Well, I guess this goes here.

This is basically what I've been working on lately. I've put my KOF game aside since I lack ideas and it requires too much effort compared to the spare time
I currently have. So yeah, pocket game!

-TFGNYS-

PLOT

Money is one of the most powerful things ever existed. It can save the life of a person, it can doom another's, it can turn a typical youngster who knows nothing better than wasting money into one of the richest men of Earth.  The latter happened to Damien (in art Duo), which thanks to the lotto found himself
in possession of $2,169,402,521. After a week spent only by throwing parties and eating pizza, he realized there was much more than that to life, so, what did he do?

...He spent his winnings to organize a fighting tournament giving away part of his immense fortune as a prize! OF COURSE!

After weeks of battles, the leaders of the leagues are now battling it out for their chance to win the enourmous prize at Duo's disposal. The rules?
Anywhere, anytime, anything goes. What's going to happen next?

ENGINE

The game is currently being developed on Winmugen. I'll probably move the project on MUGEN 1.0 once I get a few info (mainly on disabling stuff I don't want to be in the game).

GAME SYSTEM

This covers the game system. It's still due to changes, but what's written here is pretty much what's gonna be in the game.

CONTROLS
A-Weak attack
  Your basic everyday attack.
B-Strong attack
Your basic everyday attack, only with more power.
X-Special attack
Attack with special properties depending on the character.
Y-Grab
Your character grabs and throws the opponent, switching sides or throwing him away depending on the direction held. Can be done in air as well.
C-Dash
Holding a direction while pressing C makes your character dash in that direction. Each character has its own limit of air dashes (there is no restriction on how many dashes you can do while you're on the ground). Dashing on the opponent at point blank range switches sides.
A+B-Air launcher
Sets up the opponent for an air combo.

GAUGES

The player has two gauges: Life Gauge and Action Gauge.

Each hit taken takes a chunk off the Life Gauge. Once the gauge is completely depleted, the player can continue fighting until he is knocked down on the ground, which counts as a KO.
This bar refills by itself very slowly(1-10 life per second, amount is different according to character). Note that the player can avoid being KOed by recovering before touching the ground after he takes a KD hit, but doing so consumes a good chunk of Action Gauge.

Each action (except for basic movements and attacks) takes a chunk off the Action Gauge. Once the gauge is depleted, the player cannot dash, use Special attacks and use other actions that require the Action Gauge (i.e. supers).
The Action Gauge refills over time when not using Specials or Supers.

Each player starts with the bar half full (500 power), the gauge will fill up until 1000. Requirements are the following:
Dashing: 100
Special attacks: from 100 to 200
Recovering from Knockdown:500
Super attacks: 500
Meteo attacks: 500 - life <30%

THE CAST

- Ryan - 20% (basic movements sprited)
Don't sweat it. When this is all over I'll pay you a drink.

One of Duo's close friends, he was forced to join the tournament on behalf of Duo's girlfriend, as she wants to avoid her boyfriend to waste all of his money in irresponsible ways.

Abilities
Ryan is able to create shapes of every material he has ever touched thanks to a mysterious force that flows through his body. To do so, he has to focus on the shape and material he wants to create before channeling his power. His mastery of this skill is such that he is able to create finely crafted blades and weapons in a matter of instants.
He also makes pie.

- Kira - 80% (missing a few specials, her Meteo attack and intro/winposes)
I've fought harder challenges on the newbie server.

A character from an online MMO, when she catched a conversation between two users about the prize money she realized she could benefit from it by corrupting the developers of the game to turn it into a decent MMO, so she willed herself out of the server (!) and joined the tournament.

Abilities
As a video game character, Kira can use various firearms from the game she is from. Being a character from an online game she can also materialize in rooms without your consent (unless you password them) and lag out of existence only to reappear a few seconds later.
She is also able to serve more than 20 different drinks. Her specialty is the Pina Colada.

- Takanori -
I would never stop hitting you! You are TERRIBLE!

He was a normal teenager with a gloomy and pessimist attitude before a wizard somewhere made a mistake and erroneously attributed him the elemental powers destined to 4 magical girls that were supposed to save the world from evil and darkness and stuff like that. Now he's power crazed, believes to be the hero the world has been waiting for (although his attitude and arrogance make him more akin to a villain) and joined the tournament not for the prize money but to
hone his skills.

Abilities
Tak holds power over the 4 base elements (earth, wind, fire, water). He can manifest them close to his body for extended use, or as long ranged blasts, which take a while to recharge, so he's mostly melee oriented.
He's one element short of summoning Captain Planet, but he's glad since Heart is for PUSSIES.

- Levi -
Didn't you know? A good illusionist never reveals his magic tricks.

Following a long-standing family tradition of illusionism is not easy, expecially if you're a girl. Levi created her magician persona by disguising herself as a male in order to gain more success with public, becoming quite popular in the circus scene. She wears heavy make-up to make her feminine features look fake and loose clothing to hide her figure, which turns useful to hide movements during her magic tricks.
After knowing about the tournament she decided to join to try to gain worldwide popularity.

