For some reason when I try to use mugen (or Beats of Rage) I have a problem with my controllers. The player 1 controller reads as player 2 and I have to fight from the left side of the screen and there is no player 2 capability. But when I use my controller for PSX emu and other emulators the controllers work properly. I'm using a playstation 2 controller and a controller usb adapter. The adapter is made by BNS USA this is the name of the adapter's driver installer universal PS2. I have restored default setting to the controllers in control panel.

How do I get my pc to read my controllers properly so that controller 1 -> slot 1-> player 1 and controller 2 -> slot 2-> player 2 correspond to each other.

Did you set them up properly in the Options -> Input Config?

Yes, I have set up the controll config inside of mugen. This is a new problem my controllers have worked with mugen before with out any issues but now there is some sort of confusion.

I'm having the same problem, could it because I'm using Vista? Though I do have compatibility mode on. Every time I play it forces me to be player 2 and I have no idea why, is there a way to change this please? I can't see it in the menu.

EDIT: nm got it fixed ^_^
