×: god forbid you EVER have to perform a system restore: you could either be backtracked or the file will vanish completely ( system restore claims to not modify personal data. command scripts are not considered personal data )

×: you can't double click to open it

a good replacement is ( anything else ) .CDS

Good point. There's no difference anyway. I could name my file extensions sexyasshit and Mugen would would still recognize them. Lol.

I can in Linux. :P

More seriously, you have a good point. I saw several creators use .lol or .txt or .cns for command files.

noted most definitely. For those of you using a Hp you'd better make preparations asap. won't be long before you are performing more then a system restore.

I agree, this has happened to me several times. I used to use system restore more than I oughta and I lost work because of it. I usually end up changing my command files to cmnd.

personally my cmd and config file is my readme.txt so i lost nothing of mine. i quit using this extension years ago.

this isn't just an author thing it's a player thing too. not only because lots of players ( especially lately ) like to edit commands ( and can't figure out how to OPEN the file if they're new to mugen ) but far more because it's unnecessary/undesirable to re-download an entire character(s) / full game just because one file (per character) is arbitrarily missing from using an extension it shouldn't even be using.

i got the idea from 608 but neutrally speaking .CDS should be a replacement standard.

Keeping data and OS in the same partition is a bad idea anyway. Most of the times I've found that fresh install is the best way to fix a f'up Win.

Have you posted this on the electbye side yet? Maybe they can include something about it in the readme or something too?

Ive lost several characters due to their cmds going away after a system restore.

It's just an elecbyte standard. It's not official and mugen will accept pretty much ANY extension for any file apart from .def (you don't label .def anywhere, it's what mugen needs to find) which is why people use .vns or .wls or .lol. It's also why mugen can read config.txt It's still a state file according to the .def so mugen reads it as such.

Yes, swapping to .cds or well... anything else would be a good idea.

I used to do right click and then "Edit" in the CMD files or even open then with FF.
My characters use the *charactername*_cmd.txt which work better than the outdated CMD file.

So...... Are you saying I should rename every single own of my character .CMD files tot eh new format? Or just the ones I'm currently using? I have a large collection of characters over the years, most of them use CMD files.

If a character is in a zip file, i don't think it should do any conflicting damage. Or does it still occur, even inside a zip file?
