Back when we were watching the gamescom stream on Discord I was sure that it supposed to be another Ubisoft game.

Curious if it's going to be in 2D or 3D.

https://bloody-disgusting.com/video-games/3682880/forever-entertainment-announces-remake-of-1993-beat-em-up-night-slashers

Quote
When we did our first list of horror arcade games, we mentioned Data East’s Night Slashers as one of those brawlers that you probably missed out on, due to Capcom having cornered the market. Well, if you’re one of those missed out on it, Forever Entertainment is giving you a second chance.

Gematsu reports that Forever Entertainment (which is also working on the remake of The House of The Dead and its sequel) has signed an agreement with G-Mode to produce a remake of Night Slashers for all major platforms. No release date has been announced for the remake, nor have any other details been released.

Apparently the Steam port of Night Slashers sucks, maybe they didn't feel like putting in effort because they knew a remake was coming.

Yea I checked it, it is apparently not even a port and just a Rom Image that runs on a barely optimized Emulator, and on top of that the game runs on "No Gore" Mode with Green Blood etc.

I'm surprised Konami cares about the retro gaming market.

https://sea.ign.com/gradius-collection/177232/news/konami-is-inviting-indie-developers-to-make-new-games-based-on-some-of-its-classic-series

Quote
Konami has announced an indie game contest that actively asks small developers to make games based on some of its classic series, including Gradius, Ganbare Goemon, and many more.

Konami's Action & Shooting Game Contest asks indie creators to plan and develop new action games and shooters based on past Konami titles. The rules allow for creators to make remakes or sequels, they can pick out a single character or mechanic from a past title, or even change or combine genres that may not have been in the originals. Through the collaboration of indie creators and Konami, these new works could potentially become commercial products.

Quote
A video outlining the contest was published by Konami. This contest is sponsored by Konami and held in cooperation with Shueisha Game Creators Camp, a project to support game developers. The contest began September 30 and will run until January 6, 2022.

Konami's specified 80 different games for creators to reimagine, including games from Gradius, Star Soldier, Twinbee, Ganbare Goemon, Knightmare and others. The full list can be found at the bottom of the official entry page (in Japanese).

It comes at an interesting time for Konami as a whole – a recent report says that the company is beginning to refocus on its owned series, and is becoming more open to allowing third-parties to develop games within them. While Konami itself is apparently handling new games for Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill, this contest seems to allow some of its lesser-known or more cult favourite series to re-emerge through different means.

I hope someone made a new Bloody Roar game as well (considering Konami now owns the series thanks to the Hudson absorption)

Sadly it's not on the list, it's pretty much only old school 2D classics franchises. Yie Ar Kung fu is in it though.
So far, I imagine Goemon will be the most popular. There's something called Majou Densetsu too, which looks like the kind of Zelda-like that might have had a strong niche cult (if it was any good). nope, it's weird.
There's a bunch of stuff that feel like Japan-only arcade shovelware from the NES era judging by the titles. Esper Dream, Valley of the Kings King's Valley, Bio Miracle, Mad City, Moai-kun, Nicole the love warrior, Dream Penguin Tale... and a handful of shooting games. I mean, who wouldn't want to jump at the chance to remake unique titles like Force Gear, Space Mambo, Falchion, Gunsite, Gyras, whatever they are ! There's just so many choices.

edit - found what King's Valley was, this looks like it has some serious potential for a modern horror archaeology game lol. Nicole is a weird-ass Zelda-like.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

I can't believe we're in a timeline where Yier Ar Kung Fu can have the SF2 treatment.

And I actually recommend you to try all these games, they're all pretty good.

And BR's situation is not as easy, because the series is co-owned by Eighting, who developed the games (Hudson was the publisher).

Nah, I'll wait for indie devs to pump out the remakes under Konami's offer.
