Title: Auction alert
Post by: Sepp on August 27, 2007, 01:16:44 AM
Post about it here when people try to sell MUGEN.

You can also post "templates" to use in such cases.

@Seller

I am [xxx] and this is not a question.

You are selling Elecbyte's free M.U.G.E.N 2d fighting game engine, with characters fan-made by countless people. Among these are Phantom of the Server, warusaki3, Byakko, Splode, Sander, Reu, FlowaGirl, Big Eli King, Deuce, Sunboy and Tenshin, to name just a few. You are illegally making profit from Elecbyte's and all these other persons' free work without their permission and against the license agreement. You should be ashamed. Et cetera.

I know or have been in contact with all of the aforementioned M.U.G.E.N fans. Elecbyte may no longer be around to sue you. But--as you must know, what with downloading our stuff and all--remnants of a M.U.G.E.N community still exist.

And you have just made yourself a few thousand enemies.

Do not carry on selling the M.U.G.E.N engine.

@Bidder

Hi.

You have been bidding on an article named Marvel Vs Streetfighter DVD Capcom for PC.

My name is [xxx] and you do not know me, but I feel obliged to inform you that this auction by [yyy] is an illegal attempt to rip unsuspecting bidders off. The auction is not about a Capcom game. It is Elecbyte's free 2d fighting engine, name of M.U.G.E.N.

The version you have been bidding on is filled exclusively with characters and stages fan-made by other people, in their free time, for no profit. (The article includes several characters from http://www.mugenguild.com/~pots/ and [link to Byakko's page which no longer exists!] and a hundred other pages.)

Mugen has a long history of people using things released on the web and making a quick buck off of them.

Its so sad to see free creations being sold on auction sites for $ but $ makes the world go round and come people make a dishonest living...

Now that I took another look at them, just think you could've put more emphasis on how Mugen and its content are free.

yeah, but here it's actually worth trying to stop them, unlike "omg that guy sent my char to some other guy! how could he!" :P

I wouldn't say "no one can stop them", people won't buy those things if you tell them it's free.

I wouldn't be too sure. I'm pretty sure there are people out there who know what Mugen is, and would pay for a bunch of characters if they were hard to find/offline/privates.

Wait....um....not only is this free and those people are stupid for buying it, but, they're also committing an illegal act by doing so....Mugen is only legal because it's being used freely....though, people still rip music to CDs and such,  ;P

But yeah....lame....

People have sold MUGEN for money in the past (calling it MvC3 or something similar).

And auctions have been successfully stopped in the past.

That's what this topic should be for. Of course you wouldn't fall for it. ^_^

Quote
All you have to do is install Winmugen onto your computer from this cd.
Use your keyboard or a xbox 360 controller.
Now your ready for the coolest 2-d fighter ever!!!

............................FREE SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!..........................................

This is a freeware program.....BUT it would take you quiet a while to find them.

At least this "seller" says it is all free too bad their english skills are lacking...

SUGGESTION

Would it be possible to float the posted auction links to the top so that we do not have to go digging through pages of commentary (which will happen unless you dump every post that is not an auction/template)?  That way if someone is feeling righteous they can just hit up all of the "sellers" one by one and then post something along the lines of "I just sent a message to so and so in reference to such and such auction [insert link]" so that we know that the "seller" was informed and action was taken.  Then, if the "seller" writes back to that person they can quote their original post as a follow up so that we will know if further action will be needed such as informing ebay or reporting it as cp or whatever.

Hope that was clear.

/SUGGESTION

I.E. anything created by Capcom, SNk stuff etc belong to they're respective company.

If original characters are being used.

Such as Dragon Claw for example.

Reu can in all sitations sue said seller.

mugen is about the fact that it is freeware and the fact that we can create characters, etc and share them with eachother. When you sell it, it seems to take the spirit out of the game.

from your end you probably to give a crap, so i will ask you this!
How much did you get for it?

so this forum logs IP addresses which means we know who you are which means wouldn't this forum have to give up your information in case any legal action is taken against you?  You sort of confessed...if Capcom goes RIAA on your ass you might just be fucked.

Not saying it will happen it just is kinda stupid to admit to a crime in a place that can and probably will give out your info when asked by the authorities.

I know a lot of you guys will think badly of me, but I sell my DVD-R fill with Mugen stuff in it to people I know in real life. I even tell them that they can program their own Mugen and just download them from the internet if they want to, but since they don't know how and I'm just freaking lazy to teach them, I just say "Give me five bucks and I'll make a Mugen copy for you."   --;
I bet some of you guys did the same thing to some people you know in real life.  ;D

Edit: Oh yeah, I don't try to make a profit of the creator sprite and coding, but damn it, I will not go out of my way teaching for hours of how to program shit.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Super_Sloth on October 20, 2007, 02:26:41 PM
see, if you know the people and they know that its all free, thats fine, but if someone sells it to someone on the other side of the world and does not know them, and does not tell them that it is free, and especially try to profit of other's chars, then i have a problem.

in your case i have no problem. You're lucky to make a few extra bucks
Title: Re: Auction alert

in this case, it is like gaming magazines that pack demos, or sites that cover the distro costs for open source software. obviously, burning a dvd  has costs, like the cost of the burner, the electricity used and the time you have to spend burning it just to name a few things.

1. These characters are not his.

2. You can find better shit for free. So essentially anyone who actually BUYS this annoyance's "work" would ask for a refund or say it's a fraudulent charge on their card.

Either way it's a pathetic gesture. It literally is selling free stuff.

I wouldn't be upset at this to be honest.

I'd just make sure he goes through massive amounts of hell. >:)

But then again I'm vindictive.

I'd sell mugen too if I can find some idiots that can't use the internet properly.

Just type in download mugen in yahoo.coms search engine and you can get it for free. If he can find someone dumb enough to buy it, good for him.

That's the way things are these days.

No one cares what to research what they're buying.

It's my money and I want to make sure I'm knowing what I'm buying.

Same with Ebay, in stores or even buying a car of course.

I think that the deceased president kennedy would smile upon the fact that you actually make use of the consumer's rights that he helped established. People today don't bother doing research on what they are buying and as a result they get ripped off.

ACTUALLY . . . what can legally stop me for selling mugen to other people? I'll put it this way:
First of all, i had to buy a computer ($). I spent a lot of time (invaluable) surfing the internet ($) in search for mugen stuff. I even sometimes had to enter some japanese sites where the stuff is even harder to find (more time and $). Then i spend some more time by charging each one of those characters into the m.u.g.e.n. engine by typing around 30 digits per char. Same time for the stages. Then, i had to buy myself a cd/dvd burner (in case i don't have one), buy a cd or dvd and put all those bytes into it. Of course i also had to pay the electricity bill for using the computer.
After all that, i sell a guy MY WORK (basically time and effort) . . . not the free characters floating in the internet. Now tell me you can (in the hypothetic case i would want to sell mugen) legally stop me.
Title: Re: Auction alert

You would have to sell the engine too which is owned by elecbyte. That's where the problem would come in. If they where to open up the source code and you made everything yourself including sprites then you could do it.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: PotS on August 21, 2008, 02:01:11 PM
No matter how many excuses you find (I hope you're joking with that one), you'll always be making money out of not only a copyrighted engine like Shamrock said, but of characters and stuff copyrighted to the companies that make the fighting games. That's a crime, and although said companies won't prosecute everyone who does it odds are they would do so to someone who does it a lot.

Selling other persons work is morally wrong.
So is profitting from others effort.
And no, its not morally correct to profit from types of effort that anyone can have.
With that mentality you could scour off deviantart, make cds out of all the art there ( i had a lot of effort putting them into folders! and finding them! TIME AND MONEY!) and then sell them to random people.
Its still bullshitty, illegal, and immoral.

Hey I spent a lot of time in jap art sites, got a lot of artwork from there! I should get money from that!
No one forced you to use others work, dont act as if its something you need to get paid for doing.

