Thanks, FeLo. Much appreciated.

Updated my old Choi sprite, now with all his attires through the years (94, 96 & XIV) plus a few alternate palletes and sans gloves/hat.

UPDATE

Added Xanadu with a few color variations and KOF XVI' secret final boss OMEGA Xanadu.

That's an incredible Xanadu. I can't imagine that coat pattern was easy to do!

Thanks MotorRoach and Staubhold.
Xanadu's coat pattern was quite a challenge, but really fun to make.

A few more, with some variations and palette swaps just for the fun of it, spoilered 'cause the images are quite big:

Koudelka Iasant, an obscure SNK character from the PSX era, Orochi Shermie, with her Hakkesshu/KOF '97/KOF XV attires, and Ryo Sakazaki in his old KOF '96 stance.

Kind of strange that SNK decided to go back to his original Art of Fighting stance/design for KOF XII, ditching this more iconic one, but changed Takuma's completly normal stance with a new, weird pose. [/rant]

Always preferred the more dynamic 96 Ryo stance, so seeing it here is honestly great. Never heard of Koudelka until now, but it's nice to learn about more old SNK stuff. You're always killing it with these stellar XII sprites, eFeX

Didn't see Xanadu and Mr Choi. Shermie and Ryo. I can't express it with words, Amazing!! <3 !!
I swear there was something cool here!!

KOF XIII sprites are meant to be pixel art, and yet these are all suspiciously higher resolution and they're an uncanny mixture of pixelated but also smoothed and blurred around a lot of areas if you look up close.

Pardon my suspicion, but it all looks rather AI assisted to me.

Shit

Sometimes I made the sprites low res or bigger res and then i try to resize them with photoshop. thats why they are blurry. the KofXIII resolution are too low for modern 4k resolution. I am trying to make them hires by adding some glossian blur style. in this case it's more like drawings instead of spriting.

Come on, we are not blind. Just say yes, is AI. Don't avoid the question. There are inconsistencies on the shoulder pads compared to her other giant sprite you "made".

The excuse that is because "Photoshop resizing" is weak, totally weak.

Here's she as a proper KoF XII sprite, actually:

If only you knew how to do these steps:
1. Resizing to the proper XII scale (if you can't resize without blurriness you are beyond any help)
2. Convert to grayscale.
3. Limit the palette to 7 tones per color (Hair, Skin, Whites and Blues)
4. Color Separate and add details. I only touched the hair and body outlines, barely touched the image.

Boom in 15 minutes you have transformed that blurry AI .jpeg to a sprite.

If you follow my steps at least you can really fool us...

It's "Gaussian" Blur, not Glossian. And Gaussian Blur doesn't create the same blur patterns like in your work (as a matter of fact, gaussian blur is unusable for pixel work). If you were trying to just stick with the XII style, then I'm not sure what would even be the need to ditch the pixel look of the game altogether, it simply makes no sense, and it honestly looks ugly up close.

I've seen you uploading AI art on your DeviantArt as well, and I gave you a chance to just be honest about it yourself, yet you tried to lie to people here. It's a real shame, because I really liked your pixel work, and I'd rather you just went back to your older spriting method.

Well, I got caught. I trained an AI to do KofXII style. Not perfect yet, Chamat, can you teach me those methods? I really want to make very very big sprites, that's why I use this method. My resizing skills with photoshop are really bad and they end up blurry and messy. Well, I will remove them and go back to all ways.

KOF XII sprites are already so big that I don't think you even need to make them bigger than they already are. Also, I think using the AI results as reference could be harmless, but I've noticed that quite often, the output results it offers is pretty off model, so I can't say I recommend using it for skipping the character drawing step of spriting.

Does make me happy to hear that you're willing to try embracing your more traditional spriting method. XII spriting isn't easy, and you always had my admiration for dedicating yourself to it.

Shit

Man its been a while since I saw the mugen police go after someone. Meh, nothing wrong with using AI.

I saw this exact same discussion way back in the day when photoshop showed up and all the old school graphic designers felt insulted at how people were doing the same work they did but way faster and many times better. Nowadays not using photoshop (or its competitors) is seen as dumb and inefficient. Photoshop was pretty clunky back then too.

Ye olde ways will eventually die off, always. Good for you for trying to develop new ways to make sprites using modern tools.

Do whatever you want man. Enjoy your hobby and thanks for sharing its results with us.

Vyn, i understand and agree with alot of your points, since i'm using shaders, 3d bases, for a while, btw, put it on same topic that pixel artists that have they work used as base for trainning this AI models, and without saying that is ai tool based, don't seems the better place. i used some 3d tools long ago. i think "MMD" back in 2020, to try some shortcuts for that style, but never made it a secret or try to hide it, also, the tool have potential, but sure can't make a 100% aproach nowadays

but just wanna say, this kind of stuff must have a separated topic.

some old exemple of edits over 3d renders
