Welcome to the Hatsune Miku: Project MUGEN S.P. Portrait Thread. If you already own my motif and template, you can skip my lecture and continue on to submit your portraits, or request portraits here. For those who do not own it but want to contribute in making portraits, here are the following templates:
Small Portrait 9000,0 (http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s380/DXHBK4Ever/MUGEN/90000_zpsce6aaf3e.png) PSD Template (http://www.mediafire.com/?4jhh6hw6m65bemi)
Large Portrait 9000,1 (http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s380/DXHBK4Ever/MUGEN/90001_zps52783578.png) PSD Template (http://www.mediafire.com/?zioh1mtv55m515b)
Portraits should be cropped after indexing. The offfset in placing the portraits are x - 0 and y - 0. Have fun creating.
EDIT: The request limit is now three per each set. More than three will not be accepted.
My finished sets seperated from each folder: (PNG Format) 9000,0 (http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/uu184/DissidiaNua/Portrait/9000%200/) 9000,1 (http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/uu184/DissidiaNua/Portrait/9000%201/) 9000,35 (http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/uu184/DissidiaNua/Portrait/9000%2035/)
The Tutorial by GLB Hello. A lot of people have been pm-ing me via Mugen Guild/Newage/Facebook on how to create portraits for the screenpack. I decided to save everyone's time and do a quick written tutorial using pictures and descriptions so it's easy to follow!
STEP 1: FIND YOUR PICTURES/RENDERS.
You're obviously going to need pictures and/or renders to complete your portraits. In this portrait tutorial I will be making a portrait set for Ryu. I like to start with the large portraits (9000,1 sprite group.) For the large portrait, you're going to need two pictures/renders to complete it. One for the top part of the template (which is shown on the select screen) and one under that (shown in the versus screen)
Once you open the program, go to: (File - Open - Browse to your Mugen folder, find the template folder, and open the 9000,1 (large portrait) .PSD (Yes, .Psds work in GIMP.)
Then you're going to go to: (file - open as layers - and browse to find your two pictures. Add them both in, re-size (scale them so they fit) or recolor/sharpen/make whatever necessary picture edits you have to make until you're satisfied, then when you're complete, make sure you click on the picture layers in the layer box and then go to the top of the program and hit: (Layer - Layer to image size size) this will keep your pictures within the portrait boundary. At this point, it should look like this:
Make sure when you add the picture that goes on the select screen (the box on top) that it does not overlap onto the other picture in the template. Erase/Scale/Do whatever.
Now you're going to go to the layers box (the box on the right hand side of the screenshot showing all the layers) and you're going to right click then choose "Merge down" from top to bottom. Now it should look like this:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/wENRySE.png)
The next and final steps to this part is to go to: (Image - Mode - Indexed - Leave it at 255 and hit OK.) Then go to: (Colors - Map - Rearrange Color Map) choose the pink and drag it to the 0 spot. This is called indexing sprites.
STEP 4: CREATE YOUR SMALL PORTRAIT Now that your large portrait is complete, we're going to create a small portrait (9000,0 sprite group) Same steps as above, you're going to need a picture suitable for a small portrait. This will appear on the select screen.
I'm going to use this picture for my small portrait:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/tNExABY.png)
Following the same steps above open your 9000,0 (small port) .PSD , don't forget to save the picture you're using, file - open as layers, drag your layer beneath layer 1 and above layer 0 so right in the middle (just like above) and make the necessary picture edits. Scaling is usually a common thing for the small portraits.