All that's true ... But i was thinking in a situation like this (RL):
Guy: Hey c00p
Me: Sup
Guy: You've heard of that game called mugen?
Me: Well, it's not a GAME, but an engine. And yes, i've heard about it.
Guy: I supposed it, you're into fighting games and that stuff, right?
Me: Yeah, sorta.
Guy: It's true that you can download characters and put them inside it?
Me: Yes.
Guy:  :o. Listen, could you do me a favor? I want a game with characters from kof and last blade, my two favorite games ever. Can you mix them into that "moogen".
Me: ¬¬ . . . You can download the chars by yourself, and add them by yourself also. Not a scientific thing.
Guy: Yeah, i imagine that, but i'm lazy and i would have to learn how to do it. I just want to play.
Me: To play, you have to pay.
Guy: Haha, ok. How much?
Me: Gimme 20 bucks and a list of the characters you want, and in a day you'll have it.
Guy: Ok, deal
Me: (haha, sucker)

(See, i'm selling a SERVICE in that case)

No, it says - MUGEN is a "2d Fighting Game" Engine -; just that is not "ed. There's not another way of describing "street fighter style games"
- In the example, the guy is not a friend
- If this was real, i'd probably give the guy a fast tutorial on how/where download the chars he want, and how to add them
- In any case you'll be making money of others people work, that can't be helped
- My intention was to avoid the usage of the word "steal" (which is always used in these cases), and it looks like i made it. See, you didn't mention it or any other variant.

You cant avoid the FACT that to receive money for property that isnt yours, is still stealing, even if the person you are getting the money from gives it willing, they wouldnt give it unless you provided the material, if the material being provided is not supposed to be received money for and the person wont give you the money unless you give him the material... you are profiting from stealing, there are no nicer words around for that one.
You CAN help yourself not to make money out of others work, thats easily done, it CAN be helped.
Cooper, you cant golden that peculiar pill, stealing is stealing no matter how many what ifs you put besides it.

Fuck, i'm completely against selling mugen, don't get me wrong . The reason of this kind of posts is that i was talking to a friend of mine the other day (about to become a lawyer) . . . and for some reason this particular thing came up. So then he told me that maybe going with the excuse of "i'm selling a service, not mugen", and with the gigantic holes around software in my country . . . the guy could get out easy of that.
If you look at them closely, in my posts i wansn't talking 'bout morals or ethics . . . just the legal aspect of it. Anyway, if you guys consider these posts potencially dangerous for that kind of people that sells mugen (which probably lurks into this forum), please delete them.

I just think it's funny that people with no grounds to do anything about it resort to a kungfumanesk harassment tactic. It's pretty stupid to sell Mugen, but it's even stupider to buy it, yet it's the stupidest thing of all to go around wasting your time trying to fight it you're the RIAA.

Thanks for the chuckle Mugen police v2.0. A whole community based on piracy fighting piracy. There's nothing wrong with it persay, but it's ironic. I feel kinda trolly now, so I'll shut up. It's definately immoral, but it's also laughably unenforceable by said community. If you wanted to take these guys down you should get Capcom or someone that can do shit to do something about it.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Laxxe23 on August 26, 2008, 05:08:24 AM
actually mugen is legit, weve been given permission from the big namefighter makers to make mugen characters, which is considered fanart
and im pretty sure its illegal to sell someone elses fanart for your own profit
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Starwarznut on August 26, 2008, 05:11:44 AM
Well, the problem is that there doesn't seem to be anyone in a position to enforce it. The creator really couldn't, because they just made derivative art (well, except things like dragonclaw). And since it's a derivative art, then they don't really have any claim to the character.

I suppose they could claim the code, but they'd probably just get laughed at. I'd say if someone told Capcom someone was pirating their stuff it would be more productive.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Laxxe23 on August 26, 2008, 05:13:28 AM
been there done that on copywriting code, works really well
but anyways
capcom already aproved of mugen and doesnt consider it piracy
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Starwarznut on August 26, 2008, 05:17:00 AM
Oh yea, I know that. I mean that if someone wants to derail one of the auctions, they should get CAPCOM to do it.

Because if capcom's characters were in the mugen that was being sold, they could easily thrash it away. They have a lot more money than most mugen creators.

I know they gave the whole blanket fanart permission. The reason I say the community is mostly piracy based is because of the engine, but that's old beans and no one cares. I certainly don't; I appreciate the thing and the people who make stuff for it.

Ebays taken some down before I reported while shopping around for games.

There was one time they didn't take one down I reported. Not sure why as they usually sent me a message afterwards. It may not of gone threw.

Things have changed and allowing people to edit works without permission doesn't bother many these days, but taking the hardwork of coders and the characters of pattened companies isn't right just to rip some idiot who can't simply reasearch something before buying. Given like I said researching may help stop alot of the buying, but some may think it came from Japan or another country without all those copyright problems and being in CD format(as most do when selling MUGEN) buy it without a second thought.

Basicly alot of things go into this and it is hard to stop. I'd never go as far as threatening the seller over PM's. Works best just to report it. Give some examples why includeing a couple links and a couple hours later they may end up banned or whatever they do for that kinda thing.

Title: Re: Auction alert

I'm thinking real hard about this debate as to the immorality of selling off something that you know is not your own...that you put all this "time and effort" into putting all these characters together into a screenpack that you used a tutorial to learn how to do..... and selling it for profit.....

Almost everyone I know has downloaded games off the internet "illegally", be it roms for MAME which they do not "actually own" the rom pcb for, or snes roms or sega cd or what have you....  and I could probably count the number of people I know on one hand who've NEVER downloaded a song off napster or Kazaa or Limewire or gnutella or bearshare or what have you... and put them on a cd and sold it on ebay or to a friend or whatever......

Unless you live in Amish country ( and of course, no disrespect to the Amish ), you probably know someone who's done this stuff too.

I dont know. Its in our culture. Now I'm NOT saying its within man's nature to steal... dont misinterpret what I'm saying, now......  I think things have evolved to where stuff like limewire and selling cds of other people's property has become an acceptible "norm" within our society.  YES, people have been sued for downloading 1000's of songs off napster and even the guy who wrote the Napster program was sued, but if you're a person who's not doing this on a mass scale, chances are you probably wont get caught.

What it ultimately boils down to is your own morals and beliefs.  Are you still a "good person" if you're generally a law abiding citizen but sell a mugen CD to a friend?  Probably, but you're an asshole for doing so.

There are a lot of legal loopholes in the system that need to be ironed out.

As long as there is crime, drugs, poverty, and racism.... there will be people selling mugen.  It's a pessimistic way to look at it, but it's realistic.

I think eventually the law will come around and put a stop to Mugen pirating, but can it be brought up to the level of "software piracy", be taken seriously, and enforced?

I see no difference in selling a copy of Photoshop to someone than selling a copy of Mugen with characters to someone. It's the same thing.  Both illegal in my eyes.

Your thoughts?

Just goes to show that this world is too full of different personalities and beliefs. Sometimes you just have to force someone to do the right thing 'cause they won't and will think it's okay. When there's an opportunity to make money, nothing else seems to matter.

The internet has destroyed the values of just about everything.

Well, we all know it's set in stone that of all thing, DragonClaw would be the most illegal to sell. Reu did copyright him after all.
I belive that even if the seller made all the characters in the game (which is most likely impossible to probe), it's still illegal.

There's a very obscure "service" here in Miami at a car customizing shop...a place where they do all kinds of car alterations that I just recently happen to visit.

It seems one of the guys that works there has his own little "business" selling burned CDs/DVDsgetting and even arcade machines together for a pretty hefty price. He has a whole catalog of emulators and prices depending on how many games you want your arcade cabinet to go with it.
He'll include... get this ....HIS own game called THE FOREVER BATTLE (Mugen) with 50-300 ($30.00) chars and stages or 300 and up ($80.00) He even has a list of characters by style in his catalog so you can make your checklist.

A loled so hard when I saw this and told him I already had this game for FREE in front of his customers, and felt great to point out that this "game" really wasn't of his creation, but the effort of many people on a internet ring.

