Title: Corona virus...where do you live and how have your life changed
Post by: Cong Fu Man on March 13, 2020, 01:36:56 AM
Hey all, I live in Kansas City Kansas.  The Midwest state (wizard of oz) in U.S.  Here it hasn’t hit us nearly as bad yet, with only 4 cases reported and no deaths. Unfortunately, The mayor had just declared a state of emergency, banning all gatherings larger than 1,000.  I manage a restaurant, and we are bracing ourselves for a major reduction in foot traffic as well as the ever likelihood of being infected ourselves.  Please share with us where you live right now, what your situation is like, and how you are coping with this disaster looming in the foreseeable future.

I personally think people are overreacting. Sure, it has victimized a large number of people, but the media is overhyping it to being the next Black Plague. Thousands is nothing compared to the dozens of millions who died to the latter. Also, my mother asked me to lend her $3,000 last week to stock up, but I flatly said no because that's like a month and a half of my work wages being blown over overhyped bullshit.

Either way, being the quiet city with a relatively small population that is Erie, Pennsylvania... the worst that happened here are face masks being out of stock.

Italy is losing a hundred people a day. Give it some time.

I mean, that is still small change compared to over 60% of Europe literally gone in less than a decade, even with comparing hundreds a day being factored in.

Not saying it isn't tragic and alarming, but I do think it's being overblown to the point that it's causing more harm than good at times.

I was sent home from work today to make sure our warehouse was prepped for it. I'm in Livermore, CA and I don't think it's as bad as the black plague but thinking it's no big deal is what is making it spread more. It's not really the virus itself it's more the number of cases overwhelming the medical field in sustaining it. Italy literally closed down a lot of their businesses too. And from the trajectory we're on (pretty similar to Italy) we can all be out of work for a bit, and those of us who live paycheck to paycheck will be hit the hardest.

Valencian, but living in Madrid(Spain). A woman from my work was set into quarantine and a possible positive in my sector(a guy who literally works less of 3 meters from me, ouch!).

Also, people is overreacting, at least here in Spain.

Its not as bad as the Ebola virus that hit Africa a couple of years ago, that had the mortality rate of 80%.
It was however horribly quarantined and handled. Some countries that have it are refusing to declare that because they're afraid of scaring their tourists away which is even more horrible.
And the media's coverage of is even worse, I agree. Pharmacies are now fooling people into buying overpriced shitty masks, and canned food is on shortage because some idiots are stockpiling it. While the virus is basically just a glorified Swine flu with no vaccine. Speaking of vaccine, hopefully once its developed, all this hype will die down.

I don't think that people are deliberately overreacting, its just that its easy for the dumb masses to fall for the typical mediatic fear mongering. We've seen this movie before.

Don't need to pay attention to media to do that.

I'm in Belgium. They closed all school yesterday until 3 april. I'm a teacher so I don't really know what will happen..
To be honest what I fear (as a biologist first) is that a new mutation arise, something more dangerous. If you read carefully about reports, 2 viral strains are already know (and in china they discovered 149 mutations already). So... Basically the more the people will be infected, the more the likelyhood of it to happen will increase.
That's not something we should have fun with, even here in Europe. In Italy it's urgent to block virus progression aand it's the same here in Belgium.

The virus has arrived recently here in India. Considering our population and state of affairs on cleanliness, it's gonna be a nightmare if extreme measures of quarantine and cleaning drives aren't taken up. I live in Mumbai which is the best city here but it's still crowded and not as clean as it should be. It's gonna be an uphill task keeping people safe so I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

Well, I live in Norway, in Agder, and yesterday the 12th of March all schools, universities and kindergardens are closed until the 26th and will get a new evaluation at that time. So, I don't have Uni lectures for two weeks, so I left Agder and went home to family.

First death confirmed yesterday too.
People are fucking up for others by gathering way too much things; soap, canned food, toilet papers ... why? The shops will all be open. The bus is free (but you have to enter the back door, since you must not be closed to the driver). Those are some of the things affected here.

indonesian here. i haven't been keeping tabs on news but last time i heard two people were diagnosed positive with the virus which they contracted from a japanese man they met at a party. there hasn't been any reported case of it in the small island town i live in so i won't freak out just yet. that, and you can't possibly get infected if you confine yourself within the walls of your room 24/7 like i do.

my hope goes out to all the sufferers that they get a speedy recovery.

I live in Southwest Washington (state) and I am in the middle. To the north is Seattle, which is ground zero for the COVID-19 outbreak in the states. To the south is Oregon, where there are cases starting to pop up.. and here I am in the middle.

On a physical level, it hasn't affected me yet. But, on a mental level... woof. I'm a big sports fan and with all the sports (save for one I loathe in NASCAR) being either suspended or outright cancelled, it sucks on a massive level.

All I can do is go on with my life and put my focus elsewhere.

I got infected; I am still going to my job even if I can barely get any work done due to of the fever , because they won't pay me otherwise. I don't want to infect my family so I have been sleeping in a popular hotel  down town.

J/K, there is an infected in my city,  she came from italy  and she went to the city's biggest shopping mall after that; I went to that same mall a few days after she was there, but it's already been 2 weeks after tht and I ahvenot developed any synthomps so the higiene measurements inded do work; something about not touching your face after touching potentially infected  surfaces ( as the virus has to get in your face so it can go to your lungs ) and to constantly wash you hands and surfaces.

My city has not had any affectations, just companies providing desinfectant gelat the workplaceand mask selling out at some places.

Here in north-eastern Spain the classes are cancelled until 30th of this month (in the event that it gets worse, the closure will be extended indefinitely, which means that it could even cover the spring break).
And yes, people here are reacting as if it was freaking WW3, with the local super-markets being almost emptied at closure time.
I have a hope that because of spring and higher temperatures, the disease will slowly die off just like SARS and MERS (diseases that are said to share 90% of their genetic material with the new patogen). And more, a pharmaceutical company in the north-west part of my country claims to be asking to the government for permission to begin testing on infected patients.

Amidst the negativity coming from ignorants and the fear-mongering media some positive news aren't bad (per example, seriously, why is the recovery rate so seldom mentioned yet the infections and deaths explained at full detail? It just irks the heck out of me).

Trump finally responded to it in a better tone than on the 28th of February, and people are mad it took him so long, since the virus, apparently, touched American soil near the end of January I think.

I fear for my mom and uncle, as they both have compromised immune systems and with how trivial some people are playing this disease off right now I fear for my family even more.

I live in Wisconsin. No serious outbreaks here to my knowledge, but my good friend, I guess you could call him my boyfriend, in Ohio? Ohio has supposedly somewhere over 100,000 known cases and he hasn't been responding to my texts since the 17th of February. Let's just say I'm worried about this virus.

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

I totally believe you. The measures taken by the goverment(declaring state of alarm) is what needed in a situation like this(even I disagree with the Deadly Alliance. And I'm not a trifachito voter). Hopefully we don't get to the other scenarios of exception and site. My work is directly with catalans(spanish or catalan speakers) and both shares that hysteria in common. For example, the malls I work for opened today(Friday) in Catalonia, but not from tomorrow(they're closed in Euskadi and Madrid, for example). Luckily, we're keeping open the food trucks for those clients who need it(even we're overloaded of work). So, as my workmate gave positive, all my floor is destined to home up to new advice.

Also, about the company which asks for permission, there's another one here in Madrid(and I totally FLIPÉ) offers 4000€ for people to get infected with the virus and use them as Guinea Pigs. CRAZY as fuck. I hope that's just a hoax, fake or else because it's not fucking funny.

And about the media, just think about our TV channels...They spread that hysteria about the COVID19 with less infected and deaths against to, for example, hepatitis C, HIV...and I'm not watching a fucking campaign of conscience for safe sex in the TV(oh, because now PreP is on! let's do stupid things).

Reporting live, from Michigan.

I live in a small city right across the famous "8 mile road" called Warren, and my workplace where I am a Security Supervisor was informed yesterday by Michigan Law that there will be NO VISITORS at our hospitals. All Michigan schools are closed for a month, colleges are switching to online classes, and everyone is buying massive heaps of toilet paper here.

Overreacting? A LOT. I just say people need to practice better hygiene; brush your teeth, wash your face, wash your ass, and don't choke your chicken, play in your cooterbox and poke in your own ass before you shake hands or give out hugs.

New York. School shutting down for a whole month, despite there being no confirmed cases where I live. Thanks to Cuomo, the year won't get extended into the summer.

I go to two schools during the day (one for Computer Tech classes, another for regular classes), but only one of them from what I could piece together actually could work well as an online class, since it's what we use even at school.

My dad goes grocery shopping. Paper towels, frozen food products, milk, butter, all cleared out. It's a damn joke.

But hey, at least this gives me enough time to work more on my MUGEN projects lol

I just moved to BC from Alberta, and sure enough we're amongst the top 2 provinces with the most cases in the country... in Vancouver, select schools and businesses have been shut down (someone tested positive at a university) and of course we got dummies buying up toilet paper too, even back home.

With that said, overall I think most people here are generally handling it well.

Mexico City resident.

Overall the country has had over 40+ confirmed cases, but they're now taking measures: Schools are going to be closed after the 20th of this month until April 20, which coincides with the easter vacations. Since I work as a teacher that means I more likely than not will have no work for 5 weeks. Do note those who have died are people around 75+ years old. COVID is to take into account, but it's nowhere as lethal as other viruses mankind has dealt with before.

There's also the problem of panic buying.

Do note those who have died are people around 75+ years old. COVID is to take into account, but it's nowhere as lethal as other viruses mankind has dealt with before.
The problem is that hospitals soon get submerged and do not have enough equipment to accommodate everyone and they end up refusing anyone who's not in a critical condition (regardless of the sickness or physical condition) and the doctors end up picking those who have a better chance of survival and just watch the others die right in front of them. Oh, you've got cancer ? You'll have to wait a couple months because this is really not a good time to flush your immune system down the toilets. Broken arm ? Sit it out.
That's what this virus is bringing to you, this is not one puny virus that's only targeting the weak so why should we care, this is the whole system that doesn't have enough equipment to accommodate everyone and anything at the same time. Not enough spots in the ICU, not enough mechanical ventilators for everyone. This is not the flu because the flu doesn't need all that to save you once you catch it and you're a person at risk. That's why Italy is clocking up a hundred deaths per day. That's coming to Spain, and French hospitals are already seeing it coming from a distance.
Every country is becoming a war zone / third world country hospital that simply doesn't have what it needs to handle all the sick and the wounded.
Take it seriously and don't spread it to the people at risk that are going to destroy your hospitals.

Also, people don't udnerstand scale, this is very contagious; the worse stimates, as in, nobody takes care of their comunity means that 70%+ gets infected, with a  5% death rate, that's pretty awful,,that means that if america slips, for example, 200 million will get sick and 10 million people will die, this year.
I prefer the super apocaliptic guys (whom would be normally the most annoying in this situation) over the "idgaf, influenza and ebola kill more people" idiots.