Here's a trick for scaling if you're unfamiliar with GIMP:
Spoiler: "Scale button location (contained within red box) "(click to see content)
This is the scale tool, you'll use this to shorten your pic/render and make it fit to your liking. This will most definitely kill your picture quality and make it blurry. To avoid that, you can go to "Filters" located on the top bar. Then go to "Enhance" then "Sharpen" and there will be a preview of your picture with the enhancement.
Spoiler: "Sharpen preview"(click to see content)
Once your render is placed where you want it to be, you're going to do the same as above: (Layers - Layer image to size)
At this point it should look like this:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/Ebfv2TV.png)
Now again following the steps above, merge all the layers from top to bottom, then go to image - mode - indexed - 255 colors - hit ok. Then Colors - map - rearrange color map - drag the pink to 0. File - save as - "9000,0.pcx" or w/e you want. Make sure the large is saved as a .pcx as well.
STEP 5: CREATE YOUR LIFEBAR PORTRAIT.
Now this one's a bit more tricky. You cannot use a picture on this, you MUST use a render. Open your lifebar PSD template in gimp (9000,35) and find the render you'd like to use.
In this example I'll be using this render:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/zFujmZQ.jpg)
Now on the lifebar PSD you'll notice there's 3 layers. Layer 3 is useless in this case, you can delete it, we do not need it. So right now you should only have 2 layers. Pink and blue.
Preview shot:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/UZmNT7O.png)
File - Open as layers - add your render. Make the necessary edits (scaling/sharpening explained above) then drag it to the middle layer like above. It should look something like this now:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/a8kTlk4.png)
Now you're going to select the "Color picker tool"
Spoiler: "Preview"(click to see content)
Then select the pink layer, click the bg to get this pink color as your main color, then go to the blue layer and simply fill the blue in with the pink. It's very important you make sure both pinks are the same exact color. Now it should look something like this:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
(http://i.imgur.com/FvHHe04.png)
This next step is VERY IMPORTANT. Select your Ryu layer (just click on it) and then go to (Layer - Transparency - Threshold Alpha) Leave it at 127 and hit okay. THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE ON YOUR RENDER!!!!! This will save you tons of work and it'll make sure your render doesn't blend with the pink background.
Spoiler: "preview"(click to see content)
After this, merge down from top to bottom like above and index the portrait. You've completed your set. Now you must add it to your character.
STEP 6: ADDING THE PORTRAITS TO THE CHARACTER SFF.
I'm not going to bother going over the basics of Fighter Factory and how that works, I'll just assume everyone knows how it works. You're going to follow the instruction notepad document within the template folder of the screenpack. The text is as follows:
Quote
1) When editing a new character's sff make sure to change their original 9000,0 sprite to 9000,9000. This way it'll work with the lifebar's team and simul modes. 2) Small ports are 9000,0 and big ports are 9000,1 (x = 0, y = 0). 3) Lifebar ports are 9000,35 (x = 0, y = 0).
MAKE SURE YOU CROP YOUR LIFEBAR PORTRAIT AND LARGE PORTRAIT. They will not be at a 0,0 pos if you don't. The crop tool is automatic and does all the work for you in Fighter Factory.
Save your characters .sff file with the changes, add him/her into your Mugen folder and you should be good to go!

