Haven't had a chance to thank for guys for the palettes. Most of these are already in but those that aren't will be on the next update for sure.
Update the Neo Geo Pocket color Palletes and added 2 Evil Ryu's Palletes








Loved the NGPC ones, they're very creative!

Made myself a RoadMap to follow my own progress for Evil Ryu. This is all that is been done:

Hi Karma, wanted to post my 2 cents for what is worth before I go away again for an year lol.

Minor suggestions

Gouken

Has rapid on both standing LK and LP however he cant chain between them.

Has no rapid on his crouching low and cant chain a crouching LK with a crouching LP, I believe I've mentioned this before and the range was a concern for you.
For what its worth he can do it in USF4 and makes it easier going into other combos.
If you are still sticking with it (which is fair) maybe lower the red box a bit and add rapid ? makes him a bit smoother to play is all.

You applied the same logic to Q based on his range which is fair, however he CAN chain between them, makes it easier to dish out damage.



Lee brothers.

Again chaining between the lights crouching ones seems a bit harder then usual, I can do it but its a bit harder then normal chars.

Though they can do their dive kicks really close to the ground in USF4 they have a restriction which does not allow them to do it so close to the ground, I think its somewhere in the middle of their jump at most.

From what I've tested both Yun and Yang can do it very close to the ground when you ported them over.

Rugal

Has rapid on both lows but cant chain between them when crouching :P

Akira

I'm enjoying Akira a lot but im kinda to stupid to figure out how she plays, though I try to learn follow ups from the launcher, her effects are gorgeous btw.



Raiden

Its a bit hard for me to do 360's but it may be a ME issue.


Iori

The latest update is very good I've had zero issues with him.

Q

I get my ass handed to me when I play as him but dang when it hits... IT HITS.


Ill play more with Ryu to see if I can find anything.

If I remember correctly in the future you plan to recode the older chars like Genjuro,Blanka and Rose so I will save my  feedback if/when the updates come out.

Thanks for the reports PeX. I'll bear them in mind for whenever I update the characters. I'll seize this opportunity to talk about my projects long term, since the state of my projects and the scope of updates changed quite a bit over time.



Let's talk about the updates.

My current standard is represented by Iori, Ryu, and Akira. These three characters are the result of years of getting better at coding MUGEN characters, understanding CvS2, and getting better at fighters in general. I made it my mission to keep them updated so in the future I don't have to deal with the problem I'm facing right now: most of the characters I made are far from the current standard that I set for myself.

This is a huge issue because in most cases the characters aren't an update or two away from being on par with my current releases. In fact, a lot of them need entire reworks. I'll split my characters in groups:

Characters that are salvable: Raiden, Gouken, Q, Rugal, Angel.
These 5 characters aren't that bad! In fact, most of the work they need is related to systemic updates that I made over time (things like fixing tick throws, correcting air movement, changing the way fireball supers interact with dampener).
Some of them have specific issues that need addressing. Angel for example was intended to be a high combo battery character with low damage due to bad super cancels... Turns out she doesn't need to use bar to do damage that expects my intentions:

Rugal was supposed to have ridicolous damage but also a hard time hitconfirming... Turns out he can hitconfirm into God Slam (you know how strong the reward is if you played agaisnt my Rugal), and can neutral skip with easy by TKing the dive kick. I'm also not to thrilled regarding how the Omega Mode ended up feeling. Its ridicolously strong, but quite literally feels weird on my hands.
On the other hand, Raiden and Gouken are bit better, but need a bit of care in the presentation. Raiden doesn't have correct WinQuotes nor he has Color Separation implemented. Gouken has visual effects that clash a little bit, and could use a couple of animations to spice up his Intro/Win/Basic Movement portfolio.
Q is great altho a bit underpowered by nature. I want to explore his install super to make it feel like he's a real menace whenever he is on.

These characters are solid but do need a couple of weeks of focus to reach their true potential.

Characters that have significant problems: Haohmaru, Yun, Yang, Terry.
These characters are a byproduct of their time. Yun, Yang and Terry were made back when I haven't even discovered that the way we ported data was wrong. They also have some glaring balance issues; especially Terry who has brutal corner pressure and damage output thru the roof. The Twins are broken in other ways. With relentless dive kick pressure and installs that go way too far.

