Quote
Batman actor Kevin Conroy has died at 66 after a "short battle with cancer," his representatives confirmed on Friday. He was best known for voicing DC's iconic superhero in Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham video games.

After starting his career on stage (he played Hamlet in 1984) and showing up in TV shows like Dynasty, Another World and Cheers, Conroy was cast in a career-defining role as Batman, with the animated series kicking off in 1992.

"Kevin's warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever," Andrea Romano, the director who cast Conroy in the role, said in a statement.

He also played the superhero in DC's followup shows Batman Beyond, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, in addition to several animated movies like the incredible Mask of the Phantasm. He portrayed a live-action version of the character in the Arrowverse's 2019 Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

Earlier this year, Conroy wrote a deeply personal story for DC Pride 2022 comic anthology about how coming out as gay helped him find his voice as Bruce Wayne's alter-ego.

I'll admit I only saw clips of the Animated Series, but I remember him from playing the Arkham games as a teenager.
Maybe like I did with Berserk earlier this year, now would be a good time to watch the animated series in full, in honor of his memory.

Cancer can feck off

Is there anything that I miss out on by not learning how to work with the DooM engine?
I've been messing around with BUILD to create my own custom Duke Nukem 3D map and in some ways it seems simpler to use.

Aside the 8192 sector limit, is there anything that the DooM engine has that BUILD can't do?

After today, I got my second playthrough of I Wanna Be The Guy done and compared to File 1 (my 'revisit' playthrough from earlier this summer... after giving up on the game 8-9 years ago) I think the death count is a little improved.  There are still many sections I have yet to master and bad jumps/RNG are always a given.

Also, as of a few minutes ago when I got the final secret item, I should probably consider IWBTG to 100%-ed now.

What are some of the best fighters for Super Nintendo/Super Famicom?

I've evaluated (emulated) Street Fighter II:Turbo and Super Street Fighter II:The New Challengers, and find myself split between the two in terms of sound design (Not a fan of the OST in SSFII and Guile's voice sounds wimpy) and overall features. (SSFII does have a few more modes of play...)

Also tried out two of the Ranma 1/2 fighters, specifically Hard Battle (Bleh, those two button controls) and Ranma 1/2: Chougi Ranbuhen (Slightly better feel compared to Hard Battle) and lean slightly towards the SFC one.

I'm aware that some fighters released around the SNES era might be clunky compared to modern doujin and mainstream fighters and vary in game mechanics, so there may be some adjustment required on my part.

tl;dr Tried a few SNES fighters and is curious to know what are some of the best ones out there.

Hardest parts of the time trial were quickly disposing of the Secret Skedar army and of course, the Skedar King himself.

I've seen a few videos where people bombed the green Skedar cages with Slayer missiles and a couple of Devastator grenade rounds, but that didn't work well for me.  Somehow, a couple of Skedar would be around.
As the Skedar King himself, I had issue lopping off a couple of the 'weak point' crystals.

Still surprised I still got this cheat, considering my time was 5:31:10.

Now, with all cheats now unlocked, only two bonus levels left to beat on Perfect Agent before I can consider
Perfect Dark (N64) 100% complete.

Perfect Dark (N64):
When I finally found a v1.1 cartridge last month, I made a vow to myself that I would beat the last five challenges without using the 'exploit' (specifically 26, 28 and 30).
Needless to say, I beat 26 and 28 legitimately a little while ago.
But it felt like a intense struggle for survival then.

#26 feels a bit cheap due to the simulants 'accuracy' with the Reaper and Cyclone guns.  Most that one can do is have one of those weapons in arsenal and check all sides when holding a hill.

With #28, on the other hand, it's a luck-of-the-draw scenario.  You just have to hope the briefcase placements are in your favor.  Even then, there's nigh-impossible task of surviving against the DarkSims.

The AR-34 is the only weapon you have in the challenge that is capable of bringing them down and the only strategy I can come up with disposing of them in this challenge is going full-auto by holding down the 'Z' button when the DarkSims speed into view.

That said, #27 is a nice breather challenge and #29 is surmountable thanks to the little 'hiding hole' trick.
Wish me luck with Challenge #30,
@OrochiGill.

Dude why are you asking me? o_O

I have no idea. I've never played any of those games. I don't play horror games in general because I'm a huge chicken.
My mistake, then. I thought you might have been a horror game fan and for some reason, I also recalled you mentioning that "Fatal Frame is THE scariest horror game series" in an old topic I made a long time ago.
My mistake, then

I used to have a bad habit of staying up until 5 AM as a teenager, but after a fainting incident in 2013, I tried to get on a better sleep schedule.
But recently I'm fallen into a habit of staying up until 12:30 AM, so not much of an improvement I guess.

Silent Hill 2 (PS2, black label)

After trumping Fatal Frame 1 & 2, I thought this would be a cinch.
But instead, this adolescent hype machine of mine beat me into the ground until I wised up and strategized.
Enemy and boss encounters now felt a bit tense and any carelessness would ultimately come back to me in the end, with total damage values in 800-1000 range.

Conquering Silent Hill 2 also required me to make up a mock walkthrough for myself, memorize the game's few "dungeons" and experiment with the gameplay.

After a few attempts, I got into the habit of keeping two seperate 'starting point' save slots (1 - Before Pyramid Head chase. 2 - Before Doorman (or Eddie) battle).  In a pinch, I found that you can grind some kills by intentionally screwing up the 'innocent man' puzzle, because the game will spawn some spitter guys in the hallway outside.

The only toss-ups are the Eddie battle (I beat him once w/o taking damage in one botched 10 star attempt.  Possibly luck that time) and the janky-ass boat section.
People have found a few exploits with the former, but I can guarantee you'll incur SOME damage fighting the pudgy psycho.

