idk if this is where you would put it but if not please make sure this is put in the right spot anyways. here i want to talk about arcade sticks for fighting games. Arcade sticks have been out of style since street fighter 2 but since this is the year of the fighters they seem to be trying to make a come back. right now personally i didn't know how to use arcades sticks/fight sticks but since i found out about mods to them i got interested im currently using the Standard Edition/SE SF4 stick. this is a very good stick but i guess not as good as the Tournament Edition/TE stick. anyways i plan on making mods myself to make it just as good as the TE stick or maybe even better. Both can be modded to your own standards. the problem is that most people don't know how. so i did some searching and found some stuff that could help with these problems.

Well first the SE stick is less modifiable than the TE stick but people found ways to get around that. naturally people recommend vinyls or krylon but another yet cheaper not really easier but decent is the sticky paper for the art work which was the non-modifiable part of the stick. it doesn't cost that much and requires half an hour of your time consider the hard part is cutting the holes to the exact size. you can find sticky paper at your local staples store. also the best products for arcades sticks as in buttons and the pad is sanwa material.
here is a video of what this guy used for his SE stick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co9o4wUkXyY&feature=related

TE stick right now is the so called best example of the arcade stick and can be modified in anyway you can think of. i don't personally have it but it is known to satisfy their customers needs. also they have hori arcade sticks that are just as good. here are some video's that you should follow if you want to do this.

this is more towards the hori but it's exactly the same trust me.

please share any arcade stick mods they you may have done think you.

Shoryuken can usually cover one's template needs. Once the parts arrive for the other stick I'll order the art for both and post some pics and details here.

btw could we have that fighting games board now? =D

Good, positive thread.

I purchased the TE Stick from Capcom.us not to long ago and when it came sure I had my doubts as I work with technology at Best Buy and I see the return frequency but I wanted to trial and error (and ofcourse do more combos) with the TE Stick. When the stick arrived I surely had to get used to the Japanies product and my worst was the Square Gate restrictor for the stick. I knew it was a normal part but I could not get around to understanding why there is a square gate inside. I quickly read up at shoryken about Octo gate restrictor and got trolled right away 8). Not even 12 hours in me and my dad opened the stick knowing nothing about sticks/modding it but just to see what it looks like inside and what can be done. The stick did indeed look really easy to modify and we started doing just that.

We poped the square gate open from it's hindges and started to toy with it. My theory was that if there was someway to pop the actual square of I can have a full circle feel and to my surprize me and my dad popped the square right off and I tried it w/o any restrictions at all. It felt smoother and easier because DF's where more on point but it could damage the actual stick so I knew I needed a restrictor. So I ordered:
http://www.modchipman.com/sanwa-gty-octagonal-restrictor-plate-p-1658.html
And I went from

As you can see the square gate restrictor on the left hand side is smaller as compared to the octo gate restrictor on the right so it is true that some moves do have more throw but with practice its not that bad. The octo gate for me is doing its job better then the square gate for me personaly as I am mastering my product but I am not quite there yet. I could go back to the square gate at any time and have a more japanies arcade feel but it's personal prefrence so if anybody seeks to modify their gate restrictor you have the links.

My only gripe about the stick now a days is that the plastic everything does get scratched up quite easy and there is a little plastic washer type around the sticks neck so when you do move the stick when you play it does scratch the surface so now there is a scratched looking ring heh.

I also want to mod my face plate sometime.:D

You must file a requisition and wait 15 to 20 working days.
You can help with Ikemen GO's development by trying out the latest development build and reporting any bugs on GitHub.
My Mugen and Ikemen content can also be found here.

i completely agree with laQuak on the circle and octagon restriction being better than the Japaneses square restriction but i do prefer the sanwa buttons

Jesuszilla

FTR, octagonal restrictors REALLY help me out on those DP motions. So if you have a square gate and are having problems pulling them off, I'd recommend getting an octagonal restrictor.

LaQuak

Gates help, but alot has to do with hand dexterity aswell. I am a right hander so naturaly I can pull of the moves standing on my right but left hand side was a bit tricky when I got the stick not being used to it. So what I did was the following for me to improve.

I always made matches so I start on the left hand side and/or in training mode keep repeating D,F,DF and negative edging whilst I am coming down. The less interval time when the character hit the floor the better. Sure it's a bit easier doing the move in the air but you get the feel of the gate restrictor better. I do have charge moves on Gen and sometimes D,U doesn't go the way I plan (I should not even be using that move) but it's tamable.

Custom skin question.
I haven't had time to read the SRK post but I did notice that I can download the template and open it with Photoshop but I don't have the program. What kind of paper do you use to print those skins? Glossy I would assume and you need a good printer right?

Or wait until I care enough to just create one.

i have realized that i suck with the arcade stick when it comes to street fighter but when it comes to king of fighters i am monster lol. so as you can see im getting ready for kof12 and moding the art on my SE arcade stick.

also i was thinking of going fancy and trying the buttons that light up but i don't know yet

Messatsu

Aspect ratio looks weird on the middle art.

yeah i had to scale the whole thing cuz piecing it together wasn't working for me but i just made a recent one. i think im going to use this one for my SE stick.
here it is :

here is another place where you can buy buttons: http://gamingnow.net/default.aspx

I'm wondering if they make less symmetrical octo.  Like the cardinal directions only have a slight indent, while the diagonals are normal.  That way you don't have to remember dead space to place the stick where needed.  Or a square with slight indents (depends on your perspective).
