Quite possibly will be "Meh" this year as well, if Nintendo can't step up their game and do a REAL presentation other than per-recorded ones.
Title: Re: E3 2017 (Season Pass Included) (VR)
Post by: Titiln on June 02, 2017, 08:50:01 AM
technically they could still do a good one, their 2014 pre recorded presentation was very good, but the two that followed were trash so expectations are low

True, but Nintendo is one of the bigger juggernauts. So many stong IPs and so much money, of course most would have eyes on them. Just look at Splatoon. When that was announced, no one expected it. Who knows if they have something special this year?

Shitposting aside, it's Sony I want to see things from. I want to see more on the new God of War, I want to see whatever the hell Sucker Punch has been working on for the last 3 years, I want to see Insomniac's Spider-Man game, and enough Death Stranding for me to understand what it even is wouldn't hurt.

It would take a good Metroid game for Nintendo to really catch my attention. I'm not planning on picking up a Switch for a while, at this rate.

edit: Also not a Sony thing, but I really want to see whatever the hell Visceral is doing with the Star Wars license. They have some big project brewing.

There's apparently a Nintendo internal memo floating around that lists everything that will be shown as well as documenting what games will be playable. I'd post it, but I'm not able to at the moment, and honestly, it may very well be fake. But if it's real, I think a lot of people will be happy-ish with it.

as far as games go that was a pretty good show, a way out looks very good, there aren't many games fully dedicated to co op. nfs payback looked very good. star wars battlefield 2 looks very competent

all the shit they did involving youtubers and influencers was a waste of time
Title: Re: E3 2017 (Season Pass Included) (VR)

Very excited for Need For Speed Payback, very interested in Anthem (but we'll save that for Microsoft, I suppose), do not care a lick about Battlefront 2 but I'm sure the people that do are pleased, A Way Out looks very cool for couch co-op players (of which I am an occasional member).

Sports look like sports I guess

Post by: Berry on June 11, 2017, 01:37:13 AM
sports games look alright though i don't care much about them, NFS seems fun enough, BF2 looks good but i'm still skeptical on it. A Way Out looks really interesting and I like the approach of split screen being crucial to it, it's unique and could create for some fun synergy between players, might be a bit distracting on the first runs but overall I really like the idea. the moments with gamers and commentators sucked or were boring but hey the games look fairly good.

It was an alright presentation for Xbox.  Nothing historic, but not bad either.  Nice range of games.  Happy to see Ori again, and Sea of Thieves looks like fun.

Curious if the backwards compatibility with original Xbox applies to marketplace downloads as well, such as Psychonauts.  Also 343 said while there was definitely no new Halo game to show off this time around, there was going to be something Halo related, just small.  I didn't see anything at all, though.

Not too interested in the XBOX without a trade in incentive and I actually have a 4K TV. Like that they're bringing Original XBox games into the backward compatibility fold, though. Everything looked solid enough, eager to see some more of Anthem, eager to play some AC, but neither of those is gonna require me upgrading to a new XBox.

They showed one of those halo helmets in a some trailer with gold lighting around it. Idk if that's what they meant.

Anyway I enjoyed Microsoft showcase better than what i expected. I didn't expect the original XB backwards compatibility though so that's a pretty nice feature.
Games i'm looking forward to "The Last Night, Unruly Heroes, Shift, State of Decay 2, DBFZ, Code Vein, and Metro: Exodus".

State of Decay 1 was a fun idea but it had a shitty PC port and was relatively clunky on its own so I'm hoping SoD2 is far better

I'm stuck in disbelief that that was Beyond Good & Evil 2.  I LOVE Beyond Good & Evil.  And now that they say it, sure, that could fit in their world, but...it takes place before the original?  Background lore like that is fine, but we want to know what the hell is going to happen with Jade, not her past job getting to the orphanage.  Or at least not nearly as much as it was what needed to be the long awaited sequel, have that junk told in flashabcks or terminals following the story happening after the end of the original  We just had this deal with Mirror's Edge, and as much as I loved the original there too, Mirror's Edge wasn't nearly as hyped as BG&E.

Ok, tempering my expectations until gameplay is shown, and history with similar expectations, but still, this genuinely makes me really happy to see.

I never touched the first game but they said this was the distant past long before Jade is born.

