So I guess this is what I do now. Vanish for years, come back here to post another pie-in-the-sky idea and then vanish again.

Guess I'm just not cut out for serious projects, huh? :(

Anyway, two more stupid ideas that are never gonna get made. Enjoy.

Spoiler: Untitled Concept (click to see content)

Also, if I ever do come back here for real, I'm probably going to drop Capcom vs. The Universe and work on KoF X The World instead. I'm honestly not interested in the former anymore, and the latter sounds like a better chance to do cool things with the standard KoF gameplay. I'm already rejiggering the roster yet again to try and be more "realistic" (lol, as if), so if I ever decide to make a proper return I'll be sure to have something solid I can commit to.

Rivals of Aether
Holy fuck, am I bad at this game. I really don't like how jumping is a seperate button and there's no option to map up on a control stick or d-pad jump without sacrificing the actual up command. I can kind of understand the reasoning, since it's hard to approximate tilt controls on a keybad, but coming off of Smash Bros. this feels awkward and janky for me.

That said, game is a blast. Mostly been practicing with Kragg and getting through the story mode. The one time I went online I got absolutely trashed, so I dunno how often I'm gonna go on there :P I don't like how stages are locked off behind coins you have to earn in-game, but I'd rather this than lootboxes any day. Also got the Clairen and Ranno DLC since that's super-cheap.

Then's Fightin' Herds
Holy fuck, am I bad at this game. Been mostly going through the arcade mode - done Arizona and Oleander. I reckon Arizona might be my main, since she feels like the most straightforward fighter to use. I feel like the inputs for Level 2 supers might be a bit fiddly, especially with Oleander - I couldn't pull off her Level 2 no matter how hard I tried. Haven't hit up the online scene yet, I'm scared of what I'll find after the RoA experience.

Also I've been staring at Paladins again - I dropped off after an initial period of casual matches about a year or so ago. Apparently they got rid of the Cards Unbound thing that turned the game into a Battlefront II-esque pay-to-win grindfest and skewed the fuck out of the game's balance. So that's nice. Still haven't actually played a real match since, though.

Monster Hunter World

Working towards a Pukei armour set, although I think I fucked up by going for Jagras Strongarm at this stage. Keep hearing people saying bone stuff is the way to go, at least for high rank, but I think bone anything looks ugly as fuck so I'm reluctant to do that. Also I'm still learning shit about the Charge Axe that I didn't know about, so I'm gonna keep playing around and seeing how I can incorporate it into my playstyle.

As someone who's played older Monster Hunter games, the quality of life changes are a godsend. Item Wheel is a little bit fiddly, but I'll work it out. Also the grappling hook is p. cool. If only I knew how to use it in actual gameplay :P

Owlboy
Just started the plot for real on this one. Gorgeous pixel art, makes me think of Metal Slug and how difficult it must have been for the developers to pull that off. Not as much to speak about with gameplay, except it's surprisingly difficult - there's some enemies that require you to drop your partner and hit them with Otus' spin before you can harm them, and that seems a bit unfair. I'm stuck on a miniboss room full of the things and it sucks.

Otherwise, great game so far. Kinda hate how Otus gets mocked by everyone but a few characters, though.

Been playing a whole batch recently, so this might take a while:

Pokémon Sun
Been playing this on and off, mostly because I am angry that Ultra Sun exists and want to justify not buying it.

Still a good game, despite all the constant dialogue checkpoints.  Abused the hell out of Island Scan to get a Cyndaquil and a Venipede, and have been steadily progressing through the second island. Gladion went down like a chump, and the Totem Wishiwashi took one Thunder Wave from my Pikachu and proceeded to eat shit becuase it simply couldn't move. Currently trying to train everyone to around Level 18-20 to catch up with my Torracat, who kind of flew ahead of everyone else in levels. Use Pokémon Refresh, guys, it's important.

Also, when the hell do I get Poké Pelago for my PokéBeans? Because people have been talking about it and I still can't access it.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Not usually into tactical RPG's, but the innovations this one makes, mostly in movement options, makes me happy. Mostly been rockin' Rabbid Peach on my team for the heals and specializing in the Honey effect to keep enemies where they are. The Rabbids are surprisingly restrained here and don't annoy me like they usually do, so that's a bonus. I can't say the game is really funny, though - it made me chuckle once or twice, but nothing really tickled my funnybone so far. I think I might be getting too old for that weird and zany kind of humour.

Which leads me to...

Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People
Currently on Baddest of the Bands, having done a mostly 100% run on Homestar Ruiner and sped through the critical path on Strong Badia the Free. And I have a lot of thoughts on these games, so sit down with a cup of coffee :P

I start to wonder if maybe I'm too old to appreciate Homestar Runner anymore. Because as much as I like these games for taxing my brain and all the weird puzzles, a lot of the humour doesn't make me laugh like it used to. The writing here is still top-notch, but you can tell TBC had someone looking over their shoulders, since a lot of the dialogue comes off as stilted and, dare I say, forced. There are times when a joke drags out and it makes me roll my eyes, or a character delivers a line in an unnatural way that takes me out of it, and I feel this didn't happen when I first played the games back on WiiWare. The humour comes alive when you manage to pull off a big plot-important quest, but a lot of it just feels like padding, and wherever you find it funny or not really depends on how willing you are to tolerate characters with such extreme personalities. To say nothing of the inherant problem of the player character being Strong Bad, who's whole shtick is being obnoxious and grating. Which is a shame, because I still enjoy the writing, and an adventure game is the right sort of format for these characters to bounce off one another.

That being said, I was using a guide to go for the 100% runs on these things, and I admit that with zero shame. Because the developer who decided you needed the hints turned on to trigger the event that raises one of your arbitrary stats needs to be slapped. That is the worst game design, and I probably won't bother from here on out. Optional costume items don't seem like that much of a reward for rambling around a blank green field with a metal detector.

Mighty Gunvolt Burst
This game is a huge embarrasment for Mighty No. 9, because this is the game Mighty No. 9 should have been, IMO. The bullet customization and Burst Combo system is the evolution the Mega Man-style gameplay needs, and everything from level design to boss patterns actually has some thought put into it. It feels like an actual Mega Man game rather than a pale imitation of one. And with Beck being a playable character, it makes me look back on MN9 and wonder why, if the talent was clearly there, that game couldn't have been this.

That said, I'm still a scrublord who keeps dying over and over. And I can't understand why the game would make you pick a reward when the boss' element weakness chart is still a thing. Surely they should just give you the elements as standard?

Alright, so it seems from the poll that the 3-Button style is what is preferred. I was intending to switch to that style anyway, even though I personally like the Smash style more, so all future characters will be created in that style.

Keep an eye on my projects thread for further updates and character progress!

UPDATE: The following changes have been made to the 3-Button version of Ryu:
  • Errors with Shinkuu Tatsumaki fixed.
  • Corner Push added to Launcher to prevent infinites.
  • Aerial knockback values on Hadoukens changed to prevent infinites. Also, only Hard Air Hadouken causes a knockdown now.
  • A bunch of other minor things I can't remember.

Download the update at the usual place!

Can you elaborate on how it "doesn't work right"? I'll need to know exactly what the problem is so I can fix it. Other than that, I'll look into those issues ASAP.

Also, I'm restarting the poll. That joke option should not have gotten three votes, honestly - I shan't put one of those in again. :wall:

Holy crap, you just keep blowing me out of the water with these things! I usually try not to do anti-aliasing on the bars in case it causes trouble with the colour pallete, but you clearly don't seem to have that fear :P

What's your secret, man? How do you get things like that to come out so good and... not like a cheap art project like what my efforts usually look like? And how do you do that transparent effect?

Apologies for the constant double and triple-posting, but I want to give a few updates on here concerning several things.

Firstly, Ryu is now in a very beta phase in the new gameplay style, with almost all the special moves implemented. Still to go are Light and Medium variations of the Joudan Sokutogeri, two more Supers and general tweaks to gameplay and visuals. I'll put up a beta release once he's done to have people test him out and give feedback on what I can do to improve the gameplay system overall.

Secondly, I've been working on some concepts for the screenpack, although since I'm not great with photoshop they may not come into fruition at all. So far, all I have is a logo and a shitty select screen concept. Enjoy (nor not :P)

Spoiler: Bad concept images! (click to see content)

