Thoughts on the Winter Season:

In/Spectre is somewhat ok. I'm still not fully committed to the show because there's nothing hooking me in at the moment. It feels like Gegege no Kitaro except with a crippled waifu  as protagonist instead.

Keep Your Hands of Eizouken is by far my favorite of the season. An anime that's a celebration of the artform itself is always cool in my book and they knock it out the park every episode. I think my favorite thing is them using their voices to make the sound effects for the animation sequences.

My Hero Academia's had one hell of an arc. Still recovering from it too.

Chihaiyafuru 3 managed to up end all expectations and made for a compelling drama last arc too.

Yeah. That's really it. I'm kinda interested in watching Interspecies after funimation dropped it because it was too raunchy, even for them. That means it has to be good right.

Since it a weak season I've been planing or rewatching a few favs that getting sequels soon. Re/zero is an easy one since there doing a directors cut and I was going to rewatch it anyway. Yahari Ore is coming back after a long hiatus so I needed to jog my memory a bit. Almost done with season 2, but I remember liking it better than 1 and that's still true today.  I might rewatch Thunderbolt Fantasy because why not. My memory of s1 isn't that bad, but who doesn't want to see those merry band of dicks just making fun of Shun-or-whatever-his name is again.

Might also plan on a rewatching Stand Alone Complex again as insurance, just in case the Netflix one sucks. Speaking of which, I'm cautious optimistic about it and don't quite hear the monkey paw's finger curling yet. The only upsetting development is no Yoko Kanno ost.

I haven't been watching much of the seasons offerings, but managed to see some movies in and out of theaters.

Promare: It was Trigger project through and through. Zany character designs and frantic action choreography. Plot trajectory is a bit predictable, albeit it really not that big of a deal in something like this anyway. Had a fun time watching it. If there was any minuses it's that the CG wasn't up to par and there's a whole lot of it. This bothered me because of the Xflag BBQ's involvement who were in charge of doing Monster Strike the Animation anime series; they're probably the studio who the closest to getting the CG anime look and feel down, yet I think Trigger had much more influence on this.

Konosuba: The movie is basically an entire arc and a continuation of the show. Everything that makes the show great is present: lecherous humor, great comedic timing and wonderful cast synergy. Essential viewing for fans of the TV series.

Saga of Tanya the Evil Movie: It's an okay movie and follows all of the plot points established in the TV series: nazi loli overachieves, gets screwed over anyway. If you want a good drinking game, take swig every time Tanya says "commie". Also did they really have to name the Mary Sue character Mary Sue?

Not a movie, but Chihaiyafuru is still the best sports anime ever. I don't care what you say. Card slapping is a damn sport.

Catching up on new season:
Mob Psycho 100 season 2 is off to a strong start. Never expected them to dig so seriously in to Mob's characterization early on; the show did a good job of developing him as a character in such a short amount of time. It looks like Bones is having a grand time with the visuals this time too; most of the episodes have looked fantastic with episode 5 being the icing on the cake. I hope they didn't blow their load early on that one because that would be a shame.

Rising of the Shield Hero -  I thought the initial premise was an interesting way to start off the series to set it apart from other isekai shows, but it looks they might not keep the falsely vilified thread from going much longer. Shield Hero is moderately entertaining though it hasn't yet been memorable for me. It's going to be a two cour so they plenty of time for the show to develop so I'll keep watching it anyway.

Kaguya Love is War - entertaining romcom even though the punchlines seem a bit predictable.

The Promised Neverland -  A very strong thriller so far. Definitely one the stronger series this season.

Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka - somewhat decent dark magical girl show. I appreciate that the story takes place after they stop the big alien teddy bear apocalypse and now to deal humans being terrible again when the dust settles. Does a much better job of portraying someone dealing with ptsd than it has any right to and is very violent.

Virtual-san Looking - This is such a bizarrely awful project that I just can't stop watching. Most of the skits fall flat, the camera work can sometimes be nauseating and they're probably too many characters. None of them are particularly  good comedians either. It feels they stitched together a bunch of youtube videos to make an episode and given the origins of all these characters, it's quite fitting. I guess there a slightly diy feel that makes the show somewhat charming. Also no Kaguya Luna? Why!

