Made a few adjustments to the NGPC sprites for Kyo and Iori to see if I could bring them closer to their regular counterparts. I believe the artist didn't want the hands to obscure their faces, which is why he "adapted" the stances, since these two keep their hands really close to their face. Hopefully this is an acceptable compromise. Iori's stance is somewhat, though not completely, based on Miss X's. Not because I couldn't draw it from scratch, but because I felt it was important for the sake of accuracy.

Top: Original NGPC stance.
Bottom: My edit.

It seems like every part of her body is just jittering at different intervals (i.e. not in sync). For example: compare the bottom half of her left leg (not viewer's) with the top half, to see what I mean. One part jitters, then the other, then one jitters twice, then the other once. It's a bit all over the place. The body should move together.

Does RE4 need a remake? The game has aged gracefully enough that they still keep churning out HD re-releases of the original. Content-wise it's still miles ahead of REmakes 2 and 3 (some would argue it's still a much better game).

I'd definitely go with CV first. That game hasn't aged well at all. If I were to remake RE4, I'd definitely go with the Shadow of The Colossus PS4 route.

Would this be an improvement? I don't know if I added too much detail

Just a few points to consider:
  • I like the top face, personally. Bottom one looks like he's looking up.
  • Sprite is using 46 colors. Not sure why so many (shoes should use the same color as the shirt). CVS Limit is 16.
  • It kinda looks like he's slightly standing on his tiptoes. Check the heigh difference beteen the toes and the heel.
  • The pants are shaded a bit oddly. Go back to a flat color, add a few more folds (use the original SNK sprite as reference, although keep it mildly simpler), then reshade.
  • Both his chest and pants could use a bit more light, since he's standing straight.

That was one option, but I actually figured out a better one! :D

I didn't want to double post and as I mentioned in the Discord, editing existing posts is not working.

I actually figured out I can replace the yellow in the belt with the lightest skin tones and that'll actually give me TWO left-over colors instead of just one. Now you may be asking "Didn't you complain about having ONE leftover color? Why would you want a second one?" Well, the answer is simple!

MR KARATE!!

I can give Takuma a mask at any time and I'll have two shades of red to work with. If Takuma had had 15 colors, then I wouldn't have had any leftovers for the red in the mask (or just one red instead of two). Yay!

He looks smaller, thinner and younger than his son.

His torso is bulkier than Ryo's by about 3-4 pixels (so are his arms and legs). Also, he IS shorter than his son (in addition to the fact that his legs are further apart and his head leans down a bit). I don't agree that he looks younger. I feel like the line on the side of his face does a decent job of adding a tiny jowl, denoting age. I could've added extra lines, but that would ruin the clean look CVS sprites typically go for.

Clark, attempt,

Pants look pretty good. So does the shirt. The rest of the sprite still looks a bit SNK-ish. I would trace the rest of it and shade it manually. Also, don't forget about the 15-color limit. The same way the pants and shirt share colors, you could have an extra dark blue solely for the hat and share the other blues with the pants.

I compared his head size with Ryo's and it's the same (his hair's much shorter, of course). Here's a zoomed-in version with Ryo wearing the same colors, so you can compare the general shading:

One thing I DO have is a color leftover (he's 14-colors, not 15. I used one on the belt for the heck of it, and I guess I could use an extra one in the hair, but his skin-tone hair just looks so much more CVS-ish that I kind of don't want to change it :P)

Here's my attempt using Ryo as reference:

Are you trying to convert it from the SNK version or are you drawing it from scratch? It just seems like more effort than necessary, unless you're doing a total spritesheet conversion in bulk, like Falcon Rapper usually does. I resized it and drew over it to give it clean lines, then placed the shading at the bottom, lightsource on top, then referenced Ryo's sprite for everything else (antialiasing, etc...).

im currently working on Standing Kicks

Looks nice, but I'm not sure it's very functional since it has no range (even his hand extends further than his leg). Might want to pull his front arm back a bit and have his back leg step forward just a teensy bit so that Hyoga moves a bit forward with the kick (and that way you can make him return back to his original X position without it looking awkward).

Hope to see it finished soon, man!

Honestly, the Hulkbuster super behaves exactly like Iron Avenger would, gameplay-wise i.e. it's a dash-charge that activates on contact, even if the rest of the animation doesn't play out the same way. Hulkbuster makes more sense as a Level-3, given that it's REALLY a last resort kinda thing.

I never understood Iron Avenger, to be honest. Why bother warping in a 2-ton Proton Cannon if he can just shoot a more powerful beam out of his arc reactor?

It doesn't exist in CVS2, no. His Yaotome is different in that game (exclusive to CVS2).

I know you want to work on your own original characters first, most likely, but... have you considered adapting a KOF that didn't make it to KOFXII/XIII first?

For starters, you have the advantage of having full-sheets of their classic sprites (KOF94-2003), which you can then use as references to pose the model appropriately (although you might need a few more in-betweens since the HD games tend have more frames of animation). I feel like it'd be a huge learning experience for when you want to work on your own character later. It's also easier to draw people in to the project with characters that already have a fanbase and then take advantage of the attention to push your own OC's later.

You've nailed the shaders. The animation still looks a bit choppy/twitchy and awkward, tho.

I recommend studying up on the concepts of windup, follow through, inertia, pivoting, etc... This one's a good one:

Finally arrived! (overseas shipping is always fun) This is now the 3rd SRW game I own, hope they continue making their trend of making English language releases for South East Asia!

As long as people keep buying them, I'm sure they will. They finally found the perfect loophole to not have to re-license all those franchises for an overseas edition.

@Graphicus: You definitely did, I had no idea that sprite existed prior to me doing my own. It's a blessing and a curse to see how others interpret different details, to wonder whether they're spot on or not.

It was one of my earlier attempts, so I haven't checked, but I'm sure there's a lot of room for improvement. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was bothered enough by the inconsistency between the artwork/profile pics and the sprites to try to make an edit attempt. Keep it up!

I did the same thing as one of my first CPS2 edit attempts years ago (see my Graphics thread), but it’s fun to see someone else give it a try. :)
