two things the stance is missing imho:

1) make his right hand (spriter's view) clench a fist every second or third time
2) eye blinks!

How about using Paul Robertson's Scott Pilgrim Sprites where Scott Pilgrim actually knocks out Vegeta the moment he appears in the air & gets coins for his punch. Vegeta stands back up "Yeah I forgot, don't ever mess with this guy!" - It could also be done vice-versa as Bulma has also a crazy hair colour (just like Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim) she could cosplay ramona / short fight Vegeta vs. Scott

The most diverse fighters compared to the ones made/in progress would probably be:
Trunks (w/ sword attacks)
Piccolo (w/ his completly different attacks/limb ranges/special skills)
Gotenks (FUSION!HA!, his attacks are just hilarious - he would be the funny fighter every game needs)
Buu (w/ his "liquidity", attacks & special skills (e.g. turn people into chocolate)
OR
some grappler like:
Nappa
C16 (kinda grappler)

Cell on the other hand is merely a less unoriginal mixture of all the zfighters - if he would not be able to create cell juniors - he would be the most boring one in my opinion.

also: I love the krillin you sprited balthazar. i am looking forward to whatever you chose to do, because whatever it might be, it will rock!

If you want to make a VS game with Dragonball Z Chars, the best saga would be the Vegeta Saga:

- Goku (pure good)
- Vegeta (evil guy)
- Piccolo (stretchy guy)
- Nappa (big strong guy)
- Yamcha (would be some sort of slasher with his wolf attacks)
- Tien (martial arts master, with his 4 arms move, split mode & flying)
- Krillin (best sidekick ever)

I hope you dont mind if I post what an ideal DBZ game would look like for me:
 

DragonballZ (Rumble Arena or Legends)

The Roster consists of 7 Heroes, 7 Villains and  1 Boss Villain

PLAYABLE Heroes
- Goku
- Gohan (Cell Saga)
- Piccolo
- Future Trunks Purple Hair (With Sword)
- Gotenks Black/Purple Hair
- Krilin
- C18

PLAYABLE Villains
- Radditz
- Nappa
- Vegeta
- Freeza
- C17
- Cell
- Buu (Either SuperBuu or KidBuu)

FINAL BOSS
- Brolly


To keep every char INDIVIDUAL, original and interesting the chars (especially the Saiyans) have to be differed design and gameplay-wise. That is one of the reasons why Gohan is from Cell Saga and not the Buu Saga.

One of the most important things in this game will be GAMEPLAY of course!

Reason:
Goku - Main Hero
Gohan - SpeedStar
Piccolo - Namekian Legend (wide range)
Trunks - Swords Man
Gotenks - Funny One (Hilarious Attacks like the wild boar attack,etc...)
Krillin . Human Hero
C18 - Female!

Radditz - Evil Brother
Nappa - Big Guy
Vegeta - Goku's Counterpart
Freeza - Dirty Fighter
C17 - Cool Enemy
Cell - All Round
Buu - Pure Evil
Brolly - Big "Overpowered" Guy

All other Chars not being Playable are for Stages, Interactions between Fights like:
- Tien
- Yamcha
- Chaozu
- Mr.Satan
- ChiChi
- Bulma
- Master Roshi
- Yashirobi
- Kaio
- C16
---------------------------
- Ginyu Force
- Freeza Father
- Dr.Gero
- Babidi, Dabura

Gameplay-Ideas:
- Every Sayan has a Rage Mode, which is shown at the Rage Bar at the Bottom.
The Rage Bar gets filled up with increasing damage of your char (the bar is filled up when you are nearly killed and you can be beated with a simple combo of your opponent. The aim of this Rage Mode is to show the Sayans ability to become stronger after a near death experience & the power enrichement of rage itself.With this Special Rage Attack you can turn a nearly loose into a victory, if you manage to pull off some decent combos after the Rage Attack)

- There is a Mode every Char has. The BeatDown Mode. When there is a heavy offence/defence switch of the chars ( attacks/blocks and counters ) (means two punches from you..one from the opponent...one from you...two from the opponent) the chars turn into a PressAsFastAsYouCan mode...so you have to press as many buttons as you can (while the two chars on the screen smash each other automatically) --> the player who presses more often punches/kicks away the other player, which gets a fixed amount of damage.

- There is a PowerBeamCounter (when you perform the KHH with Goku, your opponent has a few seconds, if he reacts fast enough to perform a PowerBeamCounter (Majin Vegeta Final Flash for Example), the two beams meet in the middle of the screen --> then the press as fast as you can starts...with every press you have more than your opponent your beam goes into the direction of your opponent until 1.you win the battle by pressing 2.the short time is up and the one who is nearer to the opponent gets hurt!

-There is of course a Power Up and a Protection Aura (press X+Y for example and the Power Bar gets empty  for every second using the Protection Aura)

- There is NO Flying Mode. Some Chars just fly up for special attack and Zanzoken!

When the Rage Bar is filled up the chars can perform special attacks
Goku --> SSJ3 or Genkidama
Gohan (turning absolutely mad --> slow walk like before he kills Cell in the anime,then massive punch kick autocombo and One handed KHH)
Gotenks (SSJ3 -> Massive Ball Shoots)
Future Tunks (SSJ -> Massive Sword Combo and Blast Finish (FreezerDeath))
Vegeta (Suicide Move)
Broly (Massive Attack)
etc...
