Small aircrafts aren't as safe as large cargo and passenger ones.
And in this case, it was a World War II training aircraft. Even with great maintenance those are prone to have mechanical failures at some point.

Luckily, it happened when a skilled pilot was flying it.

With a record like that, I'd rather not  get a plane with him though. Some might say he's jinxed.
Nice to see him walk away from it at the very  least.

Multiple plane crashes and he hasn't died? He's just as badass in real life as he is in his movies. :)
Though on the other hand, he has just as much luck with planes as New 52 Hal Jordan.

Apparently, Ford's wife, Callista something, now forbids him to fly Solo yes I did that anymore.
