I see all kinds of talk around different sites about how much they "hate" Ryu and that he is the worst thing to hit Fighting Games. What are some reasons why people would say that?

Jesuszilla

Design's pretty basic, has projectiles, great for beginners yet pros can play him like hell.

This, and the fact that he's usually the basis of every main character in another fighting game (except when he's not) and also the reason the main character (and usually the similarly-playing rival) are usually, if not always, some of the hardest characters to fight in Arcade mode (except when they're not).

I could give examples, but I'm not.
i cant count the reasons i should stay

one by one they all just fade away...

Because he has no personality, design is boring as shit, and he hasn't changed one damn bit since he showed up

Kinda wish they went back to his SF1 design though, at least there he had 'ALLLLLRIGHT'

which is also why people love ryu. dumb thread.

Jesuszilla

You either love him or hate him.

Titiln

i don't hate ryu i just find just about every other street fighter character more interesting be it design, storyline and/or movelist

TempesT

Pretty much ^ that.

I don't love him or hate him. I recommend anyone learning a Street Fighter game play as him first though, all his moves are basically the template of the fundamentals

Street fighting is all about analysis, prediction, and reaction. That's it.

As has been said, he's the generic standard fighter.
Not really much to love or hate about that.  :-\

[Mr. A] Posted the perfect example of the typical Ryu player there  :-X

I hate Ryu mainly because like 90% of my online battles are Ryu users and most are just spamming Special moves (Hadouken, Shoryuken ect.) But the problem is that most Ryu players I've fought are shit and are just plain horrible for thinking "SPECIAL SPAM? THATS COCK IN THE MORNING FOR MEH!!"

I don't mind when people use Ryu the RIGHT way though

K.O.D

He's boring, that's all. Both in gameplay and personality.

You clearly have never played Ryu in TVC, where he is without a doubt one of the most fun characters to play.

But yeah I can understand why people think his personality is boring.  But when you're a martial arts master you kind of have to be obsessed with the fight and be dedicated to training every day.  That's just how it is.  So although his boring-ness is justified, so is people's dislike for his personality.

No, the funnest characters were Yatterman-1 and Roll. Ryu would be near the bottom of the list.