I'm exaggerating, it's probably going to eventually hint at what events get her down to that point, if not specific, but come on, we just want to know what's going to happen to Jade in the end.  Maybe the space government will form some sort of prejudice against her family by the events of this game.  Or just people with green eyes.

Oi, the more I think about it the more I worry how Mirror's Edge's se/prequel reboot turned out.  Just...I sincerely hope it's good.  I really hope it's amazing, but just waiting for the gameplay trailer first.

Bethesda throwing their hat in to the paid mods arena again.

I hate to be the devil's avocado for paid mods, but that's the only way mods on console is even feasible. There has to be a lot of QAing of the mods to make sure it won't turn your Xbone/PS4 into spontaneous combusting box or that they don't include sneaky hate speech/symbols or backdoor jailbreaking software, etc. QA ain't pro bono.

Still sucks shit

Post by: Long John Killer on June 13, 2017, 06:23:00 AM
Bodied?  Sony's seemed to be the most boring and disorganized of those shown yet.  The speaker didn't have any range with his voice, the stage effects were awkward, the crowd was quiet for the most of it with the camera panning to them at weird moments and there wasn't a whole lot of interest in the games shown.  Microsoft's might has dragged on more than it needed, but they filled that time with plenty of new games and kept it interesting.

Wasn't too much here for me, but still got something out of it.  God of War still looks neat, like that the kid talks to snakes and the World Serpent is an ally.  Unexpected that Kratos' son grew up to become Harry Potter, but hey.  Shadow of the Colossus remake is nice, though I wasn't particularly asking for one.  Spider-Man's ok, but not wowing me.  It just seems like Shattered Dimensions with the old PlayStation Spider-Man's open world.  Which is kind of exactly what people wanted, so that's great, but it's not a big enough draw for me to be getting it any time soon.

I actually kind of wish that VR game Moss with the mice was not an original IP.  Because it suddenly reminded me of Redwall so much, and the concept of a lighter hack and slash Redwall title amused me.

Ubisoft
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is this year's Last Guardian/FF7 Remake/Shenmue III, it's an autowin. On top of that you had Mario Rabbids, Skull & Bones, Farcry 5 looks good, and double the expected South Park.

Microsoft
Not nearly as much wanking over the new chipset as I thought they'd do, and a big solid lineup of games I'm interested in for PC. Wish they'd learn what the word exclusive means though.

Sony
Was working when this one was on, so I followed it on twitter. Decent enough lineup, Days Gone looked fun, new Uncharted, Arkham Spiderman, but it lacked a real knockout punch, and they showcased Horizon DLC in their presser which is a cardinal sin.

Nintendo
Sure, Mario Odyssey was great, but Ubi stole their thunder on the Rabbids game, and the other stuff that if any other company tried they'd get dogpiled (Metroid Prime 4 was just a logo, Super Pokken 2 Turbo, whole segment just for Zelda DLC).

Bethesda
Fuck's sake Bethesda, got enough Skyrim? Whole lotta Elder Scrolls without TES6, they're trying to charge for mods again, some ancient shooter that isn't UT. Wolfenstein 2 looks cool though.

EA
Sports sports sports cars real cars on stage sports sports shooty sports.

I would argue Metroid prime 4 was more of an auto win then Beyond good and Evil 2, but that's subjective... but...

Sure, Mario Odyssey was great, but Ubi stole their thunder on the Rabbids game,

It was a fucking logo. No game, not even a proper trailer or teaser. If any of the other big players pulled that shit as part of their presser you'd never hear the end of it.

odyssey's trailer has twice the views mario rabbids has. no thunder was stolen whatsoever
No, I mean that because it was in Ubi's presser with a complete gameplay demo the impact of its spot in Nintendo's was lessened than it would otherwise have been.

let me give my thoughts too...

cuphead is one of the most beautiful games i've ever seen. it's classic 2d animation is amazing, but its a shame it's gameplay looks so... uninspired. if this was an a rpg it would've been alot better.
i really didn't like how there one too many shooters and  first person horror games shown, seems like the safe bet for games nowadays. would've loved to see a hack and slash for once but nope, those are too hard for todays gamers and you can't VR with them. (i hate VR but that is a discussion for an other time).
vampyr looks like a very cool rpg, and im excited to play it, i really love the victorian era setting too.

god of war looks good but im not liking how the combat works in it.
this new axe weapon and the over the shoulder camera are mainly the reason. back in the old series you had those bad ass long ranged aptly named blades of chaos, they allowed kratos to dish out attacks to multiple opponents at the same time, they were excellent crowd control weapons and they allowed the developers to flock kratos with as much enemies as possible. cutting them all down truly made you feel like a badass.
but now you have a fixed line of sight and a short ranged weapon, which means you can't fight more than a few enemies at the same time and you can't see (nor counter) if someone is attacking you from behind. additionally, this axe weapon lacks the impact the blades of chaos had, it's blade is so small and it looks so generic, it barely split an enemy in half. the blades used to shake the ground with a simple square, square, triangle combo.

