Those Variations for the characters in Mortal Kombat X were a nice idea and I think the most of them were really thought out.

But what if Street Fighter or other fighting games would have variations for their characters?

Can you imagine three different variations for Chun Li or for Siegfried from SoulCalibur?

What kind of variations would your favourite fighting game character(s) have?

For some reason the first character I thought about was Zangief.

Could imagine him with

The Red Cyclone Variation
Zangief as we know him, but in his Red Cyclone outfit and 2-3 "trademark" moves that end with taunts similar to some wrestlers that are taunting their opponents after one of their signature or finisher moves.

Street Brawler Variation
They don't want to add Haggar to SF so lets give Zangief a variation where he looks like he could be a beat'em up character and make him playing a lot like Haggar in those games. Including a v-trigger maybe where he can get a typical Final Fight weapon like a pole or a chair

Mech Zangief

Remember that weird mech.zangief from Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter? His third variation could change his style to that slow thing that can't even block but takes reduced damage from the most moves. In addition to that he could have 1-2 unique special moves like a slow projectile as well as a super special that includes a beam or another projectile.

I woke up like 20 minutes ago and the first thought I had was "what if other fighting games had this variation thing from MKX" Can't get this outta my head now lol. Might use the idea for a redesign art contest in the future.

Jin:

traditional Karate- Standard moveset with extra traditional karate moves

Controlled devil gene - omen stance and those OP moves and strings he did in Tekken 6's co op mode (freezing people, lazers, close to infinite hookfist strings)

.......uhhh..... thats all i have..... MKX made shit up from the spot with the variations though so uhhh
Street fighter variation- The moves and projectiles he had in SFxT including Ex moves

Not too versed on MKX but I'll give it a go anyway.

Akuma/Gouki

Dankuma - Gains Dan-based taunt shenanigans, Shoryuken loses all range, Hadouken loses range, Level 3 taunt replaces SGS
A Kuma - Speed drastically reduced, moveset replaced with clawing, grappling and biting, salmon-related taunts, rolling and farting
White Belt Gouki - I'd actually like to play as a version of Gouki who is still learning, although I'd imagine he'd be more like Ryu?

3 was too many, 2 would've been fine.

Other fighting games do something like this. KoF has EX characters,  SF had isms in A3 and selecting supers in 3S,. Doesn't have a fancy name or anything but they do change the way they play.

It would be nice for more games to do this, clever way to add more chars while using less resources. And money.

Geese Howard variations:

-Aïkido: is normal style from fatal fury, only raging storm and reppuken for energie specials, can throw/counter attacks from P2, more normals combos.

-Nightmare style: with more energie specials (dash with blue flames on him, dragon punch from King of fighter or Arts of fighting...), move faster, few combo, all his specials throw you far away or make you fall.

-Boss of Southtown: a summoner style with his men, Raiden and Billy to do the dirty job. Few combo, only his specials from Art of fighting 2.

Krauser variations:

-Kaiser: his style from fatal fury

-Ultimate Warrior: many throws and a counter/grab, he is more a wrestler and have super amor. His blitz balls don't go far (like in kof 96)

-Immortal: he becomes more powerful as his life diminues. His supers give him back some life (10-15%)

Andy Bogard variations:

-Ninja brother: his normal style from fatal fury/Kof 13.

-Assassin style: His style from Fatal Fury 3, some of his move make you bleed

-Shy Andy: Mai Shiranui loves you too much and... you are shy. While in combat she try to garb you every 10 secondes. If  she grab you, you get 5% of your life +lv3 for energie bar... but you are stun for 2s if she grab you and you are vulnerable (a strong hit can make you dizzy). If you dodge her for 5 time in a round, Andy do a super pause on the screen, do some push-up and get + 30% damages for the rest of the round (just look the 3rd Fatal Fury anime/movie)  :D

The Russian.
(Or, the guy I wanna see in MUGEN, but can't make that true...)

