I doubt anyone beyond Sony themselves has put a second thought to the game within the past 5 years.  But it would be quite amusing if a character transitioned from that game to Smash for the better.

Frankly, I still never GOT why BioShock was in PSASBR.  It was an Xbox exclusive for some time.  It had and has no special ties to the Playstation or Sony brand.  Smash at least evolved into an all-encompassing blanket for all video games of merit, for better or worse on the first-party side of development depending on the individual, it could viably get away with something weird like Master Chief in the game these days, but Sony's Smash clone was by all means intended and marketed as a gated off Sony party.  Even at the time when Smash was considered odd for Snake and Sonic, those have considerably more history with Nintendo than BioShock does with PlayStation.

But I suppose that's neither here nor there, just dust in the history books.

It's Gordon Freeman, Jack Ryan from BioShock, Tetris Block and 5 Dantes from each age he's in in each game, of course.

Actually, joking aside, it suddenly occurred to me how odd the absence of BioShock at all is in a crossover this big.  Like, I don't have actual legitimate expectations of a character or anything that lofty, but thing took over the world from 2007 on for a few years, they had a direct about it and Borderlands coming to Switch.  Should have a spirit or something in here, no?

On the other hand, a successfully made BioShock character for Smash would also just be beautiful schadenfreude against Sony's Smash clone game from a while back, so hey, that'd be neat.

For some reason that pretty obvious fact in hindsight completely flew over my head and I didn't categorize the DS game as a numbered title until something after 13, the 3DS one.  Whoops.

So....it's asking of you to have the attention span longer than that of a knat.  Do a few shake-down combat runs, learn the numbers, get it memorized.  Nothing diabolical.  It's Mega Man.  Like I said before, Metroid, that thing freaking needed you to draw a map out in your notepad to reflect on every now and then.  Pokemon has a plethora of unknown numbers to make calculations in the background that you need to keep ticked off in the back of your head, not that I bother much with competitive.

Like I said, interested as a history lesson/cultural understanding reach-out, not too bothered by ancient gameplay practices, more-so held off by this recent garbage marketing tactic Nintendo's got going on.  Interested, but got plenty of other more interesting things to bother with.

Edit: That.  Exactly, that.  Used to do that, not a bother to me, intriguing if anything.  Excessive hand-holding is more detrimental than anything the challenge would bring to the table, personally.

Also good to know the timeline/interconnectivity, thanks.  3 and 11/12 sounds odd when there's also that DS version of FE 1 out there as well.  Is that a Metroid II/AM2R/Samus Returns sort of deal in the FE community?

That's fine and all in a general sense, I do skip titles that have absolutely zero appeal to me like the MMO Final Fantasies, but this one also has connecting history to another topic of interest to me; why Sakurai finds these things so intrinsically important to Nintendo's history to be disappointed in Smash 64 at their lack of Marth in it and his demand of it in Melee.  This particular game is what he was fixated on, and I'm curious as an outsider what the hell he sees in it.  I can emphasize, being a Metroid fan and that game being hard to suggest the original at the curious, but I don't see the appeal without first-hand experience with the story played as intended.

But I'm also not a fan of this limited time digital nonsense Nintendo's pulling, so I'm just as likely going to skip out on it.  Won't die of ignorance in this case, just grumble at the next Smash FE DLC and wave my cane in the air.

Also wait, how are they all standalone entries when I've been listening for the past six-ish years since Smash Wii U/3DS about how Lucina is directly related to Marth and she has his sword and how that's a Big Damn Deal paying off whatever was set up before about it or whatever?  Surely Awakening is a distant sequel to the first game, in similar vein as to how Nier Automata is to the original Nier?

I mean, how insanely dated?  I still enjoy a go at Contra every now and then.  I'm about as nonplused as you can get at the permanent character losses; unless losing them soft locks the game then I think I'm not gonna care that much.  I'd imagine a character being killed off opens equally new branches of dialogue for the remaining cast as letting them live and interact amongst themselves, or whatever happens in FE games between fights before Awakening.