Finally, I've been going through the roster (again), and I've realized that there's too much representation of fighting games on the Universe side, rather than all kinds of media that it should be. So I'm going to be fielding suggestions for characters in Capcom vs. The Universe, particularly on the Universe side - I would like to keep the character count to around twelve or thirteen a side, barring any extra characters like Final Bison and Nightmare Geese. So fire away, guys - the only stipulation is that the character needs to have sprites that would fit in with a general Capcom aesthetic. And whilst I'm about it, I'd like to share my own wishlist for characters I would like to put in here:
  • Kamen Rider Fourze: Any Kamen Rider character would do here, but I figure that Fourze would probably be the most interesting character to do because of the wild variety of moves his Astroswitches could afford him. His Character Power would allow him to switch fighting styles by swapping out the Astroswitches in his belt, allowing him to access new moves with different properties. He would probably serve as the rival to Batsu, allowing me to swap Heita Zinnai out and find some other obscure fighting game character to put in his place. The only issue I have is that whilst a Kamen Rider Fourze character exists, the sprites are atrocious and not what I want in the slightest.
  • Jason Voorhees: Everyone's favourite(?) undead machete killer, Jason would not only add in some movie representation to the game, but would be a spice of horror in an otherwise goofy and colourful cast. I had a movelist concocted for Jason when I was planning out SNK vs. The World, and I'm fairly confident that I could adapt it to the 3-Button system of CvU. His special moves would not take great inspiration from MKX, but would be more focused on referencing the movies. His Rage Attack/Ultra Combo would cause a Fatality if it killed the opponent.
  • Tifa Lockhart: Because I don't know shit about Final Fantasy, but I know a lot about Tifa. I am aware that Hatter is working on sprites of her, and wherever she would be included or not would most likely depend on when the sprites get completed or not. She'd most likely be a rekka-based character or a pseudo-grappler, to contrast with the vast majority of shotos in the cast.
  • Link: As a huge Zelda fanboy, a decent Link in MUGEN would be a dream come true for me. Unfortunately, I'd want to use Adult Link, and the only sprites that were done of him were done by chuchoryu - and I do not think very highly of his spritework. Unless somebody offers to touch up those sprites and animations, this can only be a pipe dream for me, unfortunately.
  • Mega Man X: This is a no-brainer, since the original Capcom vs. The World had the original Mega Man and Memo's CvW2 looks to have Mega Man Volnutt in. Again, this is a mad pipe dream, since I have no idea of the status of RamzaNeko's Mega Man X, and MetalWarrior has said he's not working on updating those sprites anymore. Sigh... a man can dream.

Whilst I'm rambling, I'd like to welcome Mai-Ling of Red Earth to the roster, and may also replace Ash Crimson with Vegeta as a more fitting rival to Akuma. KoF is getting the shaft a lot in this game, isn't it? :P

So yeah, fire away with your suggestions, folks. I'm wide open!

Okay, so coming back to this, I've made an important desicion: The Smash Bros. style gameplay isn't working out how I wanted. True, it's easier to code, but it means character will play very much the same and combos will be very fixed, which isn't what I want. As of now, Capcom vs. the World Alpha will be returning to a Three-Button System of , and , with an S button for Unique Tactics. This will allow for characters to be more flexible and varied, instead of sticking to the rigid structure demanded by the previous control scheme.

Some other changes to note:
  • I finally have a name for this game now - Capcom vs. The Universe! Cheesy, I know, but it works :P
  • Unique Tactics won't be managed by a separate bar. They'll function more like V-Skills or Character Powers from Injustice, in that regard.
  • Rage Mode will be dropped in favour of a Tekken 7-style Rage Attack. I don't like how I blatantly copied Rage Mode from BC's SF4 characters and would like to try and distinguish my own style from this mechanics.
  • Running/Dash attacks will still be in. Some of them may OTG.
  • Light or Medium crouching normals will be the go-to OTG to continue combos, similar to MvC2/MvCI. There will be a system to prevent infinites, so no need to worry about that.
  • I may include Darkstalkers-style projectile priority to make things more interesting.
  • Alpha Counters, Push Block or Guard Cancels?
  • The Ukemi system may be dropped, on account of me being cack-handed at coding. If anyone can tell me of better ways to code it, let me know!

I'm currently reconsidering a lot of the roster, due to these changes. Here's my thoughts:
  • Kyo will most likely be dropped from the roster to bring Jin Kazama back, since the new 3-Button system will allow me to more faitfhully recreate Tekken gameplay. Also, I don't really like Kyo as a character.
  • I have no idea wherever I should keep Tron and Arthur or replace one of them or both with Mega Man or Mega Man X. If I included one of those two, they'd play closer to MvCI.
  • Morrigan is also a good candidate for a Darkstalkers rep alongside Felicia or Hsein-Ko. It helps that she has CvS-style sprites of her done already.
  • Would Tiffany be a better choice than Batsu?
  • What can I do for a Resident Evil rep? Jill? Mr. X?
  • I honestly can't choose between Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Ermac for a Mortal Kombat rep.
  • I'm considering dropping Thor for Iron Man, since the latter is more recognizable.
  • I'm wondering if it's possible to edit Skullomania's sprites to create Kamen Rider #1, for an surprise rep on The World side.
  • Anime character???

On the subject of characters, I'm open to the idea of other people making DLC characters using the same style. So if you're that upset about me dropping Kyo, feel free to try and recreate him yourselves :P

Also, here's an updated list of UT's.
Spoiler: Unique Tactics (click to see content)
With that said, I'll most likely start updating my Ryu to accomodate these new changes. Stay tuned for more...[/list]

Sorry for posting again so soon, but I didn't quite want to give up on that second concept I made. So I did some tweaks, added the powerbars and some text stuff.

Again, if this isn't to @Memo's liking, I'll just hold onto this and use it for something else. If people are interested, I can also supply the .psd file so they can make their own changes.