Cardinal Rule of manga - every manga artist has made hentai unless proven otherwise.

Here's a friendly reminder that if your not watching Thunderbolt Fantasy, you're missing out on a visual masterpiece. Add some more puppet on puppet violence in your life; you won't regret it. (Yes it's anime, don't question it).

The trailer looks like it's going cover a good bit of stuff from the comics and what humorous stuff they show off isn't that far removed from what happens there too. That doesn't inspire much confidence, yet not put off by it either.

Dorohedoro TV Anime in the works.

This is some good news. The fact that the manga is heading towards its conclusion means it could get a full adaption (not holding my breath for that one). Really needed to continue reading this, but maybe i'll just be lazy and watch the anime.

New Netflix "anime originals" Altered Carbon, Pacific Rim, Cagaster of Insect Cage, Yasuke and Trese.

Quote
Pacific Rim, which expands the world of the two live-action movies of the same name, returns to the epic battle of Kaiju and Jaegers. The original anime series follows two siblings — an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister — who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. Co-showrunners are Craig Kyle (Thor:Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution). The series comes from Legendary Entertainment (Kong: Skull Island; Pokemon: Detective Pikachu)

Set in the same universe as the Netflix-live-action sci-fi series — which is currently in production — Altered Carbon
will explore new elements of the story mythology. The series comes from the animation studio, Anima and will be written by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and Tsukasa Kondo.

From the animation studio Gonzo (Hellsing, Afro Samurai), Cagaster of an Insect Cage  is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease “Cagaster” turns people into giant murderous insects, this manga-based series follows the struggle of a young couple to stay alive. Koichi Chigira (Last Exile, Full Metal Panic!) directs.

Set in a war-torn Japan of mechs and magic, Yasuke follows a retired ronin who must take up his sword when he is charged with the task of transporting a mysterious child who dark forces want to eliminate. The series from the animation studio MAPPA will feature the voice of Sorry to Bother You star Lakeith Stanfield as the titular protagonist, which is based on the historical samurai of African origin who fought with Oda Nobunaga. Creator/Director/Executive Producer is LeSean Thomas (The Boondocks, Cannon Busters) while the Grammy-nominated Flying Lotus will compose the music and serve as an Executive Producer.

Trese  is set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings. This anime series is based on the Philippine graphic novel by the same name, created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldissimo. Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman, The Legend of Korra) will serve as Executive Producer. Producers are Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment, a studio based in Jakarta and Singapore.

Most interested in watching Yasuke to see how one of LeSean Thomas's anime projects finally get a complete release, not to mention Flying Lotus doing the scoring.

Thoughts on this season's offerings.

JJBA Part 5-
Spoiler: It makes me feel sooooo horny! (click to see content)

Goblin Slayer - I'm just happy that the internet is happy about this adaption because if they weren't this Fall season would've been miserable. It was hard to be surprised by how brutal the show is because of how people were constantly mentioning this fact, yet I will applaud the staff for going as far as they did. My only dislike is the rpg-esque dialogue that creeps in, especially since the show just appears to be a fantasy and neither an isekai nor game world.

Reincarnated as a slime - I like the idea of an isekai with a non-human. It reminds me of I'm a Spider So What, but I can tell that it's not going to share Spider's struggle of starting from rock bottom. Another thing it shares is the really annoying disembodied voice and talking about the world in gaming terms. The latter is a real pet peevee of mine. The show is just fine otherwise.

Thunderbolt Fantasy 2 - A little too talky for a primere, but there's more potential for more cool things to happen. More puppet on puppet violence is always welcome.

Uzamaid - I already knew what I was getting into before watching this, yet the allure of an ex-military 8-pack maid is hard to endure. Too bad about the lolicon part. I was almost on board with the show until the whole "I only like girls who haven't had their periods yet" conversation started. It doesn't look like it's going to be full on creepy, but it's not a keeper for me. (That 8-pack though).

