Not sure if this was intentional, but holding down during the second portion of the L or M versions of Floating Wall Jump while close to the ground will cause Reimu to prematurely cancel out of the second part of the attack's animation, even before the hitbox comes out. Depending on the timing and spacing, this can make the second hit extremely safe or the 1st hit extremely unsafe.

"Taoist Politician"
Toyosatomimi no Miko
Species: Saint/Hermit (former human)
Ability: Ability to listen to up to 10 conversations at once
Sprites courtesy of Blade/DarkArt

Story: The true identity of Prince Shoutoku, a Buddhist politician who served as regent under Japanese Empress Suiko during the 6th & 7th centuries. While she was a public advocate of Buddhism during her time, she had practiced Taoism in secret in order to attain immortality and become a celestial; she eventually achieved this during an experimental procedure that sealed her in the Hall of Dreams' Great Mausoleum, which eventually made its way into Gensokyo once her legend began to fade from memory. She considers herself an advocate of humans and has even considered becoming an administrator of the Human Village, an act that many youkai in Gensokyo consider to be the greatest threat to Gensokyo's balance of power. She shelved the idea for a while, that is, until the recent incident with the appearance of the mysterious black fragments all over Gensokyo; could the power behind these fragments be enough to establish humans as a force to be respected in Gensokyo, as well as the key to finally becoming a celestial? The opportunity to attract more human followers in her religious rivalry with Byakuren and Reimu was too good to pass up.

Development: Miko was someone who I've always wanted to work on, and in fact was the original inspiration behind the Type-β Alignment in Incident Zero. Miko's development progress has dated back to at least 2019. I was originally going to use the same sprites Etoile used, but I've shelved her several times mostly due to inconsistencies in most of her sprites, and ended up working on other projects in the meantime, namely Sumireko and Nitori. Codewise, she's about 50-60% complete, but the inconsistencies in the sprites started to catch up with her until I decided to contact Blade/DarkArt to redo her sprites from scratch, basing them off of her sprites in 13.5, 14.5, and 15.5.

Moves:

Specials:
  • Wishful Soul of Desire - //
Miko's charged B projectile from AoCF, originally one of her Specials in Hopeless Masquerade. A mid-range projectile that begins to chase the opponent once they get close to it. Button press determines the initial angle of the projectile.
  • Cipangu the Golden Sword - // (Air OK)
Miko's 4c from AoCF. Unlike the source game, this attack counts as a melee attack now, and takes heavy inspiration from its directional counterparts from Hopeless Masquerade, thrusting the swords in different directions based on button press. Can serve as an anti-air, or cause groundbounce or wallbounce, depending on the version used.
  • Lasers of Seventeen Articles - //
Miko's 6c from AoCF, which performs a sword slash before firing beams of energy from the gap created by the slash. The slash counts as melee, while the lasers count as projectiles. Button press determines the startup, damage, and width of the laser spread.
  • Benign Rain From the Shining One - //
Miko's 2c from AoCF, summoning several swords above her that fire at a downward angle. Button press determines the angle of the swords, which indirectly affects the distance travelled.
  • Influence of the East - , //
Miko's 8c from AoCF, sets up a stationary ring projectile that differs in size depending on the button press, but has a blind spot on the inside of the ring that the opponent can safely stay inside of. Miko can move while the ring is active, but disappears if she is hit.

Unique Skill:
  • Tenfold Listening
Originally one of Miko's Specials from Hopeless Masquerade, it has been repurposed into a Power Charge mechanic, allowing Miko to use her Spellcards sooner. Can't be used if Spell Trance or Spell Overdrive are active, though.

In addition to the above system changes, we also agreed that ground teching in general was in need of a buff: As they are currently, they preserve the momentum of the last hit, so they're not too useful for mitigating the pressure this game has. In addition to making the recovery command much simpler to execute (hold any attack button instead of pressing two attack buttons), characters will now be able to tech forwards or backwards depending on directional input.

Though Yuyuko and Yukari are special cases due to their tech animations, the same general behavior should be consistent with all characters

In the same vein as Yuuka, Yuyuko is the next "lower tiered" character that will be getting a few buffs. Though not as drastic as Yuuka, it should change her quite a bit:

  • Rebalacing of her existing Normals, plus a new Command Normal to improve her combo game
  • Lance of the Swallowtail Crest Z version now hits OTG
  • Fixed a major bug in Ghost Butterfly that made the velocities inconsistent when used at certain distances
  • Eternal Wandering has been completely redone from scratch. While it still retains similar behavior as before, it is now a much more consistent pressure tool.

In addition, Yuyuko will also be getting some prospective system changes to address two common complaints with the game, which will eventually be added to all characters once we feel the changes are sufficient:

  • Throw tech window is now 15f (up from 7f), making teching throws much more lenient
  • The addition of Character Combo rates to limit just how much damage characters can do. The exact details of this are still being worked on, but it should cause combo damage to no longer be as absurd as they are currently.

So now v3.0.0 has been out for a month and v3.0.1 was released not too long ago, I think now's a good opportunity to go over what's in store for the game's future:

  • Major tweaks and/or revamps for some of the lesser used characters, namely Yuuka, Ichirin, and Chen, as well as others yet to be determined
  • Two new possible boss characters: EX Yukari Yakumo and EX Lie Meiling
  • Inclusion of predetermined character-specific Arcade mode routes, so different characters will now have different final bosses
  • More focus on story mode dialogue, including character-specific Arcade intros & endings

Regarding the first point, a rework of Yuuka is already under way and may be available to the public within a week or two, before being included in an official game update. Just a highlight of what she's now capable of:

  • Removal of 360 & 720 motions. All of these will now be replaced with half-circle motions
  • Yuuka's two primary command grabs, Soil Tilling and Creeping Thyme, have been merged into a single special move. In addition, Yuuka now has an optional follow-up move to these grabs that allows her to launch the opponent
  • Flytrap now puts the opponent into a special dizzy state that Yuuka can easily follow up from, rather than putting them into a crumple state
  • Flowers in the Wind has been completely redone from scratch and is now a DP motion
  • Removal of Thorny Rose and the addition of her Flower Parasol Charge special from IZ Yuuka, giving her a much better approach tool
  • In general, Yuuka's command grab supers are now much more flexible and can be used in combos under the right conditions

There was a minor corruption in the Full download for 3.0.1 that caused certain character's graphics to become corrupted. The file has been reuploaded with the necessary corrections.

Users who updated the game by applying the 3.0.1 patch to a preexisting installation of version 3.0.0 are not affected by this.

Since this thread was dug from the grave to become the de facto Floyd protests thread, went ahead and changed the title to reflect that.

You're welcome.
