OXNARD, Calif. -- A middle-school science teacher fired after students learned she had appeared in pornographic movies had hoped not just to get her job back, but to set a precedent for people looking to escape an embarrassing personal history.

A three-judge commission put a decisive stop to both, saying firmly and unanimously that Stacie Halas should not be in the classroom.

"We were hoping we could show you could overcome your past," Halas lawyer Richard Schwab said Tuesday. "I think she's representative of a lot of people who may have a past that may not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody."

Judge Julie Cabos-Owen said such a past matters in an age when technology makes porn easy to access and hard to bury.

"Although her pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague," Cabos-Owen said in the 46-page decision issued Friday by the Commission on Professional Competence.

The past will haunt you no matter what you do. That's how it is sometimes.

On the bright side, this prevents any Mary Kay LeTorneau-esque situations coming from the fact that the teacher was a former pornstar.

Actually I think Duck didn't understand the article well and just posted his opinion on what he understood of it?
Also most districts have very strict internet usage, doubt a teacher saw it and thought "Hey that looks a lot like Ms. Halas!" I assume some kid found out on his own and well.. it was either him or a concerned parent that informed the school. It sucks that she had to lose her job over this but schools need to have a better image, having a former porn star as a teacher would piss off some parents..

Personally I think she should go back to porn industry. With this scandal, she become more famous than before and her comeback could make her a better pornstar than before

It's a possibility, yes. I mean, the fact she become more famous thanks to her past got revealed is true, and she could get benefits with that. But finding another job (especially as a teacher) would be so hard nowadays, especially that her real name is revealed

There's a difference between being a porn actress and looking like Groucho Marx. There is also a difference between middle school kids and college-aged kids.

Hopefully she'll find some way to teach because it seems like her dream.

A pornstar isn't a convicted felon or a registered sex offender. There's nothing about her previous 'work' that dimishes her character or makes her less competent for her job. There's no valid reason (besides angry soccermoms) to stop her from teaching if she was doing a fine job so far.

Of course not. I'm not suggesting that she wear a scarlet letter or anything. But I think it's probable that these revelations would severely impair her ability to teach because middle schoolers are old enough to understand what being a former pornstar means, but at the same time aren't old and mature enough to be able to put it to the side and treat her as a teacher first and foremost.

I mean, I don't know for sure. Perhaps it is possible for them to eventually acclimate. But middle schoolers are dumb. :-\

She could try moving down to grade school.  Middle schoolers are at that point where curiosity has totally outpaced maturity, so it's hardly unreasonable to worry about them being unable to take their teacher seriously.  But I doubt a second grader would give a shit how many cocks teacher's sucked in her lifetime.