....Or is that it, is it a continuous string of fight scenarios with story crammed in at the start and end?  That would be annoying, yeah.

Hm...so, I have a habit of absolutely loathing approaching a series out of intended order, so if I'm to play a series I have to start at release number 1 (Reason why Final Fantasy was hell for a while and why I'm likely never gonna play those Persona games).  I am absolutely drained on these Fire Emblem pretty boys showing up in Smash, but in fairness I'd be inclined to see what the big deal is trying Marth's game out.  I've always heard that there's a fanbase split starting with the game that saved the franchise by intrinsically altering it, and Awakening onward is essentially a dating sim to softcore pornography game with a strategy game stapled to the side (Also something about Corrin's game having gay conversion therapy or whatever was in the news a while back).  Three Houses appears to be its own beast but I already browsed the spoilers and it does not sound particularly interesting either so I'd probably be more interested in these older titles, if anything wins me over at all.  But I'm also aware the Smash and fanbase interpretation of Marth and co. doesn't line up with the actual Fire Emblem character much and I'd likely hate everything everywhere like a discount Yahtzee, so there's that.

Now add on top of that this arbitrary limited time exclusivity for no apparent reason, I'm just feeling like skipping out on the whole mess.

So I guess they have a few ways forward from this but the most logical would be to make use of Vegeta's soul sapping whatever skill he picked up and was quite proud of before he got his mandatory beating.  Following that, we COULD have them destroy the Earth.  They have the means to fix it afterwords, but it still wouldn't be an action they would make lightly.

Though it would be amusing if they went that route and restoring the Earth just brought back the Living Planet Moro Earth one.  In fact, wonder if this is just a localized event or we're going to have freaky Moro geological locations around the globe eating people?  I mean, Buu did it already, but that's kinda most of Moro's schtick anyways.

Well, new chapter's out and yep, he spared Moro's life.  Good news, there was some more thought process behind it on Goku's end than just two brain cells can come up with.  Bad news, not enough brain cells for the wild card that all-encompassing "Magic abilities" cover.  Weird news, Moro's now that Green Lantern planet.

I feel I should be more annoyed at this, seeing that's the general online reception, but two things are holding me back.  One, general expectations of Super at this point but two, I do appreciate that unlike with Cell where Goku was leaning on his ace in the hole being his son, someone who's psyche he doesn't know in and out like and act like Goku would assume, he was just clearly aware that the gulf in power was insurmountable between the two that he was free to give Moro this olive branch and be just fine if Moro backstabs him.  Which yeah, that's exactly what happened, back to the Whis lesson.  Even after the red herring of Moro getting Merus' powers screwing Goku over, they go on to show how Moro's having MUI doesn't mean he's well equipped to USE it.

The sticking point for me there is now that we've gone full circle back to Whis' lesson and Goku, having got his mercy offered and rejected, was able and willing and in the process of killing Moro, then they threw in his body swapping technique out of the complete blue and going as far as to count the whole planet as an individual (I guess we're Sailor Moon, now).  You had a genuinely nice if not perfect point to stop at and have Goku commit and reflect on his necessary actions to stop Moro.  Arc's dragged on as is anyways.

Possible upside if this eventually leads to afterlife Ginyu cameo complaining about this oversight of his with the body swap ability.  Also dunno if this was confirmed at some point or we were just lying on assumption, but nice to see the white hair from MUI isn't just a Goku/Saiyan thing, implying that the Angels are indeed just always in MUI, but more importantly, Beerus would just turn into albino peach fuzz if he ever gets it.  Which is hilarious.

They have an official suggestion box that they have linked in the video descriptions of the fights, but I don't know if they'd go for something like that.  They much more prefer fights that have less variables that are impossible to lock down, and pitting solely intelligence versus intelligence is hard to do right compared to "Power level X is greater than power level Y".  Lest you get weird turnouts like Joker versus Sweet Tooth, where every variable says Sweet Tooth dominates except intelligence having one talk the other straight into their death.  They don't even do army fights like they've shown interest prior in StarCraft's Zerg versus Halo's Flood because determining who's the better mastermind between them won't get you anywhere fast, to say nothing of the randomness of army versus army. (Though I'd have to imagine that one's clear-cut Flood wins, I dunno?)