What SXVector said. The X,Y values are 0,0 when the sprites are cropped. All portraits must be cropped after they're added in order to be placed correctly.
Glad you like them! @ Wargame.

Sorry it took so long to answer! The cropping did work, thanks SX and GLB. I was using FF Ultimate which never asks to crop... :-\ Anyway, great work with the sp Dissidia! I'll be keeping this one! ;D I really like the idea of the cursor showing up in the middle slots instead of the top right and left. It gives it flair. ;)

Make sure Tifa isn't using any weird custom resolution or any resolutions higher than 320,240. If it is, you'll have to enlarge your ports with math(in accordance to the resolution).
For example, a resolution of 640x480 requires a port that is 2x bigger than it's original size. Hence (25x25 should be 50x50 for 640,480 res characters and so on).
Give me Tifa and I'll give a look.

If you're using Zero Sennin's Tifa edit, she has a specific localcoord that shrinks her down like that.

Honestly I don't think it's necessary at all. It's quite easy to figure out, the PSD's themselves should help you figure it out.

Good enough. Also, it's easier to find art for Mima then for, let say, Konngara (only one art), Mugetsu (two arts so far) or Gengetsu (two arts so far). Orange doesn't even have ANY artwork at all.

In FF go to sprites then open the sff of the character. Find the 9000, 0 sprite and rename it to 9000, 9000. Then find the 9000, 1 sprite and rename it to 9000, 9001 (this one is optional, but you need to 9000, 9000). Then go to the end of the sprites and find the add sprites button on the left hand toolbar. Add the 9000, 0, 9000, 1 and 9000, 35 sprites at axis 0, 0. Make sure to crop them! :)

But Blizard Buffalo did not meant Cyber Peacock, but Peacock from Skull Girls.
i don't think peacock from skull girls has been converted to mugen yet, infact i don't think there is even a single skull girls character for mugen(if im wrong then feel free to correct me). so what would he use it for?

Okay, now to an odd request: I would like to see ports for Daniel J. D'Arby the Gambler from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (I hope, I pronounced his name correctly). He may not be MUGENized, but if I knew, how to code JBA chars, and if someone can give me a link, that shows an exhibition of that char (complete with commands, hitboxes and such), and if I could get the whole sprite and sound rip of that char, then I would be willing to code the remaining chars from that game. FYI, I don't know anything about JBA except for Jotaro, Dio, Polnareff, Vanilla Ice, Mohammed and Hol Horse.

I think, I saw some good art in the Warzone portrait thread. I just don't remember, where. Alternatively, you can still use high quality rips from the JBA anime, if there do exist rip with high quality.

Welp, here's part of my support to this SP. <.<
Just be warned, I won't do Lifebar portraits, since I do that for another set of lifebars (and some people have covered that already. I'm just providing alternative portraits for those who want them). For those who know me, I'm a big fan of Melty Blood, so yeah, now you know the Lifebars I use. However, the small and big portraits WILL be present in my small works. <.<
Now, have a look.

Hmmm... Maybe I should crop the image since it looks kinda too large in width and height. Forces me to change the Y axis.
What dimensions do you recommend, GLB?
The crop button in fighter factory automatically removes everything that needs to be removed. Doing this will have the X and Y axis be 0. It does everything automatically.

As far as a guide goes, we feel as though it's quite simple to figure out. We don't see the need for a tutorial of any kind.

The templates for the portraits are in PSD format (made from photoshop) So to create them you'd need Photoshop. Or you can get GIMP, the free alternative which also opens PSD files.

Title: Re: Hatsune Miku: Project MUGEN S.P. Custom Portrait Thread
Post by: GLB on January 07, 2013, 01:56:15 am
That post is a bit vague.
But since you said lifebar I assume you're referring to the pink specs around your character or the blue color. Well, after you place your render in the lifebar template, you want to use a threshold alpha so the render doesn't blend into your background, making it much easier and faster to index. The blue bars in game is where the actual lifebars are going to be placed, you need to make them pink (same pink as the bg) and merge everything together before indexing.

You will need fighter factory to apply your portraits to the characters in Mugen, and to also crop portraits that you make (or that others forgot to crop).

A suggestion for Hanzou, but I think it would look better if you replaced the pixel sprite art with stuff from the XBLA port of NGBC. Here you go if you want to use them.
COPIED FROM THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE TEMPLATE FOLDER:
1) When editing a new character's sff make sure to change their original 9000,0 sprite to 9000,9000. This way it'll work with the lifebar's team and simul modes. 2) Small ports are 9000,0 and big ports are 9000,1 (x = 0, y = 0). 3) Lifebar ports are 9000,35 (x = 0, y = 0).
Are people still making requests? If so, I'd like to request a set for Kisama Kouma from Melty Blood.
I still do from time to time. Dissidia's been busy with other things. I'm not sure if he made one for Kouma or not. I'll look into it for you and make one if anything.

I would've uploaded more or even all of them at once when I finished but I didn't feel like doing that many previews, so I'll do them in pieces. well if someone requested for 3 ports the same you request he need to make 3 of them at once instead 1 by 1
so its good to get a whole package bro if you dont want to take them you can always get 1 or 2 of the port you requested
i guess this points everything..