@Mgbenz:
Out of curiosity, how are Fatal Frame 3, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill:Downpour?

Well, this is nice.  Booted up my DVD recorder to find that the remote has suddenly developed severe lag problems with the IR sensor.

I'm looking into recording game footage again.
Found this pre-owned DVD recorder at the local computer recycle faclity last Saturday and signed it out for free after I finished volunteering last night.

Only have an S-Video cable and a ton of composite cables sitting around at the moment, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for component cables when I go back to volunteer again this Saturday:

It only supports DVD-R, DVD-RW, regular DVDs and CDs though, so it's kinda basic.  But it should be better than that the cheap Diamond video capture device I used before.

I think I should find a new hobby to invest in.  All I get from writing nowadays is procrastination and too much 'anticipatory' anxiety when I try to get into a groove.

Nearly four years of trying and nothing substantial has ever come from it...

Perfect Dark(N64):
I've had this for a month and I'm not enjoying as much as Goldeneye.  Though the upgraded AI is welcome, the game feels more hard than "fun" like its spiritual predecessor.
In fact, most of the levels just make me want to clear them, do the time trial and never return.  I get a distinct lack of charm to the single-player levels.

Also, 3 of those final 5 multiplayer challenges reek of unbalance.
Challenge 26 has those annoying Reaper-accurate Simulants, Challenge 28 is a first, bitter, taste of those DarkSims,
and Challenge 30 keeps feeling like an exercise in agony.
So in an uncharacteristic move, I decided to save my sanity by giving in and performed the 'challenge clear' glitch.

27/30 challenges beaten legitimately (Well.. maybe not. I used the 'hidey hole' trick to beat Challenge 29) is a good number.

@Orochi Gill: Did any of PD's challenges give you any grief, or did you have little trouble beating all 30 challenges?

Started looking through my game collection for games to sell, and I'm on the fence about a few particular games:
-Final Fantasy X (hardly played it. Only obtained the game because a late family member wanted to try the games)

-Pokemon Colosseum (I don't have any of GBA games, so I can't transfer Pokemon like I can with Stadium on N64.)

-Final Fantasy XIII (same situation as X)

-Blazblue: Continuum Shift vanilla (the ownership of DLC
characters holds me back for some reason. I have no attachment to Calamity Trigger though)

Other than those few, I'm fine with the rest of the stuff I'm liquidating.

Arcana Heart 3(vanilla):
After watching TBFP, I decided to revisit this one and the lack of play time shows.  Since I've only played it on-and-off since 2011, I don't have a specific Arcana that I like and Zenia is about the only
character I get a okay feel from (Guile/Elektrosoldat type commands).

A few trophies also seem insurmountable, specifically "No, I Expect You To Die." (I always end up getting an orange or green bar on the charge meter during Zenia's CH) and "Atatatatatatata" (My button-mashing is fine for games like MGS, but how do you expect to do the ultimate version of Akane's CH without a turbo controller?)

Fatal Frame(PS2):
The final boss, Kirie, was a bit of a letdown considering all of the build-up the game gives her.  Easy to Zero Shot.

Otherwise, the game was an interesting experience ---- just not exactly a "piss in your pants" one.  More often than not I would either be startled or going 'What the hell?'
Enjoyed the strategic combat system, even if it tore me down frequemtly for trying to be a "pro" and Zero Shot every attacking ghost.

...and considering the endgame unlockables, Fatal Frame has now been upgraded to 100% run status.

I'm just looking for a concrete explanation why I had that weird dream and I refuse to accept that this:

...was the cause.
I mean, whenever I have a strange dream or a nightmare, I'm always curious to know what the hell was that? and what did I do to trigger this dream.  Like a couple of nights ago, I had this bizarre dream about my deceased grandmother, where I accessrf one of her social media accounts and found posts from her that openly criticized my hobbies and my current lifestyle.

In that case, I chalked it that particular dream up to being a unconscious reaction towards my continued reluctance to (truly) forgive her for all the wrongs she did to me emotionally –– not viewing TieTuesday and Smite's let's play of a Kunio-kun game.

And I'm sure that my therapist –– provided he wasn't on holiday vacation now –– would tell me that the dream was a result of random things flowing through my mind during the REM sleep cycle.  But my final thoughts before I fell asleep consisted of “Should I bring my PS2 along to the Christmas party and show Outlaw Star to my cousins, or should I just focus on 'upgrading' us up to the Gamecube (Every time I've showed at my uncle's house, we've been stuck playing an N64)?”

I'm just trying to piece everything together so I can get this off my mind.

I just woke up from a weird dream where someone posted a topic saying that Jango (under his previous handle "Jango Hakamichi") was dead.  The dream skipped to Jango himself tearing into the would-be troll and the topic being shit threaded.
Then on the 384th page of the shit thread, some MFG members (I recall Red and Bastard Mami being there) wondering "where the hell Saohc was".

And the other usual suspects, Trinitronity and JAG weren't behind it either.  Just some random no-star asshole user.
A shame I couldn't post because I was logged into my account in the dream.

I honestly don't know how playing Yoshi's Island late at night would have triggered this either.

Metal Gear Solid (PSX):
My time for the Big Boss rank run got screwed by having the game paused while I took a phone call, so I'll have to do a fourth playthrough on this file sans that that bonus tuxedo outfit.
I still hate that tank boss battle though.  Had to reload my save file (BB rank requires no continues) quite a few times.

*sees rank screen*

At least my kill stat was below 25.

Metal Gear Solid (PSX):
I take back my previous bitchboy whining about it lacking MGS2's enhancements because the gameplay is still good, even without the FPV aiming.  I'm finding the game surprisingly short as I attempt a Big Boss rank run.  But maybe that's because I'm using the stealth camo and bandana items.