I think it's less they don't give a damn and more that overreaction causes more harm than good. People cramming stores in a race to stockpile goods has massive repercussions and isn't nearly as wise a strategy as it seems on the surface; you create a breeding grounds for disease to spread more easily (you can't say cramming indoor areas is not a health hazard... it absolutely is), you're not leaving anything else for others (every man for themselves in play here) and massive economic backlash in the aftermath of the epidemic. Not to mention, in a realistic apocalyptic scenario, stockpilers are going to be painted as the biggest target for raids. I think less panicking and more actual helping out should be priority, because the former is really selfish when you think about it. I'm currently working with the local Catholic church I go to every now and then just to do that even if it's only 2 hours a week and I say this as an atheist instead of selfishly stockpiling (ironically, no reports of the disease have entered my town yet).

We need more of THIS: https://twitter.com/dairyorange/status/1238965825182236672?s=09

 And less of this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/519393657900630016/688858479770861721/Screenshot_20200315-052405.png

Next time, don't assume people don't actually give a damn so much as us being frustrated at irrational harm that fear-mongering has lead to. It's ignorant and demeaning.

So, the director of the Sorbonne epidemiology center in Paris is sending letters explaining that the belief that only old and weakened people are at severe risks is... false. Urgency centers do have young people, young adults as well as children, in severe condition. Not as many deaths in those age groups, but still requiring intensive care. Hospitals in Eastern France are already getting hit hard.
Keep an eye out for more accurate official information.

Older people dies right now because they are more weak than everyone else, but yes indeed everyone can be infected.
We will have mutation, Byakko. RNA viruses have high mutations rates, because it does not involve DNA pol enzyme that is able to correct mistakes from retrotranscriptions (the biologist is speaking here xD).
So basically what I personally fear is that all the stupid people acting like retards are in fact new chances for the virus to roll the dice and get a new mutation that will increase his dangerosity. Of course everything is random, so it could happen or... not.

So for me, the situation of governments planning to more or less infect 70% of populations but delayed in time is stupid. This is just for economical reasons first, second nothing shows that the number of beds in hospital will be enough (we only have 2000 in belgium for example...), and third it does NOT take into consideration this mutation issue. AT ALL.
Stay at home, if possible do not go to work. Get food for 2 weeks.

Reporting from Chile. Here, the hysteria takes all and most of the people are overselling the fear. Most of the cases come from the high-class who travelled to Asia and Europe who got the virus here, but since the Chilean press is so tabloid (and with 0 credibility since the 2019 protests) and the govenment is so useless and stupid, the panic got most of the country and now the classes are suspended in the whole country and in some works too. the rate is low until now (156 until today, almost all in peripheral counties where the high-class people lives), but we're the in second place in latin America after brazil.

But also, probably we're in the first place in the world for the memes about this (since the bat soup thing to the mofos who bought all hygienic supplies for themselves or to resell), so we could die here, but hey, at least we had some laughs, right? yeah seems like school are dismissed, business are closed for a week or two, I heard some of the more popular supermarket was cleaned out by panic hoax mongering housewives, I don't know if there is any positive case here since my town doesn't have direct access abroad

I am made of 50% instant noodle and 50% caffeine (have plenty stock of both to survive nuclear winter), didn't even remember when was the last time I contracted common cold, not even mosquitoes desperate enough to suck my blood, I bet the virus would find better host elsewhere.

Argentina here, 65 cases, 2 deaths and all the cases from Argentinians who went to risky countries.
For now, 0 autochthonous cases, but in a few days here will come the cold, so we are ready for the worst stage, the people are buying too many products to stock up for weeks.
Schools closed, bars closed.
You CAN´T come to Argentina in ANY case.
Less people on the street.
More home office.

Please, not take this case like a "typical paranoia", we are affront to a virus that we don´t have a vaccune to alleviate the situation. This shit is VERY contagious, you can have the virus without knowing it or spread it to another without knowing it.
This virus is an RNA type virus, which can mutate for the worse or the better, and it is likely that it is already mutating for the worse in Europe.
Italy, Spain and France took this virus like a joke, and look them now.
Comparing this virus with other viruses and at other times is totally stupid,
Just stay in home the more time you can, and wash your hands.
Take care of others, and wait that this shit is totally over.

And they started to restrict international flights today.
And all the infected are completely isolated.

We have a little bit of paranoia but it's because we are a third world county and we have only a small number of medical facilities that can treat infected, the best we can do is having as little infected as posible so we can give them good treatment.

From the states, Atlanta, Georgia to be exact. We currently have 1 death and 146 cases. The good news is we have some of the best medical facilities around, including The CDC. The bad news is people are only now starting to take this situation serious. We also have the busiest airport in the world which in and of itself is an issue in this situation. Most none essential places are closed and the mayor has limited public gatherings in conjuction with The CDC's recommendations. I predict our numbers will increase here but as long as its not at a rapid pace we should be mostly fine. I do believe this is going to be going on for a few months.

I'm in Burlington, North Carolina and unfortunately I work for Domino's Pizza as a driver. Last week was one of our slowest ever, but now that the restaurants here in NC are ordered closed aside from takeout and delivery, I anticipate a ridiculous amount of business. That sounds cool and all, because at least my job is safe for now, but we'll be offering no-contact deliveries and I am sure the tips will go down, plus the area I'm in is pretty conservative and there are a lot of people ignoring the warnings.

My biggest concern is that ever since my sister got evicted, my mom (who was living with her since my dad passed in 2014) has been staying with me. She collects disability for chronic COPD, and at her age, she's a very high risk for this virus. I have some money saved but not enough to miss work. So now I get to go to work and make all these deliveries, exposing myself to the virus every day for $8 an hour plus tips, and worry about bringing it home with me. I wash my hands compulsively and have been following all the suggestions for staying healthy, but I'm still pretty fucking worried.

More than 300 deaths have been confirmed.
... Holy shit, I got a bit confused so I looked it up, but you mean 300 deaths just today ? God damn.

for those of you that need a bit more social contact while being quarantined, remember that discord has been a blessing for most people.

Discord is both an app for your phone or a browser application for your computer that works a bit like IRC , with channels and stuff, it also has voice chatting.

Sorry to hear... that's such horse shit.

The fact that select states and provinces still haven't enforced certain jobs to be put a full stop yet with some financial support is sickening and my hometown is no better. These employers need to be jailed. They've closed down schools, restaurants, major facilities, etc but casinos and overall greed remain in full swing. "Officials" still refuse to support those who could potentially be out for months, but wildly expect people to accept poverty over feeding their family.
My only grandparent (she is highly prone to strokes) that I'm blessed to still have is also at high risk. I trust my family will be okay, but very little is being done to ensure people will be staying home which is crazy to me.

It's getting pretty real in my city too. Our rates are still going up in BC and everything is basically on lock down now for the next 2-8 weeks. But steps are being taken to encourage and ensure people to stay home. Employment Insurance claims being granted to a large majority of workers. There are even reports of Mortgages and Rent being put on suspension until the crisis is over.

I'm in Pageland, South Carolina.

According to reports, the virus is in my state. A case was confirmed in Kershaw which is not too far from where I live :(

And on top of that, the schools in my state have been canceled for 2 weeks.

I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Theres been confirmed cases and deaths here already. I work in a grocery store. I manage a meat and seafood department. Let me tell you it's been insanity. They've closed all stores around us, we're the last ones open. I'm on no days off for the forseeable future, dealing with thousands of customers (being in a large city.) I've broken up fights, tried too put meat purchasing limitations on panic buyers, called police several times (without even getting a response at times due too high call volume), and have had too do all my personal shopping during the stores off hours just too be able to have minimal items for myself. In 10+yrs of retail I've never seen anything like this. I'm afraid for my life everyday at work, it's scary. My vehicle was broken into during my shift 2 days ago because someone saw grocery bags after we ran out of everything inside. Our truck loads have been coming later and later every day with less product, we're on a dangerous shortage. Unfortunately our store is refusing too close because we're all everyone has got besides fast food and pizza joints, we've alteted our opening and closing hours but it's caused more violence from customers.

I'm much more afraid of humanity than the virus itself. I bought a gun too protect my household since this block of houses and apartments have been getting broken into.

I Live in California, Santa Cruz County about 1.5 - 2 hours from San Francisco, As of Yesterday we are now on Shelter in place.

Officials are directing the public to stay at home as much as possible, with certain exceptions, such as to go out and get food at supermarkets, pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy, buy gas, “You will still be able to walk your dog, or go on a hike alone or someone you live with, or even with another person, as long as you keep six feet between you bank and check up on relatives.
Certain essential activities are exempt, such as essential government and business services or essential public infrastructure construction, like housing.
All Bars, night club, Gyms, and other non essential businesses have closed. Although there is still people in parks chilling like nothing is wrong.
Stores have been depleted of certain items, people buying stuff all stupid.
Luckily I'm still working and so is my girl friend so our income inst affected like others.
Just hopping people get there shit together or else we might end up like other places and be put on full lock down.
My county has 13 confirmed cases so far, not sure if there is any deaths, could be wrong. California alone is at 749 cases and 13 deaths.
Stay Healthy people!

and "all of canada", means that the population of canada is more spread than in california, so I say california is not doing much worse than canada , if not otherwise.

College exchange students on holiday was the first speculation, but not confirmed. I know an elderly lady passed from it fairly recently. Not nearly as prominent as elsewhere but enough too cause community panic.  Lots of traffic due to the legal recreational marijuana also, so any guess is possibe i suppose.

I live in the lower mainland area of BC, aka Greater Vancouver. population of 2.5 million, due to the close proximity to Seattle, and population density our cases have started to explode. Right now they are only testing people in critical condition and the numbers are skyrocketing. 180+ already. Our Government waited way too long to mandate anything and even two weeks ago was saying, "oh yeah go outside, spend money."

We just declared a state of emergency today. Thankfully I can work from home, and business hasn't suffered to much. but we already dropped like 25% and I'm worried if it will get worse. Even though its in Canada, we are owned by an American multi-national, so we could all get rolled over so some execs portfolio doesn't dip too low.

Live in Maryland suburbs. Did an accidental Thirteen cosplay (black jacket, red shirt, beige pants with my earloop mask). Busses became free. Bread aisle was still barren. No instated curfews, but all restaurants have banned sit-down eating. Every place is doing free delivery, which I can't take advantage of because I have no money.

There was plenty of people still out and about, but it seems like everyone is stocking up for worse.

This might fall on deaf ears for the majority of the populace, but seeing as stupidity is more infectious than this virus I just want rant about a few things.

