To start things off, a laughably awful review of Tattoo Assassins by some guy who is apparently haunted by the piercing beeps of his heat detector

But I dunno...I seem to have an alarming amount of interest towards these type of games, just really, really goofy fighters that feature digitized characters looking as silly as they possibly can

So I guess this is the thread to discuss them because I eventually wanna make as many characters in MUGEN from these games as I can, Billy Two Moons possibly being a starter

Also I find it funny that people say Battle Monsters fits into this category even though it plays nothing like MK (and thank god for that)

Fists of Fire plays pretty good, as well as it's precursor. Blood Warrior (no Jackie Chan, but a similar game made by Kaneko).  If you look past some of the goofy characters and fatalities, there's a lot worth checking out.

maybe because it wasnt just a rippoff maybe...while it used digitized graphics for the characters too, the gameplay itself was totally different from the MK arcade games

The reason on one brought up the Street Fighter the Movie because it had a lot going for it. Like the actors from the movie and a great franchise.

In fact, I'm not sure how they fucked that up so bad. All they had to do was make the gameplay better wtf.

I kinda want to rip those Jackie Chan sprites.

I've been researching these other ones in the past two months and liked some aspects of them and not so much others. Some were complete rip offs and others were a solid attempt. But mostly unpleasant.

I played Shadow Monsters and Ultra Vortex, I can't get Kasumi Ninja to run at all or Jackie Chan Arcade game.


I think they are charming in that it's different from 2d and 3d stuff which can get a little tiresome if that is all there is now with the exception of puzzle games.

I suppose it is an acquired taste and really an old gen exclusive favorite that the new gen can't/won't understand. There is no doubt it's popularity has long since died with the exception of just a few old timers out there.


SF the movie arcade game was pretty good but according to the game's bios on Mame (emulator)

many diehard Street Fighter fans just didn't find the digitized characters appealing, as they lacked the initial charm of the original drawn sprites. What was overlooked, however, was that this is a decent fighting game in its own right and failed due to poor marketing and public squeamishness.

I have to agree here, the movie wasn't that great but maybe it just wasn't ever meant for reality. But yeah it played well and it looked kinda okay.