If the other big players had respective franchises with such high demand for something more out of the series and they too had just a logo, I suspect the subsequent fans would also be frantically happy.  Beyond Good & Evil 2 here is actually a good example of perhaps going in with just a logo rather than a misleading teaser trailer, as it is such a franchise (Well, now it can be called one, before it was just a beloved title) that many would kill for something more of.  And while the trailer was a spectacle, it was also very disconnected from what players of the original identify the game as, as well as it forgo mentioning the slight detail that the game's not designed like the original at all either, being online multiplayer.

It all just depends on the size of the franchise if just a title drop is good enough or not, I'd say.  And one of Nintendo's big original NES trio I think qualifies.  Now we know about it being official, so if there is some sizable changes being done the sting's a bit lessened.  Unless it's changing Prime to a defend your teammate game long mission and you're trying to save The Baby, then screw that noise.

The FF7 logo was enough to make everyone go crazy the first time the remake was announced.

Well, in all the god of War games there WERE short ranged weapons, it's not far fetched to assume there will be long ranged weapons in this game. (Maybe even the blades of chaos?)

The FF7 logo also came with a teaser trailer showing off the redesigns and the new art direction. Metroid Prime 4 came with a logo.

This game wants to be Unforgiven, so I guarantee you there will be a moment of no return in the last act where Kratos is going to go ballistic (when the kid dies/appears to be dead) and use the Blades of Chaos and the classic theme will start blaring as you start cutting trolls into brisket

I would argue Metroid prime 4 was more of an auto win then Beyond good and Evil 2
It was a fucking logo. No game, not even a proper trailer or teaser. If any of the other big players pulled that shit as part of their presser you'd never hear the end of it.

A logo and music. Can't forget the music.

They made a redesign. (https://e3.nintendo.com/games/metroid-samus-returns-3ds/)  It was made for the other another Metroid II remake, this time that they're making.  In hindsight thinking about it now, it would actually probably be more of a hindrance to them wanting to get any newcomers showing off two different versions of Metroid gameplay and Samus so soon, and this one's clearly coming up sooner, so better off with this one.  Especially because without a doubt, Prime 4 will look better and people would figure why not skip the 3DS title?

Fans already know what the deal is, but come on, they showed two Metroid titles in one presentation, and went into full detail on the one coming out soon.

the redesigns and the new art direction.
To be fair, the new designs for FF7 have been known for years, it's the same engine and style they use everywhere between FF15 and Dissidia, basically a touch up from the Advent Children style and the old PS4 tech demo, that wasn't anything new. We knew it was going to be exactly that, so the logo alone was enough as a confirmation that it was being worked on.
And a confirmation that Metroid is being made is also good enough for the fans, regardless of the exact design. I mean, there will be plenty of time to nitpick and complain that we don't like how it's evolved, as usual, but the official confirmation is enough to make people happy.
Point is a logo alone can be more than enough.

one of the things people talked about the most after sonys 2015 conference was shenmue 3. a fucking kickstarter project. some games get a free pass when they are highly anticipated

there was yes, but they were secondary weapons, the game didn't force you to use them. kratos was also much faster with them than he is with this axe, which is weird because they're far heavier yet he swung them like they're a fucking small dagger or something.
he swings this axe like it's a hammer tho, which might also make for a cumbersome combat but i can't make judgments yet.

@SNT EACTLY metroid prime was just a single still! YET Some people think its worth mentioning... we've known about that game for a while now way BEFORE e3 still, no release date announced SMH. Meaning its probably still in alpha right now. Now on my previous post, I take back that sony had the best press conference. Nintendo was straight to the point and kept me wanting to see more. So they were KANGZ this year at e3. Last year Sony reigned supreme though.

no it does not. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXKW6gnwkrk)
i had a longer post in mind about jazz but this shit is making me sleepy and i can't write it