What a joke.

What a joke.

The really notable thing is that, it might be a joke but from my own experience dealing with hobby companies, I cannot say I would think it improbable. The reason I say that is, I have been modding games and writing hobby code for 15 years+.

I didn’t know what Mugen was, in all those years online, playing games but moreover modding them. I didn’t know this community existed. That is not to say I had never come across a Mugen site, I am sure I did but I had no idea of the modding and creative potential here or what the game was about.

I find it very easy to believe, that people could sell something a relatively low percentage of people know about for profit, because it is so much fun and as good as many (if not all) beat em up games on the market, with just a few dozen good characters, when you have a 40, 50, 100+ great characters, well you are really in a world of your own.

People will do anything when they think they can get away with it, imho I am surprised more stores are not doing this. That would be a thing the various large firms with copyrights could clam down on with a straight face (much of the time their actions are damaging) but that kind of action would be for the greater good.

-edit
I meant to add at the end of that, did you inform trading standards or whoever deals with that kind of malpractice in your country?

Hey guys i found something selling MK games( other people's work ) and stealing other people's work.

His name use to be: MrCowboy2010 or MrCowboy. I tried many times to dig up all posts on this guy, but i guess after you delete that name, and a old site under that name, google doesn't find any information on it anymore.
x LINKS REMOVED BY STAFF FOR PROCESSING, WE THANK You USER FOR BRINGInG THIS TO OUR ATTENTIONx

And all those other games are just other people's games with a update or 2 and he is selling them.

Also, i forget but many people told me a few months ago that this dude who went under the name Mrcowboy now mugenclangaming was stealing people's work.

Also for his update New MK demo, read this:

http://mugenclangaming.enjin.com/forum/m/609958/viewthread/416097-mortal-kombat-2011-themed-mugen/page/1

Go to the 5th post. He is charging people money for a damn demo.

PLEASE MAKE IT KNOWN ABOUT THIS DUDE. I plan to report him big time to youtube about what he is doing. Even tho they might not do anything. I also plan on telling him something, so he can get the message.

peace

Thanks for promoting our site meng. ;) You are awesome for doing so. It's nice to see someone besides us getting our name out there. As for the costs if you read carefully it's for shipping and converting. And we have super fast server downloads for all of our members. Much better than waiting forever on mu or rs or all those other long waiting sites. And the plus with our games is we edit/create and make sure there are no bugs in our games. I really don't see anyone else doing this. Word of advice, don't hate because you don't have the skills or knowledge to do what we do. We keep our members happy and we must be doing something right because they keep coming and we keep making games.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Cyanide on February 11, 2011, 10:59:11 AM
I dunno if that needed a report, he hasn't done anything wrong in that post although selling mugen is just wrong.

1: It's free anyway
2: none of the work put in is really yours
3: i bet you rake off some sort of profit as it's a DOWNLOADABLE THING and you don't need to ship fuck all as you can just give someone a temp link.
4: we don't like people selling copyrighted material because there is every chance it will rebound on us

Out of all those, 4 is actually the one we're most pissed off about. And the reason nobody "provides that service" is because we don't SELL IT EVER.

If you stop, good, if you don't, spose i'll just bring it up with the people who created the engine and let them know you're being a dick.

Of course Mugen is free big dummy. ::)As for the work we put into it yes it's our work. Like I stated before we edit/create and debug all games. I will put it in simple talk so maybe you can have a better understanding. When you remodel a car or house and make it look better or have new things installed in them isn't that giving them an upgrade? I would think so and that is you using your creativity and skills to make something soso better. I must ask how old are you? Because you sound like some little 12 year old who is mad because his mom won't let him use the credit card to order some kickass games. As for the download links do you know how long it takes to upload some of these great games? Some are huge in size and it would take forever to upload them. That's why we ship them out to our members. Like I said before no complaints from our members about any of this. Only the jealous whiny cry babies make complaints about donations.  :'(Lmao your going to tell the mugen creators on us? haha that is sooooo funny but also so lame and desperate. Im gonna tell capcom, marvel, midway, dc comics and the cartoon network on you for using there characters without permission. Thats only fair right? Whats the number for the mugen police? lol Good luck with that one little guy. Do yourself and keep your non-sense out of grown up conversations. Have a nice day ;D

Capcom is already aware of MUGEN and Midway doesn't exist anymore. You'll have better luck trying to get Thomas Edison's telephone number than contacting Midway.

As for the others, Marvel has already taken down fangames in the past. And LOL for assuming that we all use the clusterfuck of horribly coded Cartoon Network characters that are out there.

And nice way of being mature. The big difference is we don't sell the stuff we make, whereas you do, and you include the engine as well, which also violates MUGEN's license agreement I might add.

Correct. If their stance on Freddy and Jason being in Terrordrome was any indication, then expect alot of shitty mugen creations to go offline (including this guy's). While I disapprove of them attacking fans like this, at least it will clean up the community of a multitude of sub-par quality creations.

Also,

Lmao your going to tell the mugen creators on us? haha that is sooooo funny but also so lame and desperate.

Yeah it'll be soooo funny when Elecbyte slaps you guys with a lawsuit just like they did with Vyx, who did exactly what you're doing right now.

Hello people! We don't sell games. What part of that are you not getting? Do I have to post several different languages here? You all are trying to sound intelligent and you are making yourselves sound like retards. We charge for shipping or converting to xmugen for xbox and also sprite making and other artistic or graphical creations. Guess what no crime there. I don't see any games made by you noobs. So keep your mouths shut unless you know what you are talking about. Read a book and do some damn research before you try and sound like a damn jail-house lawyer. You trolls make me sick. And as far as Elecbyte suing us well ummmm not gonna happen. Mugen itself is illegal because of the use of copyrighted characters, stages and many other aspects.

It says there you have to pay to access the downloads? What's the difference? How can that be a donation if you're forcing people to pay you if they want access to content?

Charging for shipping & converting constitutes as free of charge? Since when? That still constitutes as financial gain.

Looks like someone didnt read the readme.txt that commpanies MUGEN:

MUGEN License said:
iv. You agree to indemnify Elecbyte from any legal liability for your

By downloading MUGEN onto your computer, you agreed to this wether you actually read it or not. Elecbyte cannot be sued by DC Comic because Cybaster decided to create a Batman for MUGEN. Unless Elecbyte directly partook in the creation of Batman or otherwise officially sanctioned it, the only person DC can legally sue is Cybaster himself.

I was kinda joking, was refering to the section I had quoted. But also at the time, I didn't realise it was from the same rude guy from earlier.

theyve swiped my game as well. releasing it as theirs. its funny that they got vids of it up and the guy playing totally blows and cant beat noob smoke. they claim "their" game is bug free, but yet i see some in the vid that have never been fixed. the version they are puttin up for download is almost a year old prolly.

theyve taken quite a few things from me. their even using my banner for the game.

my banner
(http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af247/dvshinnox/newmk_sig.png)

and their poor attempt at photo editing. notice how they tried to color out my name and "coming soon"

i didnt have the chance to post anything on their forum. as soon as they seen my username, i was banned. but its ok bc i have another account on there. these assholes have got to be stopped. and they will be.

one of them had a youtube account named mrcoyboy2012. who is known as fightersedge or whatever he wants to call himself.

really sad. its all good tho. i even have some of their personal addresses.

I haven't posted on this forum or even been active in M.U.G.E.N for pretty much 5 years now and I don't plan on getting back into it. However, I'm posting here today to say that I support all M.U.G.E.N developers who actually take their time to produce something spectacular. Anyway, I've been supporting Shinnox for awhile and he's recently told me about these fools who steal everyone else's creations and then sells them as his own. People like that really tick me off and I'm here to support everyone who's M.U.G.E.N creations have gotten stolen or manipulated without permission. I've reported his trashy site to Enjin. Enjin is a webhost dedicated to clan gaming. First of all, he's using his site not for clan purposes but for selling stolen games. This goes within the ToS with the webhost. Another thing is that what he's doing is quite illegal due to the copy-written characters  and Elecbyte states not to sell the engine as it's available for free. I've posted a long message on his own forum explaining what he does but he banned my account and my IP too. I used a proxy to bypass that to make a new account only to realize he now set his website to where he must verify each and every new member. The fool and those who helped create the site should all be known through the M.U.G.E.N community as con artists and thieves. The word needs to get out there about these guys. People are becoming victims by donating to their site to receive a game only to realize the game was publicly available for free. Support the good fight!

