Honeycomb Select screen problems

I designed a honeycomb shaped select screen but I am having problems with it.

When I enable "move over empty cells" I can select anybody but the cursor has to move 2 cells and it looks ugly, if I turn the option off  I can only select the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th rows as the design requires the other rows to be offset from those ones.

So, my question is - Is it possible to make the cursor enter the other rows with out having " move over empty cells" on?

sorry, at friends house - no pics but as I said, its honeycomb shaped so it shouldn't be too hard to understand my problem.

I believe its "possible" but that's the big problem with honeycomb select screens seeing as the cursor only moves vertical/horizontal and no diagonal you'd have to either put on the "move over empty cells" OR you can do what was done here

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

and you the the arrows on the far left top row? You can put a randomselect there so you can move down to the 2nd 4th and 6th row. so in all honesty that's probably the easiest way but you'll only be able to access every other row :C