Double Decker: Doug & Krill - I find this show to be very entertaining as a thinly related sucessor to Tiger & Bunny. The characters are all some what interesting in ther odd-ball way and the show does a good job of not taking itself too seriously. Only thing  I dislike is the transition between 3d and 2d animation during the scenes where the characters put on their over designed work uniforms.

Zombie Land Saga - I watched this one without any sort of anticipation whatsoever so the fact that this was a show about a bunch of zombiefied idols took me by surprize. I'm loving what they're doing with the whole idea and think it's been hilarious so far. Good job Mappa, you got me to watch an idol and a zombie show again.

Bunny Girl Sempai - This just feels like a -monogatari clone to me, not that that's a bad thing. It's certainly has my attention.

SSSS. Gridman - This one is alright so far. There nothing particular about this show that makes me super excited to keep watching it. It feels a bit more subdued for a Trigger project and there's the distinct feeling that not all its cards are on the table yet. I'll keep watching.

Skullface Bookseller Honda-san - It's just a fun workplace comedy short.

Started watching some summer stuff:

Gave Asobi Asobee a shot despite looking like another cutegirlsdoingcutethings kind of show which I wasn't in the mood for at the moment. Despite the sappy (but very catchy) opening it's a very off kilter comedy with a trio of charming asshole high school girls. The gags don't ever go where you expect them too and the pay off is usually worth it, for me at least. The sock puppet segments are good too.

Chio School Road has also been an entertaining albeit not as solid comedy. It's gags aren't consistently funny ,but there's always a bit of inventiveness in them that makes me stick around. Mananacchio was the peak for me and I don't know if they'll ever top that one.

Cells at Work has been a very good bit of edutainment(?)/work place comedy(?). I wasn't very good at the whole biology thing ,but portraying the body as a large city constantly being attacked by monsters with blood thirsty soldiers at ready to defend it seems like an apt idea. I much rather David Pro keep this going longer than doing Golden Wind, don't @ me.

Hanebado has been fine so far as a sport show. People seem to react negatively to immense amount of drama in the show, but I doesn't bother me much. A few of these characters probably do need some therapy. The visuals have been mostly above average so far and do a long way in selling the intensity the sport. Never cared this much about Badminton before watching this show.

Not much to go on as far as  what your tastes are, but I could recommend Psycho-Pass based on the Death Note mention. It's a decent thriller. just don't bother with the second season.

You might want to check out From the New World as well. It a great sci-fi/psychic thriller when it gets going.

Seems like they'll give everything a shot once, so it could happen eventually.

Speaking of isekai, I did watch episode 1 How Notto Summon a Demon Lord and didn't hate it. Just seems like a lower level attempt at what Overlord is doing. I could watch it for kicks ,but since Overlord is coming back this season I rather use my isekai slot on on that instead.

So I'm a Spider,So what? is getting an anime adaption. I read through the first couple of volumes and really loved it. The aspect of the protagonist being reincarnated as a low level monster that basically has to use her wits and power to not get murdered by all manner of monsters and people make it for me. My only pet peeve is that I could do without the videogame mechanics and just have it be a standard fantasy.

Every once in a while, I entertain the  idea of rewatching Wing just see how it held up since I first watched it on Toonami (don't remember a damn thing though). Not 48 episode curious though. I'll be content rewatching the OP's for the umpteenth time. The Endless Waltz's gundam designs were neat at least.

Combing through my backlog, I've finally come around to watching Land of the Lustrous. The CG usage in this show was definitely one of the more effective I've seen so far. The gems look nice and vibrant while the animation seems sharp whether it's a hectic fight scene or just simple character interaction. The facial expressions are especially good compared to a lot of the lifeless attempts I've seen in other shows. The characters themselves are alright; I'm assuming that their behaviour is all based on gem characteristics or something. The protagonist felt slightly annoying at the start ,but I eventually did find Phos entertaining. It's also hard not to feel a bit o empathy when Phos keeps biting off more than they can chew. The story is fine, yet it's basically the first act of potentially interesting series. I'm sure there's a bunch of symbolism in there that I'm missing out on and should read up to get clearer picture. A sequel would be nice, but etc. etc. etc.
