Title: Moderator Discussion/Feedback
Post by: Sepp on September 07, 2007, 06:26:52 PM
To get started with this approach, random people have been given moderation powers for this section. Haha. If you're among the candidates but don't want to be, just say so.

This is just meant as an additional small help to perhaps make this section more usable: users who should be able to help out with moderating a bit when and if they feel like it. Doesn't mean they have to run this board or watch over it all the time or anything, and you shouldn't expect them to.

They're not responsible for fulfilling your requests, either! Obviously.

Now, who wants to have nothing to do with it, and--who else want or should be added??

Wow... didn't even notice I was a mod for a bit. Cool. Maybe now I can get rid of some of that flaming there.

I don't think it was that random... All the new mods seem to be people who spent time on the requests without being leecher-like.

Yeah, that did come to mind when I saw Blue was also a mod.

Granted, it *shouldn't* be that random anyways.

Hey kewl I'm a moderator  :D. Didn't notice till...about 2 minutes.

So let me get this straight, we are more of a "free-lance moderators" right? Not obliged to moderate every damn moment the request sections, but to keep an eye on it every know and then ???.

And our main job is to moderate stupid requests, total noobs, rude people, and the likes?

And finally, is the 1-thread-per-user function functioning now? Or not. And when it triggers, we'll have a notice? It's been done.

Oh, I'm SO gonna (ab)use my moderator powah  :mugoi:.

Edit: I fucking need to read more closely.

Absolutely...I think we all should do it, actually...and maybe to be pains in their asses, we should keep telling them they never actually NEED a character until they stop :sugoi:

Erm... I have a problem. Yesterday I moved two topics to another thread. And now, that I wanted to stary my own request thread, it said it redirected me to my "original thread", which is one of the threads I moved  :S:

"You can only have one topic in the request forum.
You were redirected to reply to the one you had already created.
Subject: Re: MOVED: request special effect sprites"

Could any administrator help me out with this one? I'd like to have my real request thread :P.

I would like to become a mod in the request section since i can deal with hectic stuff like this.

I was a mod before on a GTA:San andreas online server (yeah, there is a modification for GTA:SA which can enable multiplayer),which i had to deal with the worst noobs far more worse than any leecher here, and that in a real-time game.

Haha. I moved the MOVED topics to the recycle bin. (You could have done that yourself.)

This is a drawback of the 1 topic only modification... hmmm... well then, just don't post MOVED topics when you move a topic. You can still use the PM feature when moving topics to at least inform the topic starter, that will have to do here.

Replying to the other posts tomorrow, sleep now.

Bleh, at least the request section is way cleaner than before. Hurray for us the moderators and this 1-thread-per-user idea  :kungfugoi:

You're just pissy that I told you not to needlessly spam topics :sugoi:

But really, the guild lost nearly all respect with the new rules, and if I have to be an asshole to some n00b who doesn't feel like going to Google and typing in "Spiderman MvC Mugen," and getting his results in two seconds, I will. It's not like the section is teaching them how to do the work for themselves, its reinforcing the fact when someone's just going to hand everything to them on a silver platter, contrary to the way things work for the rest of us, and everywhere else.

The Guild needs its respect back if its actually going to see growth from this. We need to show the creators elsewhere who absolutely despise what's happened that we at the guild simply aren't screwing them over, and that the community can benefit from the way things are here, that this isn't just some place for leechers to come and request something thats online simply because they're lazy. We need to set an example for everyone else, especially those who left, that hey, the Guild isn't JUST a place for leechers and the sort, but its still THE place to go, as it was once before.

It's Honkey's 4 step program. Try to give 'em a warning, then threaten the lock. For those too ignorant, lock = win.

On a side note: Seeing as how Infantry at least has a database going, should we add that to the 4 step program. It's real helpful for people to determine "online-ness".

And... DISCUSS!

Me aproves it .

I've noticed the increasing numbers of requests of characters that are online or don't even exist. Like, they request the first goddamn thing that comes to their mind. Oh fellow mods, what should we do? Redirecting them to the "does this exist" thread is obvious, but some guys really need a more harsh solution.

I mean, the requests are open to anyone. But that doesn't mean you can act stupidily on it.

It is NOT a moderator's job to fulfill requests.  A moderator's job is to make sure the forum rules are followed.

Heh, I thought of a little experiment.

In the "5 Steps for Finding Chars" thread, add clausule that said (if you didn't find your char/stage):
"Copy this in your Request Thread:
Quote
I've done the 5 Steps but couldn't find my desired creation. Thus, I make a Request.
"
or whatever.