Not saying this to you guys, but people in general need to stop freaking out about this virus and calm their collected shit. This is virus is bad yes, but it isn’t the apocalyptic super virus that many mainstream media and news makes it out to be. They’re so fixated on numbers regarding the number of cases and deaths that they’re indirectly the cause of all the fear and panic that’s been going on the world. It’s ironic that the one number they always seem to omit is the number of people who actually recovered, while yes the virus can be lethal the majority of those who contract it will experience mild symptoms that go away after a week or two.

The amount of lockdowns and and closures going around the world maybe worrisome, but I assure you this is probably the best course of action for the time being. I would rather close everything down and reduce the spread than leaving everything open and risk infecting more people. People have lost their jobs because of it, but plenty of new ones are being opened right now so it’s probably the best time right now to work at places like grocery stores. The government is also actively taking steps to ensure that everyone affected by this will be compensated in some way be it financial aid or freezing payments.

There’s probably a bunch of other things I want to rant about, I just hope that this post helps calm those in this forum who are currently feeling some sort of fear or anxiety over these trying times even just a little. While it’s ok to be concerned and worried, it’s by no means a time for panic as that will absolutely do nothing in this situation. Just take it a day at a time and try your best to stay away from always looking at news. While it’s good to stay up to date, sometimes ignorance is bliss and will make your day by day much more bearable without the constant overly dramatic doom posting that most people will try to shove down your throat. Stay safe and healthy everyone, I have no doubt in my mind we’ll get through this.

good thing i manage to get my family out and flew them back in our home island when i heard the capital was gonna get locked down. still stayed here cause i've got guys who doesn't know what to do or where to go cause they can't live the city,  manage to keep the shop open though limited hours and set up beds for my guys to sleep in inside. profit is the same and i still have contact with my suppliers and they still are working.

heard some big companies are closed for a whole month , fast food is closed for 3 days and they are waiting for whatever the local units will say. good thing it's the summer break , if this happened in september or it spread before it came to japan or korea i don't think my country would take it seriously.

I live in Kentucky, in a very rural county. Started gettin' concerned about this whole thing about a week ago, and now I'm very concerned. No confirmed cases in our county  yet, although there are rumors of a case in the county. There are cases starting to creep towards us from the outermost counties. Schools are closed, non-essential businesses are supposed to be closed, and restaurants are carry-out and delivery only.

I work at a CPA office, and I don't believe we're going to close unless there's a government mandated shutdown of all businesses. My boss and a coworker are working from home, and half the people at the office are freaking out and considering staying home, which won't make things any easier for me and my other coworkers.

I'm not worried about myself, I'm worried about my grandparents. They're in their 60's, 70's, and 80's and all but one of them are in rough shape as it is. As someone who has lived minutes away from their grandparents their whole life, it's killing me to not go over there and see them. I'm afraid to go hang out with my dad and brothers as well, since my dad goes up to take stuff to my grandparents and I don't wanna risk passing it along to my brothers or dad to get it passed along to my grandparents. It's been my weekend routine my whole life to go visit all of them, and now having to abstain from doing it out of fear for their well-being isn't very fun, to put it mildly. It's funny, my daily routine itself hasn't really  changed, but just the fact of knowing what's going on seems to give off a strange vibe.

kinda hard searching for it now. all i remember is that it was a 2015 article about a "new" strain of SARS i don't remember exactly who published it could be new york times or the doctor's name or the group or facility he was warning about but i do remember they were chinese.

some are predicting it'll be 6 months max. before it'll all go back to normal.

taxes are now on halt in my country and water and electric bills could be next if things goes even more south. as good as it sounds a good chunk of the population has no means to get pay checks. especially in entertainment businesses like cinemas , concerts , casinos or even businesses that depends on crowds like malls. food business are still active . fast food are still up , restaurants and bistros are still operating but only take outs.

logistics and delivery services are still up but only in select areas and select companies are still operational. the only good thing from the government is politicians are working without any infighting for once in our history. national , regional and local gov't are listening to each other so that's a fucking plus. crime rate is low.

sugar is a rarity here, at least the common white granuled sugar, I switched to brown sugar for my coffee, but still I was looking for sugar earlier today, found a kilo pack at small minimarket, I bought 1 kilo since other might need them too. on the way out. I saw this young chinese lady, jumped down from the passenger seat of her car driver stayed in the car engine left running, rushed into the minimarket, masked, both hands gloved with small plastic bags, rushing between the racks, ran back to the cashier, ran to her car, took off, all before I even arrive at my car
confirmed case in my town for several days already is 2.

I think she must have binge watching The Walking Dead

Well, an employee at my job has it, been confirmed. Store management pulled us aside yesterday. Supposedly this person has been contained for 4 days as of today; but was at work for 2 days while contagious.

The CDC will be coming in too answer our questions. Not sure if they're closing us or testing us. I'm a little scared. I've got diabetes and heart disease, which I'm told is very dangerous during this time, and they will not allow us too leave work without a doctor's excuse and they don't provide me insurance as a manager until I've done it for 2 years. Which i have 3 months left, haven't managed that long.

I'm a little peeved too, every grocery store gave their employees hazard pay, safety precautions, etc. Our company gave us nothing... Except a 25$ gift card TO THE STORE. And an agreement too file for PTO if we catch the virus..no guarantee though.

I mean, that is still small change compared to over 60% of Europe literally gone in less than a decade, even with comparing hundreds a day being factored in.

Not saying it isn't tragic and alarming, but I do think it's being overblown to the point that it's causing more harm than good at times.

i understand what your point is , and yes media is over blowing it. but people will react to it in very different ways . for us we're lucky that we can spare a few weeks off cause we can afford it but for people who are living for pay check to pay check it's basically a death sentence for them. so i understand why there are people panicking.

No, they're not. Here in France we've been hitting a hundred deaths per day even though we've been in total isolation for a week, and Italy is at over 600 deaths a day. Germany seems to have just started reacting, after a week of every local state saying "I'll decide if I'm in danger at my own pace, thank you very much" which is exactly what a virus like that needs to propagate super fast, so they'll have a pretty bad curve in a couple of weeks too. People in Florida were partying around like they don't give a fuck, that's going to change real fast.
Different countries are at different stages, but this is serious and yes the media everywhere need to take it as seriously as it is, because every hospital is crumbling already. It's not the Black Plague, but we shouldn't need to compare it to that, it's not a hurdle we're supposed to look at and say "see, it's not as bad as that, so it's fine". We should be able to handle it much better than the worst period in the Middle Ages, if we could all just react a lot faster and take it seriously.
And yes, that worldometer site is accurate.

We aren't. That number has already gone up. People are still not taking it seriously and we are now just into our second week from tomorrow. The signs are visible that there's gonna be a massive increase in cases. There are rumors that China still has new cases showing up and most of these figures are fake and highly watered down.

In the case of my country, a lot of this could have been prevented if we had a more competent President for this country. Trump had months of warning in advance of an impeding disease before it ever broke news and he treated the whole notion as light jest. Then, when the problem does make an arrival here, he still is taking this lightly and that's why we have bullshit like panic buyings, riots and xenophobia running amok. I think that is part of the reason why I am angry about this whole thing.

Well, Spain:
- Number of infected people: 29.909. 12% of these people are sanitaries(doctors, nurses, etc).
- Deaths: 1.813(1021 of these are from Madrid, where I currently live). So yeah, we're at 6% of death rate now.

And well, I'm pretty worried about a close friend of me, who is a nurse.

Now goverment of Spain has decided to expand the state of alarm 15 days more.  Those dumbasses knew the truth of the virus SINCE Feb. 2nd. They did not take meassures. They allowed mass meetings, so we will never know how many of those deaths or infected may've been avoided.

I'm not getting out of home except for a week buy(food, just that). Aside this, I'm like 300Km from my family, no flat mate or anyone to speak with in person(of course whatsapp is there, but not the same). So yay, skype. Balcony walks, exercice with big flowerpots, leg squats and etc. Also studying, spriting and for the first time in years, drawing in a serious way.

I may become crazy one of these days @_@

Think it could be worse. Here in Chile, we're in level 4 but some people (especially the jerkasses of my government) still treats it like level 2. here they've to make curfew (we're in it now, since 10pm to 5am), as if that would solve something (especially with high class people going to other states to "vacation" and companies still requering people to work during the pandemia)

Here at Singapore
we experienced toilet roll run way earlier than rest of the world. now is OK
but masks still.. no where to buy and media is selling mask didn't help propaganda since they don't have it.
but In the meantime, wearing mask is a must in China even official number is "0" now in some cities.

From an outsider point of view trump did a good job to apply the travel ban in the 1st wave, and compare to that SG didn't, and SG suffered in 1st wave reached number 2 on the list for awhile. but your media is just brainlessly play the blame game. every trump did was wrong something like that.

a few days earlier we experienced a food run since Malaysia close border. Since all food is imported, lock down means no food. so people are in real panic mode.  luckily now food supply is back on track

I envy you guys may never need to worrier about food since US is No.1 on food export.

Then i read this article:

Here in México we had in 2009 a similar but better contained cousin pandemia, the NH1N1.

When in those days a mexican was or were seen in another country they threated them in the most unhuman xenophobic way possible, now the story change a little and the humans don't learn from the past.

Of course speaking from Eagleland perspective.

I live about 30 miles from D.C., in a small city. I'm personally not worried about catching it, I'd have a better chance of getting into a car accident. And fortunately my job is essential, so I'm not out of luck making money. Not as fortunate, I'm the only one working in my family.

Obviously, it's a bad situation all around. Everything's in shutdown, cities are getting hit real bad, and it's legitimately unsafe for the elderly to go outside. The economy being strangled to death is putting it generously. Small business is as good as screwed, and city small shops would need a miracle to survive, given the vicious combo of lost revenue and absurdly high expenses over there.

I'd love to rip on the anti-science GOP (it's just the flu, smart) and the oversensitive Dems (let's just do nothing because closing borders is racist or something) since neither of them show any real competence on anything truly important. But I have to cut it short there, because nothing could've been done to stop this disaster. It would've found a way to penetrate the country no matter what action was taken. And the nature of the virus would've made it spread in mass anyway. Not like any other country has found a way to dodge it. Outside of Antarctica

Best case scenario is a sufficient enough slowdown within the next month to slowly re-establish normality, while waiting on the long-term vaccine. South Korea seemingly were able to get a handle on things thanks to numerous testing kits, but apparently it also utilized methods that some would call an invasion of privacy. Don't think that's realistic in most other areas, but forcing isolation within the big cities should produce a similar effect on a more gradual scale. South Korea still has some issues in Seoul.

Finally, frivolous numbers given the overall gravity of the situation, but I feel it must be said. Experts claim that up to 70% of Americans will get infected in the next 18 months. That's laughably inaccurate, and the natural skeptic in me wonders why they'd use such a crazy high number. Current number of cases in the US are at 35,000. To get to even 1%, that number would have to spike to 3 million. Even that number is lofty, much less 210 million. Even Italy, which inexplicably got hit real bad, is not a the 1% mark yet. So yeah, be careful believing what media tells you and stuff.

