good, and doesn't make any major, catastrophically misguided adaptation choices that so many other recent MCU projects have fallen into the trap of making.

Ms. Marvel:
pretty OK show; all the civilian stuff and family history was really, really well done. It's just that the origin of her powers and the villains especially feels... pretty misguided and really under-cooked.

Troy went back and touched up a few anims to make them more consistent:

I really love Shingo's revised face here, it fits the mood so well. This spriteset has quite a few moments where Shingo's face becomes a lot more cartoony than his usual expression/sprite style, and now I honestly feel like the original KOF sprites are lacking for not doing the same!

That's also the case for autoguard; one of the hurtboxes will be designated as having autoguard properties. It's pretty easy to see on Kyo's QCF+HP, where his usual head hurtbox gets stretched out and moved down-forward, where it covers his body hurtbox.

When the autoguard period ends, the head box moves back to its usual location, and resumes working like a normal hurtbox.

Since the hurtboxes never change for parry; it's pretty safe to assume that the body and possibly the head hurtboxes simply change properties to a parry box (but otherwise stay the same size, shape, and position) while the parry window is active.

It should be possible to test which boxes specifically have that parry property with the hitbox viewer, although it probably would be pretty tedious.

Shingo is still currently in progress; I've finished all his sprites, and also updated Kyo in order to fix hitbox and velocity errors (these stem from a miscalculation in the CheatEngine script that grabs data from CvS2). Now that Kyo is all fixed, he can be used as a base to actually code Shingo. I'm currently finishing up the animations and hitboxes and from there it'll be the actual "coding" part, which is pretty simple, because Shingo and Kyo share so much in common.

I've also been experimenting with some stuff; originally I wanted Shingo to flip forward after hitting the ground, so he'd go back to his normal faceup liedown, but I haven't been able to get that to look good at all. So I'm just going to add facedown liedown. And so Shingo will uniquely be the only character of mine to have both a face up and face down liedown.

I just have to edit a few Kyo frames to get this all to work, but it is quite difficult for me, so if anyone could lend a hand, I'd really appreciate it.

Question.  Is it possible to seperate the leg color from the skin so we can give him visible socks?
It's possible, but there's like less than five sprites that show his ankles/upper feet, so I'm not sure it'd be worth it. Plus, my goal with Shingo's separation was to do something that was relatively toned down and simple... you know, relatively.

... compared to B.B. Hood, this is toned down! Also, I want him to mostly match up with Kyo's CS.

I found some stuff buried several folders deep in my Chun-Li project folder.

There's two folders in here, one labeled "felo sprites" and the other labeled "Old felo sprites". The former has stuff from Felo's second and more expansive set of animations, while the latter are the original versions of these sprites, at least as far as I can tell. A good example of this are the sprites for Tenshokyaku: the old version is based on SvC, whereas the new one was based on SFA sprites.

(as a sidenote, the versions of these anims that are used in my Chun-Li use a mixture of sprites from the old and new folders)

Most of these aren't the original, Felo-CS'd sprite sheets (there are one or two of those however), instead I could only find separate, aligned and re-CS'd sprites. But I do believe these are the original versions; the only difference between them and the actual original sheet Felo made is the color separation.
