So I read around and since Mugen can be run from the command line to start vs mode, I could create a Front end to do some things that Mugen does not support.

My question is, do I have the ability to send data to a front end after a match is over? I am just trying to think out in my head how the system would work.

1. Launch custom front end (easy enough)
2. Launch mugen from front end in versus mode with what every characters I want. (easy enough)
3. Once the match is over, how can I tell the front end to play a story board? Meaning lets say I win a match and want to progress the story. I need to be able to trigger mugen to close and the front end to take control again. This is where I am not sure what my options are.

Thanks

The only output Mugen gives is mugenw.log. You can have a look at it to see what kind of data it gives, and what you can make use of in it. I never checked it in detail but I'm not particularly sure it can give very specific information.

Nothing much of use in there. Going to scratch this idea and just work within the framework of Mugen.

Depending on what you are trying to do, you could stack information in the power variable, and parse that afterwards. You would have to edit common1.cns and any characters overrides for that file.

Boolean operators would be very helpful in this case.

In a full game this would be useful, otherwise not so much.

i think we should call it an "engine" so we don't look like total idiots because otherwise we'd be arguing about a "game" and that would be somehow "dumber" than arguing about an "engine" on the "internet" for countless hours

It gives VERY detailed info, actually. Really.

But I guess everything depends on how you wanted to code this. What language are you using?

I was going to use either VB.net or C#

I looked in the log file. The type of info that I would need is who one the match, who lost the match. And I am making a full game.

So what you are saying is that in theory I could write values to a power value. Does that get stored in a file? I am not sure what the power variables are at this point. If you could point me to some additional data that would be great.

Thanks.

What ?? ???

What the hell are you talking about

He's talking about a slightly incorrect comment from earlier in the thread that wouldn't do him any good at all.

That's all gibberish basically.

Well, thanks for the clarification.

DrStrange

So is there any way to use DisplayToClipboard to write to a file instead of the screen?

The only file mugen outputs is that mugenw thing. It can also write machine gibberish to a blah.ai file. But that's not understandable, and it kinda, changes every round. It's not anything you could rely on.

Basically, anything you need to customise has to be done in advance of playing through. This means a frontend, and all the customisation you needs right at the start.

You can make MUGEN write very detailed logs of every match using a CMD command. These logs contain data such as the winner's power level was well as the time that was left on the clock among other things.

I've considered a frontend myself in the past, but it's quite complicated considering you can't launch a team battle at will. (As in KOF-style, not simul).

There's also a way to force MUGEN into launching any mode automatically via memory hacking, but it's complicated to make it work right between computers. Not worth the effort.

DrStrange

Can you provide an example of that CMD command?

winmugen -log <logfile> Records match data to <logfile>

DrStrange

wow, that's it? I will try it tonight. Thanks.