The flu hits dozens of millions of people a year (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html) in the US, and that's with a vaccine AND just counting the people with symptoms. If you think these coronavirus estimates are crazy high, it's because you don't realize how easily those things spread, and how even with proper testing, you still would miss a lot of people that don't have symptoms. I don't know if 70% is accurate, but it's definitely way in the double digits. The flu is in the double digits, and that's contained with a vaccine. This is not fake news, this is not fear mongering.
Title: Re: Corona virus...where do you live and how have your life changed
Post by: Niitris on March 23, 2020, 04:53:06 PM
Influenza doesn't cause mass levels of self-isolation. So yeah tens of millions would get infected by that. People vastly underestimate just how little of a number 10 or 20 thousand can be (understandably so), when stacked next to a sizable populace of people.

This is not fake news, this is not fear mongering.

No one said it was, I certainly didn't. In fact, I'll re-emphasize that it's not being taken seriously enough give the enormous strain on the economy, and the flawed healthcare industry as a whole (moreso the people who rely on their services).

But it was an observance that sparked curiosity in me, and how people will use numbers to exploit people's emotion on subject matters. I wouldn't quite know what their motive would be in doing that. Maybe I was simply being paranoid, and they're just using that as a way to tell people how serious it all is.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/21/coronavirus-trading-house-senate-140260
There are stories about how congress officials were selling stocks knowing how dire things would become, but not using that information to inform the public. And of course subsequently lying about it too. There are definitely people out there trying to game others (or the system) out of it all, right down to silly supply hoarding.

Influenza doesn't cause mass levels of self-isolation.
Uh ? We're doing isolation to slow this down. If isolation is done properly, then it might not get as bad as that. but then again, the US is obviously not doing isolation properly.
Second thing is, isolation is done to slow it down, it's unlikely to stop it. Contagion will happen, it's just that it'll happen much slower if people do this right, and if it's slow enough, then it can very easily be handled in hospitals and early care, even if there's still a 1~3% mortality rate. But the total numbers who will have gotten it will still be very high a year and a half from now. It's just that if it's slowed down enough, you won't hear much about it because people will be able to go to the hospital a few at a time and they'll all get proper treatment and most of them will make it out easily. If it doesn't work, they'll all get it at the same time and they'll clog the hospitals and a lot of people who didn't have to die from it will die.

The Chinese government wasn't just negligent, they were criminal as usual, shutting down and vanishing the people ringing the alarm bells. But you want to talk about negligence when you're from Brazil with Bolsonaro as your president ? The guy who's still denying the threat of the virus even though he himself is infected by it ?

It's everyone's fault, everyone on the planet found out about it in mid January at the latest and yet the governments of the world still waited a month and a half to do anything about it. Only after Italy cracked, people started saying "let's wait another 2 weeks to see how that goes".

That's literally how the real world works, this has nothing to do with online forums. If people who hear you talk think you're being xenophobic, they're going to judge you and call you xenophobic, no one cares what your background is. Go back to school or something.

Xenophobia - dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

FYI, sourcing the root of the disease as a factual point is NOT xenophobic.
COVID-19, AKA Coronavirus, AKA Wuhan Virus did indeed come from Wuhan, China. There's nothing xenophobic with stating facts.
That would be like "Japan bombed Pearl Harbor" and saying "that's xenophobic towards the Japanese". Which is not, cuz it's a fact.

Now what would be xenophobic would be smth like "therefore, all the Chinese are ______" or smth that stirs up hateful remarks.

As far as I can see, nobody here has done anything like that.

There's no such thing as stating facts, especially on the Internet. People only say things for a specific reason, and only ever cherry pick the facts that suit what they want to say. That's why people will interpret what you say differently and may decide to call you xenophobic.
And viruses don't have nationalities.

That's a bold statement you're making.
Deciding to call someone xenophobic is fair. But at least use it in the right context.

And as a chemist, I can firmly say that most scientific nomeclatures are well driven from multiple sources including but not restricted to: names, countries, continents and etc.

For example,
- MERS AKA Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus clearly singles out a certain area in the world. That doesn't make it racist.
- JEV AKA Japanese encephalitis also "technically" has a nation's name but it's not due to xenophobic reasons.
- Alzheimer's disease was named after a person "Alois Alzheimer" not to hate on anyone with the name "Alzheimer".
- Black Plague has the word "Black" but has nothing to do with hating on African desecendants.

I can list so many more examples of "hateful sounding" words in science that in fact has nothing to do with singling out, discriminatory xenophobia.
So, I remark once again,

Stating that COVID-19 came from Wuhan, China is NOT being xenophobic.
Heck, even the recent "Ebola" virus is derived from an African tribe's area...

What's compelling you to use that as a name instead of the many other names it has ? Coronavirus, Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2. If you wanted to go by where it came from, you could even call it the Wuhan virus. But no, let's not use any of that, let's not use its actual birthplace, let's use a much broader term for no real reason (and pretend that this is more fitting to designate as its birthplace rather than Wuhan), no matter how you try to justify it after the fact.
This is a decision you made, and it's very easy for anyone who hears that to form a conclusion on why you made that decision.
How do you not get that this is a conclusion people wil inevitably make about you, no matter how you try to explain to them that you are only driven by facts and logic (which you're cherry-picking) ?

Actually there is. Facts are facts whether you regard them as truth or not. What you're referring to are "opinions" and you claiming Mr.Karate JKA is xenophobic is just that... your opinion, no one else's. Don't speak for people...

So you basically accuse me of cherry-picking when I just provided you with MULTIPLE cases that the scientific community decided to coin certain diseases based on its origins and yet I'm the bad guy?

ROFL, I think you need to learn how and why science names things as it is. That's why I used AKA for clarification.

and FYI, I use COVID-19 cuz it's the shortest and the simplest.
Five capital letters with two numbers are much easier to write than "Coronavirus" or "Wuhan Virus"  ;D

So you basically accuse me of cherry-picking when I just provided you with MULTIPLE cases that the scientific community decided to coin certain diseases based on its origins
But they didn't do that for this one, they gave it multiple actual names and none of them are based on its point of origin.

I though, based on your logic: "There's no such thing as stating facts, especially on the Internet. People only say things for a specific reason, and only ever cherry pick the facts that suit what they want to say." clearly goes againt mine so therefore, I kind of automatically grouped myself as the "you", but since you've cleared it up it's fine.

What JKA was doing was spreading propaganda, and whether it's true or not, he needs strong evidence and proof to justify his claims. FYI, still not xenophobic though.

And regarding naming part: No, they didn't but just because the community (which they did numerously in the past) didn't do it for COVID-19, doesn't deny the fact that Wuhan, China was the source of the virus.

Umm... that's what discussions are for. Again, doesn't make what he said any less factual or even hateful if it's based on truth. You coming off like a pompous jackass is more factual based on your own logic, but again that's a matter of opinion and discussion. Just my two cents.

well, people want to turn it into a classes fight there.

This weekend ,in the middle of the quarantine, the president held a public vote to cancel the contract of an international beer company so it does not open in mexico; ofc, his party won. The previous week, his party changed the constitution so reelection of congress member is now legal. The owner of the bank the president uses to  distribute government help spoke on national tv yesterday (his tv station of course) about how covid is not deadly and people should stop the quarantine and go back to work; of course, eh insulted the parties opossed to the government party.

For more context the mexican president has been denying covid to be a problem, he even mentioned that mexico should not take measures until we had the same problems as spain or italy. The places where measures have been taken are states governed by the oposition of the federal government.

and here i thought my government is fucked up. at least when shit goes down they know what to do.

well my city is on level 4 lock down as of today. top hospitals are on red alert. our district is considering closing all borders except for the main road connecting to the main city and other cities. town folks are organizing and barring the streets and rerouting traffic so we can easily secure anbd monitor who goes in and out our streets. by 8pm only handful of people are roaming in the streets shops are closed at 6pm.

good thing my town is pretty much isolated from the rest of the city , local officials can easily gate keep our whole district if it's necessary.

down south in the islands life is pretty much normal , they closed off all the piers since february only select ships are to be let in. that's a sigh of relief for me if it goes all south in the mainland i know my family is safe.

Officially announced yesterday that today at 8am, our state went into the "Safer at Home" order. It's effective until April 24th, or until further notice. Can't leave the house unless you need essentials, and hospital help. Going for walks and social distancing (6 feet apart in public) is fine. Still have to pay bills and rent, though, which is absolute bullshit. I ain't risking jail time just because you need my money that badly. Still gotta pay, though >..<

And yes, the jail time is an actual clause in the order. 30 day jail time or $250 fine. All jails here have Covid-19 with improper distancing between other inmates and I can't afford $250 in fines right now. We got a shitty governor. Plus, the government issue stimpacks aren't even in circulation yet. Hell, they're still trying to figure them out, even though they were able to pay 1.5 trillion in bailouts for the poor, defenseless bankers on Wall Street no problem.

We will be on lockdown in 30 hours aproximately. No going outside except for essential workers, going for supplies/food, and medical reasons, wich need a special permission from the police. I don't mind that much to be honest, but people gathered massively to stock supplies, even if was assured that the chain of supplies won't be affected at all (idk if that would be true, I don't see any other part of the world with shortage).

RIght now here the cases are rapidly increasing as far as I know.

In case I forgot to ever mention, I'm from East Java Indonesia, yesterday I found a single loaf of bread on nearby minimarket, I wear gloves more than I wear mask honestly I don't breathe well and feel dizzy with mask on, I just keep distance to people at the cashier, while we can't avoid not to touch thing like atm, money, and trolley, etc. so I wear a bulky grubby motorcycle gloves, also for a reminder not to instinctively touching my own face during shopping.
I heard the state of emergency is prolonged until the end of muslim holiday (one and half month from now?), since my country is predominantly muslim probably the government is very afraid of mass mobilization of people from big cities with more chance of being a carrier or infected with virus to their birthplaces where their elderly parents are living probably small less equipped rural places.

for me easter is obviously canceled.

I was order to close my business until further notice here in Ohio, that was about 11 days ago. I'm expecting this to last at least 6 months, probably longer honestly.

Got another job at a grocery store working in a freezer on 3rds. The managers pretty much won't touch anything on the floor because they don't know who has come through and touched items already. As someone trained in cross contamination I can say for sure you should be wiping down all of your canned and boxed goods when you get home and wash your hands afterwards. Not that it will prevent the virus that can stay in the air up to 3 minutes if you walk through it at a grocery store...

I think this is something we'll be recovering from for years. It's wild to think that the goal is to slow it down, with no real end in sight.