Now, the people who actually looked at that thread would copy that sentence into their request threads, then us mods would know he tried his best for his own and wasn't lazy, and viceversa.

Yeah, it doesn't affect in any way, but I thought it could be kinda interesting. Also, I wanted moar discussion :P.
Title: Re: The experiment continues...
Post by: Siebzehn on December 01, 2007, 02:49:01 AM
I've had an idea similar to that before. But what if people read this and *not* the 5 steps? And just posted it there so they have an excuse to be lazy?
Title: Re: The experiment continues...
Post by: The Lord of the Flies on December 01, 2007, 02:58:18 AM
Well, those kind of people wouldn't use the 5 steps anyway, so I guess they waste 3 minutes of their life :mugoi:.

Now, let me put this hypothethical case, Wujizah:
The word spreads that you have to put that phrase to have your requests been taken seriously. I (a random guy) enter the "5 Step Thread" with the purpose of copy/pasting that line, but then I, by chance, have a glimpse at the steps: "Hmm...maybe that works...O SHI! it worked :D."

I'm damn sure it would increase the usage of the 5 steps at least a little bit.

you should really clean up the stickies. right now there are no less than four rule-related threads here - might as well merge them all up into one with all the rules and guidelines in a bunch.

and this one should be renamed to "moderator discussion / feedback" or something, to make it obvious that it's not a rule thread.

Oh yeah I also thought of something - when someone makes a thread here, I could add a check if the rules thread has been marked as read, and give an error if it hasn't. thoughts?

Agreed, agreed, and awesome idea.

*This thread renamed*

Well, my fellow moderators, here are my ideas...

We keep K.O.D.'s rules thread (maybe change the title)
We insert Cyanide's "Private Vs. Rare Vs. etc..." thread into it as a quote.
We do the same with Sepp's "How requests work"
Maybe we should remove the testp workfiles thread?

That will turn 4 threads into 1.

I can get right on this as soon as I get home from work (about 9 hours from time of last edit).  Unless someone objects before that time.

Any other suggestions/ideas?

Insert them as the second and third posts, but yeah. Also, use more formatting. [hr] and [b] are your friends :)

I renamed the testp workfiles thread so it's obvious it's a kind of request, not a should-read-sticky.

New rules are up, old rules are deleted, added "5 Easy Steps" as 2nd post, added "Looking for Music" as 3rd post, and added "Private Vs Rare etc." as 4th post.

Seriously people, the double-posting's gotta stop.  Every time I check this board, I have to merge posts in at least 3 threads.
Title: Re: Moderator Discussion/Feedback
Post by: Koldskool on February 01, 2008, 04:46:15 AM
I'm considering making a slight change to the bump rule.  What I'm thinking is ALLOWING double-posting as long as there is at least a week between posts.  But, if it's just a blatant bump, it's an instant topic lock.

Thoughts?
Title: Re: Moderator Discussion/Feedback

Title: Re: Moderator Discussion/Feedback
Post by: Koldskool on February 01, 2008, 03:41:58 PM
Adding another request would be acceptable.  I.E.  "I'm also looking for..."

Just repeating a previous one would be just a bump.  I.E. "Anyone?" or the popular "fine fuck u guys then."
Title: Re: Moderator Discussion/Feedback
Post by: Siebzehn on February 01, 2008, 05:44:45 PM
I'm still not unlocking that one thread (the one where "fine fuck u guys then" came from). 24 hours isn't long enough if he's going to have that attitude. For not reading the rules, maybe a day or two, although it wouldn't do much to some who don't request that often, as well as the fact that there are other forums with request sections. But for being an asshole, it should be indefinite.

Can we Please Clarify the rules about sending online Mugen creations.

The Section Description says: "Please do not abuse this section and only request something if you find yourself unable to get it any other way."

Which to me clearly says that one should not request online creations here.

Also in this post - http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=71750.msg598293#msg598293.  Honkey answered me directly about the Online sending policy.

Yet, Here - http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=79436.msg683681#msg683681, KOD states there is no such rule.

So can the admins please Clarify the rules of this section regarding this issue.  I understand that you wan't as little rules as possible.  But there is no reason we should be sending online creations, It's disrespectful for the creators who actually keep their creations online for people to download.  I don't believe the request section should be a free ticket for those who don't want to take more effort to find things.

Title: Re: Moderator Discussion/Feedback
Post by: K.O.D on May 24, 2008, 08:19:30 AM
Let's see.

If the creation is online and does not require any registration, special permissions, crap, etc. then link to the creator's website.

If the creation is online but requires registration, special permissions, crap, etc. then sending them would be no problem.

However, there is no set rule for this, it is entirely up to the posters ethic or w/e.