Edit: In case no one read the past messages and don't know who I'm talking about. His website is http://mugenclangaming.enjin.com/. His twitter is http://twitter.com/#!/mugenclangaming and his youtube account is http://www.youtube.com/user/MugenClanGaming. As you can see within comments of some of his videos, he claims the work as his own which I highly doubt he owns any of it. particularly Ninja Kombat which is being developed by Shinnox but he claims it as his own and is selling the work on his poorly designed website.

The worst part is charging for it, claiming you are paying for "processing" and "shipping". Like he's running some huge company.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: Sinr_Scurlo on March 17, 2011, 08:57:48 AM
If you're referring to Shinnox, he does indeed charge for shipping mainly because he figured people would prefer a hard copy. I mean, why would he pay to ship the game to everyone himself? If people want the game bad enough, They'll pay the shipping fees. Anyway, what's wrong with running your own company? You've got to start somewhere. You can't expect to wake up some day and a huge company building would fall out of the sky and then say "hmm, look at this huge company building that appeared in front of me. It's empty, so I shall start my own company and call it... CompanyCo."

Back to business, soon Shinnox may ditch the whole disc routine and bring Ninja Kombat to the public for free. This was spoken by him on his twitter account. Details are to be announced soon.

You gotta be joking right? The fact that ANYONE should charge shipping for a mugen is just bullcrap, I've never heard of anyone wanting a "hard copy" of a mugen game, he is taking advantage to make money off of his game.

MUGEN is free, the game companies are not suing mugen because we use their sprites, I'd like to keep it that way.

You cant expect to run a company without developing your own products to sell and instead selling stuff that is copyrighted either, its not like wanting to have a company means you get to sell what you dont own. If that was the case I would have a company selling photocopied comic books off the internet, the payment would be for shipping and i would get my materials free without having to pay writers

he was talking about the other guy.
and btw, umm, i havent charged anyone for anything. thanks for trying, but dont get shit twisted. ninja kombat IS free. i just didnt have it up for dl yet. didnt want to until it was finished. but for the people kind enough to make donations, i sent out FREE demos. and those ppl get to dl the finished version before it gets made public and get bonus characters and stages, etc. its totally different then what these douche bags are doin. their charging access to the downloads and for subscriptions to other ppls games and creations that you can get for free.

all we can really do is contact his subscribers on his site, youtube, etc and make people aware of what hes doing and hope they dont decide to pay for what you can get for free. sadly there will be some that dont care. but the ones that do count.

not really. money can never win against money. because money will win. the main reason why this guy's attack against you was so successful - is because no one really won't find your Ninja Kombat anywhere else. sad but true. there is only one way to restore the order and to ruin their gain from your game - fix these year old bugs and release a FREE beta to the people. I know you value your work, but now it's about creepy dudes make money on Your work. releasing a Better version free would be a hard decision, but believe me it will smash their greedy mouths.

looking from point of view of a total newbie who is not familiar with mugen, and not that ambitious to spent few months to get infos, and hunt each character and stuff together by himself, paying few $ to have thing arranged and ready to play is a simple & quick wayout.

and when there is a demand, there would be supplier no matter its legality, so this problem will never go as long as getting mugen together won't get any easier.

for us to assembly our own mugen might be a hobby, and we can't understand why others want to pay for something that available for free, but it also requires time, patience, effort, and knowledge to do it.

if a friend of a friend (meaning somebody you don't really know) approach you to come to his place to help him to get his mugen works, meaning spending the whole day at his place dealing with boring task to assign every BGM into every stage, then assign every stage into every character, would you refuse if he offered you few bucks in return, not because you sell anything but just for the service you provide.

selling mugen content is against the law and I totally agree with it, but if somebody approach me
and say "dude I have 16gb of mugenz in my HDD can you stop over at my place and sort them out to look like your setting" then surely I won't offer my spare time for free.

at least he has to buy me lunch, snacks , and plenty of coffee in return.

my point is, I hope in the final release of mugen there would be:
drag and drop interface to install custom contents, or other automation to simplify the task.
that elecbyte could maybe make a server that offer free host of qualified characters and screenpack, etc.

I also agree with this, and I have not (yet) contributed to the community. There's something about making things that's enjoyable. Not just knowing the bells and whistles, but finding out how games were (and still are) programmed. Of course, making MUGEN stages and characters isn't the same as working with more advanced software in a studio, but it gives people some idea of what it's like.

This guy doesn't know how to stop. My name on here was Anodion and I know I made some big mistakes but I am trying to fix them. EDGE has fed me too many bs stories and so I hacked games for him and stuck up for him and the site but my eyes are opened now. I am no longer a part of his circus. What he is doing is wrong and he needs to be stopped. It isn't fair to the mugen creators that he is taking there stuff and claiming it as his own and selling it. He still sells it and now he forces donations in order for people to get games. I have my own forum now and it's free for everyone and if I know who the Author of the games are i give them the credit they deserve. We all need to let the past be in the past and move on and figure out a way to stop this moron. He uses B2B to promote his site and youtube page and that's how he gets all of his hits and members. A lot of people do not know the real him or the bad he has done in the mugen community. We all seriously need to figure out a way to stop him and shut down Mugenclangaming. Shinnox once again I am sorry for hacking your moleboxed game. I know you are still mad and I don't blame you but im being a man and admitting my wrongs and I am trying to make them right. I didn't edit your game or change anything in it or even make money from it. i hacked it for him so he put me as a co creator and let everyone see i didn't create anything for that game. It was the genius mind of Shinnox from deadly venom mugen

Are people STILL trying to sell Mugen?? Fucking really??

The only way I would ever sell anything Mugen would be charging for the CD it came on and the fancy case I'd create in PhotoShop. After actual cost figures, it'l cost you a nickel at most. That's when I realize its nonsense to nickel and dime people with fan created content created as a labor of love.

Even Capcom and SNK are cool with us. As long as it stays free.

I swear to god I'm gonna fucking punch someone in the face if I ever publicly see them selling Mugen off. Mark my words....  >:D

This game is such a rip-off you won't believe the DRM it comes with. If I'm not connected to Shinnox's authentication server then Red Scorpion, Y2K, Gameboy Sub Zero, Rubber Soul Reptile, White Noob Saibot, and Shin Level 2 Rain are locked. In order to even connect to the authentication server, I have to pay 5 bucks a month and I can only get the subscription code by getting this game new. Don't even get me started about the pre-order bonuses.  --;

At least the Tournament Edition update will be multiplatform and nerf Mortal Kombat 2 Reptile all for only $39.99

illegal? lmao yea mmk. im not doing anything wrong. people steal my shit and wanna put it up for sale and make money off my hard work? all the time and effort and late ass nights coding and making everything? fuck that. if anyone deserves it, its me. and after 5 years of work i think im entitled to it.

as long as people are selling their own material and works and not someone esles i dont see anything wrong with it at all.

and im not selling MUGEN im selling MY creations. theres a difference. they get the files and install them into the mugen engine.

mugen its self is freeware. and you can whine bitch and moan all you want but Elecbyte or even "mugen" or "m.u.g.e.n" are not fucking legally/officially trademarked or legally copy written. yes they created it, but unless its legally trademarked then there is nothing they can really legally do about people selling the mugen engine. especially if someone came along and trademarked it themselves. bc if its not, its up for grabs.

