Hey all. Haven't been on here for a couple years, been busy with life and stuff.

I'm in a pretty good place regarding COVID-19, have been working remotely for a couple of weeks now. Not being able to get together with my family for Easter is a bummer. One of my elderly relatives died, maybe of COVID-19, maybe of some other lung-related virus, a week ago, but she was nearing the end of her life anyway. The rest of my family is fine.

Hope everyone here is surviving. I was just passing through, digging something up from one of my old posts, I'm probably not sticking around. It just felt weird to log in after years without posting somewhere, so it might as well be here.

I'm really liking this. I've wanted a good custom Hulk for a long time and this seems really promising.

I spent some time with KOF14 and GGXrd, I liked the first a lot more than I expected to and couldn't get into the second at all. I liked GG back in the day, but the series learned far too hard into the anime aesthetic for my liking. 'Finishing' them is arguable though so let's talk about things I actually finished.

The Fall & The Fall Part 2: Unbound

The first game is a cross between 2D Metroid and a point-and-click adventure, with emphasis given to puzzle-solving and story instead of combat and exploration. I enjoyed it a lot, and though it's pretty short, I recommend it to anyone due to the low price point. The second game changed up the gameplay a lot in ways I didn't enjoy, and dragged on for ages, but was still ultimately somewhat enjoyable.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

Anime wheeee. Got exactly what I expected, no better or worse than other games in the series. If you like Naruto, or want a story-driven singleplayer-content-heavy casual arena fighter somewhat comparable to Power Stone that has literally 100+ characters, it's a decent time. If you want deep fighting, not so much.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

I liked this a lot less than the first game. The plot was contrived, I disliked most of the characters, the murders were stupidly contrived, and it just really didn't ring true to me. Luckily, the Danganronpa 3 anime that serves as a prequel and sequel to this game was a lot better, and I'm still enjoying the series.

The Last Guardian

With all the hate this game gets, I was expecting it to be a lot worse? Outside of one impossible collectible and occasional issues with the camera clipping through ceilings while riding Trico through closed spaces and Trico taking up to 15-20 seconds to respond to commands sometimes, I really enjoyed this game. Like, a lot. The hint UI is another bad point, but... oh well? It looked great, it felt good enough, Trico is easily the best animal companion in any game and when he didn't behave, it felt like it was because he was a living, breathing animal rather than because of bad coding. The emotional moments packed a lot of punch. Wonderful spiritual successor to Ico with some flaws that hold it back. I bet it would have gotten a great reception if it hit closer to its original release window, it definitely doesn't quite feel like a PS4 game.

Devil May Cry 1 HD

What a blast from the past. I did not remember most of this game, and while I felt near the beginning the gameplay didn't really hold up, I got a lot more accustomed to it as time went on and was genuinely enjoying myself by the end. I'm shocked how much worse it was than 3, I remembered them as being more similar. Still, had a pretty decent time with it for a 17 year old game, and will be moving on to 3 SE HD soon. Not 2. No one should play 2.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Perfectly scratched my Phoenix Wright itch. Brilliant music and voice acting. I loved everything about this game and will be diving into the sequels shortly.

(Also I got the Uncharted 4 platinum)

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

It's like Phoenix Wright on crack fused with a dating sim and I'm loving every second of it. Chihiro is best girl.

King of Fighters XIV

Despite getting familiar with the characters through Mugen, this is my first time playing a real KoF game and I really like how it feels. I'm much better at it than I am at other 2D fighters... which does not necessarily mean I'm any good. Having fun with it though!

The Last of Us

Hugely overrated game. Bad, frustrating gameplay. Lots of ladders and hauling on chains to open doors. Who thought this was a good idea?

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D

Still holds up great. Way better than Ocarina of Time.

Uncharted 4

I didn't like this the first time I played it, around two years ago, and stopped pretty early on. I'm not sure what past me was smoking because I loved this game from beginning to end. It's now my favorite in the series, and while my backlog is too big to justify it right now, I'll probably replay it in the future and go for the Platinum.

Observer

Honestly, this was a pretty big disappointment. An amazing premise that didn't deliver, barely had any gameplay and was far too reminiscent of Layers of Fear -- lots of hallways you walk down with crazy graphics, no substantive interactivity. I'd kill for a more RPG-like experience in this world.

Final Fantasy IX

I replayed this recently. Took a whole 70 hours. While some aspects of it are really aging, it's still one of my favorite games ever. The writing still holds up, some bits were even better than I remembered. The ending made me tear up. For me, this is always going to be the JRPG that all other JRPGs are measured against.

Chrono Cross

While I played this a ton as a kid, I never completed it. Now I have. And while a lot of the earlier game is still as good as I remember, the writing in the lategame is some of the most terrible garbage I've ever come across, and it's completely at odds with the tone and style of the rest of the game. It's pointless convoluted garbage that I'm fucking stunned made it into a release this high profile, with writing so genuinely good earlier on in the game. This is the biggest disappointment I've had in quite a while.

Music's still fucking great though.

This coming less than a week after Tillerson condemned Russia for the nerve agent attack they orchestrated in the UK.

One more time for the kids in the back:  Trump fired his own secretary of state for saying something bad about Russia.  Golly gee, that sure doesn't sound suspicious at all.

I too can come up with a random event that happened before another event and claim they are connected.

Did you know that less than a week after Tillerson ate breakfast, Trump fired him?

Trump fucking hates breakfast, guys.

Mario Odyssey

Absolutely fantastic to play, but frustrating to complete. I see what everyone means about too many moons. Basically I had 35-40 hours of fun, but played for 55 hours or so. I recommend getting 500+ moons and doing Darker Side, but not going for all 880 moons.

Um... in what universe did Twelve by Rei come out in January?

Or... this year?

Or... in the last five years?

Maybe I'm just failing at the internet here but I've looked around the forums and see no indication of a new release...

Found it. It's buried in another character's release thread. Never mind me.

Gotenks and Goenitz, but I would have voted for Twelve if I knew it was a real thing before I voted, whoops.

D&D is great, but I think I have too much going on in my life to commit to a game right now. I'm also not in the timezone you're looking for.

I'm gonna keep my eye on this thread in the future though. I'm interested in theory, the timing's just not great.

I don't hate Ivy's design here, and I did in the last couple games.

I really can't quantify that in any way, just, this isn't setting off the same 'this is gross' vibes it did before.
