I feel I wasted my time with this team, even if it happened long ago it all settled this way. The personal dissatisfaction of things I sprited. The feel of the lack of recognition for the work I have done, not only for this Gohan but for Freezer as well:

This phrase is what struck me and reminded me why I shouldn’t keep doing Teen Gohan:

“A Capcom styled Freeza, entirely sprited by the amazingly talented Balthazar.”

This is a typo, same is said with Goku and Gohan.

Still, some things don’t make me feel it was an honest mistake, I remember the team’s actions after I first published Teen Gohan’s outlines didn’t help at all, immediately muting me, doing like nothing happened and trying to put the issue under the rug. If I was pushing they could have just tell me instead of doing what they did. Their actions killed my interest.

I would have shaded these sprites myself at a later time, that was my original plan, but the uncertainty of not knowing if they get revamped at a later time, making me feel I wasted my time shading them, again, as with Freezer.

I pushed for Teen Gohan to revitalize the paused headswap of a project that was Adult Gohan. And in my geeky opinion, his Teen version is the best version. It isn’t like both versions can’t co-exist.

…I’m still puzzled to what I did to trigger that attitude against me after I published Teen Gohan’s outlines, I remember trying to start conversations with no avail. Me, one of the first guys to really help them with another full char.

Another example, the youtube trailer which featured Freezer I wasn’t mentioned, and yes I’m disappointed about it because doing full chars takes a lot of time and dedication, but I bet the other guys did a greater work than what I did, that really must be, or that I was expendable.

And yes, that was not the only example where I was let out, they made very clear to me I wasn’t part of their team, once they started revamping my work:

I was active at that time and everything was ok, Freezer was originally my project, Teen Gohan debacle happened shortly after around that time.

As I said, I’m still puzzled.

So no, even if I try to finish this char I simply can’t, I can't push myself into finishing this. Even if shading sprites is way easy for me, I really want to get rid of this wip, my only goal was to see Gohan on a video not to play as him. Is bizarre, I know, but I can’t take mugen as a genuine piece of entertainment. Good if you enjoy it.

Me bumping and venting about old issues will not automatically grant this char to be coded, in fact I’m sure it will drive away potential coders, but I want to give personal closure to this failed project.

I’m just tired of waiting, trying to convince coders, realizing coding for mugen isn’t worth it. And this bit of attention, even if it was in this manner.

I also did this post to warn good spriters to know who they work with.

I can tell you that my problem isn’t the only one here… according to what I hear from other spriters. My warning is kinda late, but still you have to watch out.

The good news about these full chars is that I didn’t have to partake in Animation 1 class in the college, I went straight to Animation 2. I gained experience with this, not only animating experience. The chars were a small part of my big animation portfolio, all in all, they were traced over other animations.

The other good news is that I have done several non-paid academic projects, projects that are really worth it, after realizing I have other hobbies and that they really deserve my time. I wish to share some of them in the near future with you.

Hi, I haven't posted in a while here in the forum but I have some things to say.

First of all I have a feeling of deja-vu of the forum trying to do a project together, and if I'm not wrong nothing came out of it. I'm not implying that there aren't community projects because there are.

This is a hobbie not a job, so if people want to move on to another thing they will leave at some point.

Don't compromise to revamp FULL chars alone, even less in SF3 style, I tried to do it and realized that it was too much and it was not worth it. The amount of time and dedication to create a char is just too much, let alone the amount of frames and how detailed CPS3 style is.

Aim just for few animations, you can do a set of animated stances of Darkstalkers chars in CPS3 style, teach your process and that would be ok.

Problems are that you will be working with designs that aren't yours (silly me saying that in a mugen forum), but you are aiming for something very polished and nothing can stop CAPCOM from doing that same idea and rendering what you did obsolete.

And it's not only the feeling that you aim to do something as "official" as possible and knowing that it's not still enough for the big companies, if you aim just for mugen you still would need an income for your work, you could open a Patreon and given the situation unless you do something really unique or +18 it wouldn't be enough for how taxing the project would be. Revamping the sprites of a game that already exists isn't that unique, given that Morrigan has already a stablished moveset and you won't change that. I personally would aim to mod CPS2/CPS3 roms to include new sprites rather than do it for mugen, if modding is possible.

You know my background, the things I have done, the projects I started and let die, the ones I finished and are either not being used or end up leaving me with an empty feeling, foolishly enough to believe I was doing something official or that couldn't be replaced... those are on me because these were my ideas, ideas that I let go but are similar to yours, SF3 full chars. Even then, the requests and commissions I did for people are the best things I ever did. (Luckily enough I still get commissions that give me the same ammount per payment of what I would receive monthly if I opened a Patreon, huge frames for animations. That and an academic project.)

All in all I'm not telling you to quit or to stop spriting, I'm just saying you that you shouldn't bite more than you can chew and less for free, unless you have a faster technique like rendering 3d models into sprites. As I said if you want to do only a set of DS-CPS3 stances that's ok. But if you want to do your own full char or full game aim for something original: your own OCs, story, universe, in CPS3 style if you want and people will follow you for that unique idea. Like perhaps an OC that could fit in DS/SF universe and then you expand on that.

This is only a hobbie, you are a great animator, give it a better use.
