Injustice is made by the same developer as Mortal Kombat.  How is that in any way relevant?  It doesn't matter what Netherrealm thinks about using MK characters, they're not the ones calling the shots.  This is a Nintendo game we're talking about.  A different company in a different country with a different core market and demographic with a different ratings board to answer to.

And that still doesn't address the fact that an MK character, stripped of literally everything that makes an MK character interesting and iconic and reduced to a barebones set of pure functions, would be boring as fuck and please nobody.  Non-MK fans would wonder who this generic ninja with a generic set of ninja moves is and why he's there, and MK fans would be pissed that Scorpion had to have a babality performed on him just to get in the front door.

Yes, yes, it is technically possible for a moveset to be created for an MK character in Smash.  That was never my point.  My point was that if they took the time and effort to strip away everything they had to to make the character CERO compliant, they'd also be removing anything that would make them unique from other characters already in Smash.  As I said the last time this discussion came up, it's be an immense amount of hoops they'd have to force themselves to jump through only to wind up with a heavily diluted version of a character that Japanese fans mostly wouldn't even recognize and Western fans would find generic and uninspired to play as.

On another note, a Bowser's Fury spirit board event is happening now.  Get your kitties and kaijus before they're gone.

That's the thing of it, though.  Without everything that makes Mortal Kombat what it is, I don't feel like MK characters really offer anything that would be particularly innovative or interesting in Smash Bros' style.  At least nothing that Ryu, Ken, and Terry aren't already bringing to the table.  Take away the ultra-violence, the brutalities, the fatalities - retrofit everything in Scorpion's kit to be CERO-friendly and you're left with some pretty generic moves.  Fire breath.  Tether grab.  Teleport kick.  Nothing that someone else isn't already doing.

I mean, if you want an example of how milquetoast a defanged Mortal Kombat experience can be, look no further than Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.

Sakurai has never said anything specific about Mortal Kombat to my knowledge, but there's no reasonable reason to expect they have any sort of chance of getting in.  When you combine the fact that MK isn't published or sold in Japanese markets and how they'd have to strip away everything that makes an MK character an MK character for them to fit with the Smash Bros tone and rating, you'd wind up with a heavily watered-down version of a character that Eastern players wouldn't know or give a shit about and Western players would be disappointed in how they were represented.

Doesn't Heihachi have some kind of weird "get-young-again" potion that he uses to make himself as physically fit as he was in his prime?  IIRC that's what they used to justify using his young appearance in Tekken Tag 2 and PSABR.  I'm not particularly well kept on my Tekken lore so I can't remember if that's a canon thing or not.

Fair play, but Geese doesn't really have that one substantial feat.  True, he survived falling off a skyscraper that one time, but then later he fell of the same skyscraper and died, so it's kind of a wash.

I think this is going to be another one that comes down to the volume of lore and reference material to draw from, like Scrooge McDuck/Shovel Knight and Samurai Jack/Afro Samurai.  Just by the very nature of how the two series' are written and handled, Heihachi has had a lot more opportunities to demonstrate things Geese doesn't have a counter for.

Eh.  General idea was right, some odd choices is all.  So yeah, they gave Lex the defense of Hal Jordon by relation to Larfleeze, so there wasn't a think Doom could do physically to hurt Lex but it just didn't matter in the end due to what Doom won with.

To be fair, the mental gymnastics of "Lex Luthor is singlehandedly as powerful as the entire Green Lantern Corp. because he fought against Larfleeze one time" was never going to stand up to any kind of scrutiny.

And Nightwing beat Daredevil.  And Aquaman beat Namor.  And Shazam beat Captain Marvel.  And Wonder Woman beat Thor.  And Booster Gold beat Cable.  And Batman Beyond beat Spiderman 2099.  And Static Shock beat Miles Morales.  And Doctor Fate beat Doctor Strange.

And that's just limiting it to DC vs Marvel matchups.  Green Lantern vs Ben 10, Flash vs Sonic, Black Canary vs Sindel, Joker vs Sweet Tooth, and Raven vs Twilight Sparkle all went in DC's favor too.  It's insane to suggest they're biased against DC when it's actually exceedingly rare that a DC character doesn't win in Death Battle.

If DB's commitment to showcasing each character at the absolute height of their abilities holds true here, then I can't see Luthor having anything that even remotely counters God Emperor Doom from Secret Wars.

If anything, I bet the final DLC fighter will be a swordfighter because Nintendo has the tendency to order Sakurai to put such in. There was a small talk he had and he reiterated once again that Nintendo is the one who has the say on who gets in Smash, not him. So if they want to put another sword user in, he has no choice but to comply.
All things being equal, I don't think that it's Nintendo's intention to include a lot of swordfighters in Smash because they're swordfighters.  It's more likely that Nintendo wants a lot of big recognizable characters in, and it just so happens that a lot of big recognizable characters are known for using swords

I honestly don't see any new Pokemon rep taking either final slot.  The DLCs so far can be more or less categorized into highly popular and iconic 3rd party guests (Steve, Terry, Banjo & Kazooie) or promotions for the biggest and most recent 1st party games Nintendo wants to promote (Byleth, Min Min, Pyra/Mythra).  The Sinnoh remakes might be big for Pokemon, but they're not necessarily a priority for Nintendo.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong.  Who knows?  I don't have a horse in this race anymore anyway.  My hopes and dreams already died alongside Travis Touchdown, so I'll just enjoy whatever the rest of the DLC ends up being regardless of who it is.

^ I don't know about a new Pokemon to promote the new remakes.  For all intents and purposes Lucario is the Gen 4 pick and he's already in.

Twins are ok.  Mythra I can see performing way better in competitive than Pyra, but both are proned to being gimped.

IMO, they feel more like they're designed to be played in tandem from the get-go.  It's not like Melee where you're either playing as Zelda or playing as Sheik; to get the most out of them you should be playing both.  Fight with Mythra, kill with Pyra.

I'm not so invested in Gen 4 that I'm gonna be super picky about it, but this remake is looking rough, graphically.  It's like they were aiming for a fusion of Link's Awakening and Sword/Shield and somehow managed to do both of them worse.

Pokemonster Hunter looks like it has promise, though.  An actual open world to explore and track down Pokemon feels like a natural expansion from what people wanted the Wild Area to be.  I wonder if the battles will be real-time as well.