Stay safe friends

meanwhile, i am currently and have been staying in a hotel room for almost a month due to my apartment being renovated, however it has currently been delayed for obvious reasons so i will be stuck here for possibly the majority of 2020. being stuck in a hotel room by myself all day for weeks on end and resorting to eating canned foods mostly because theres no kitchen is soooooooorta making me a lil crazy. just a bit. thankfully i can atleast take a walk once in awhile but generally its way too damn cold here in SF to stay out for more than an hour or two at a time.

although cases number is still relatively low in my country Indonesia, but the death toll in comparison with recovered patients are rather high, I think we are doing great in socializing what to do like washing hand, wearing mask, are adopted well, but social distancing within family is a against culture, so I'm afraid in coming weeks or months since we are heading toward uncertainty, and many young people who work in big cities are laid off and probably struggling to survive the higher living expenses there without monthly income are forced to return to the rural places they come from carrying home virus with them and spreading into rural less equipped communities, we might get into real trouble soon.

I practice self distancing, I have avoided my mom, and also my aunt as they are all in their 70s not to bring any potential exposure to them especially my aunt since she and her husband are both heavy smoker,  here local people see strangers as very potential suspects but when it comes to family all rules are bypassed easily sit together eat together, chat for hours

2 days ago I shortly visited my mom to deliver birthday present for my sister, as I about to enter there was a package coming from courier and my mom treated the package as if it contained radioactive waste, also the day before as I showed my mom the jacket I custom ordered for my sister through whatsapp, she already said it needs washing, so I have washed a brand new raw selvedge denim jacket with detergent and rinse and soak it in dettol for 1 hour, the next day when I delivered the jacket with only slightly damp cuff and collar on a hanger hoping the damp collar would easily be shaped to look right, my mom immediately sun baked it  in the garden for the rest of the day, but she kept offering me something to eat, and asked me to sit close to help her cutting elastic bands to make masks for her friends and relatives (I got 2 masks just being made as I was sitting there), later on that day my sister came home with her new boyfriend she was helping him in his family store that sell food and grains near traditional market place, a very high risk place, I also learn my brother is travelling between two cities to visit his wife's father, so while they put their mom under house quarantine but I think they missed what risk they bring home to her each day, my mom's husband is also a heavy smoker who refuse to wear mask since he obviously cant smoke with one on.

Just hoping summer comes sooner, usually this kind of respiratory virus goes away in warmer month.

The thing that is scary about the corona virus is how infectuous it is.

Just take a look at your country/state daily graph with the number of cases; if they duplicate everyday, you are screwed, if they duplicate everyother day it's still bad, but shows that something is being done. In my country right now it is duplicating every 3-4 days; thankfully we got there before the number of cases got too high, as the graph was very similar to spain/italy, early this month.

I can imagine less involved countries have successfully contained the situation, but Japan and HK is in the region do they really perform that well?

When this eventually blows over we're not gonna learn anything from this experience and go back to being exactly the way we were before. At least here in the US, that is.

It's a fucking shame, really.

The thing that is scary about the corona virus is how infectuous it is.

Just take a look at your country/state daily graph with the number of cases; if they duplicate everyday, you are screwed, if they duplicate everyother day it's still bad, but shows that something is being done. In my country right now it is duplicating every 3-4 days; thankfully we got there before the number of cases got too high, as the graph was very similar to spain/italy, early this month.

hmm I wonder if the new cases found in my country is just the speed they can process the samples, they are pretty stagnant at 100+ cases/ day
I bet there are a lot more unreported cases, since people just take it as a flu.

It existed before it was spread in China. Calling it "Chinese Virus" paints a very bad picture for China when it's not really warranted for that reason and sorta just shits on its' people who have to endure this way worse than most of the other parts of the world.

It's pretty xenophobic and the reasoning you're providing here already makes you sound worse then when you started being extremely homophobic in the past.

So congrats, because of your stubbornness to not change your mind on your bad posting in this forum, you have not only shown to homophobic views, you now have shown to have xenophobic views as well! Thanks for showing us all :)

do you guys live in a fucking bubble? do your research please and lets not pretend that china is all that innocent here.
lets take a look at how they handled this situation:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-51364382
this doctor tried to warn the world about the virus way back in december. police visited and told him to stop talking about or else he'd be punished by law. he returned to work and caught the virus from a patient and died from it.
they censored him and ignored him instead of starting an early quarantine and saving everyone the trouble of dealing with this nasty disease. instead, they let it spread and blow over their faces.
btw that censorship continues. some legitimate information about the virus has been suppressed by government control over the news and efforts to silence negative coverage. numerous articles have been censored since the beginning of the crisis. online posts and hashtags related to the coronavirus and demands for free speech have been quickly deleted. independent journalists and activists have been harassed by authorities for sharing information about the coronavirus on social media.
people in china have lived under government censorship for many years, but now many are questioning how censorship may have delayed an effective response to the virus outbreak and put lives at risk.
china is 100% guilty of mishandling this situation and there is nothing xenophobic about that. remove your politically correct glasses and look at the wider picture here.

i've read about that guy and there were 2 other doctors who conveniently died aswell and didn't they just killed another guy who criticize ping this last month for being so slow. dude is a fairly known in the business society in asia guy just vanished and nobody is talking about it.

there was a 2015 article about the chinese virologists are handling the virus. i'm having a hard time looking for the exact article all i know it's way back in 2015 and probably was published in new york times. im not sure about the newyork times and it's a strain of corona virus that they injected in bats.

the article talks about how it'll be bad to develop a virus that could easily affect humans. and heavily criticize how they are so casual working on it.

And now in Italy, where I live, have 119,827 cases in total.
It's getting hopeless every single day.

I have some chinese blood with me, I have no problem calling it chinese virus... but it beyond pointing fingers now, the whole world was and still too relax at this, in our country our government didn't isolate the capital for being the most infected and the most qualified to deal with it, instead he allow people to leave the capital by mass transportation and ten of thousands have since fled the capital, dunno what the real number of the infected now since probably our country is too limited in resource to give mass tests, I don't trust the count on that daily graph for my country. I suspect there are a lot more untested and silently spreading.

the only way out for me is when the summer comes.

I really hope there is no terrorist come with an idea to strike with a bomb or anything while public are in panic and medical resource is depleted.

I live down in Long Island, NY.Hicksville specifically. No cases here so far. Though there has been a ton of food gone, so theyve placed limits in some grocery stores. Some of them are only open from 10 am to 5 pm and only let in 6 people at a time. Thankfully, my fridge is packed. I've been cooped up in my basement trying out the MGS series and the new Hyper DBZ characters (18, Krillin, Tien).

i doubt that [E], seems like there are just a lot more undetected cases going around from the beginning , its just the testing catches up to the previously undetected cases based on a new patient who shows symptom they reveal suspect patients who is in this patience's social bubble, so with every 1 new cases found they tested a lot more suspects, so the number grows a lot faster. so that's why I don't feel safe by reading low found cases in my town since I believe they are just silently spreading and so far undetected discounted as common flu.

since yesterday I saw a lot more public activities here, both from what I see myself or social media posts of friend and family showing group activities people having fun together, I somewhat feel like a lost japanese soldier who hide in the jungle long after WW2 was over, did I miss any memo?? perhaps #covid19 is out of trending topic ??? people just get bored and stop caring??? I dunno whatsup... my brother is golfing with his friends

how strange two days ago the government announce wearing mask being mandatory, and immediately social activities flares up showing people with no masks gathering, is it somekind of protest? I feel like I'm the last person doing social distancing in my family, really puzzling me.

Yeah, we're in our 4th week of stay-at-home order over here, and the weather has been fantastic all along, and now the government is sad that people have started going out last week-end as well. We've been pretty obedient and supportive of the stay-at-home order for 3 weeks, but last week-end was just too good to pass - but still very reasonable in my city. I went out for restocking today and it's still a lot more empty than usual (it's usually absolutely jam packed where I live, and it's a decently large mall), but there's noticeably more people than the last 3 weeks.
Health workers are afraid that we'll see numbers shoot up again by Thursday because of that week-end - and it was beginning to go down too, we touched a thousand deaths a day for a couple days last week but we were down to just over 600 or so.
The counter at worldometers was super weird at that point, almost doubling the numbers we're getting officially, I haven't even seen any particularly alarming report today yet right now the counter says 1400 deaths, so I'm not sure what's going on there. We were at 500 deaths in a day this week-end, but now I'm seeing conflicting reports about going back up to 900 and 1400, and other reports saying it's still at 600 deaths today. Someone's messing up something. Maybe because they've started also giving numbers of deaths in elderly care places, and it's not clear if that's in addition to the hospital total or if it's included.
Title: Re: Corona virus...where do you live and how have your life changed
Post by: kakkoii superhero on April 08, 2020, 06:31:47 PM
different countries report their daily status at different time perhaps, or several times a day, so in that world counter the yesterday's data seems more accurate to situation at hand than the today's data since it might not be final at the time you check it.
or maybe the data is mixed up with other respiratory related deaths
Title: Re: Corona virus...where do you live and how have your life changed
Post by: Byakko on April 08, 2020, 08:00:39 PM
From what I understand now, there are some elderly care centers that weren't reporting correct numbers before, and some of them are playing catch-up in recent days, that's why the official reports we're getting are saying "total number of deaths in elderly care centers" next to the daily report for hospitals, which is why it looks weird and they avoid saying "X people have died from it today". So yeah, it's an addition and we really are over 10k, but  it's not all from these last few days. Bottom line is, it does look like it's slowing down for us.
That's why there's an upset going on about these elderly care centers, it's basically saying they weren't paying attention and just leaving old people to spread it unckecked and die in their care and we're noticing it only now. (total toll yesterday was somewhere around / under 4000 in elderly care and 7000 in hospitals, that looks really bad for these centers and that messes up our daily curve)

Things are a little better at my store here in Colorado Springs, CO. I've stayed safe myself, however some more employees have contracted. They're taking some preventative measures though. They've installed plexiglass at all check out lanes, placed 6 ft social distancing markers on the floor, hired scabs too disinfect everything, passed out masks and extra gloves, hand sanitizer and gave us a bonus + 4 weeks of an extrs 2 bucks an hour hazard pay. Huge improvement from thr first few scary weeks.

