When my character tries to block while flying (no gravity, you can move freely in any direction), he falls to the ground.  I looked through the common1.cns file and figured out that it's because he's in the air, so State 120 (Guard start) puts him into the regular jumping guard state.  I want to make a separate guard state for flying by overriding the common guard start, but I can't figure out how to alter it so that it won't just pile it into the regular air guard.  Thanks in advance.

I think I'm sure that you can't change guardstates; guarding happens in the states Mugen gives you, no matter what.

What you need to do is modify the air guarding states. Look for veladds/statetypesets in the guarding states and use triggers to control them.

Got it working.  You were right.  Once I set a variable to specify whether the character was flying and used it in the triggers already present in the pre-existing common states, it worked fine.  Thanks a lot!
