QuoteThis part of the interview is quite interesting.

Mori says here they are planning a new fighting game series for the PS4, pointing that they make new series when a new machine is coming out(GG for dreamcast and BB for PS3).

I'm all for either a cyberpunk or steampunk fighter this time.

"Bad News" Hoffmann

YES ! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

But goddamn...Guilty Gear 3 would be nice too.

I think it's a bit early for a thread, we don't have a screen, name or even concept art yet.  Also this doesn't necessitate a new series, just look at Battle Fantasia.

I figured that but then i also figured someone like Uche would of ended up making the same topic later anyway.

But wasn't Battle Fantasia was a new Ip as well?

Keku

Battle Fantasia was actually considered a new IP that was supposed to bloom, but it never really caught on.
Spoiler: Unlike BlazBlue. (click to show)
BB was initially the result of rotoscoping tests and was worked on immediately after SBX. At first, ASW interviews during AOU 2008 did state they were hoping it'd be a success compared to BF. If anything, it only caught on due to how it looked like a true spiritual successor to GG in consumer eyes.

Considering the big boom of PS4 information and the fact that this game is in the works, more information may appear soon and that validates enough reason for discussion. Besides, we can always update the thread.

What I wonder is how this game would take advantage of the system...

hmmm..but GG was out years before ..just GGX made for the Naomi / DC ..maybe a translation mistake there

Keku

Well technically, GGX was an incredibly huge jump for the series since it was way different from the original game in nearly every way. That, and GG as a series has been through way too many development hurdles.

I am hoping something similar to tokitowa, which with fighting game framecounts would be a performance beast..

That would look incredible in motion.  I'd love to see that.

for guilty gear they went for "single" res (320x240), then for guilgty gear x they went vga res (the dreamcast was able to output a vga signal ) so "double" res, for the ps3/blazblue they went for 1280x720 res sprite wise, which should be 4 res , but they used ehight instead of width so it was actually triple res.

Now, the ps4 should be easily capable of 1920x1080 ( some rumours point to 4k which is 4 1080 screens) 1920 is 6 times 320 so it should be sextuple res if they decide to use the width if they use the height it would be 4.5 res, so we are getting an increase of either 1.5 o 2 in the sprite size, it would eb double that if 4k becoes a thing on time (which seems rushed right now, but apparently japanese tv stations are pushing for it as they want tv to have more advantages over the internet, they plan to air teh world cup in that format ).

Going by sprites so big (as the only game with bigger sprites than blazblue is tokitowa) might mean that they finally drop the palette engine, or they will employ new production methods for the sprites (maybe adapting whatever they have for blazblue).

The 100 Mega Shock!

Sony have already come out and said the PS4 won't drive games at 4K, recorded videos and photos only. It's not worth anyone concentrating on unless you're using it for absurdly large screens where the PPI difference is easily noticable at an average viewing distance, and you'll be struggling to push that many pixels with 60fps in the first place for expensive televisions nobody owns.

"Bad News" Hoffmann

^^ they mentioned the ps4 dashboard might be possible in 4k resolution too, but honestly i don't want to buy a new tv again already and the 4k tvs are quite expensive still or?

Bastard Mami

yeah, they are still very expensive, cheapest one is like 7k usd.

Whatever it is, I hope it plays uniquely and differently from games that Arcsys have previously made. Not because I don't like them, because I do, but just like how Capcom does, make every series extremely different.