My state is doing ok, only around a hundred cases; half of them in a single city; a trucker went to that city's government hospital with corona virus syntoms, and instead of isolating him, they kept him in the emergency ward. So it spread up to killing that hospitals director.

today I was paranoid enough to finally buy a respirator with cartridge, so far I ve been wearing homemade cotton fabrics mask I can't breathe well in it, after minutes of wearing it becomes wet from my own respiratory and so get heavier to breathe with and fogs my glasses, also I was spraying ants while in cotton mask and I can smell the pesticide so aerosol droplets pass through it,

also because tested positive local cases in my city jumps from previously 4 to19 ( thats only ones that are tested) our country is still one of the least tested population so all the figures really sketchy and doesn't represent the real situation in my opinion, and also by realization how people here in my city despite road access being still closed here and there, are back on the road and gathers in public places like restaurants are back in business probably feeling bored by social distancing.

industrial style respirator is still reasonably cheap compared to disposable medical style n95 probably people don't want to look too weird in it, in proportion those disposable n95 ones are so popular they are priced 10x over their normal price and only 1/3 the price of industrial respirator with replaceable cannisters/ cartridge that surely will outperform them and a lot cheaper in the long run. I will just wear the cotton mask over the respirator to make it look more civil.

So far, the COVID-19 cases have risen up to 37 here in Erie (out of the 18,000+ cases in the entire state of Pennsylvania). As I've said before, while I am angry at how slow the Trump Administration is handling the pandemic (relative to its sheer amount of resources that would allowed it to prepare for the disease better than most nations, but squandered the opportunity) and how the Christian Fundamentalists here are attempting to exacerbate the problem further, you still have to consider that the United States is a very large country that would take up dozens of European countries in landmass. You also have to factor that each state here operates on some very different cultural standards that almost makes each one feel like a different nation on their own. So, I can't really generalize my country's citizens due to that and why I'm mostly blaming the political factions instead.

With that said, I feel a little more secure than most because Erie is not the most popular tourist destination and the local authorities here took this all very seriously the moment that even one case got reported here.

Hey all. Haven't been on here for a couple years, been busy with life and stuff.

I'm in a pretty good place regarding COVID-19, have been working remotely for a couple of weeks now. Not being able to get together with my family for Easter is a bummer. One of my elderly relatives died, maybe of COVID-19, maybe of some other lung-related virus, a week ago, but she was nearing the end of her life anyway. The rest of my family is fine.

Hope everyone here is surviving. I was just passing through, digging something up from one of my old posts, I'm probably not sticking around. It just felt weird to log in after years without posting somewhere, so it might as well be here.

Looks like it, bcause while the tournament has been confirmed, it airing in a national tv channel is still nto sure, as for now, it's only been confirmed to air in the national tv channel's social media/webpage.

hope you are safe [E] seems mexico have plenty of new cases last few weeks, new cases in my country indonesia is slowing a bit, but in my city area is getting real, vegetable sellers infected, so while before it only reach people who travel abroad, or extremist who insist on doing religious gathering, university students, etc.  now it gets into everyday people, death toll is still the highest here in southest asia, we are in the poorest recovery rate with 8% mortality rate so far way a lot lower than comparable countries like malaysia, vietnam, thailand, and philipines.

so now every thursday I have a responsibility to help guard the neighborhood entrance for 2 hours 6-8PM, not so bad, but perhaps we have to stop and check many food delivery couriers since it is dinner time.

Anyone who has spoken to me on Discord and/or has followed my Twitter probably already knows this, but seeing as I didn't mention it here yet, I might as well; I tested positive for the coronavirus during the last week of March and was pretty much bedridden for almost 3 weeks.

The last two weeks weren't that bad, but the first week was hell; constantly fluctuating fever, chills, loss of appetite, elevated blood pressure, dizziness & nonstop coughing fits from doing things as simple as standing up, and night sweats that left me dehydrated; due to the latter I had to constantly drink fluids, but because of the loss of appetite I had to drink Gatorade just to replenish whatever nutrients were lost. Once the fever broke and stayed that way for a few days, things started getting better for me for the next 2 weeks, but the cough & shortness of breath mostly remained.

Fortunately I'm back on my feet and things are much better now, but I figured people here would be interested to hear a first-hand account from someone who had it.

I tested positive last week.  Probably had it close to a week before that.  Because of how crappy the weather has been, it was a complete shock.  It's only as I'm coming off of it that I've had any symptoms that I'd call distinct from the normal junk you get when the weather decides to nose dive in the middle of April.  Honestly, the weakest flu-like illness I've ever experienced.  Started with generic sniffles and the very occasional cough.  Had some sensation of pneumonia for a few days.  Now the back of my mouth feels dry.  No headaches.  No fever.  Didn't even trigger my arthritis.  I've basically been using nothing but cough drops and effervescent drinks to make my already mild symptoms slightly less annoying.  It's a bunch of whatever.  Nothing to write home about, but I get plenty of opportunity to stay there... --;

As for life around me?  I dunno.  I hear plenty of traffic out here in the middle of nowhere, so it must not be too boring out there.  Despite being essential, my work place took a couple weeks off and I'm not allowed back for another 4 days after they start up.  Lame.

glad you passed it, do you have another family member also affected by the illness? how did you get it?
damn I hope I never get infected, living with only my cat pet, if I get to be sent to hospital my cat would be starved for sure, yesterday I saw a long haired cat looked dirty and matted in front of a restaurant parking lot, I think the owner set it free when they are sent to hospital or the owner died  :'(

how did you get it?

My best guess was that I must have contracted it from taking public transportation into the NYC area. No way to know for sure though.

just asking , did you felt like you were fine in the morning then felt sick again couple hours later? like your fever goes on and off.

Not initially, but later on it started to feel like that. Usually if there was any kind of vertical movement involved (ie: standing up, going up/down stairs, etc), that's when I felt at my worst.

glad you passed it, do you have another family member also affected by the illness?

Fortunately, no.

Good to know you're feeling better. :)

I'm highly certain that's how it happened. NYC alone makes up almost 20% of all cases in America, you have to be ultra careful up there. Or any place nearby (Nassau, Long Island, Jersey City, etc).

I know its a cliche at this point but I have reiterate it...
1) refrain as much as possible from touching your face or eyes while out in public. touching one's face is a subconscious habit to most people so a more effective solution is to:
2) keep a small disinfectant bottle with you at all times and use it after handling utilities in public.
3) wear face masks and gloves to minimize the spread to others.
stay safe guys. feel free to edit those instructions in the OP.

just finished my first weekly guard duty, 2 hours manning the neighborhood gate, it was busy with food deliveries, its a bit ridiculous, rather than we stop take temperature, lift the portal close it lift it again on the way back since it was dinner time it got quite busy,  it is much easier and less exposure if the resident who order it would come down to the security post to take their food.

I wear respirator, not talking to anybody just standing there for 2 hours lifting and pulling down the blockade bar, I let the security guard to talk and check the temp of the visitors, the other guy I got paired with was a lazy ass youngster, he was just sitting there with his mask down his chin, and there was another busy body older guy who like to hangaround & chat, and brag about his knowabout local theft circles in the neighborhood, there is always bragging guy like that in every neighborhood, he was not supposed to be in the security post but he came and hang around of course not wearing mask, smoke and cough, and spit, I hate such people.

Trump is on a roll during this pandemic, lets see what he's up to:

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/g6lvi3/obama_still_no_coherent_national_coronavirus_plan/foapyuv/
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/05/therell-be-more-death-trump-says-urging-economic-reopening/
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/05/whistleblower-complaint-how-denial-cronyism-steered-trump-pandemic-response/

He's creating a monopoly on medical supplies and masks, he's ordering the FBI to seize any shipment of masks that didn't come from the companies that he supports.
He's also speed-running the reopening of the country, ignoring that the US has the highest infection and death rate and non nonchalantly saying "that there will be more death" as if that's okay.
He ignored early warnings from Rick Bright, a immunology expert who has been the head of BARDA for 4 year. Instead, he's trying to fund untested medicines that was developed by his friend. and when he's not doing that, he's encouraging the use of chloroquine for treatment, which was shown to be ineffective in treating the virus. Why is he doing that? for the sole reason of scoring a short-term political victory for his administration. Again. dismissing the fact that the US have the highest infection and death rate.

trump has no power to begin with , he is just doing what he is told to do.

i'm surprised how the USA had responded on the outbreak and most 1st world countries,  i'm surprised my country is doing better than i expected , i've always thought when shit goes down we will result to looting and stealing and pointing fingers. turns out we could work together and respect the hierarchy of authority and the authorities especially local government officials doing their job and maintaining order without abusing their authority.
but still some media groups still create scandals over situations that are easily understandable why it came to be and tries to stir conflict between the masses and government officials that aren't aligned to their agendas.

as of today our district is doing fine and we're in the final days of lockdown and will move to a looser quarantine rules.

About Trump, I remember few weeks ago our (dumbass) president Piñera was happy saying that Trump contragulated him for the pandemic managing, when here now our levels of contagion are just like Europe and Brasil. Last night FINALLY the whole Santiago district was declared with quarentine, after 2 months of waiting... and that's because we got almost the 40.000 "confirmed" (and I say that since this govenment is expert to modify numbers as seen in other things like the 2019 October protests)

I don't know what to think about that SOAB we have for president, as well other left-wing presidents that suck ass with this matter, as Bolsonaro in Brazil and Trump in USA...

In other news, I've been self-reclused almost since the coronavirus started and rarely I got out to shop some vital stuff like food issues (like twice times the week). But some friends don't have the same luck and they'd to go to work anyway, two of them I'm more worried: one works for fedEx and the other in construction, and about the latter he got 2 infected coworkers and he started to going sick since wednesday, in my friends circle we're all worry about him since we think he could have COVID, and he thinks the same. I hope he got the examination soon to confirm (or deconfirm, I hope so)

starting today in my town or the whole city district area the self distancing and regulation goes up a notch higher, all mall are closed, except for supermarket which only open until 9, citizen can not be on the street after 9, neighborhood gate are still closed with centralized entrance and monitored with temp detector, sanitizer and stuff, not much day to day control I don't know how well it would be followed but that's the rule

incoming muslim holiday is next week, what I hear they didn't cancel the mass gathering for praying etc. so far what I see mosque are still in full operation  the guy who make me leather jacket go to mosque every single day so I wear mask, and sanitize my hands whenever I visit there to try on the jacket in progress, churches and other religion worship places are closed we do online video,

since muslim is 90+ % of the population here, and lets say half of 90% are males and lets say half of the males go to mosque everyday 27% of the population congregate daily to worship I dunno how effective it would be, sure they should have temp gun and quick test or whatever who will follow that procedure in real world operation the building doesn't even have a door people are just rushing in from all directions, everyday at noon and twilight,
the right to worship and practicing own religion is protected by law, and government cant really force to close any acknowledged religious places of worship like mosque, temple or church, however most minor religions are self closing their operation to support the cause by doing online, apparently the single major religion don't follow the same idea.

so I guess new cases peak is still yet to come here in my country indonesia

today I went out to go buy some brown sugar and snacks on specialty shop their parking was full, and so I parked a bit far, and peek the shop was stuffed with people, so I walked back to my car, but decided police station is close enough I would walk there to collect my paper of the car that should have been collected on february but corona was on the headline then and so I postponed till now, the office was closed too... so annoying, nothing went right, so I drove home, along the way I realized today business were all open, beauty clinique, hair salon, cafe, and all well attended, and what a busy traffic too, if not for the mask I would have thought I entered a different dimension where virus pandemic doesn't happen.

seems like our government is set on New Normal since the word is a current trending hype despite our condition here is still dubious, since the test is way too few to give real figure of the status, I don't know what makes them so confident, I live in small city, and the province capital nearby just had their highest peak of daily new case few days ago as 80% of the subjects tested showed positive, if the transportation between cities are all set to open, then I imagine our cases will rise too, maybe they just don't care anymore about local condition, since most other countries are starting up the we just do the same, decide economic pressure and popularity in the eyes of public as higher priority.

