Title: Making a Googoo64 character good? Possible or Not?
Post by: D, The Red Cloak on February 27, 2015, 11:02:26 pm
I'm at that point where I have barely any motivation to do Chun Fo for the Remake. So I thought I would try something different until I can do Chun Fo, remaking an infamous mugen author's trash into something considered good, or at least tolerable. Like how me, Duck@ss Farm, And Trinitronity are remaking a badly made bootleg into something playable.

For this, I'm thinking of doing a complete overhaul of one of Googoo64's characters, specifically this one.

Personally the idea of a character based on old films is interesting. However like many ideas that are good on paper, the execution is without a doubt done horribly. So I wondered, how can this be done better?

Well first it has to be playable by most fighting game standards obviously. No spammable one button, full beam attacks, no invincibility frames that prevent any sort of counter or any other of GooGoo64's trademarks.

Do you guys think it can be done? Or should I not even try?
I mean I have a few ideas about how Kinyo could be done, but I don't know if it would too much like polishing a turd.

Consider it a challenge.

Do it with effort as dedication.

Good luck!

I always wanted Kinyo Roadshow and Wario to get a fix. If it can be done, that would be great.

I'm still on the fence on this, but just for fun I made a sprite of how Kinyo could look.

I know the sprite doesn't look great, but it's what I got for trying to draw the actual character with minimal frankenspriting.

The hands are too detailed for the style you're pursuing, unless you want to edit the rest (or the hands, which would be quicker).

That looks awesome! Is it a edit from Cheng Sizan?

You can't make a GooGoo64 character good, you can only make a better version of that character. That's probably what you're doing.

Pretty much, mostly because their really isn't much to work with in terms of sprites. So I can't help but do the sprites from scratch / tracing over Cheng Sizan.