Abilities
Being taught in the way of the illusionist since she was a kid, Levi can pull off even the most complex tricks in a matter of seconds, almost as real magic.
She uses her skills to attack in various impredictable ways.

- Rox -
Ok, back to work! What was I doing again?

He is a character from an old video game that wants to rescue his girlfriend but always gets sidetracked. This time, he got sidetracked by a tournament! AAAH! So, followed by his kid sidekick, he gets into it. Why?

Abilities
As the character of an old video game, Rox can stomp on his opponents to hurt them, and has various attacks based on his in-game abilities (such as traveling through pipes, consume flowers to gain fire abilities and stuff like that).

- Alice -
Sorry, I don't plan to acquire battle data THAT way.

An apparently normal girl obsessed with mecha anime, Alice is actually a genius who designed her own combat power armor. Thanks to the help of her manager she built a prototype, and she joined the tournament as a test run, interested in the prize money to develop it further.

Abilities
Alice's power armor allows her to fly and use various projectile based weapons. She has the 'floatiest' jump of the whole cast thanks to her thrusters, but the lowest moving speed.  She can also make pies which rival only to Ryan's.

- Duo -
I'm bad.

The FINAL BOSS, not the one Gordon Freeman is fighting though. Eh's a pretty cool guy, he wastes money and doesn't afraid of anything. He's a good sportman and generally friendly, although for a certain reason he cannot afford to lose the tournament - and he's willing to do anything to prevent that.

Abilities.
Duo is convinced to be the final boss, and for that he's got final boss powers despite being a normal human fighting video game characters, superpowered people, prestidigitators and girls in power armor. Period.

There are also a few more characters I'd like to sprite but they're not a priority.

THE TIME WARP

A very rare occurence that happens once in a lifetime, Duo carefully planned the tournament's finals to take place where the next Time Warp is occurring to add a twist to the tournament. When you get in a time warp, mainly two things happen: you either meet a sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transilvania and withstand a musical number that will scare you shitless, OR YOU FIGHT SUB BOSSES THAT COME FROM RIFTS IN TIME OR PARALLEL DIMENSIONS AND ATTACK YOU FOR NO APPARENT REASONS!
This covers the latter.

SUB-BOSSES

- ??? - The Determinator
Who the hell do you think I am?
A mysterious man from the far future. With his hotblooded attitude, he is sure he will win! Wields a nodachi and fights with an instinct-based fighting
style. Completely melee oriented.

Abilities
Not surrendering even when the circumstances are pretty dim. Good at surprise attacks, but they only work once. Cool shades.

- ??? - The Forgotten
No matter if you forget, I'll always remember my victory in my heart.
A mysterious being from another world. Quiet but determined to win, hides its features under a black cape in order to blend with the crowd. Uses magic and a weirdily shaped blade. No one is sure if it's a man or a woman.

Abilities
Acrobatic fighting skills. It presents a balanced roster of short-to-mid range moves.

- ??? - The Hero
I like chocolate milk.
A masked man from the past. People know him for being a dark anti-hero, but he's actually a pretty fun guy to have around.

Abilities
Showing POW and KAPOW on the screen each time he hits something, can run with a bomb over his head. Uses a variety of gadgets to fight.

- ??? - The Shocker
A marriage proposal? I get that a lot.
A mysterious woman from the present. Skilled in fighting, she uses electric powers to overcome her foes.

Abilities
She's a good cook.

STAGES

Stages will be mostly scratch-done in a 16-bit style. You can get a glimpse here.

SCREENPACK

Screenpack is not being developed yet. I'm focusing on the creation of characters and stages first.

STORYBOARDS

The game will include storyboards for facing sub-bosses, bosses and endings. Character intros will contain basic info on the character and a short movelist, SFA3 style.

Anyway, since I need tangible proof, here's the obligatory screenshot of one of Kira's cut-in animations during one of her supers. ENJOY

So there you go. Help is not needed but would be very appreciated to speed up things a bit.

I'm a huge fan of pocket games, and your sprites look excellent.  If you need an intro for the game, and those storyboards I can help you with those ;)

The Fighter Game Nobody ? Shit

So considering those 2 mechanics (dash and launchers) it's safe to asume that this game will be heavily combo based? Looking forward to this.

It's an anagram of the actual acronym. I'm letting you guys figure it out. :P

Forgot to mention there's a damage dampener, so well, single high damaging strikes are actually more rewarding than long combos. Besides, due to the game's nature (you will NOT get knocked down most of the time, which means juggle points are rarely used), I'm considering putting a Combo Breaker of some sort, of course executable at full power, to escape combos which become too long. Since power recovers even when you are getting hit, it's up to you to avoid comboing attacks for too long, otherwise the opponent might get enough power to break out and retaliate. What do you think?

I don't know, I was considering about reusing the sprites via palswap=BAM NEW CHAR but I'll have to discuss with the rest of the team first, as apparently some people are still convinced the project is not dead.

And I mean, even if that project returns nothing prevents you from having the same sprite set showing in two places.