And yeah, I don't think there's gonna be a LOT to draw from with the Sabre Wulf game for KI's character, but it is a reoccurring easter egg in Rare games to have the Sabrewulf character show up in other titles like Jet Force Gemini so I wouldn't be surprised if they acknowledge it in the video is all.  Don't think it'll help his chances much in this case though.

Having not interacted with Darkstalkers in forever because Capcom is a complete tease and won't actually do anything new with it, I don't remember everything that happened story-wise.  Read one of the mangas for it not not too long ago though, maybe about 2 months ago?  Generally though, the Darkstalkers world works with much higher power levels and stakes than Killer Instinct, and Sabrewulf I think just fights based on animal instincts whereas Jon's still got his training on his side.

Rare, or their predecessor company anyways, had another game in the 80's titled Sabre Wulf that KI's character is based off of, dunno how much that'll tie in or if they'd find reason to even try.  Not a whole lot to go off of anyways from what I recall playing of it; you find a blue werewolf while out on safari, you touch it you die.

Ehhhh.....'kay.  I really do not want to know 343 stuff since their, like, entire history post-2010 and whenever Evolutions and Legends came out, so my knowledge of their somewhat tying in RvB to actual Halo canon has been foggy, but to the extent I've seen its just been easter eggs keeping at arms length as possible as to be considered actual canon (Its been years since touching Halo 4's Spartan Ops but I think the Caboose easter egg even has their audio log coming in via wormhole?).  To then just handwave Freelancer as actual UNSC content as fact....besides being a big ol' middle finger to the Spartan-II project and Halo's whole Covenant War lore, at best RvB prior was to be taken as an alt. universe where Spartans weren't a thing, this likewise means they'd need to take real Halo canon lore and stats and whatnot into affect, even where they contradict RvB.

Also Simmon's color change is just a options menu joke, so....like, I get WHY it's included, but it's not like it is consistent to his other reaction times.  Because it's a joke.  This reminds me of their breakdown with Yang, another Roster Teeth character with a joke taken at face value when that wasn't the intention.  Also they literally can not take off their armor by themselves, besides helmets obviously.  No Spartan or Freelancer can, it has to be done by outside help.

And there's the full thing.

Next fight's certainly an odd one.  It's Red vs Blue.  Literally.  It's the Red Team of RvB versus the Blue Team.  I think they're gonna need to explain that a bit more before any conclusions can be drawn, between team members of them coming and going and the tank kinda being alive.  It's been a while since watching as well, no ide what they've been doing since switching to Halo 4 so 8 years behind.

I mean, for the basic guys that stick around though, they're all complete idiots but it'll probably come down to Sarge being kind of an idiot savant with his shotgun or Caboose being a full-on cartoon character and just goofing his way out of situations.

Also as an aside, this is the second episode in a row they had one thumbnail for the episode prior to release then changed it after its out.  Wonder why?  Nothing wrong with either of them before, personally liked both better before.

So I'd just like to go on record that those Creeper and Pig Mii costumes are cursed as hell and are a sign of the End Times.  That is all.

But for real, the Bomberman one is a prime example of when the cosplay costumes work perfectly.  That might be the one time I'd be interested in trying a Mii character out, to play as him.  It'll hold over until wanting him for the next game.

Because then I'm going full wish mode and wanting him to show up with his Bomberman Quest outfits as alts.

What else, precisely, were they supposed to pick the player play as rather than the Player Avatar?

Look, I get that Steve has nothing to go off of by himself, in comparison to other mutes already in the game (Link, Red, Leaf, Animal Crossing Mayor) Steve intentionally doesn't exude personality because of the game's intentional limitations and a lack of outside resources like official comics or novels.  But they're the one that actually makes USE of the tools and environment that makes Minecraft memorable.  As I said before, the Enderman skin is already bizarre, and my time with the game is comparatively very short with most others who are into it, because that's not what Endermen do.

