Just read Sindel's bio. So... as seen in previous trailers and bios, Mileena is not a clone/experiment/whatever anymore, and I'm happy by that. I think it makes the dynamic between her and Kitana more interesting.
I'm just wondering... where is Edenia in all of that? Is it part of Outworld already? Did I miss something?

This is me just guessing here, but I think there's a chance that Edenia might not exist in this timeline or, at the very least, it was merged with Outworld in a peaceful manner. This being a massively stark contrast to the previous two timelines where Edenia was merged into Outworld by force.

  • Build it, shape it, by my will.

Recreation of the very first Mortal Kombat promo in the 90s featuring Deacon Batista.

Hard to believe that this game is coming out in a matter of weeks.

Tbh I'm going to feel worried about those stiff animations and that stance switch (which is by far what was the point of switching) . Don't get me wrong the gameplay concept is really cool but I always get the feeling that those stiff animations r going to be there in my mind like "sigh why man" like i want this game to be cool but always get that mmph in my mind. And yes They Improve in MK11 but i always find it a bit off about it like "the fighting animations man just make some flare out of it" and yeah sorry i just want to get this out of my chest of how i'm going to feel about it. It's like my pet peeve fighting game.

As a matter of fact, MK 3D movement has been something of an issue. And it all stems from realism.

Animations are something that people talk a lot about when it comes to Mortal Kombat – A lot of criticisms about certain attack animations. Do you have any comments with regards to some of those criticisms and why they are prevalent on Twitter?

Ed Boon: I don't know. Certainly there's different animation styles that different games have. I think one of the things is our characters, I believe are the most photorealistic. And Street Fighter has beautiful characters, but they're probably dialed a little bit more towards kind of the anime a little bit type of exaggeration and stuff like that. We're always going for exact anatomically correct characters. And sometimes just seeing our characters doing these kind of five frame attacks and crazy things like that, there's a bit of a disconnect that we can't quite get away with it as well as a game that has more anime characters. I think that's a factor to it.

"Anatomically correct" in the game in which people shrug off having their bones broken and their vital organs pierced. Sure, Boon, thats exactly why your animation sucks...

If you are aware that you 'can't quite get away' with certain animations due to your artstyle then why not just.... make sure your art direction goes for animations it can get away with? Why intentionally hold on to 5 frame animations if the art style and visuals clearly can't accomodate it??

I think this game has had probably the most frantic and unorganized life of all of the "current-gen" fighting games I've been keeping up with. It was revealed on an investor call as MK 12 before Ed Boon came in and said it was actually going to be MK 1 because Liu Kang started the new timeline or whatever. And then they revealed the cinematic trailer and how the release date was going to be really soon, before saying they weren't gonna reveal how the game actually plays until Summer Game Fest, which wasn't until a few weeks after it happened. We got a few good character reveals after Summer Game Fest before stopping those character reveals with the trailer where they revealed Sindel and the brute-ified Shao Kahn at Gamescom, and they said it was going to be the craziest trailer for the game yet when I really just found it boring and a kinda poor way to end the hype cycle.

I had a lot of hope for this game when it was initially revealed. I thought they were gonna tone down some of the "realism" of the gore MK is usually known for, and I liked the fact that they brought back the aerial raves from the 3D era and their new striker concept which made a lot of people think of things like KoF 2000 or even the gutted MvC1 PS1 port. I was pretty happy to see that they brought back Li Mei and I guess other things like unifying the ninja clans and that one character's weird black hole fatality were cool, but the other aspects of the gameplay started to get less appealing as the hype cycle went on, and I started feeling like it wasn't really a "fresh re-start" for MK as much as it was just the same thing as the last few games. I've seen more people talk about this game than any of the other upcoming fighters out there, maybe it is because MK is such a recognizable brand in the west, but they keep making it out to be one of the more grandiose games out this year when in reality it honestly just feels like yet another netherrealm game with at least one reprogrammable quirk.

...so who's up for some Mortal Kombat 6: 28 People?

I mean, at this point, after MK11's guest list, anything is possible with Hollywood actors and Netherealm Games.

Good for those waiting over a decade for Nitara.

By the way, not mentioned here, but a new mode called Invasions is their new Konquest-ish mode that rotates active challenges.
