I agree with both.  It is especially irritating trying to keep track of who's who with some of the name-changing whores as Walt mentioned. :-\

When you have a forum that stringently enforces guidelines like this one, it's obvious that there will be more "rule-breakers" and such.

Well, people like that are to be expected in even the best of the forums, so I think what is truly important is if they're willing to shape-up and learn after they made their share of "newbie" mistakes.

This isn't a request board. Do NOT request stuff here, nor ask if something has been converted.
You can do that there (for characters) and there [/url] only

I would've thought that because this forum is one of the oldest it should be at least better than most of the forums around.

But the people that are here make the forum, so the mods are not to blame.

Who exactly are you answering to ???  I didn't see anyone here blaming mods about anything.

...but...I think that by forcifully shoving it in front of their faces, it COULD still be an extra line of protection from unintentional rule breaking.

What you guys said didn't work is because the consequences are not made clear enough in the 1st place.  Hence, what could be done is that, before announcing what the rule is, write in large, bold and colorful letters saying

"MODERATORS ARE CONSTANTLY MANAGING THESE BOARDS.  REFUSAL OF FOLLOWING THESE RULES WILL RANGE FROM GETTING YOUR POSTS DUMPED TO DENIAL OF THE PRIVILEGE TO THESE REQUEST BOARDS!!!!"

After that, you put the request rules.  Finally, you have the user OK that he/she has acknowledge it, and that anything they do that violate the said rules will be swiftly punished accordingly.

When you have a very-large written warning like that, it should garner most user's attention, and motivate them to read the rules.

To summarize:

1)  User registers the board, user is shown the unrequestable rules guidelines.

2) User reads it

3) User OKs it

...and make sure to tell the user that, these rules are stickied, and should always be used as guidance in future posting of requestable boards.

What about making it so that newly registered people must have/are forced to read the unrequestable rules and OK it before being able to access the request boards?  Is that also not a possibility?  Maybe, some of the rule-breakers simply didn't know or didn't see (because they're short-sighted and careless) that these rules are actually stickied at the top of the boards.

So it could be the case that, if they had simply read the rules, they wouldn't have broken them in the 1st place, as opposed to not having read them at all and unknowningly/unwittedly breaking them.

Hey Snake, if you need an extra helping hand moderating the request board (moving and dumping bad requests), i'd be happy to volunteer.

Better yet:  Make it so that a user CANNOT access the request forums (somehow) UNTIL he/she reads the rules stickies.  (is it even possible?)

I hate to be a fuddie-duddie, but the Misc. Request board should also have a post that links to the Unrequestable list (or even reposting the same list on the Misc board), just like how it was before ....

-One last suggestion:  Change the title of the "Request Forum rules"
to "Request Forum rules AND Unrequestable Creations"

(Well, actually, Since Snake is the Modster, So I guess he could fix these!)

Well, I donated again not too long ago (Though it wasn't a whole lot), and I will likely do so again in the future....so MFG won't be taking anymore donations then?

@KFM:  I know of a counterstrike forum site that I visit frequently that takes donations as well; age range is between 15-35.  (similar to what it is here)

@Solid:  Your opinion is valued.   ;P

Neato.  I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a private chat-room implemented specifically for this site's members.  That one is likewise equally as good, I'm sure.

Valmeister!  Has anyone ever suggested implementing a live chat-room here in MFG?  I've seen quite a few other forums eqipped with it.

(Unless there is already ONE here somewhere in which I somehow didn't know about!)