"ohh but your selling copy written characters" blah blah. um yea and so is every person selling non licensed mk shirts, hats, patches, art, costumes, masks, custom action figures, and so on. i dont see you bitchin or complaining about those people for selling trade marked stuff. selling your own mugen works is no different then printing off a scorpion photo, ironing it to a shirt then sellin it on ebay. and look at how many of those are up on there, and the net in general. if youre gonna try and be some kind of copryright piracy police then go after everyone before pointing your ignorant ass finger at just mugen creators.

You can really only sell your stuff if you make the sprites and etc yourself, like borghi did, if you are using mk assets, you are stealing their assets and they are able to come down on your ass, or worse, come down on the collective elecbyte ass.

So yeah its illegal. The same way that even if you draw a full story of spider-man using your remixed panels from comics, its ilegal. ( Even if it was full of hard work!) Heck, the guy is selling his chars on EBAY of all things, they have a ton of rules about that and will pull the auctions if reported, because, once again, its illegal.

Donate buttons and the like , however, are not.

Post by: Enso on June 19, 2012, 02:21:19 AM
A friend of mine sent me a message saying that there is somebody selling Mugen games for $20. He found someone that sells Mugen games. The one who’s selling ‘em has 4 or 5 accounts. His accounts are: fightersedge, gamerx, gamergirlx, dieselboy, and Edge. He’s making people pay for them trying to make money out of it. Forumers of games, if you know and/or see this guy, catch him. He’s the real crook being involved with getting ‘em whatever he wants. He is behind all of the scheme he’s been doing. I am spreading this word of truth and exposing the real crook around forums. We must stop him from doing that kind of action.

Fuck, is this guy punishable by law or sumething?
I mean piracy is a fraking normal thing nowadays, but stealing MUGEN Characters made by the genius dwelling in these forums then selling them?
Something has to be done.
Fuck this guy.
Gloves off man.

Hate to state the obvious but (relevant parts in bold)...

Mugen readme.txt said:
Redistribution

Elecbyte provides a M.U.G.E.N redistributable package, containing a
minimal M.U.G.E.N Environment, that may be included with third party
content for redistribution. Such Works based on the M.U.G.E.N
Environment may be used and distributed, subject to the following:

i. Works containing the M.U.G.E.N Environment must be provided free
of charge and under the terms of this license.

ii. Works containing the M.U.G.E.N Environment must include an
unmodified copy of this license, as well as any other licenses
bundled with the M.U.G.E.N Environment.

iii. Works containing the M.U.G.E.N Environment must be plainly marked
as a such.

iv. You agree to indemnify Elecbyte from any legal liability for your
use, or distribution, of such Works.

Please note that Elecbyte places no restrictions on the distribution
of character files, stage files, add-on packs, or similar items which
operate under the M.U.G.E.N Environment, that do not contain any
significant portion of the M.U.G.E.N Environment itself.

Restrictions

This license is subject to the following restrictions:

1. The M.U.G.E.N Environment is copyrighted by Elecbyte and may not
be used for commercial purposes in whole or in part, altered or
unaltered, without Elecbyte's express written permission.

2. All distributions of the M.U.G.E.N Environment must retain a copy
of this license.

3. The M.U.G.E.N executable must not be modified for use or
redistribution.

The fact that this guy is selling the engine as part of the games pretty much means he's fucked. Just do what Rajaa said and notify Elecbyte, and then let them handle it from there.

Take a look at the channel on Youtube, you guys. GameProZUnited is uploading videos claiming they're all for consoles especially PC and X-Box. Don't be fooled by the caption saying "FREE" because GameProZUnited is trying to rip people off of money. If you really don't like those guys selling Mugen and doing those kinds of activities, it's time to report GameProzUnited and its activities.

P.S.: I think if stopping him won't work, then maybe catching him would do.

Edit: This time, it's about reporting that YT account.

What exactly are you trying to prove sir? That this guy has started trouble for me before? Why yes he has. He is bad news and I sadly caught on when it was to late. I've stated in other forums I am HomebrewKing only. I don't need to keep commenting to prove myself to anyone. I have stated who I am and what my site is about and if someone intends to bash it or me then so be it. I know my site is legal and nothing foul goes on here. I am only here because a member invited me and said this was a good forum. I don't need to stay here or be a part of this community if it is just some childish game fest pointing fingers or trying to look cool.

And it's quite fun Nickman that you just joined here a little bit ago to try and discredit me right away. Great job showing this site your only intent was drama. o_O

Doesn't mean you're not dirty. Your way of going on a rampage to make homebrewwhatever look bad, naming yourself Mugen Police, and being so happy about showing what he does (look at the way you post and your smileys), kinda shows that you have some personal vendetta against this guy for reasons we ignore (and don't care about).

- Homebrew is just a compilation site for me as long as he has shown videos/screenshots of his so called original work.
- You're just as dirty as homebrew thanks to the links he provided.

As long as you can't prove the contrary, both of you are, in my eyes, just shitty people making profit out of the hard work of dedicated fans. This issue is over on this website. Both of you are obviously involved with selling Mugen content for money. Don't post about it any more because we aren't the Mugen police and nobody here has the ability to do anything about -- it -- or your useless squabbling.

Go to the Elecbyte website or continue to argue through emails or whatever and leave us alone.

- Homebrew is just a compilation site for me as long as he has shown videos/screenshots of his so called original work.
Just show us that so called "original work" of yours, and I'll change my mind.
If you don't have any original work, then what are you calling "if you wish for Xtreme Homebrew to create a custom game for you there is a small hourly donation of $9.99 and that is specifically for the time spent and the professional creation of your custom game" ? What do you propose exactly ? If I send you 10$ for a Dragon Ball Mugen game, what will you give me ?

You don't get to double post because you're scum. Don't do it anymore.

:getout:

But he was targetting me. :stare:
I don't need anybody to defend me. :ninja:
He targets and offends everyone here with the presence of his account.

Listen here dumbass I've done posted my proof of that scum selling games what more do you need? A DNA test or what? What will be sufficient enough for you people to quit running your mouths about me?

For someone who claims to be clearing his name, why are you getting so defensive? All you've done so far is prove that gamerx was selling mugen stuff, which is fine and dandy, but that doesn't automatically indemnify you from the same accusations that were made against you. All you've done so far is get angry and offered absolutely nothing in your own defense other than "I have no problem showing my content to elecbyte" and posting proof of GamerX's illegal activities. Cybaster has asked you more than once to prove your own innocence and you have yet to do so. Based on the way things look, and the picture that's been painted of you so far, what you're doing is essentially the equivalent of a drug dealer reporting a rival drug dealer to the police, thinking it will give them immunity. It doesn't work that way.

Also, insulting a mod is not exactly going to help your case either.

No one has pulled wool over anyone's eyes. We are all pretty convinced HomebrewKing is up to shady stuff. AND we're convinced that you're doing the same kind of shitty stuff as well. Also, you're banned

this is the part where I'm supposed to wish you luck in your future endeavours but I'm not doing that because you're a terrible person who is stealing other people's hard work

No, it proves that I'm mocking your silly defense. You want people to "donate" to download Mugen compilations that anyone with 10 minutes on their hands can assemble. And you make it seem as if your work is originally made, which is most likely horse shit.

Ask "Chico Mayne" he is an Admin at my site. He knows what goes and doesn't go on there. I got defensive because these lousy characters have decided to be childish and insult me and call me names. Chico Mayne is Enso, a guy who was spamming and personally messaging staff members on this site trying to report gamerx just like you. All of you are involved and neither one of you should be trusted.

We're not police officers or district attorneys. What makes any of you think that we can or have to do anything about any of you besides ban you all and stop you from causing ruckus on this site?

It's hard because he has NO proof, because he DOES-- or is at least trying to-- trick people into paying him for other people's hard work. The only excuse he's made is him trying to throw the pressure on that gamerx guy. He's a thieving scumbag, that's all there is to it, and the fact that this question has been asked ALOT up here so far, and he has YET to give any solid proof (he's basically DODGING the question at this point) says enough that he is a shitty crook.