Eitherway, I would like to have ports of Boomer's three OMK chars. Yep, I go by authors this time.
This, however, IS serious.
Again.
Please. Specify. Names. Of. The. Character.
It'll save us time having to go find whatever the hell it is you're requesting, and not to start anything but I can sense attitude in your post. If you're going to be that way about it make them yourself. Please properly request from now on or don't do so at all.
Sorry for my attitude. That was my first post and i was in a kind of hurry :P. Thanks!
No apology needed. I wasn't talking to you. No problem! :beamgoi:

You're probably using Fighter Factory Classic, while those character .sff files were created in a more upgraded version of Fighter Factory.

That has to do with the scaling of the character, you'll have to make a port twice as big for her

Sorry if they're poorly done, they were a bit rushed. I'll be taking a break on portraits for a little bit. I've made 73 full sets now (not including individual lifebar sets) and I've got to focus on my other projects plus real life stuff as well. So I'll still take a request or two from time to time, but for the most part I'll be temporarily stopping.

Wellllll... I'm new to the forum and stuff , but , i don't know if this thread have this or not , but i think there is such a few characters slots , only 60 , i have a motiff that can support 600 , but it don't work on the Screenpack , sadly . Here is an image for example of the 600 Slot. http://page.freett.com/werewood/600_slots_select.png Aand , if someone wants the files to fix it for the Miku Screenpack i do have them , and i can send.

Hi there! I'm just new here on this forum. I started to create my own portraits so I'll going to share some of works soon. But before that, I used to create a WIN portrait under 9000,2. Here's how it looks like:
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

It didn't override the 9000,1 portrait though:

What can you say about it guys?

Looks good, one thing though. You might want to make the red part in the 9000,0 transparent or something that blends better with the screenpack.

This. Nice looking stuff though, glad to have contributors. Try using actual pictures for the 9000,0/9000,1 ports (or a better background/color for the render)

Hm... Which Version is the best for working with that ? And how do i apply/make the portraits ? @_@
Check the instructions notepad document in the templates folder to learn how to apply them. While I'd recommend the most recent version of Fighter Factory, whichever you want should suffice.

While applying your portraits you want to find the original portraits in the characters sff file:
9000,0 = Their small portrait. You do NOT get rid of this; change it to 9000,9000 so it still shows up for team modes. Then add your own sprite (9000,0) for the custom small portrait.
9000,1 = Their big portrait. You DO get rid of this, simply by replacing it with the 9000,1 sprite made custom for the Hatsune Miku screenpack (Make sure the hatsune miku custom portraits ARE CROPPED. This way their x,y positions will automatically be 0,0. You will only have to worry about cropping the 9000,1 and 9000,35 portraits). What cropping does is remove all excess pink from the portrait you can do this by using the "cut" button in Fighter Factory.
9000,35 = The custom lifebar portrait. Of course this will only apply with the Hatsune Miku screenpack lifebars. You must make sure these are cropped as well, and you will have to manually add this sprite.
All of their x,y positions are 0,0. As long as they're cropped. All of my portraits in my mediafire are already cropped as well as a majority of Dissidia's.
Hopefully that helped.

Erm... It didin't cropped , it just stayed a giant pink/green/photo thing on the MUGEN ._. I kind of Helped , thanks , but , how can i handle this ? Look , the Mugen cut thing isn't working tough , i rendered the image , worked , but only the Loading vs Image got on the right place , the Select Your Character Portait is out of the "monitor" whch shows of its photo... #Edit: Well , i changed the x and y , tested several times and then it fitted perfectly , X=0 Y=89 or 90.

Again with that --; like i said before: "if i know how to create it by myself i will not come to this topic in the first place"

Ah, okay. However, I don't knoe, how I could actually use the second pic for 9000;0. The letters are in my way. However, I think, using "Bilzard" Buffalo's mugshot from the source game as 9000;0 would be the best solution anyway, especially because this doesn't need to be scaled TOO much.
Title: Re: Hatsune Miku: Project MUGEN S.P. Custom Portrait Thread

Right.
If I were using that image as the 9000,0 I'd probably just have his eyes and part of his head in anyways and crop everything else out. As long as it's not scaled A LOT, the sharpen tool can help enough.