Yeah good for them, the chances of having undocumented cases after all that time is very slim.
Italy has actually reopened and is receiving tourist! New York (the most effected state of USA) is about to be reopened aswell.

I have no idea how can they think this is a good idea. In my country we've reopened (we have very few cases) but the heath minister warned that lockdown will come back if the daily cases rise above 10, which judging by the last guy who got infected a day ago while grocery shopping, is very likely to happen.

Out where I live, the state has introduced a phased reopening plan in which the counties (there's 39 in all here) would keep an eye on key stats to lead the way forward.

Currently, there's only seven counties in the 3rd phase. This allows for libraries, museums and movie theaters to reopen; restaurants go from 50% capacity to 75%; bar areas are allowed to open at 25% capacity; sporting events can be held and people can now have gatherings of up to 50 people.

Most counties (including where I live, Cowlitz) are in the 2nd phase. This allows restaurants, hair salons, retail stores, and pet groomers to reopen; It also includes being able to have a gathering of up to 5 people.

There are a few counties (the hardest hit ones like King, where Seattle is) are in a 'modified' 1st phase (AKA Phase 1.5). This allows for some places to open.

#stay at home
is over, there is a big chunk of population who really depend on day to day wage to get by.
sadly during the #stay at home period our official was too relax to monitor and people didn't have awareness or too stubborn to follow, so we are still on the climb, currently number one in south east asia, so not too good.

i'm contemplating to go back home if 2nd wave comes. heard china and indonesia aren't doing so well right  now and if ever the 2nd wave do happen i'll have to close our shop again might as well be in our home island it's much safer there since it ain't crowded.

we've got lower death rate than we expected.  we were expecting numbers in the ten thousand but as of now we  have 1k deaths most of them are from the capital region where most populated area and a lot of the cases are asymptomatic. the southern islands are fairly safe most of them have strict border patrols , piers and local airports are all on red alert.

we don't have food shortages but we do have problems in logistics causing price hike. seems like this'll go on probably til 1st or 2nd quarter next year.

only lately we have more rapid tests available, so I bet a huge number of infected people never get tested as long as their symptoms is mild, I have day maid coming twice a week to cook for me, she has been coughing since last month, I never get in the same room with her when she comes, more likely I lock myself in my room half day until she's gone, I yell thanks from my room and left the payment on the table  :sweatdrop:, the food goes straight to fridge, I only eat them the next day after I reheat them in microwave oven.

Well, I am currently in Germany and the situation is kinda lame over here.
Most people do have home-office and you can´t really do some fun activites like out with friends and do some party, as we used to do in the past.

However, now it seems that the situation is pretty stable and everything should get back to normal if the cases don´t start rising again.

But, it seems that the situation is far better than in some other parts of the world, like USA, India, Brazil etc.

Things have exploded out here with over 400 cases of COVID-19 in the county and 5 deaths. The latest death is scary since the person had no underlying health conditions where it could amplify the effect. The other 4 deaths were all people who had underlying health conditions.

So, as of now, the county is still in Phase 2 of the 'Safe Start' plan and will be for the future as the governor put an indefinite pause on any movement from one phase to the next one.

government and who seems like giving up on preventing covid ... it sucks but i understand why ... commerce needs to flow back and a lot of livelihoods are getting affected they are more concerned on keeping the death rate low.

school will start in august but a lot of people are skeptical about it but the department of education doesn't want to open but the department of health insist they should. note that the head of department of health has affiliations with top private schools in the country and probably getting some pocket money from them.

Lost my Dad 2 weeks ago today due to COVID related pneumonia. He was 64 years old.

Take care guys, this shit is no joke.

Walt, I'm so sorry to hear that. It seems so easy to put this virus out of your mind until it directly comes knocking, I just found out my little cousin got it.

And you know whats fucked up it? having to bury a loved one in a pandemic, where any sort of gathering is a possible transmission. You can't grieve while you're scared that some idiot might try to hug you and shit.
We had to call people to tell them NOT to come, as we're not making a funeral for our grandmother. And what do you know... some people came and got infected, because turns out one of our cousins was asymptomatic and gave it to her and to a bunch of other people.

I'm a shut-in, so stuff hasn't really  changed, but there's stuff that needs to be said.

Bill Gates, the guy behind the covid vaccines, has in the past, paralyzed thousands of kids on India and Africa through Polio vaccines:

Goverments throughtout the World are starting to state, that if one does not take the vaccine, he will lose his rights as a citizen. Does that make sense? Our rights are being taken, as they talk openly about a Great Reset and a New World Order...and we are just...going to accept?

Last year I took a posgraduate course on epidemiology. It was useful. I could forecast some stuff, educate some people, gave an interview for a local radio about herd immunity, and the psychological effect of the virus. I feared for my 94 year old grandma in the covid-ravaged capital of Buenos Aires, so I fiercely defended the quarantine measures in my small town and online. As a union leader, I strongly opposed any gatherings of marches and proposed safer, online activities instead.

I also knew a bunch of denialists and anti vaxxers would start spewing ignorance, as a parallel pandemic of Dunning-Kruger. Sadly, a huge portion of the private media here sided with those. When I wondered about why would anyone fund those nutcases, or why Trump and Bolsonaro would take such a stance, I got these answers:
https://www.ft.com/content/e47090e0-282f-4cfa-a82f-f3b2d4223072
https://www.ft.com/content/62358c60-f3f4-4961-a33f-76ab4ef91350

It's just cheaper for the super rich to let old people die.

Then, my grandma got covid and died. I loved her with all my heart, we were very close. My family got her ashes in a box.

I'm not even angry any more. I'm just sad... But mobilized.

We need healthcare reform, and we need to remove anti-science speech from places of power. And we need to change our mindsets: if you have to get a license to drive, you can't get to have an 'independent' opinion on collective health issues without proper training and supervision.

EDIT: I've just read more of the thread, mis condolencias y un abrazo a Walt.

My condolences Walt, I'm sorry to hear that.

This year in particular has really highlighted some of the worst elements of US culture for me (I'm sure this is not a unique phenomenon, but what I'm seeing is so 'American' it hurts)
Convenience is the most important thing in life. Orders of magnitude more important than the safety and well being of others.
The average US citizen lacks the empathy or self control to care anymore and people are dying and will continue to die because of it.
The people I see 'protesting' or making a stink about this situation are, for the most part, not doing so because of the fiscal implications (undeniably a serious issue) but rather because they're being inconvenienced. They're Americans and they are not about to let anyone tell them what they can or can't do. They're going to do exactly what they want, when they want, and if people die because of their actions, that's just fine (until it's one of their own)
If, god forbid, some even worse catastrophe were to affect this country, don't expect the US to make it. It is united in name only.

You think it's normal that the local govenments would shut stores up, bankrupt their owners, leave their hundreds to thousands of employees unemployed only to sell them to chinese competitors (that were exempt of closing)?

You think it's reasonable to shut both healthy and sick people home to combat a...respiratory disease?

Sure, that's all they are. It's not like they have data and videos (sometimes more than one, and that you both outright ignored) that you can use to crosscheck elsewhere.

Its sad to see so many people stsill stuck  in the mentality that its all a lie and they are the ones that are enlightened.
Dude, I'm not saying the disease does not exist or that I know more than either of you.

I know for a fact that everyone in this thread has more life experience than me (since, y'know, I'm a shut in). Which is something I envy, because I haven't learned anything in these past 10 years. I haven't worked, I haven't had friends, or seen my old ones. I haven't even tried to code anything in mugen. I know my end is grimm. And in knowing that, I am angry and scared, because I know it's my fault.

ALL I'm trying to say is: maybe, just maybe, certain things that governments are doing (in this case, the tackling of the desease), are not being done with our well-being in mind, but with the interests of certain strange bodies, that are against our democracy.

For instance: The original lockdown would only last 15 days. I't now passing 10 months. The Countries with the most severe lockdowns are also the ones with the most infections AND deaths. The Countries that are testing the new vaccines are curiously, the ones with the new strains of the disease. This is not going to be over.

For instance: The original lockdown would only last 15 days. I't now passing 10 months. The Countries with the most severe lockdowns are also the ones with the most infections AND deaths.
The opposite. The countries with the most severe lockdowns are the ones that are now free of it. New Zealand and such. Those countries did a proper lockdown, and it did go away very fast (South Korea, Japan already had a culture of wearing a mask when you're sick...). Those that did a half-assed lockdown fucked it up and it was useless, that's why you still need more of it.
In France, we did a solid lockdown and it went well (well, we did it late, so it started bad, but it got better after the lockdown), then we loosened the lockdown, and now because we loosened it, we're in trouble again, and we're about to expand the new current lockdown again. It's not too bad because this time we monitored it a bit better so we're not in danger right now, but we're cutting it very close, we're playing on and off with the lockdown because people demand their Christmas, and we now that it can get much worse if we do nothing.
Germany did better faster, but now there are more people that don't believe the virus was a problem (it's not a problem BECAUSE they did the lockdown and it went away) so those people are getting mad at the lockdown that's coming again.
It's literally the exact opposite of what you claim, and it's crazy that you're making up such an obvious lie so easy to check up. The countries that didn't do jack shit or did the least they possibly could are the ones in trouble. Sweden tried to let it run around aiming for "herd immunity", and they announced like a month ago "we fucked up, herd immunity doesn't work, now we're in deep shit, god save us all". They literally had to make an official statement from the government to say exactly how shit of an idea that was.

The Countries that are testing the new vaccines are curiously, the ones with the new strains of the disease. This is not going to be over.
Also the opposite of the truth. The countries that have a vaccine are talking about the new strain, but that doesn't mean you don't already have it.
We're pretty sure that most other countries do have it already, but idiots like you think that if you don't test for it, then it doesn't exist, just because you don't see it. But we all know it's already there. We discovered it BECAUSE we tested for it.

You think it's reasonable to shut both healthy and sick people home to combat a...respiratory disease?
Yes, because that's how it works. It's insane that you don't. You guys are a death cult.
"Just a respiratory disease" ? In case you don't understand, you actually need your respiratory organs to live.