======================================
-Wallbreaker.
Mainly it's grappler mode. But still, it got not much or those "Pro-Wrestlers". Only raw powered throws, slams, beatdowns and attemts to break enemy.
-Burning Passion.
He get's his arms burning. Make health get lower by time, but attacks (Especially throws) got just cheap damage. Movelist, of course, now is BareHand-based.
-CLUBBERING TIME!
This move is compeletely unbased on grappling. Mainly control of enemy and his stun, cause now he is aiming in his head. Completely closeranged.

The Red Cyclone Variation
Zangief as we know him, but in his Red Cyclone outfit and 2-3 "trademark" moves that end with taunts similar to some wrestlers that are taunting their opponents after one of their signature or finisher moves.
So basically Pikachu Libre.
Is finding MUGEN to be more enjoyable to play when you're not wearing clothes an underrated opinion?

Leona:
Melee Soldier - Close quarter combat focused on holds and powerful strikes and slash moves, anything to get up close. Additional combat knife included

Ranged specialist- More of her projectiles are focused, comes with her gun from Metal slug. Earring bombs are more tactical, she becomes a better thrower

Unstable- orochi blood is fighting, though not completely crazy. she does become a lot more savage and agitated. Faster and more combo heavy(at the cost of damage), comes with an extra move in which she takes down the opponent and starts slashing.

  • I have no idea what I'm doing.

R. Mika
  • Champion - Focuses on combination grapples a la Solomon Grundy and King. A very close-ranged style that has few options to get in, but can utterly wreck your shit.
  • Tag Team - Mixed-range, tricky style that sees Mika call Nadeshiko in for assists. Think a less broken Noob-Smoke focused on crossups, resets and general confusion.
  • Luchadore - A fast-moving style that takes cues from El Fuerte and similar characters. Mika can run all about the stage, and can supplement moves with "crowd appeals" that add various small buffs.

Kyo Kusanagi
  • Burning - "Shoto" variation. Traditional fireball stuff etc. Mostly focusing around his flame abilities
  • Determined - 98/Classic-style Kyo. Has all those weird rekka chains and a few extra moves besides.
  • Raging - Sort of an "Evil" variation based on the Kusanagi and Kyo clones. Sports the running command grab, altered rekka chains and more violent moves.

Mega Man
  • Bomber - Zoning style based on the longer-ranged or trap-based weapons - Tornado Hold, Quick Boomerang, Danger Wrap etc. Sets opponent up for combos from a safe distance.
  • Heroic - Closer to the classic MvC Mega Man, but with a few edits. Charge Kick is now a special move, for example.
  • Robotic - Calls in his robot helpers for assists - Rush, Beat, Tango etc. His super would defintely be Hyper Mega Man in this variation.

Fulgore
  • Nuclear - Season 1 Fulgore. Can charge up meter manually, but is overwise slow and somewhat clunky. Has the Devastation Beam.
  • Relentless - Season 2/3 Fulgore. Highly momentum based, with altered moves to accomodate a more rushdown style of play.
  • Spec Ops - A variation based on setting up traps and using cloaking to trick and confuse enemies. Would not have the Devastation Beam.

These are all I could come up with at the moment. I'll try to post more when I can think of them.

Goenitz
• King of Wind - his stance from KoF games.
• Servant Defense - gets two new moves - first one is reflecting the projectiles, and the second one is rekka, but on the other hand, he has lower health.
• Wind Trapper - same as the first stance, but the disadvantage is that he deals much less damage, but on the other hand, he gets new special move, which allows him to create traps where he wants. The EX version of this special move allows him to create two hurricanes between him or between his opponent.

Chun-Li
• Tai Chi - her normal stance.
• Rankyaku - has a flying-like move which allows her to begin an air combo, and has more air combos, but on the other hand, she doesn't have the Tenshokyaku and the Hazanshu.
• Renkiko - same as the first stance, but doesn't have the chain combos, but has the power-up, which allows her to do infinite before the super meter is ended.
