Ryu and Ken,

    I have heard different stories on this... Some people say they are not biologically related at all, but they are close friends who are like brothers... I've also heard some other places that they are in fact, half brothers, and that they share the same father... This meaning Ken is half Japanese by blood... If I'm not mistaken, Ken did hail from Japan in SF1?
 
     So what is the official story on this? Did it start off as they were biological half brothers, but then they changed the storylines during the SF2 boom or something?

Don't know about the whole "Ryu's mother died giving birth to him and father disappeared" part (not saying you're wrong, haven't seen/heard anything about that is all). What I know/heard of as far as Ryu's parents are concerned is that he's an orphan and that he doesn't know about what happened to his parents.

       Ah ok, that makes more sense... That would explain why Ken would be fighting out of Japan in SF1 also. So Ryu then, grew up hard and grew up a lot more street tough and street wise than Ken did... That also explains Ryu's loner sort of wanderer personality.

Ryu is known as an orphan japanese child adopted by Gouken. Ken's father is close friend of Gouken and he gave Ken to teach martial arts and some discipline. Ryu and Ken become good friends and also there's a healthy rivaltry between them

Also, in Japan the concept of "brotherhood" is not exclusive to bloodties, also refers to a close friendship and a deep sense of respect for the other person. The best example (IMO) is in the anime Outlaw Star, where Jim Hawking always called "aniki" (like "big brother") to Gene Starwind instead by his name

     Is Ken half Japanese though?

     I know he fought out of Japan in SF1, but it may be just because he was trained there.... But in some of his large portrait pics (like the really oldschool one from SF2) he had Asian looking eyes...