GamerX has been taken care of (http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=112183.msg1613525#msg1613525), so he can't use him to dodge the question anymore. Nobody here is going to ask another admin from his forum to stand in his defense, Homebrew can easily do that himself, but so far is either unwilling or unable to.

And I'll quote Rajaa since his point still stands:

We're not police officers or district attorneys. What makes any of you think that we can or have to do anything about any of you besides ban you all and stop you from causing ruckus on this site?

Seriously, I suggest everyone just file a report to Elecbyte and let them handle it because there is nothing else anyone on this forum can do. We are not Elecbyte. We are not the copyright holders to the Fighting Games you guys are infringing on. And we are not the FBI anti-piracy division. So far it appears that the only reason you two posted on this forum was to bring your drama here, when both of you are at fault for the same thing and neither one of you wants to admit that you're wrong. Does that sound mature to either of you? Because it sure as hell doesn't to me.

Well the fact is I posted to defend my name and my site it's quite simple. If you people would quit being so hotheaded and SLOWLY read what I write you would understand everything I have been try to explain but instead you all call me a crook and twist my words around. I will break this down as simple and respectful as I can.

Donations at my site are just an option
All games are free that are hosted at my site
All members see the download links and download games

The custom game donations haven't even started yet so there is nothing to prove about that yet. It works like this; They fill out the form for what characters they would like to have in the game, they specify the imagery and the backgrounds and also the music. If you are still not getting it basically they could send an image of there grandma and I can make them a stage with her dancing lol. The custom games thing is totally from the ground up not using other people work. I even have specified on my site that the games are free and so are the engines and even have the licence agreements up for everyone to see.

As for the custom games that are specifically released from my site those are under development so that is why they are not out there as of yet. You all should know creation takes time. It's like IMT and Scruffy Dragon they make there own custom games and release them on site because it is there site release.

The only other way I can prove anything is to you come spy on my site I have no problem with that. I have nothing to hide whatsoever. As for the dicks calling me a crook and that I am as shitty as that douchebag well you all that said that can go fuck yourselves. I do things legitimately and no crooked BS goes on at my site. Now if this is still not understood well it only proves I am explaining myself to a damn wall because I don'y know how to explain this any better than I have just now. Become spy's and come report back here I really don't care for the fact I know and also my members know they download other people work for free.

Dude are you slow? What is so wrong about that? That means no one has requested a custom game yet lol. I am beginning to believe that all you want to do is twist words and make trouble when it shouldn't even be. I've checked into the legal side of things and I am in the clear. The only reason I have jumped on the defense is so my name and sites name is not ruined because of lies or people twisting the truth to make it look worse than it actually is.

Yes, I have heard of <NAME REDACTED> and I also happen to know that the site contains ROMs and ISOs thanks to a simple google search, which is illegal anyway even if they weren't charging for donations. Bad analogy.

I'm pretty sure the sale restriction mentioned in the Mugen license applies only to the Mugen engine itself.

EDIT:

readme.txt said:
Please note that Elecbyte places no restrictions on the distribution
of character files, stage files, add-on packs, or similar items which
operate under the M.U.G.E.N Environment, that do not contain any
significant portion of the M.U.G.E.N Environment itself.

EDIT2: just reread his post and I have to ask what music made by yourself has to do with the mugen engine outside of including it as part of a fullgame?

I understand you can't make money selling MUGEN, and I'm fine with that. But because of these motherfuckers like the ones mentioned above and some Youtube channels a lot of what I'm doing is going to be private. It's a lot of time spent working on something for someone else to make a profit out of.
Perhaps it is one of the reasons why some old authors have left.

For those of you who use Facebook, our old pal ACE MILLION has transitioned over there in order to continue selling "premium versions" of his RetroVersus 2K20 fullgame:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/RetroVersus2k20/

For those of you who don't know, RetroVersus is largely a compilation of other peoples work- characters and stages that ACE edited and put into his game. As has been rehashed time and time again, much of these are lazy surface edits that result in quality loss and unintended bugs.

Though he is less on the nose about it, mostly talking about "donations" for his work, it is clear he is still offering a premium version of the game with "exclusive" characters and stages to those willing to donate, essentially placing this compilation behind a paywall. I guess he's calling it a premium membership now. There is a "free version" as well.

(you may note the date, but there is discussion in the group as recent as 3 weeks ago in which ACE is seen trying to sell the game to people.)

Technically, theres nothing we at Guild can do about this, as its not our concern whats going on outside this forum. However, it should be known that this charlatan is attempting to make, and has probably made, profit illegally off MUGEN. I don't think we'll have a problem with him coming here because he swore off Guild's "negativity" directed towards his game, but I am posting here to make sure people know this is a person you should avoid.

It's important to clarify the whole story about MKTX. The project was headed by Kage999, with the aid of Fly and Le@N. Them shit happend and Le@N decided to leak MKTX, triyng to sell the game. That's why the project was discontinued and it seems that Le@N still with his behaviour to claim the project for himself and selling it again.

Oh my @Le@N... Again with that shit? You got the balls to insult me on YouTube and Facebook after my reply over your hypocrisy when you said that you won't like people that leak and sell MUGEN content. You're one of them, the worst of them!

Title: Re: Auction alert

They're vile, but in a weird technicality, the money is being made off the clicks. It's still monetization though and we forbid it; there was a stink when Ilusionista used it, moreso when that OakTheShadowDragon kid or whatever was around, we banned MA for it.
Title: Re: Auction alert

I see, at the end of the day, it is still monetization with the work of others. It's wrong. There are at least two channels that I can point to, obviously there are more, but then I would be typing names all day and would not go anywhere. MUGEN Player and MUGEN Imperial. They are relevant to the topic, I suppose, since Gui is sharing about people making money from MUGEN, but in this case he even shares videos of these guys.

These are the ones i warmed about. If they still with that crap, i'll not go easy on them for now.
And the only reason i posted these MUGEN content or compilations that many channels post before with adfly or site in the link, it's clearly to made people download that stuff by clicking directly in the download link, exactly to made people safe of this adfly shit, not to support these other channels. If it was for that logic i would put adfly shit in my links, thing that i will never do!

On the other hand, there will still be a lot of people paying for MUGEN, not everyone knows the engine, and sometimes, even though they have already heard about it, they have no idea how it works. Just remember the case in the "Mercado Livre", some people actually bought the game TQH0 that was sold for that scum. Bandits take advantage of any opportunity.

Sure, people can be commissioned for making new sprites, or for coding new characters in a certain style :beam:
... But it has to be their new, original work, not just profit by modifying existing free content.

Compilations are literally just putting lots of free stuff available on the internet in 1 bag, and putting a price tag on them. They didn't do anything new, of value, original.

This is why people discourage compilations - They kill the free, community spirit of Mugen.

Title: Re: Auction alert

Theres no insight to glean from this conversation beyond what Walt said. The concept of being paid to repackage other peoples work is a detriment to the free/open source nature of MUGEN. If Elecbyte was still around, it would be in fact illegal to sell "fullgames" "builds" or "compilations" as it violates the software's original license.

5 to 10 dollars isn't a lot. This comes down to principle. I really don't care if gullible people get scammed by people selling MUGEN builds. That doesn't mean the people scamming shouldn't be called out. Especially when they're using other people's work. Ace Million took the work of the HDBZ team, who put countless hours into developing their characters as a passion project, and moleboxed them into a "premium build" he then tried to sell. It's scumbag behavior.
Title: Re: Auction alert

Donations should be optional, and that's not the case here, you need to donate in order to get the build, which is the same as buying so it's not a donation anymore.
Title: Re: Auction alert
Post by: walt on February 25, 2020, 07:48:25 PM
Ok, I'll humor this. Let's extrapolate here un0mic!

Imagine that "Time is money" and all time is super valuable. What would NIKE had to say if you spent your time creating Sneakers knock offs in your living room? "It's just fabric, plastic, and a drawing of a checkmark". Someone sure would pay for the time you spent. What do you think Nike would have to say about that? You think they'd appreciate it? (Legal action aside). You didn't create nothing, you'd be effectively riding on the coat tails of Nike putting in the work, creating a brand, reputation, recognition, etc.