Since I have things to do, I'll just leave the link and later I'll upload the images. Note this only has Arina's 9010,1 by request, while having Rai's and Slash's full set. LonePerson, if you use Fighter Factory to add your images, I recommend you crop the images before adding them (Fighter Factory has an option to crop before and after adding sprites), otherwise they'll be wrongly positioned; they must have the 0,0 axis position after cropping.

I know, but for instance when a character does a win-quote the char's portrait can not go off the edge of the screen. If you want to know what I am talking about, I will post a screenshot. :)

That's odd, that never happens to me. Double-check if the axes are still equal to 0.

By the way, you guys could make a list of all ports that have been made in the first post.
Can you include Rera's source? I'm not sure who Rera is Also, we'd do that but there's a bunch of ports that have been made. So we figured it'd just be as easy to add Dissidia's photobucket, my mediafire and Markpachi's mediafire to the first post. Anyone else contributing can leave a link to their folder containing all the ports they've made and we'll add it to the first post.

All sprite axis should be equal to 0. Press the crop button just in case someone forgot to crop it.

I suggest that you should adjust its Y-axis into 90. I didn't used to delete the existing 9000,1 of a character, as what do others did.

Has anyone created some portraits for Ryougi Shiki? If not, here's mine:
*Honestly, I finished creating the standard portraits of Melty Blood characters before. The reason why I called them "standard" is because I used the standard portraits from the game itself. I will gonna upload the portraits of other MB characters in the future. So stay tuned...

Anyways, here's Lobo. Click the image to get the Download link.
This is odd, my download links wont work. I'll fix it asap. If it still doesn't work, just go directly to my Mediafire folder and try downloading it from there. http://www.mediafire.com/?2vulh0mbbhxnt

Just like my previous post, most of my portrait's design were usually from the standard portraits of the game. I'm planning to create some portraits for other characters as well. The only problem would be the source of HQ game portraits.
Feel free to leave some comments and suggestions about my creations. :)

Here are some requests: Super Mario Satsuki (meltybood) Shiki (meltyblood)
(Full sets if possible) I figure out how input these pictures into the game now :)
Shiki was done some pages back by dncelestinx96 pages 4-6 to be exact. Dissidia also did Nanaya in the SP templates folder and his Photobucket. Satsuki was done by Chevalier on this page. I'll possibly do Mario later.
@Chevalier Don't forget to crop your portraits, man.

Okay I'm doing something wrong. Whenever I try to input one of the PNG files from here, the pink background is still there. Even when I converted the PNG to a PCX in GIMP and in Irfanview, the pink background was still there. What step am I missing?
Title: Re: Hatsune Miku: Project MUGEN S.P. Custom Portrait Thread
Post by: GLB on March 24, 2013, 05:09:01 am
That happened to me a few times in GIMP, I think it's a problem within the program's color map. I usually got past this by recoloring the pink to green and re-indexing the image and properly setting the 0 color.

Title: Re: Hatsune Miku: Project MUGEN S.P. Custom Portrait Thread
Post by: GLB on March 24, 2013, 05:19:46 am
Fill the green (or whatever you want the transparent color to be) over the pink. Make sure it covers all the pink, so it's all this one color. Then Image - Mode - Indexed.
Then go to Colors - Map - Rearrange Color Map and set the color you want transparent in MUGEN to the 0 spot.

Sounds like you're incorrectly dragging the color to the 0 spot. It should work after you do that and save as PCX.

Sorry for the bump, but are you guys still taking requests for this? I ask because this topic haven't been active lately.
Rarely. Sorry about the inactivity, we've been busy working on our stages for the 2nd part of the release pack, and we just generally lost interest in making portraits. I don't have a problem making them, I just don't like going through a bunch of tedious rendering all the time. So like I had stated before, I'm still able to take requests, just not as much because of other projects being worked on and because of working 40-45 hours a week I have limited time. I usually will only take requests I can do in a short amount of time or that I'm just interested in. You're free to request them still, there could be some contributors here to help in the thread. If I recall correctly, Markpachi, Ryoucchi, SXVector, Oxe and many others were making portraits from time to time as well as Dissidia and I.