Um, actually I'm pretty sure to always have been dedicated and responsible in that section as my posts show. My demotion had to do more with stuff that happened at the spam section of other forum, was not related to anything that happened here at all.

I've never done something wrong here during the years I've been helping and if I did, someone will have to point out what was. In fact I've even helped you more than once despite the way you treat me and I also help on moding some other request areas.

Well, people do ask too many questions and I do respond all I can daily. If you refer on how I don't respond to you sometimes, answer should be obvious. In the past I've helped you tons of times, sometimes it costed me a couple of hours to find you a stage.

Yet you decide to cause me trouble. So yeah, I kinda just move to the next person asking for help, you're not like incentivating anyone to be friendly with you dude. I do still help you though, and the board has proof.

As for "power abuses" they were just some mutings here and there and they were asking for it. As said, it's not something that ever happened here while I moded.

also gonna add why you putted in your sig that picture of assassin just after so many people asked for him and you are not responding to his status neiter very unmodlike

Well, to be honest a friend offered a video for him for the underground area and he has not brought it yet, I was waiting for it. It's kinda like patch and needs a lazy post that I never made.

But I was just gonna post the location at this evening and answer, hopefully I manage. And it's not like the first time I place strange stuff in my sig, dunno how much of a crime is. In the end I always answer.

Edit: Typo fix.

You're not like incentivating anyone to be friendly with you dude. Tough I do still help you though, and the board has proof.

Plus, that doesn't happen with anybody else but you. lol.

If someone doesn't like you, you gotta face you ask for it.

You've been around for longer than me, and I have to tell you what's right for a mod to do? For shame

Just because you don't like a person doesn't mean you ignore them. That's called not doing your job. You've shown tat you can't do your job when not a mod, what's there to make people think you can with modpowers?

That was just a photobucket prank, you don't need to take it so seriously.

...it's an attack at another forum, and community. Last time I checked, mods don't do that.

As said multiple times, I don't ignore you all the time. I just moved you to the bottom of the help list and you were asking for it for sure. Since there's a LOAD of people to help anyway, if you're asking for priority over the rest maybe you should be a better person at least. It doesn't make me a biased monster, it makes me human.

In comparison, I should help way more. And you're generalizing as if I do that with everybody.

That was just a photobucket prank, you don't need to take it so seriously.

That's funny, because the last time I checked you were mod at other forums and you don't have a prob on attacking IMT and everybody that you can daily.

Plus, I used to like them anyway, they started with me one day for nothing and the place is full of mods anyway.

It's just request moderator, it's not like he's going to ban someone. If he deletes your request thread through bias, MFG has active administrators anyway, so it's not really likely to happen. Unless, conspiracy?! o_O

On the other hand, I've never seen someone try so hard to be a moderator of the Request Section, this was even discussed when Titiln demoted Wolfmage through bias. LMAO!!!!!

In my honest opinion, the mods of the request section should be changed. Considering that I barely see any of them helping out anyone in the request section, that fills up with questions almost daily.

Mods I would recommend are:

http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?action=profile;u=28336

http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?action=profile;u=30960

http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?action=profile;u=42377

http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?action=profile;u=30576

Just a handful of people I think would do a pretty good job.  :P

Moderators of the request section aren't chosen on the basis of having every single information regarding every single piece of content that was released for Mugen. You should read the post that my fellow moderator left in the other thread.

Always seen it done the other way around. Except for the request board.

Otherwise you might as well give out mod positions to the people that report the most problems.

Oh you mean like Orochi Gill?

On a side note, if I may, C.A.N., you aren't ready to be a mod. For starters, you need a firm comprehension of how the English language works. Study the implications of using a metaphor over a simile, become adept at proper sentence structure, and learn how to tell whether people are using euphemisms or sarcasm.

Aside from that, I remember being a mod on Randomselect YEARS ago, and on day one, I accidentally banned a guy I thought was trolling. He wasn't, I had to unban him, and apologize for that, tell him I was new at it, blahblahblah. In the end, moderation was less "I'm a god in this board" and was more "Welp, better move some topics." (Sidenote: I also had to run every decision by Kung_Fu_Man at the time, and while you should be thankful you don't have to deal with THAT guy on this board, it's still not a fun job)

The job is less being a politician and more being a janitor.

If I still haven't convinced you against it, here's one more argument: you have to avoid the urge to ban the shit out of drewski and Pikachu guy.

It's more I tend to misinterpret things on text. Either I'm too serious or I joke too much. I don't see how I'm using improper sentence structure. If I am using improper sentence structure, please give me a few specific examples or tell me as you see it happen. I've got to improve somehow.
