I didn't. I just recorded some videos on the game and then I redraw the sprites with Photoshop (not all the sprites, just a few).
Wow, that sounds like so much work! And yet you claim to not be an artist, LOL.

By the way, I have resized her head and feet to give her a more childish appearance and be more similar to characters like Yuri or Athena. What do you think?
Looks good! Though you haven't resized the whole thing to be the correct scale yet.

I haven't worked on a KOF XIII sprite in ages, so I thought I'd give it a shot. This is incomplete (haven't touched the boots/hat/belt) and is in no way an indication that I'm going to do the whole sheet:

What I did was resize it, touch it up a bit and added the missing shades. KOF XIII has 7 shades per color and works mostly like this:

From darkest to lightest:
      - Lineart for shadowed area.
            - Fill for shadowed area (and linear for light area).
                  - Transition to light area 1.
                  - Transition to light area 2.
            - Fill for light area.
                  - Light area mild highlight.
                  - Light area bright highlight.

It was a LOT easier having the light source already pointing from the correct direction and the shaded and lit areas so well defined.

Not sure if you used a program to have the shadow/lights separated so clearly, but if there's a way to tell it to add two extra shades between the shadow and light, most of what would be left to do is to do some basic clean up and add highlights, which is a lot less time consuming.

Or, you could leave it like this. Right now it could sort of pass for a Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax sprite. :)

I'm more of a purist, so I would just update what needs to be updated and leave the rest un-touched.

I would just add push-blocking, introduce everyone who has been added in later titles (Gambit, Rogue, Sabretooth, Apocalypse, Cable, Marrow) as well as new characters.

I would then maybe balance the damage (it was a bit extreme in COTA) and give some characters some well needed extra moves (Poor Iceman still had only one super move in MvC2)

I don't care much for guest characters, but I wouldn't mind either.

BAM

Looks REALLY nice, though in a practical setting it might not work very well given the lack of range.

Since he's a cartoon-ish style of character, you can probably get away with a bit of anatomical warping and have him stretch his arm a bit more than normal so his punch'll reach farther (since he's punching with the arm farther back). The other option (which would require fundamentally changing more, so I didn't suggest it as the first thing) would be for him to twist his torso a bit more, so his shoulder is closer to the opponent and his arm has better reach.

No need to apologize. Like I said, I should've stated that in my first post :)

Hi, one question, the sprites here are open source? can I use it for future characters?

Isn't this the whole point of this thread?

It wasn't mentioned in the rules, so I just wanted to be sure before causing any problem

It IS the whole point of this thread and I can't believe I didn't state it explicitly (I suppose I assumed it'd be obvious, since there's a gallery and all, but I still should've). Thanks for pointing it out. I've added it to the first post.

Felt like animating this sprite the other day.

Superb, man. Subtle breathing animations are so damn hard for me.... not a lot of space to move the body parts around (I mean, the character's standing still, so there's a limit to how much he can grow/shrink), but the alternative is little to no movement. You nailed it.

I'm afraid to ask this, but... What if I can't really make significant progress on the character that I'm looking for custom anims for? Like, what if I have a small roadblock, but an early roadblock? In this case, it would be lack of usable anims for (most) normals and (most) gethits. (I could probably cobble together a stand heavy kick and standing/a few air gethits with the spritesheet I have.) The character has pretty much everything else I need for a full character. I just need these few things.

If you're missing "most" normals and "most" gethits, then this isn't the ideal thread for that... it means you never had a full sheet in the first place. The point of this thread is to "expand" existing spritesheets, not "finish" them. I mean this in the nicest of ways.

oh Im sorry, Im still doing the spritesheet.  I'll read the rules and this isn't going to happen again

No harm no foul. I wasn't lecturing you, just offering guidance :)

@Rabano

You need to show evidence that you're far along with coding the character in order to request something. I recommend reading the first post and using this template, which is what most people have been doing:

Holy shit! "Last" as in "you're all done"? or "Last" as in "His FINAL i.e. Ultimate attack"?

Torso looks nice (albeit highly stylized). The legs need a lot of work, tho. They lack a lot of the same definition the top part has (I’m guessing that’s the part you edited?). I would go through an anatomy book and exaggerate everything you see there so that it matches the top a bit better.

Last but not least, it’s not really CVS shading. Looks more like a Samsho sprite or one of those Chinese/Korean fighting games with really good sprites.

Most people find this limitation as obsolete

While that IS true on a technical level, I feel that even on an artistic level there's still a bit of merit to keeping the 15-color limit since having too many colors can also affect the overall "feel" of the sprite. To me certain sprites simply stop looking CVS-ish if there's too much color/detail in them, even if the shading technique is spot-on.

There's also an argument to be made for limitations bringing out the best in design. I find KOF XIV/XV characters to be over-designed. Sylvie and Shun'Ei being prime examples of everything that can go wrong when you design something without any sense of restraint.

It's almost as if the color limitations kept all of the character designs cohesive, no matter how much the designers pushed against the hardware limitations.

Oh, yeah. Your English is perfectly understandable. I doubt anyone would complain, especially if they knew it wasn't your first language. I only gave you suggestions because you asked for them ;)

Hey, happy to help.

For starters, "All right" is two separate words. The non-separate version would be "alright", but it's used in different contexts ("I'm doing alright").

Regarding the first arrow: It's "shooting AT the crowd". I'd change the whole thing to read: "We won't hesitate to shoot at the crowd, either!"

Second arrow: There's nothing wrong grammatically with this bubble, but using "whom" is a bit too fancy, I feel. They don't seem like the type of people to know when to use "who" vs. "whom" (that might be shallow of me to say, LOL. For all I know, they're very well-spoken and eloquent "thugs", LOL). Maybe something like "We're former martial artists who have been defeated by you in the past through cowardly methods".

Last arrow: I'd use "that" instead of "this" right before "cowardly method". Heck, just to not say "cowardly methods" twice, you could say "...I had to use those kinds of tactics".

Hope that helps!

Do you plan to add the manga exclusive "Kholodnyi Smerch"? :D

It would be a badass anti-air (since otherwise, all special moves will attack forward).

It’s really cool seeing someone try a Clayfighter style! I knew what it was right away

Seriously!

My first thought as soon as I saw Basara's project was hoping that someone with decent sculpting skills would be willing to take a shot at making an actual cartoony clay version of KFM. I never thought it was feasible to sprite something from scratch so well that it'd look like it was actually made in clay! This is superb!

Thanks.

With Huitzil essentially being a single color, I felt that it would make sense to add some shading to him as his third sprite color. Maybe I overdid it a bit. :sweatdrop:

You made the right choice.

Hey RedDragonCats17:
     1. The video you posted won't play, so right now it's pretty much a screenshot. That's not really enough evidence (Perhaps it's glitched or still uploading?).
     2. The sprite-set in the video is his CVS one, not his CPS2 one (unless you're currently mixing both somehow...)