Haohmaru might have the correct movement implemented, but his frame data is a bit off, and his hitboxes were also made back when J and I didn't noticed the scale was wrong. He likely needs revisions on his sprites axis (!!!!) and color separation. I feel I nailed Rasetsumaru tho. He needs to be in pristine state because if he's not working correctly, a character in the next tier won't be also.

Characters that are lmao: Genjuro, Blanka, Rose
If you have these three in your roster its likely because there's no other version of the character out that its good enough. These characters are a mess. I have a lot of attachment to these three because they were my first time experimenting with different things: Genjuro was my first time making a character period; Blanka was my first time making a character datamining from CvS2, and Rose was my first character working with a character with custom sprites.
They kinda suck tho. Genjuro has SSVSP hitboxes because at that time I hadn't even seen how CvS2 hitboxes looked like. Blanka is cracked with his oppresive CvS2 neutral but actual great combos. Rose is as broken as Alpha 2 Rose, with brutal neutral, unintended safe supers, and cracked custom combos that you can cancel into and do like 60% on block. I know I'm all about respecting character's identity but I went too far by making her a mess.

Out of these three tiers, I feel that the last two are worth reworking entirely. While the second tier could use relentless updates to be on par with my current characters, having to re-rip that much data in almost all aspects makes me think that it'd be better to just make them from scratch.

If I had to pick a character from each tier to update/rework, I'd go with:
Angel/Haohmaru/Genjuro.
Angel needs balance changes mostly, and could benefit from lower potential power with higher consistency and accesibility.
Haohmaru and Genjuro would be great to redefine (yet again) what I want SamSho characters to be.

I'd also love to tackle Gouken, but I really want to wait for ben to sprite some extra anims that give him the extra push regarding presentation.



Now let's discuss upcoming projects. Once again this is gonna be long.

Characters that are next in line: Ash Crimson, Dudley, Kage Mode, SF6 Mode, Shin Mode, Secret Character?
First and foremost, I really want to get Ash out this year. Spritewise, he is like 4 anims away to have all the fluff I want in. I restarted progress on him recently, and I intend to make him count this time. I really want to push for a Dark Mode that cooks people on arcade runs, but honestly? The priority is to get the main mode out.
Second its Dudley. Not much to say about him other than it's very likely that I'll be collabing with a insanely talented spriter for the visuals to be on the next level.
Third is the last three Ryu Modes. I want to work them between releases, much like E. Ryu came out after I took a break and made Akira. I think its a great workflow. Next up is Kage or SF6 mode. Hopefully I can get Hashogeki sprited. Both present great challenges but I have huge expectations on them.
Fourth is a character that is no secret for people in the Discord Server, but I guess is not really public. Its nothing new nor groundbreaking, just a character that I've been working on whenever I wanted to do something fun and was a bit burnout.

Characters that I'll 100% make in the future: Birdie, K' Sasquatch, Wild Wolf, Tabasa
Nothing to say that I'll make these 4 for sure. We are in talks with Rabano for Birdie to have sprites for his SFV moveset to be possible. Wild Wolf will come out with Terry's update. The others will be made, eventually.

Other stuff:
On a Discord Talk I ended up making a tier list of the characters I'd tackle:

3 tier are characters that I'd have fun working with, but their scope is wayy too big.
4 tier are characters that I'd be willing to make for specific reasons, but there are specific circumstances that prevent me from doing so. For example, 3rd Strike characters are a pain in the ass to make because assembling their .sff and capitalizing on their animations takes a lot of time. Another example is Claw, who would need for me to jump to IKEMEN GO to make him properly.
5 tier are characters that I'd like to make only while teaming up with Jmorphman (Dictator, Yamazaki) or JtheSaltyy (Chang, Sagat, Todoh). Dictator and Yamazaki are really cool characters that would be fun to make, but have some things that would be really annoying to tackle (Dictator's Aura and Yamazaki's multileveled Drill), and I think Jmorphman would make a better job than me approaching them giving his history tackling odd things that most would not dare to approach (butterflies, mutant palettes). I think JtheSaltyy would be a great parnet for Chang, Sagat, Todoh because of his deep knowledge on those characters; especially Chang, who is part of both of his 97 and CvS2 teams.
6 tier are characters that I would really love to make... With new sprites. Leona has been discussed on this thread. I also manifested my hate towards CvS Dan quite a bit on Discord. Take it as a wishlist tier.
7 tier is the dream. The unachiveable.

