Due to time issues on sunday, the Evo staff now goes with top6 on the final day instead of top8. They started doing this last year.
Time issues huh? Hmmm, I call semi-BS. EVO's been around for how long, and now they have a concern on runtime? I think it's more of having too much in EVO now, along with Sony and Endeavor having their hands in the cookie jar now, which most likely will have vendors/sponsors whoring themselves to have more screen time, which goes to time mismanagement, which means something has to give. Hopefully the matches are good (I skipped watching EVO last year)
EVO is much bigger than it used to be, not just due to Sony having a stake in it and sponsorships taking up some screen time but also due to the general growths in the FGC and just how much it takes to run an event. They're also paying big amounts of money for a big venue and actively building the stadium they use for the finals in that same venue while the event is running, which means they have to close up shop as soon as they can because they probably would not be able to pay another week just to get a good top 8 and build the stadium before the event like any reasonable planner would do.Long story short it mainly has to do with budget cuts.

I really, REALLY, wanted MOV to stick with Elena the whole time to win 3rd Strike, just to have something different. But in the end, he had to revert to the dark side, and pull out Chun-Li in the end to be the victor. The final match with Hayao (Hugo) vs Frankie (Ken) in losers was my highlight.
For the Third Strike EVO video package, they actually brought back Infinite, the rapper from the original Third Strike opening, to sing a new piece. I cannot believe the multiple Rock/Paper/Scissors nonsense they're doing between matches. I know it's giveaways for Sony (trademark) PS5s and AT&T (trademark) joysticks, but Top 8 died for this baloney.
