I'll be taking a look at these videos this coming week after work for sure! The location for something like this should be in Tips, Tricks, Tutorials though. Thank you for making this.
I was thinking of that section, But i figured it'll get more spotlight here. When i finish finish, i'll post it there with all the videos.I gotta code a elemental bullet system for her, and sound effects and minor things then i can release her.so maybe 2 or 3 more videos depending on how i plan things out.and your welcome about making it. Lately i've felt really distant from mugen and I figured if i quit mugen i want to leave my mark on the community. and what better way than to be the first one to release a full video tutorial on character creation?EDIT: Also i'll be sorta taking requests how to code certain types of moves, like for instance I've got a request for a ReversalHitDef tutorial, for coding reversals. I would use KFM as the dummy character in the video.
Fuck yeah Ryon. This is great. You should expand this a bit more with input from Cybaster and Cyanide if you ask me.Thanks for the share man, I'll gladly watch with full attention as I'd love to learn character making at some point.
Crimson Naga said, July 28, 2012, 05:28:23 amKnow if there's any tutorials specifically for creating sprites?Mmmm no not really, I could show my own style, but it is my own style and I can't draw people. sooo yeah.Saikoro said, July 28, 2012, 05:34:55 amFuck yeah Ryon. This is great. You should expand this a bit more with input from Cybaster and Cyanide if you ask me.Thanks for the share man, I'll gladly watch with full attention as I'd love to learn character making at some point.I'm sharing my knowledge of what I (ME) knows and how I (ME) does what i do in mugen. If i used there input it wouldnt really be from me it would be from them. And my goal of these videos are to show people how to make characters if good creations come out of this then awesome, if bad creations come out of this then awesome. At least people learn to make characters properly (by my standards)And both Cybaster and Cyanide are what I consider Mugen Heroes. I've been a fan of there works for over a decade. So I have nothing but respect for em both.
Didn't watch them yet, but the fact you've made them and I know you have standards already make them awesome to my book for newcomers. I'm usually more for written tutorials, since it's easier to read them and see the code directly, doign some copy-paste and research directly from the code and explanations, rather than from a video, but hey, videos have their advantage too, as showing progress in real-time and showing things interactively. Thanks for these.
Having never made a character I can't say anything about the info, but as far as a video tutorials go I don't think you need the annotation links to the other parts throughout the entire thing. Having them at the beginning and end would be fine, but having them constantly up there just blocks what you're doing sometimes defeating the purpose of a video. Sure people can turn off annotations if they want, but they might worry about missing other useful annotations.
the first video isnt anything really.its really just a small introduction, with how to find sprites, and a little idea of how to rip sprites.the 2nd video is really ripping sprites. But I understand your point, I wasnt sure if i should have had them throughout.Thank you Cybaster, I Hope it helps somebody.
I added part 8, which is not generally based around any certain set of characters, other than my own.But it is used as a form of review of helper coding, and projectile coding.as well as some interesting ways to make moves and supers.
Thank you a lot Ryon this stuff is amazing for begginers -and your voice is very relaxing Lol ! I just wanted to watch the 1st part but now i can't stop i'm gonna watch the hole thing
thanks dude. the first part isnt.... anything... so you really do need to watch the rest to learn something. lolI assume 2 more parts before shes ready for release.Part 9 - Elemental Bullet System 2 (Wind and Earth)Part 10 - Sounds, and Final Fixes.
Convenience at its finest. I'll be sure to give these tutorials a view in the case that I actually do intend on creating a character. It's always nice for someone to create a video despite some others having read through the documentation. I applaud your efforts, Ryon.
thank you.I'll finish up the video series once i get some quiet time.my nephew is staying with me for the summer (vacation.. joy!)and he's always around me and i dont need that when recording. Gotta do some planning for her moves to.
Thank you Ryon! Now I have more options in additional to mugen docs and kfm!How about, when you finish, can you compress your toturial files in RAR/ZIP for download?
i'll look into downloaded it from youtube.i dont have the encoded files, camtasia uploads it directly.and my camrec files are over 1gb each.
this is very cool, a very nice (& long) introduction to character making: i will definitely look into it!thanks for the great effort!
Just watched about 10 minutes of the 2nd sff video. It looks like you are taking sprites that have the correct axis and then adding them to mugen cropped. Why are you cropping the images in this phase? It seems to make you waste more time aligning the sprites. Would it not be faster to bring a sprite in that isn't cropped, set it's axis, then bring in the rest from the animation using the same axis info? For every animation after as well. For release you can crop the sprites but while working on it it seems better to leave them not cropped for easier reference. If I'm mistaken let me know. The character I'm making is my 1st but using my method seemed to create the sff much faster. Loving the tutorial thus far. I didn't even know that was what onionskin did About to watch the next video.EDIT: Since I didn't watch the video beforehand I wasn't aware that you got her sprites from a spritesheet. The next video shows it as well. The sprites looked like they were already aligned correctly as thumbnails. My bad. For some reason I assumed sprite sheets were obsolete I guess. Artmoney has spoiled me... Posted: August 15, 2012, 04:42:32 amIn your character creation tutorial part 4 can you add a link near the front to skip the AIR part of the tutorial and got to the coding? Or if it's easier just put a note in the comments that the CNS starts at about 30 minutes in. Just a convenience for someone that understands the air part of the creation already.
Ryon, i must thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to make such a fucking sweet tutorial: it puts light on MANY thing that were kinda hard to get just by reading the official docs!!i can actually understands how shit works, i love it!!
@ JustNoPointYeah i dont know how to use art money, i'm still using spritesheets.and will do about the note in part 4.also i could have sworn you make characters already? Thanks for viewing.
No, I just ripped sprites from several games years ago. I never actually finished a character then I stopped all mugen activities for about 4-5 years and worked on my comic. Not finished watching all of the tutorials. Really good job thus far though.
Updated the first page with a Auto Combo tutorial. for people who are trying to mimic the Persona 4 Battle system.Auto Combo System - General Codinghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ch-lZf7JfQ
Urgh, videos with commentary.... But anyway, is it necessary to make the sprites you showed in the spr.html file? (The one's that show your char is hit)
Do you mean the required sprites? They are called like that because they are needed for a char. All get-hits are necessary.