Like the Angel/Haohmaru/Genjuro/Gouken pick, sounds like would be quite easy to rework on them.
Also Ash hype too!! And Dudley? I bet he would finally get the love and dedication that he needs.
And Sasquatch? I can't wait to see how that would end.

I agree with everything that you mentioned.

As it hurts my soul to admit Terry is very strong, i'm sure over the years you've seen me bash in chars with terry and his corner pressure, however I don't think nerfing him to the ground is the way to go.

Even in XV (totally different game ofc) I can keep up the pressure and get in, Terry has always had those tools in his toolkit.

The most difficult part to deal with Terry currently is that sweep he has or the "fire kick"  though its an awesome tool to punish people trying to zone you out.
There is an argument on his 3tick EX wave as well but thats fine in my eyes.

Terry himself is in that Ken "mold"(If I remember correctly they are created by the same person) as an example in 3rd Strike, Ken has no big weaknesses and is good at mostly everything all around solid pick.


For me in general as Mugen itself is not super competitive etc, while I understand the balance concern, trying to keep the chars fun to play is also very important.


Fuck coming to game examples, Chun in 3rd strike is fuck busted, with her kara cancels option select nonsense fast walking speed  1 or 2 frame crouching low, insane super, insane buttons etc, yet I cant imagine 3rd strike with no fuck busted chun lol.

Thing is one thing I'm noticing with modern fighting games is that everything is nerfed to the ground and unique "tricks/quirks" like Q's crouching throw box etc are not a thing anymore, they get patched instantly.

For the upcoming releases, as long as I am active I look forward to everything, Dudley, Ash and Wild Wolf.

As for the 3rd strike stuff, I think I've mentioned this to you before or in the discord that you are the real MVP, 3rd strike is one of the most beloved games yet the cast in the "PotS" sphere is barely represented.

Old stuff, updates to Blanka and Rose.

Jman's butterfly meltdown was a classic but yeah though I annoyed the hell out of him on purpose I highly respect the fact and the way he went about it.

He promised us a Zangief years back but he is yet to deliver on it :P

Though even if the Jman is busy and cant help, if you want to make the chars go ahead and do it.

tbh, i remember there was a umt thread about if anyone wins the tournament will get a character requested by the winner created by you, but i can't find the thread  :P at that time, I was thinking that if I win the tournament, i can request a character to be made by you and there are two characters that are in this tier that I wished if I win the tournament, I can request one of them for you to make :P both of them are from 3rd strike btw there is also one more, not from 3rd strike, but he isn't in any tiers in the list that you listed ;D btw, if you choose to make kagami, he has got a boss form, his awaken form from the first last blade game

My real life is coming soon........!

PLEASE do Storm. There are so few good Marvel chars in this style and nobody ever did Storm (not well, at least), your work is incredible and I bet you could do an amazing job on her. Also, why do you need new sprites for Chizuru? Her CvS sprites are bad?

Ok, I do want Strom (to prevent varo putting the coding of DCL's EoHR take on Jmorph's Gulie) and the Jmorph-helped Yamazaki (cause Knuckles is retired, and R@ce's chars are more MvC than CvS), Fei-Long and Dudley would be neat as well (cause a I want a Fei-Long with a Special intro with Yun, and a Dudley from you will help my "No Mr. Groomsuken" thing)

Great list, with lots of variety.

PotS Storm and Rogue would be interesting, curious how you plan to handle Rouge's power drain shenanigans if you ever decide to create her.

What’s up peeps?

Been awhile since I’ve posted in here. A couple of months ago I tried testing out how useful my Ryu Template was for making Gouki. In about a week I had about 80% of the character done because of how much was lifted from Ryu and Evil Ryu.

