The good old man is complete! (Kinda)

This project took longer than I had in mind, personally I do still feel that there is more to do. (Some sprites are overscaled, others aged poorly and half of his pants are unbearable as I progressed it.) but had to accept it or it would go endlessly.

CVS Gouken has beyond 500 key frames in the main file and over 600 with animations.

My main intent with this project was to bring him as close as possible with his pupils and young brother, part of it somewhat works, others doesn't look as good as I wanted.

There are some missing details here and there that will be eventually added, (Dizzy, interactions and other state effects) and some minor issues that were partially corrected due to my lack of attention.

The following file contain the main spritesheet, uncorrected parts in case is needed (Overscaled sprites) and animations for reference.

There may be some errors in the pallet, but should be minimal.

These Update Gouken Sprite are beautiful! i am glad you are able to harness your skills!
Thanks! it was your work that inspired me to move this idea.

Gouken looks solid as hell!

Out of curiosity, do you have plans to add some extra animations like Advancing Guard or Spinning ala VS Games?

Gorgeous works so far!

For now I will take a break, there is some minor misc stuff missing here and there but nothing big, eventually I will add cool things but overall he should be a well rounded fighter.

CVS Gouken is complete. lacks some minor polish. (some frames are inconsistently big, etc but that should be done in a few days.)

Great work Benhazard! Did anyone already declared his will to code a playable character using these outstanding sprites?

Two declared their intent to do.

Near complete, felt some improvements as I moved it (Started doing 12 frames per week, to doing 75 in two, plus better notion on some minor details.)

I have unfortunately failed in completing Gouken before my own stipulated deadline. There are still two key blocks to complete it. (Around 90 frames left)
I'm a bit disappointed myself as I expected to deliver more in fewer time, for Gouken, this is what it's missing.:
-Amaroshi
-Raikotokyaku
-GoHadouken
-Hadouken
-Senkugoshoha
-Tatsumaki Gorasen
-Hyakki Shu
-Max Shinkuu Tatsumaki Kyodaina (70%)

It should be done in January but after that I will take a short break.



Sad that Hit is likely cancelled but really happy to see more gouken progress. Everything looks great!

To be honest, I would find to be far more interesting to write a "what if DragonBall GT Novel/fic" than do another character. (Even tought I'm not a professional writer, there are many ways it could be salvaged or maded interesting to read)

Tbf, the palette you are using as default works fine overall with a pretty close CvS-esque feel, I just took a route directly referencing colors for the game and working how most colors would look in an official CvS setting for Gouken so isnt that different  :smash:

Main difference would be the skin tones tbh, so yeah, see if you like the default attempt or if we should give it a try again!

For the record, the reshading is incredible like holy shit, it is so clean in comparison to the previous one  :o

Gethits are basically done, lacks state effects and redo the dizzy animation.

Minor Topic update

Thanks, finally, it's getting there. (Basics plus Default movest is fully complete)
I'm still not fully satisfied with the result to be honest, some parts need to be corrected as noted by Diepod.



Other than that, I'm conflicted bettwen "pacthing up" some animations or moving towards the Christmas meta goal. (In this case, trying to do the miracle of CS him to add the Santa especial.)

Also, a missing topic, some people talked about the new Gouken pallet, but I forgot to say that this is just a metric pallet to use for reference.
I didn't set up how his default pallet would be. So if anyone have a good suggestion, be my guest. XD

Don't look nothing like the original KOF sprites.
When they used 3d models to do this, sprites were touched up.

All you've done is ripped or grabbed and Angel model and put some shading on it.
If you modeled Angel thats a decent model of her but again its hard to pull of the effect your trying to achieve with no touch ups or spriting skills.

The ability with render modeling is still a desireble part. althougth the extra torture hell mile (Manual post work) would be desible.
Still, it's a ability I want to learn if time wasn't finite. for a good amount of projects, this is a underrated gift. (Like Yumurama for example)

The only thing I think that could be done is keeping only the Key frames to avoid excess.

Gouken Basics are finally getting near complete, lacking crouch and air only. After that it's finally the fun part. (Specials/supers)
And will be missing the part that the majority hate to do (gethits). And the old version will be finally complete.


For other projects, I don't discard continuing it although I will likely Redo it as the old isn't good enough. Would also relearn to code as I'm not into MVC so much. (Go trown rocks at me) as it's better to start anew. Or somewhere in the future.

Hi there, it's been time. I've been completing Ash and more stuff has been done. I'm working in cosmetic stuff(intros etc), but I'd like to announce that I'm lazy-converting Shiki. Nearly all the basics(walk, stand, jump, etc) is finished. I mean, lazy ocnvertingbecause I'm not resizing her at all, just reshading the whole thing for quicker translation and for a more solid result. I'm using the CSed sheet 2Dee4Ever did and the only "new" thing I'm adding are the black bands in her arms(as in SS2020).

Hmmm... Why would you need to change if you were to re-scale Shiki? (Just out of curiosity)

yes, after the core part, I do plan to add more content, in particular intros but may as well aceppt sugesttions.

anyway, halfway done, lacks the second moveset and specials. and the other hand, Shermie is near 55% going a bit faster than Gouken.



other than the cleanup, going to add part from SNK heroines moveset as well.

Good stuff. I think Gouken's far knee kind of pops out on a frame there.

Man so many of those snk to cvs conversions need touch ups like this.

Thanks, I'm still returning to study art, one of the issues I haven't figured out how to fix yet was the knee, in part due to my first atempt at redoing the stance,, then combined with pratice from posing this punch from SF4 into CVS like.
this is what I could do, but when I did try to fix his ankle, I got a weird effect on the animation, this is the best I could do for now. (will figure it out)

did some minor adjusts to the basic chain, althought it's not perfect yet. I need to pratice more drawing neck.


Done basic air to, missing only close jab and left air punch to it.

Now I have realized that the only part of the old Gouken spritesheet I haven't uploaded to DA was the kick moveset, still doesn't matter as much as I redoing it anyways. =P

Forgot to post the transition anim, also, basic combo is near done, lacking only Standing Close Heavy Punch.