People in MUGEN put in the work. They study source games, create problem solving techniques and workarounds for the implementation of moves and playstyles. They create their own brand and trends ("POTS Style", "Warusaki Style", ADD004 Style). These people are the Creators, not the dude who put them in a package. Compilators don't build a brand, or make a product, they're basically the dudes at the end of the register who put the groceries in the bags.

Donations are optional. full build you have to donate a certain amount. everything everyone does is using other ppls work... we are all constantly standing on the shoulders of those b4 us.... with everything we do.

and a donation is just that. its not a profit if the time is being used to build more.

Nah. But I can see ain't nobody is changing your mind.

You're convinced that adding sparks is the same as creating each move's profile, adjusting the animations and hitboxes (hacking the games to get the boxes is Certified HARD), ripping the sprites and generating shared the palettes, collecting sounds (how many different apps are necessary to make the SND? Do you know?).

The real heroes putting in the work charge nothing for their expert work. Mr. Grocery Bags over here DOES, and that shit is fucked up.

The thing is my mind was changed... I was on your side. be it not for the same reasons but on your side nonetheless...
my mind was changed by playing the game.  unmoleboxing it. looking at the code.  seeing time and effort went into it. and seeing what he feels he needs to continue. as an artist I feel that. I know what it takes. I was gonna try to sell my build but I felt the hurdles where too extensive since I concluded there was no real outlet. so i moved to openbor

but when it come to outlets... if you build it... they will come... Ace proved it to me. This Guild proved it to me

It just means mash one button to win the game instantly. Is that what you call fun gameplay?

Believe it or not, I have and it's fucking garbage, as I expected it to be.
RV isn't even "haha epic funny". It's so borderline unplayable for how sped up and buggy of a mess it is. I couldn't do the most BASIC MVC air combos without getting stuck in the air. Not to mention the best character in the whole damn game is Ace's self-insert character because hE iZ tHa CrEaYtUrrrrrr.

Also, "the RV community enjoys it"? That 'community' must really consist of sad, gullible people who don't even know that all the shit Ace put in it is stolen elsewhere.

Not a single person should stand by such outrageous, greedy and SLIMY tactics as what Ace is doing.

Save your $5 or whatever and spend it on a real Marvel game, not this shit.

its cuz yall are mugen coders and know how to do what he did (and do it better from the way yall talk.) but other ppl don't know how "easy" it is... but we all know its not... its all about know how and time...

the RV community sees a black coder using his talent to inspire others to keep going no matter what non supporters and haters think... inspirational to our culture... while its seems to offend the mugen culture. at the very least this Guild. and I'm still confused in why exactly....

cuz he didn't give yall shout outs? is that all? if he just gave credit it would be OK? like the scientist who sites sources of his data?

I have all the lots of fighters on PS4... psn twzgamerradio come get this work....

but it doesn't.... does a build have to be just like the game its based on to be consider good?

Oh right, RV community, a bunch of deluded people that still PAYING for shitty edits instead of grab the original content (or even better edits) FOR FREE!
Ace-Million is other dude that decided to go in that way and it's really sad, i've enjoyed the stages he did. But now he did such broken characters edits, molebox them and selling them via paywall.

"Donations are optional". Don't come with that excuse! It's the same excuse that Le@N used against me. Le@N that now is trying to intimidate me and even threaten me several times. Donations about MUGEN stuff aren't supposed to be like that, it's supposed to be a way of helping the creator/editor to improve and to help on get better stuff to work.

the RV community sees a black coder using his talent to inspire others to keep going no matter what non supporters and haters think... inspirational to our culture... while its seems to offend the mugen culture. at the very least this Guild. and I'm still confused in why exactly....

Are you fucking serious? So selling MUGEN content, that is in fact a bunch of broken edits, is inspiring?
And what culture you're talking about? What Ace-Million and few others are doing with that bullshit to sell MUGEN content via paywall is not "offensive". It's truly something shameful for the community.

The build being garbage or not doesn't matter, there are tons of builds like this that we don't even talk about. The point is him selling a thing that should be free. It could be the greatest mugen game that you'll ever play, it would still be illegal.

Is this thing still being discussed?  ;D

The 5 dollar game based on a free engine is never going to be that good, especially when a big comapny like Camcom, SNK or Namco is not developing it.

The RV community is pathetic to say the least.

They can get greater content anywhere else for FREE at MFG, MA, MFFA but they can't be bothered to search a few keywords starting with "MUGEN ______".

If they pay 5 dollars for laziness? Not my problem, but shame on them! ahahaha

They do, when the work is done right. There are a bunch of people who take comissions. Make a whole character, making sprites from scratch, coding, color separation, and so on. Not to mention people who develop tools like Fighter Factory, sprite/sound rip tools, hitbox viewer, stage viewer, vselect... They don't ask anything for it but they have donations open, it's different than selling.

If you want to sell something, go develop your own engine, start a new company and hire people.

I think you're overestimating the amount of work Ace put into this game, especially in comparison to the people who originally made the content he included. Legal issues aside, it hardly seems fair that one guy gets to profit off what is effectively the work of others; it'd be like if someone took the free, open-source IKEMEN GO engine, changed the app title to IKEMEN STOP, then started selling it/asking for donations as if they did all the work.

i've always seen mugen compilations on the same light as youtube reaction videos. where some talentless nobody takes something made by someone with actual talent and simply rides on their hard work to gain attention by adding nothing of value (and even worst are the idiots who support it)

now, you can simply ignore it and say "oh, it's another one of those. whatever". but, to also make money out of someone's else work is the lowest. and of course, they always get deffensive whenever they get called out.

alternatively, mugen comilations are the modern version of this (https://youtu.be/YgqoyPqJ05o) (but sleazier)

Ok, let's just go back to the start.

At the start the general comunity stabndars were like this:

To do anything re-using other people's work you needed to get permission. that's it, you just had to get an agreement like two consenting adults, like in the real world; If i sell you a computer for $5 and we both consent is ok, If I sell the smae computer for 5k dollars and we boht consent it is also ok.

But, as time went on, some creators overdid this; it got pretty riduculous ; creators that had quit for years still have their creations banned becasue there was no way to get consent ; some creators evne forbid peopel from taking screenshots of their works. So the comunity did a shift on ethics; reusing other people's work was ok as long as credit was given.

The line was dranw there, even if  permission was given you still needed to ask for permission if you were to monetize your reuse. I won't get into details now but there was a lot of backlash on selling mugen stuff back then, from annoying creators to being at risk of being targeted by capcom and snk, because, as Isaid before about getting permission, we literalyl asked permission from the original game creators, capcom, snk, french bread, etc... and they said they were ok as long as nothign was being sold, with the exception of french bread, whom were such a small company that having mugen versions of their characters actully damaged them, so french bread characters got banned from the mugen comunity until they changed thier mind/grewinto a bigger company.

that's a summary of all the historical context you are missing.

when it comes to "work" mugen, assets, codes and spites turn into tools to make the game. you need to know how to use the tools to get the job done. I don't have to pay for my 3d printer schematics. i just have o take the time to find good work so I can print what I want.  and sell it

and openbor is open source and they have no problem with you making your own game... in fact they encourage it. they will "molebox" it for you. be it really be just encrypting the pak file...

Thank you for this.

All I saw was someone opening the door for mugen monetization. just like someone opened the door for tag mode ect. see what they did and using to make what you are doing better. AND if you think ppl are profiting on it is bad it must mean your always in the red cuz you make no money. but thats trying to turn your hobby into a business. if its just a hobby why get mad when someone wants to at least be in black for their efforts at 1 point. -That is the dream Walt... being in black for your effort

Maybe its cuz my moral and ethics get tested daily just to get by... but I see nothing wrong with trying to monetize mugen. even when using other ppls tools aka assets

and I am a believer of asking for forgiveness than the latter asking for permission...

and I'm not defending Ace... I speaking up for those who have ideas on monetizing mugen. I think those ideas should be shared and expounded upon to make those ideas better.... just like this community does with other mugen ideas....

