The long standing MUGEN website Randomselect, which hosted a large number of characters and stages, has went down as of today.

http://randomselect.piiym.net/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi

Not much is lost as far as I'm aware, since it can still be accessed via the Wayback Machine, but still, it sucks to see this historic site go down.

EDIT: If anyone still wants to download any characters, stages, or other misc MUGEN things that were hosted on the site, this archive should help (Thank you, Iced, for bringing this to my attention): http://network.mugenguild.com/rs/

Did they shut down the site or is it a host problem like MFFA did a few times? :(

Honestly, I actually don't have a clue... This is the first time this has happened with RandomSelect as far as I know. It's possible, but I don't want to get my hopes up. There is also the fact that Piiym (the host) was hacked a while ago (Not sure when exactly, but I think it was within the last year at least).

It's definitely dead. XCB said he's closing the host due to the hack that happened a few weeks ago.

Even so, it might be a good idea to archive the stuff that was hosted.

Oh damn, that's a shame. :(
So much great stuff that is gone.

Agreed with DF, hosting the stuff it's not only the good, it's the best idea.

Shut down.
XCB posted a Twitter thread about it 3 weeks ago.

Initially, everything was maliciously wiped on the 17th of July by a random hacker.
After the wipe, I restored what little I had from an archive.org snapshot, KFM restored RS, and Serio restored their Castlevania Fighter stuff.

Then, the closure was announced.
The PIIYM webspace expired a week earlier than stated.

As for the MUGEN files:

Serio seemed done with everything, uploaded their site and the CVF files to MEGA.
There is a group of CVF fans from Serio's forums that put together a discord server to preserve and continue working on it.

KFM said he was done, he's since moved on to leading a team of Fallout 4 modders working on a mod called "Junkmaster".
XCB said he was done.
I randomly lurk, My old files should still be on archive.org, as well as Ricepigeon's old hosted stuff.
As for the others hosted - They have been MIA, so I assume the files lost unless there's webarchive snapshots.

That's all I know.

Edit: Error 504 Server issues caused multiple posts, deleted them and cleaned up my post a bit.

I'd believe that if we didn't have whole communities trying to preserve stuff.

What the actual hell? I was JUST on there a couple days downloading a few characters for nostalgia sake. Wow. Mugen just feels a bit bleak these days, man.
You either quit a decent creator, or stay long enough to become Kung Fu Man.

Those guys have been MIA for years and whatever existed was probably hosted on RS.

Try using archive.org on mrev's infara/happy-cat urls or i-xcell now-defunct com/net webhosts.

Don't go to any i-xcell page w/o webarchive though if they exist. In 2008, after RS left i-xcell I found a still-online page (somehow) that got hugely bloated with malware and I got an actual virus from it.

Who knows if it's still like that