And the idea of the other iconic mascot to the game, the Creeper, offers considerably less options as anything beyond a joke character because its whole essence is it blows up killing itself if anything comes near and it dies easily.  Even Piranha Plant branched out in other Mario games to composite into this Smash character we got.  A playable Creeper is basically asking for playable wild Voltorbs and Electrodes from Pokemon.

Minecraft's general blank ambiance and its music selection having to be hunted down on discs and returned to your home to even listen to, I didn't hear much of the game's original soundtrack.  Just "Cat" and "13".  Was the trailer stuff from Minecraft or something newly done just for Smash?

I do legit think that will have valuable consequences with the Smash game following this, likely also contributing to guaranteeing Banjo and Steve's return if Microsoft and Nintendo remain all business buddy-buddy as they currently are while pushing for some new character from a franchise Microsoft acquired.  But I agree it is far too late for this DLC pass at the minimum, and more likely this game as a whole.  While I like the idea of them just updating this one game until heat death of the universe like some have pushed for, I think both Nintendo would want to upgrade at SOME point and Sakurai either retiring or just wanting to start a new project, even if it's another title in the series.

I'm not familiar with Herobrine, my playthrough earlier this year had nothing to do with it.  Looking it up, it appears to be nothing more than a local legend to the Minecraft fanbase, not even actually incorporated into the game itself, and as a skin its only difference between it and Steve are white eyes which are mostly ignorable in a fight and not helpful to the actual reasons for these outfits; to stand out from one-another.

Including it would be akin to if they went with Master Chief instead of Minecraft here they had a Mister Chief skin and the Halo stage incorporated Megg.  Neat deep cut reference, not particularly helpful.

Also R.I.P. Master Chief.  Not that it was likely, but add another notch against him with now needing to be a third Microsoft rep instead of hypothetical second.

Alright, that's a good character choice.  And I feel slightly smug at trying the game earlier in the year for the first time in case Minecraft showed up here, so yay.  Now I can get the references

Few nitpicks, why the Enderman skin?  Endermen are a good 3-4 feet taller than the Player, have dislocated jaws and generally don't interact with the world as a Player would, a skin playing as one of them is odd.  They'd be better off as their own thing as an assist trophy and if a fourth skin is needed then go with a Skeleton or Piglin, who act more in line with the Player.  And not really a negative, just mild surprise that they didn't aim to replicate Minecraft: Story Mode's character animations and instead went to mimic the base game as nearly as possible.  Not unusual, SF characters attempt to mimic SFII the most, just thought they would like the additional bit to not make them.....stand out so oddly to the rest of the cast.  But probably a moot point, Minecraft anything will always look out of place against anything else.

But yeah, overall cool, this one I'll be happy to check out.

Thanks, now Steve is just adult Bobby Hill to me mentally.

The point wasn't the viability, it was the interest from Nintendo in going down promoting a series they can not advertise in their own country.  Of course there's video game history behind the series that would make nearly any mainstay MK character a worthwhile addition but it doesn't play nice with Japan's laws.

Which sometimes makes me wonder how anime classics ever got off the ground like Akira or Ghost in the Shell, anime by and large to a good number equates to "the excessively violent and sexy cartoons" but that's a whole different, broad topic.

That said, it surprises me just from the huge influence MK has had on video games in general, they don't attempt to give Japan altered censored versions.  Hardcore fans are gonna import anyways and I thought they did that with China to begin with.

In other words, what Person Man said.  However, counter to the wider market; Banjo & Kazooie and Terry.  Those are both niche markets whose inclusion is pretty much there to show to a new, unfamiliar audience.  It'd just again be in reverse, Japan would be the one not really in the know about MK stuff. (That seems to be the case with Banjo's rising Japanese interest ever since his Smash addition.  It's freaking bizarre seeing Grant Kirkhope chatting with Japanese Twitch streamers under anime girl vises as of late, but bizarre in a neat way seeing new people playing for the first time there)
