Re: A new engine FEO (Fighting Engine Online) like Mugen with multiplayer network.

May 11, 2010, 06:28:04 am View in topic context

what modes?
are chars transferrable from mugen to this?

I am not attempting to create ANOTHER WANNABEE mugen clone instead I am creating an easy online 2d fighting engine. It is a shame that nobody has created one, yet. Many mugen clones have failed and none have created a playable online version.

You can actually play against anyone and also chat.
The chat is just an extra feature.

I bumped this topic, I hope this is the right choice.

I am back after working on another project actually a RTS GAME.

I am about to complete the online features of FEO.
Now, you can challenge anyone from anywhere not only LAN! No game lagtancy. I am still working on the online protocol.

You can download the demo and see how it feels.
anyone from USA so I can test it with someone remotely?

IF the electbyte team has really returned doesnt make sense creating a clone of mugen but diffrent engine is a better idea.

I am glad u are not planning to quit

I tested a collection of mugen chars in ShugenDo and there are for least 100 bugs i found.

There is still a long way to become a 100% mugen characters compartible engine.

I think before adding new features you should focus  on the compartible of the engine with mugen instead of MAKING NEW FEATURES

I prefer the real street fighter iv instead of a mugen one.
Because it is 3d and shaders, and online and the current mugen doest not support these features.

So why you waste your time?

It is possible to make the winmugen.exe file online.
A video driver could be coded and a memory hook system.

The problem with this system that it wont feel smootth when making moves. a connection  more than 100ms will be annoying.

@ becoolnike
Hi, i'm very pleased to talk with the creator of FEO.
I've send an email at the address written in your profile with some questions about your engine: I'll be so grateful if you can send me the answers so i can "spread the (good) word" about your engine.
and what about the googlecode homepage? are you still using it? last update is from 2007.

@ felineki
Thank you so much for your infos but i've some problems with jap (my girlfriend is studing it, but she is only at the first year :D) and i can't find how to write at SofiaCat with the "interview questions" about his/her project. can you help me with this? i can send you the questions by PM.

@everyone
this idea of setting up an updated list of all the mugen-compatibile-engines all around the world was started by Lasombra Demon on Randomselect, and then i decided to give my help.
Anyone who wants/can help this "project" is welcome.

byeee

I replied your email already.
I haven't update the google code portal recently because i dont see the need for it. Altought I have made huge changes to the engine since one year ago. Ill update the portal this june with something worth ( a online playable version).

Thanks for asking

Yes, pcx uses compression algorithm called run lenght plus index table.

pcx take so little memory,  and they are real fast to load because they their colors are in a index tables what we call a palette.

For example, if you convert a image pcx to jpeg or bmp the final image end being 2 to 5 times its orignal size.

Are people releasing less mugen stuff than two years ago?

Maybe i am wrong but 5 years ago when winmugen was released i saw people creating alot of mugen stuff like characters, stages, screen packs. Two years ago people were still releasing quite alot of stuff but i see people have decreased releasing new stuff. Maybe because most of the popular characters are already created? and they do not want to reinvent the wheel?

I do not think the sff file takes so much memory and space.
They are in fact on of the images  file format that takes less memory to load. And they very quicky to load them.
Thats why electbyte choose the pcx format instead of the jpg, png, bitmap ect.

the sff  file format is just  pcx files ( index images , 8 bits).

It takes about about 10kbs to load a 128,128 pixel image.
The only problem with the index images like pcx 8 bits is that they are not supported on new video cards.
But they can emulated using pixel shaders. But the pixel shaders effects doest not work the same way on all the supported videos.

I am not sured if you can use pixel shaders on psp undergroung dev kit

Correct me if i am wrong

This engine clone is getting quite stable, but there are still many bugs to fix.

Once the engine is 70% percent stable i would like to port to unmanaged c++.
The reasons are:
1. There is not need more .net framework so it can even run  on windows 98
2. XNA's video driver's are too much. It requieres Pixel Shader 3.0. I have a core dual vista pc and cant run it.
3. unmanaged c++ code is more portable than managed c# code
ect..

What is the licence of this project? zlib?

Thanks

Managed code is quite incorpartible, but if you know well a unmanaged programming language like c++ and a C# you can port it to a endless number of systems even for iphone. For instance, i could port this system into c++ and directx in less than 2 weeks.
If anyone interesting on it. PM me

But making this systen online will be almost impossible,  i have experience developing networked games.

The reasons are :
1: Mugen  object's system not in a a networked format.
2. The collision boxes are not in a networked format.

Mugen's objects and collision system can be changed, but it will result a not compartible version with previosly versions.
So, it is more easy to code a new system from the scratch than  making mugen online.

And I am person with expericend making online games thats why i decided to make my own online engine