well
Resize the render to ur liking
put it in the corner on the left where ur renders is visible
use the select tool aand click those spots click on ur render in the layers bar and press delete
after that u click the little eye on the pink background behind ur render (Meaning the lifebar template)
Index it and then go to color table then go click on the very last box the transparent one and then put it in " ff00ff " the Pink background will work as the transparency and then add it in fighter factory to the character and set it to 9000, 35 and make sure its not shared palette

He made it specifically for me lol. I really appreciate it and my portraits for select and small are gorgeous. Only thing is.... I'm not too good with cleaning lifebar portraits. They have those lines around them... sometimes... even a pink outline

When using gimp, you have to select the render layer (before merging it down) and use the threshold alpha at 127 (like Watta said.) This will make sure it doesn't blend in with the pink and give you less work to do.

I may be a bit late, but..
I'm working on a pack if anyone is interested. The pack's not going to be leaning towards any specific game. Just a bunch of randoms.
This is my PROB -> (Colors - Map - Rearrange Color Map) There is a 4-5 PINK Color i see so i dont know what color pink i choose.
There's a quick fix you can do with this. Take a few steps back, leave it un-indexed momentarily while doing this, fill in the 0 color (transparent color) with a different color that stands up. After you do this you'll notice all those stray pink pixels. Try using green, that's another commonly used 0 color.
What program are you all using? It sounds much more complicated than using Photoshop.
Gimp??
GIMP is acutally easier to be honest. I can whip up a 9000,1 and a 9000,0 in under 3 minutes. If a lifebar is a good render... i can do it even faster. It's hella easier lol

Ahh, no worries. There's a tutorial on the 1st page. The ports must be set to Indexed mode.
Quote
The next and final steps to this part is to go to: (Image - Mode - Indexed - Leave it at 255 and hit OK.) Then go to: (Colors - Map - Rearrange Color Map) choose the pink and drag it to the 0 spot. This is called indexing sprites.
Alternatively, you can search Youtube for tutorials on how to Index images, just in case you didn't understand.

See, that's the downside of Mugen 1.0. It only accepts Indexed images. When you Index an image, all of the colors get reduced to 256. Also, it doesn't allow feathering (http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/feather).

I personally prefer having the transparent background over a white background, I feel it clashes more, if it has a good background already then I leave it alone for the most part.

It's not a legitimate error, it's mostly just preference. But yeah, for both I'd say. I usually don't use renders unless I'm making the 9000,0/9000,35 ports.

The links are all the exact same because MediaFire finally fixed that replacing issue, but for the sake of convenience: Pikachu (http://www.mediafire.com/download/3w1nkq41k4eh5hn/Pikaports_Miku_SP.zip) Bowser (http://www.mediafire.com/download/33t87jnvvb3v764/Bowserports_Miku_SP.zip) Knee of Justice (http://www.mediafire.com/download/9ac2sq2zw9d4b8f/Falconports_Miku_SP.zip)
I'm sure you already know this, but if you draw a selection box around a specific area of an image and then index the image, that area loses less colour, though other areas lose more.

Data folder, click "Miku Screenpack Default" replace all the current contents of the screenpack with everything in the default folder.

If you follow my tutorial I use GIMP, it's like Photoshop it's a free alternative. You can set your colors in gimp before indexing/converting to avoid this issue.

They don't even have to be .pcx. They can be indexed .pngs.
I get the feeling you're not indexing them. If an image in non-indexed, then the transparency colour is pure black by default when inserted into Fighter Factory.

When you Index an image, all of the colors get reduced to 256.
When Indexing, colors get massively reduced. (Depends on the art) You're doing it right. Don't worry about it, the quality won't be that noticeable mainly because there is a glow flashing overlay on the VS screen. It'll be barely noticeable.
Also, don't forget to crop your sprites! :)

I can see quite a bit of pink artifact on the lifebar portrait.
Also, what happened? Soundwave's 9000,1 pictures look terrible in your screenshots...as does Pikachu's. I can confirm that Pikachu's (and all my other portraits) work perfectly fine on my end.