You think it's normal that the local govenments would shut stores up, bankrupt their owners, leave their hundreds to thousands of employees unemployed only to sell them to chinese competitors (that were exempt of closing)?
No, no one has ever said that was a good thing. What people say you're supposed to do goes well beyond that. What you describe is what an incompetent government in denial does. Everyone else that does it properly already has an entire system that existed long before this virus. We're still alive because we've had this system for a long time. This doesn't even have anything to do with the virus, it's literally basic human decency.

So I found out today upstate NY confirmed their first case of the UK Strain of Covid-19. It's pretty alarming cuz it has been spreading like wildfire quickly. I've been practicing social distancing and wearing face coverings (even though I'm already sick of doing both) and washing my hands often. Almost a year already and I'm still desperate to getting back to my usual routine pre-pandemic. Also, Walt, terribly sorry for your loss.

This virus isn't even a joke. It has infected every part of the damn globe. No one is safe from the virus. The saddest truth: More than 50% of people across the world (just my estimated guess) disregard the seriousness of the virus. Even the perfectly healthy could catch and succumb to the virus in a matter of days. Stay safe everyone and hopefully we will beat this.

^This. They are so ingrained in their belief that they are so much smarter because they know the truth. Ignorance is bliss as they always say. So many of these people complain about wearing a mask but don't have a problem wearing clothes. The government says to wear clothes and they listen, but the second they say to wear a mask to protect others, they will go on about how their rights are being infringed upon. Its hypocrisy at its finest.

Happy new year, folks.
but idiots like you think that if you don't test for it
Funny how one needs to have a test to know if he has a disease. One would think having symptoms would be enough. BTW, the test has shown to have a 97% failure rate. Meaning, people with the disease are testing negative, and people without are testing positive. Even papayas have tested positive.

Quote
that's how it works. It's insane that you don't.
My point being, that healthy people are being locked with sick people specifically to get sick. While sick people are being denied medicine (hidroxicloroquine, Azithromycin and zinc, as shown by the number of pacients cured by dr Didier Raoult and Dr Zev Zelenko--which was banned from twitter recently) specifically to add to the statistics. Also, sunlight is the main factor for a strong immune system, and one is not going to get it if he is locked home.

On the subject of statistics, I don't know how things work on your country, but on mine, whenever a covid death is written down, the prefecture where it happened receives R$19000. Meaning, all deaths from hit-and-run to cancer went down...and the covid ones went up. How curious.

You guys are a death cult

In the same way he used her to enforce the lockdown narrative?

Lockdowns are not about public health. They are about power. On my country, there were cases where seniors were arrested for daring to take a walk in the park without the mask. But when a great number of confessed marxists group up to protest about something? The media says, "there was no rist of infection there".

...everywhere else, churches get closed, but not casinos. Huh.

my country
Hm. I'm sorry I let you down.

Yeah, it's pretty clear.
*Smooch*

disregard the seriousness of the virus. Even the perfectly healthy could catch and succumb to the virus in a matter of days.
I'm not disputing that.

The government says to wear clothes and they listen, but the second they say to wear a mask to protect others, they will go on about how their rights are being infringed upon.
Interesting comparison...to say the least. But ok.
The virus in smaller than the masks holes. Initially, the WHO even said using them was benefical for the mind, only.
The only thing the masks are holding are, your saliva, co2, the bacterias from the mouth, the heat where they grow. Now picture breathing that for three, four hours. You are going to pass out.

Funny how your first two sentences imply that if you have no symptom then you're fine, but two sentences after that, you imply you can still have the disease while testing negative but symptoms aren't an issue.
Also, you are several months late. Tests are better and there's more than one.

My point being, that healthy people are being locked with sick people specifically to get sick.
No. No one is locking anyone with anyone. Are you pretending that you never heard anyone tell you to social distance ? What do you even think that means if not "stay the fuck away from each other" ?
Also, sunlight is the main factor for a strong immune system, and one is not going to get it if he is locked home.
lol did you get a medical degree in a dumpster ?

I want to live, it's why I won't take the vaccine. If you knew all vaccines have mercury, lead, , aluminium, mrc-5 and monkey kidney, you wouldn't want to take them either.
Do you not understand that vaccines have been around for hundreds of years ? And yet no one has ever died from any of that.
You have zero idea what any of that is, what it does, and where else you can find any of that. also monkey kidney lol way to show where you get your info from.
I'll just throw that and move on : https://www.publichealth.org/public-awareness/understanding-vaccines/goes-vaccine/

But when a great number of confessed marxists group up to protest about something? The media says, "there was no rist of infection there".
This has never happened. You have never seen anyone on a non-far right media with a proper scientific background say that about a protest in a country that listens to science.

The only thing the masks are holding are, your saliva, co2, the bacterias from the mouth, the heat where they grow. Now picture breathing that for three, four hours. You are going to pass out.
No, you don't. People have run entire marathons with multiple masks on top of each other to show you that if you claim that, you're a pussy and a liar who has never put on a mask. Surgeons put masks for highly stressful surgery that last more than 24 hours and they're fine. People with asthma can wear a mask and be fine.
You have never worn a mask and passed out from it. You have never seen anyone wear a mask and pass out from it.

In a lot of your points, you are mixing together things that your own government does and what science says. You end up straight up lying about scientific information (like the size of the holes in your mask, you have no idea what a surgical mask is).
If you live in a shitty dictatorship, I'm sorry for you, but that doesn't make it alright for you to reject actual science and claim it's all a conspiracy.

ffs your president thinks the vaccine turns you into a crocodile. Wear a mask, practice social distance, wash your hands, and sit this out.

Still business as usual where I'm at. I'm in a small sized city.
I'm sorry for everyone who lost someone or had them fall ill.

There's no way country can mass control this thing. Contrary to some of the dum-dums out there, there are countries who've done it right and still can't contain the spread. I don't agree with lockdowns, causes people to lose their job or business (making money is kinda important) over something that has no effective workaround, outside of protecting yourself and others. The problem is too many selfish and inconsiderate people, who are ignorantly anti-science. No cure for stupidity, so can't be helped sadly.

Bunch of countries in the green and orange. Countries in the red have NOT done it right. Some of those did more or less okay at first and then got a little loose (Germany is going up lately, and it looks like something's going on in Ireland), some did it wrong at first and then started to catch up but are still not doing too well, etc.

Well, looks like we're back under full lockdown where I'm at. Cases have absolutely skyrocketed. The situation in much of the US, as far as spread, is almost twice as bad as it was at any point last year. Despite this, I'd imagine we'll see even less people follow lockdown protocol than did in spring of 2020.

I'm in the UK, London to be precise and as most of the world knows... it's a bit of a shitshow. For a year I've shielded, been furloughed, gone back to work, had my work push through a huge (permanent!) paycut for staff because of how aviation is fucked at the moment, yet the CEO etc still have the same wages.

I miss friends and being able to teach my community fitness classes, but I stay at home, socially distance if I have to go out/go to work, wear a mask etc and remain vigilant. I know of quite a few that have passed from it, some who were perfectly healthy struck down to a shell of themselves with it. But still there's a large about of people who won't follow guidelines thinking it's "Just a hassle/a government ruse".

Myself and my husband are vulnerable, so we're not taking any risks.

Sorry to hear people here have lost loved ones or been affected. Hopefully the World will slowly recuperate...

I've been living a recluse life the whole year last year, I literally sit in my house 7 days a week, minus few minutes spent on grocery shopping.
I talk more to my pet cat than actual human being, I didn't visit my mom's family they have 5 6 people living in the household, pretty active, so I didn't go there not to spread or receive any potential extra risk, cant afford to get traced and forced to live in corona facility then who would take care of my pet.

my country is faring rather fine for a 3rd world place with ongoing 1st wave, and from what I see people still doing their normal daily activities as if nothing happen, wearing mask on their chin and chat and eat, people still have construction projects going with construction job labors working together without mask and chain smoking the whole day.

supermarket, and mall is where mask policy is strict and a relatively safe place to be, while traditional market, eating places, are way less regulated, street vendor still sell their food while smoking cigarette maskless, receving money, and preparing food without desinfecting their hands, I take a risk sometime when I really want to buy traditional food from street hawkers like deepfried cassavas, and such just to put some color into my drab boring days.  take tolls on creativity, I spend more time to finish a page just out of inspiration and motivation.

How long did you have symptoms? Are there any lingering side effects?

NZ has almost completely normalised. Quarantine at the border catches most of it. Some slips through but we're pretty dispersed so the slips are not super serious although we'd prefer there were none.

Right now the biggest issue is the annoyance at people riding the govt. They come in 2 flavours of stupid. Open the borders we need tourism money and close the borders to stop all the slips

Make up your stupid minds. Govt is doing the best possible with human stupidity in the way at every turn.

Lost my Dad 2 weeks ago today due to COVID related pneumonia. He was 64 years old.

Take care guys, this shit is no joke.

Sorry to hear that. You have my sincerest condolences because I know what that's like. My father is almost 90 and had it. Thankfully he survived, but the thought of the alternative happening makes me more-than-enough understand your loss.

don't get too paranoid man. your mental state could worsen the disease if you happen to catch it.
take your vitamin d and c, wear a mask, and stay away from people. if you do catch the virus, then it happened in spite of your precautions and its not your fault.
two people i live with caught the virus, guess what? i didn't catch it from them because i took the safety precautions.
living in fear is worse than catching a disease my man.

My dad told me this. It's true that fear is the worse has ever come to the humanity. Vitamins are the best and I use garlic pil everyday. My uncle has been better everyday and all he needs is to eat like fruits and vegetables. Plus the masks I wear is only for public malls and other stores that has been open.

I live alone my lung is healthy  it's not survivability I'm afraid off, but if I get infected and traced and sent to quarantine facility, then my cat would be starving. if I caught it better be not traced and just weather it at home that's why I cut my social contact so when they who are more mobile than me got infected then I'm not in their networking suspects to be traced and potentially sent to these camps, thing is extended family like my mum's family and my aunt's is all oldies so I don't visit them, or very rarely over the year. already take vit A,C,E,D, omega3, wearing mask, avoiding dining out, but still, I have weekly maid coming to help me clean the house and garden.

you mean vaccines? depends where did you guys got them?

heard AZD12222 and sinovac have poor performance, they barely got above 50% success rate. that's basically just gambling a person's health. for us we're still waiting for the J&j or sputnik v vaccine results and gov't would decide whether to use the vaccines we have now for the masses or wait for a better one.

we won't get the phizer's vaccine since they'll prioritize europe first. and china has been bugging the current gov't to use their sinovac but no hospitals are willing to be the guinea pig most well known public hospitals are waiting for department of health's and department of food and drugs for approval still despite that nobody wants anything to do with china except for the national government.

edit: to clarify it's not because of china it's because of budget , most hospitals are on a tight budget right now and it would be a waste of time and money to set it all up just for the vaccines' effect to be sub par.