You're again assuming Ace has put a ton of work into the game when he hasn't. You could always monetise MUGEN by creating something completely original and obtaining a commercial licence from Elecbyte, thus allowing you to legally sell your game, but that's not the case here in the slightest; Ace does not have a commercial licence to monetise the engine and has neither legal ownership over the characters—as the assets are from commercial games—nor creative ownership because he didn't make them and the edits made to them are minimal in contrast, so you're paying a guy money to get access to a game full of characters you can effectively get for free from their original sources.

But hey, it's your money you're using to fund illegal distribution of the engine and copyrighted content, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The "Mugen Monetization Block" shouldn't even be a thing.

There ain't a large pool of newcomers coming up to learn to code mugen from scratch, or make quality or accurate creations. If there were those, I'd rather champion those than Compilators.

AceMillion didn't open the door for anything.

Repackaging other's peoples' shit is an old and worn out con people have been doing for almost two decades, you'd realize this if you actually bothered to read this thread. Ace didn't even invent the model of "taking donations" when he's just straight up selling access to the game.

Ace's sole achievement so far has been getting money from you, and the fact that you haven't even realized this even though people have tried to get this through your skull for two pages makes me question if you would be any good at hustlin'.

The only reason why the "mugen monetization block" even exists is because elecbyte doesn't really give a shit anymore, but when the did they sued a user for 10K who claimed the engine as his own and I'm sure if they came back they'd be more than happy to do it to your "games" ass considering your friend is profiteering over it. Street fighter prefect 2: the electric boogaloo Retroversus is the most Kusoge thing I've seen in mugen and that's saying a lot. also why do you discourage adfly links? why not have 2 links one adlfy one regular free. and put if you want to support click the adfly if not here's the file.

The only reason why the "mugen monetization block" even exists is because elecbyte doesn't really give a shit anymore, but when the did they sued a user for 10K who claimed the engine as his own and I'm sure if they came back they'd be more than happy to do it to your "games" ass considering your friend is profiteering over it.

you talking like he's balling over this... bruh relax.

Street fighter prefect 2: the electric boogaloo Retroversus is the most Kusoge thing I've seen in mugen and that's saying a lot. Also quit playing this agreest narrative you've got here, it's not fooling anybody.

bruh. ive been here on and off got help from some of the OG's be it I never finished my build... but I'm only here for understanding and to support monetizing something someone abandoned... have you ever had a civil disagreement?

He's still violating the license agreement no matter if he gets a million or a fucking cent over it, this isn't arguable nor defendable. If this was any other license agreement from a more active company, His ass would be grass.

I don't care if you got help for the "OG's" at all lol, also putting something behind a paywall that isn't even good in the first place is scummy as fuck. Even if retroversus gets all the fixes in the world it's core gameplay will still make it trash. It's only really fun to laugh at how functionally awful it is... no seriously sad claps warping mechanics as an actual mechanic in the "game". Please tell me what commercial fighting game where you can warp out of the corner for free by using backdash.

I dont give a shit who you are or what you are a fan of. You would clearly let him sell your ass for money because that means hes a hustler.

We get it. you have no morals and would let yourself be pimped out if it meant another hustler was getting paid.  This is who you are.

Are you going to keep defending someone selling your ass for cash or do you have another auction to report?  Because theres not really much here you can do other than defending your ass getting sold.

so your saying I could go make a burger myself or have someone else make the burger for me?

Odd analogy, but let's roll with it.

If you make the burger yourself, you have to go buy the ingredients; the shop where you purchased the ingredients likely had to buy them or owns a farm/vegetable garden/mill to produce the ingredients themselves.

If you buy the burger, you're paying the company who made that burger, who in turn had to buy the ingredients needed to produce it.

Trace all sources back to their origins, and you'll find all parties involved are (hopefully) compensated for their efforts.

Ace is selling content he obtained for free; the people who spent their free time creating that content have not been compensated. It is—to continue using your analogy—the equivalent of stealing a burger, adding some "mystery sauce" to it, and then selling it on.

more like stealing the ingredients or even taking a free burger taking off the pickles then adding sauce then asking for a donation for said burger...
or even better using the free garden/farm to make burgers but ask for donations for your the time to make said burger...
but I see what your saying...

Still rolling with that ad hominem I see, if anything you're the one here with the illegal argument here. You are pretty much saying that it's ok to sell a mugen full game against it's license agreement with very specifically says

Quote
Usage

Under this license, permission is granted to use the M.U.G.E.N
Environment free of charge for non-commercial purposes.

as well as

Quote
i. Works containing the M.U.G.E.N Environment must be provided free
of charge and under the terms of this license.

also

Quote
1. The M.U.G.E.N Environment is copyrighted by Elecbyte and may not
be used for commercial purposes in whole or in part, altered or
unaltered, without Elecbyte's express written permission.

plus

Quote
II. Failure by Elecbyte to enforce any of the terms of this agreement
shall not constitute forfeiture of Elecbyte's right to enforce said
terms.

And even if you can argue for selling just the assets (which are by the way are by other companies for the most part)

Quote
Sample Content

Please note that the sample content included with the full M.U.G.E.N
package is not part of the M.U.G.E.N Environment, and is under a
separate license, the Creative Commons Noncommercial License, with

so even if you had an argument here which you clearly don't, you wouldn't be able to back it up period.

man rules here are you can be rude and disrespectful as but don't try to gain a profit...

You do realize the latter is why the former is happening, hence why it's on the thread for said mugen auction thread in the first place.

I don't think this community is lost... I don't see why the dopest fighting game ever made hasn't been done by the community. Mugen should have been in EVO but not supporting the ability to monetize will kill any seed planted in the FCG dirt...

So Mr. breakrules here is still trying to get the last word... oh he also likes weed, which surely has everything to do with MUGEN. If you'd make a compilation using other other people's works so I'd 100% buy it, cause why not? Why should I download everything myself when someone already did that and made a shitty umbalanced game? What, because it's free? No, he puts effort into it! Look how much work he has put on it, it's not easy to download these chars and put them together! It's not like anyone here can do this! Let me "support" him!

Don't act like it's not rude at all to totally ignore everything people are saying to you, blow off all their points, and gloat about how awesome it is for Acemillion to steal other people's work and sell it is. That's rude as fuck! You're getting the exact kind of reaction you yourself are putting out to the world.

Also, I feel like everyone's getting sidetracked in all this about what Elecbyte's license says, and whether its OK to monetize MUGEN, etc. That stuff is certainly important, but there's a really key issue that isn't really being talked enough about, and that is the fact that Acemillion is stealing the hard work and effort of other people and selling it for profit. That isn't a complicated, grey area like the Elecbyte licensing stuff. That isn't some ingenious scheme that has never been attempted before and should be celebrated for its cleverness.

It's just straight up theft. And it's completely and utterly unacceptable.

But the same can not be said of the reverse. This has not been a very productive or fruitful conversation for anyone involved, but if there is one person who can be said to be contributing the most to it not being a good use of time, it would have to be you.

Also, please don't quote the rules at a moderator as some kind of inane "gotcha". The staff know when people are breaking the rules. No one has in their replies to you. As a fellow creator learning and making stuff, I also smoke weed and create characters and work on my full game, and I am ashamed of this Weed and Video Games user. He makes pot users look really bad. I think he may smoke too many bong hits between every 2 words he types per post. Bro, you got underdog and stupidity mixed up. Also, not all potheads are rule breakers, some can work hard and blend in with the rules of society and communities. Lastly, you keep jumping to all these random tangents when people are trying to help you realize your flawed mistakes. Take their advice and roll with it, quit being a little boy prancing around it. At the end of the day it's you who ain't gonna grow, not us. People are trying to help you here but you are your own worst enemy.