The Big Select port looks great! It has a poster feel to it, but I really don't like how the VS port looked. Not even the flashing animation can hide the color loss.

Two things I hate working with are hair and simplistic styles of art, like indexing MvC3's characters for instance. Hair is incredibly hard to get right, but the end result is so well worth it if you could get it right. I posted a shot of Lion-O in the screenshots section and all of those reds were a pain in the ass. But the final result is stunning.
It's all about following lines with your eyes properly.
And with simplistic styles of art, indexing goes bananas since indexing involves surrounding colors and whatnot. I remember working on MvC3 Thor's cape... Yeah, it was nerve wracking. Alas, I persevered and made some exceptional work.

Dude!! That's priceless!! Trust me, I wish there was an albeit "simpler" (I don't want to say easier) way to churn out good looking images right off the bat. No matter what you work with, good looking art will always take effort in Mugen. In my mind, something isn't complete until its as close to perfect as I can get it.

Sounds like you're having a palette issue. I'm not entirely sure on how to deal with small face portraits, but for our common 9000,1 and 9000,2 images, simply A: uncheck the "shared palette" option and B: add the new image either as a replacement for what is there, or add the new image at the tail end of the sprites group. Sometimes when adding something in, colors will appear messed up when in fact they won't show up that way.
Although I don't post too much here, I will say that the style and art submissions I see are pretty badass. As with any other screenpack and their formatting (WarZoNe, Legacy, here, etc.), if I had more time to make separate sets, I'd do so in a heartbeat. Alas, I gotta work with what I got.

OH MY GOD this is frustrating, can someone PLEASE tell me, WHAT DO YOU DO IN FIGHTER FACTORY
I have tried everything, and nothing works, I followed all the steps EXACTLY, can someone please PLEASE just upload a video tutorial or something?
I put my images into fighter factory, and the lifebar image and the large portrait work (mostly, the large portrait keeps losing colors, even though i've indexed it) and then there's the small icon....MY GOD!!!
The small icon keeps coming out as a mix-mash of blacks and blues, and when I finally get the color back to normal, the pink won't go transparent!!!
Gah!!! I've been trying for the entire day, and nothings working!

Guys, I've asked Dissidia to add all links to completed portraits for this screenpack on the front page. If you would post your link to either a photobucket/mediafire/skydrive/whatever containing all of your portraits, we will add you to the front page. So far we've added myself, Dissidia, Markpachi, Magma Dragoon, Ryoucchi and bley43.

It's not risky whatsoever. If we've all got it virus-free, then surely that'd mean it's perfectly safe, no?
An alternative to GIMP is Photoshop, though unless that came pre-installed on your computer (or you're a scurvy dog, yarr), a large sum of money is going to trade hands.

There's 1.1 and 1.0 versions. Some portraits have "HD" versions. those are for characters that uses localcoord (like boomer's Battler). ^ yes there is. the winquote port is the same as the big port but if the character that you downloaded have 9000,2 port< this will appear instead of the 9000,1 port. so what you need to do is either go in the system def. search for victory and change 9000,2 to 9000,1 or you could simply open the character and change their 9000,2 port number or replace it with 9000,1 custom port.

And to commemorate such an occasion, here's a set for the classic screenpack :P
Hamtaro is so damn fat, but so damn short. It's really difficult to find usable images that don't get cut off. Ah well.
Oh, and Bowser and Pikachu's portraits have been updated... well, the transparent ones at least. While they're not actually transparent any more, they look transparent in-game. Trust me, they look better than before.

You should probably say whether you want them for Classic or Extend, seeing as they use different portraits.

Just open the template on Photoshop or Gimp, it already have a field for the character's name. Remember that you must have the fonts that come with the template installed.

Ok, I have the fonts installed but I can't seem to get the text to look the same as the text thats on the templates that were premade.

You just select the text layer and edit it. I don't see what's the mystery there.

Hey Dizzy! I actully caught wind of your screenpack awhile back and loved it! :D
I was able to make icons for my entire roster, but sadly not portraits. I eventually gave up on that and went on to make my own screenpack. (http://i.imgur.com/2vhNZIc.png)