For that reason, every time I felt burnout from other projects, I started coding random Gouki moves. At first there wasn’t a real direction with the character, but eventually it started becoming a thing. Everything changed the moment the project went from “I’ll code every move Gouki has” to “Let’s split the character into modes”. Ever since then I’ve been working on him on a daily basis. And two months later here we are, with him almost done.

The character as of now has 3 modes: one named “Classic Gouki”, with moves based off his classic appearances up to SF4; another one named “Shin Gouki”, based off his CvS2 boss mode; and finally a last one named “EX Gouki”, with a moveset inspired by his SFV and SF6 appearances. Here is his EX lvl 3, Sip of Calamity. It is inspired by his Critical Art in SF6, but had to be adapted to fit the 2D environment.

He is missing very little to be release ready. I need to make Light and Heavy followups for Kongo Shakka, code Empyrean’s End, and that is it. FeLo is helping me out spriting the animation needed for those moves, so for now I’ll sit, wait and refine the rest of the character for him to drop in the best possible shape.

If anyone wants to help out giving the mode the extra push to set him apart, check out my post at the Request Thread.

Once Gouki is done, much like with Ryu, I’d like to revise him overtime to add more modes. There’s two modes that I’m set on adding, and those are Oni and Mech Gouki. Mech Gouki is the reason I’m not releasing a palette template as of now, because I’d like to expand the CS to allow his face and arm to reflect Mech Gouki’s aesthetic. Oni mode on the other hand is something that would need a bit of extra spriting (around 7 to 12 new anims), so that one will happen later into the future much like Iori’s Claw Mode did.

In any case, stay tuned for this one. He is likely releasing at the end of the month.

This sounds pretty awesome, idk how much help it would be in regards to the Oni mode in the future but I do recall there was a Akuma that had a Oni mode with those moves incorporated into the CVS sprites, but I'm not sure how much polish they had or would need if needed

This sounds pretty awesome, idk how much help it would be in regards to the Oni mode in the future but I do recall there was a Akuma that had a Oni mode with those moves incorporated into the CVS sprites, but I'm not sure how much polish they had or would need if needed
Lemme elaborate on Oni.

For starters, I’d drop all of his missing alt Command Normal in favor of a fully fledged Special Moveset. A lot of it is already there like:


I made this quick frankensprite for Gohadoken by using sabockee’s Heavy Punch a Gouki’s Palm from Medium Punch. With a bit of adjustment on the belt this anim is good to go.


Gorai Hadoken is straight up Sekia Goshoha with an Electric Aura.


I’m pretty sure Shin Shoryuken Sprites for Gouki are out there, but worst-case scenario I can always just use his regular Shoryu anim.


Tatsu is just Tatsu.


And Sekisei Jiraiken can be made by recycling Misogi.

This leaves Zanku Hadosho, his Air Dash, which needs three different animations, one on each direction.
Rakan Dantojin, which would recycle Teleport Animation, but would need a Striking Animation that can be used both as the crossup version and the shorter non crossup version.
Messatsu-Gotenha, which is a Hadoken animation pointing vertically instead of horizontally. I think there’s a sprite that could be used for it, but not a full animation.
And finally, Tenchi Sokaiken, which honestly, I feel like I can kind of work around without any major new anim, with some ideas I have in mind.
All in all, this requires at least 5 animations. The number goes up if you want to go the extra mile and have a decent Messatsu-Gozanku (air super fireball, in all honestly would benefit all the modes and not just Oni.), or a good Tenchi Sokaiken anim that is not in charge by me because I kind of suck at spriting haha. It is a feasible goal but you have to have a spriter willing to go for it

Heyo guys. Popping up to say that Ash is progressing seamlessly. How much? Actually, nearly done. I've coded nearly everything that Ash will have. He is almost ready for release, with only a couple of tweaks for me to make, and a couple of animations for FeLo to sprite. Check out his AI:

So yeah, he is nearly done. Normal Mode, that is; since I'm on the waiting room on said animations, I'll now focus on some Evil Ash stuff and some other extras for Ash to have.
