Pac-Man is basically the icon of gaming itself. Contrary to Mario's description, Pac-Man is the true icon of gaming.

And Bayo's a icon? Dante and Kratos are action icons. She's just KINDA another action character.

Kratos is a Sony exclusive so that would never happen. Dante could've worked but I imagine him being in Playstation All-Star Battle Royale didn't help. Bayo is kinda just "the best of what's left."

Even so, Cave Story's reach is probably way less than anyone would like to admit. If you ask someone what their favorite indie game was, chances are they'll say something that broke out into the mainstream and became successful (ie: Five Nights at Freddy's). For all that Cave Story did, it's not very visible.

Someone from Metroid (Sylux, Ridley, hell the SA-X Idaf anymore)
Simon Belmont
Someone from F-Zero. I'd say Black Shadow, but at this point I'd take Blood Falcon even if he was a blatant Captain Falcon clone.

I guess I'd also like:

Squirtle
Ivysaur
pichu

Only so that every returner came back, not because I'd actually want them.

It likely helped that Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive, thus they had the assets all readily available.

I sure as hell am enjoying their Groove Coaster game that they've been updating frequently.

So are people forgetting Bayo is the Ballot winner or something?

Oh I know she won the ballot, but the big thing to remember is that the ballot was more of a suggestion box. They looked for popular trends and went with the popular one that was also able to be incorporated into the game. If it was truly by popular vote then the winner probably would've been someone completely impossible to put in (ie: Goku, Shrek, Spongebob, etc etc).

Or it was by popularity vote and they disregarded all the votes for characters that would never be in. They did say she won the ballot within the realizable characters.

yeah she's one of the few characters that has a direct explanation for why she's in the game (first feasible choice from popularity poll) so i'll take that instead of supposedly being an action game icon

Bayonetta isn't even all that popular a character and her inclusion in the game is basically an advertisement for the NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE Bayonetta 2, a game that hasn't even cracked a million sold units, by the way. The whole thing was a big flop. Ballot was rigged from the start.

It would be fun ..and super weird..almost badass trollish if Nintendo and Activision would announce a collaboration in the form of Spyro the Dragon in Smash Bros, followed by an exclusive new Spyro the Dragon game that adds the Skylanders Universe to Spyro without the toy-stuff and is initially a back-to-the-roots 3d platformer.


A tiny bit more likely is maybe a Rabbit or Rayman character since there is this Mario / Rabbid crossover rpg for Switch.

Rayman would at least totally fit into Smash Bros.
