I can see them work in a style similar to The King of Fighters

Well, they both have the same premise. Kind of.

If Super Smash Bros. went in the way of The King of Fighters(or another 2D fighter), how do you think it will go?

Probably depends of the year many games are released, teams of 3(or 4), different bosses, gimmicks.

Would it be Mario, Luigi, & Yoshi, or Mario, Luigi, & and Peach?

Randomish

Welcome to the House of Fighting.

I cant see it happening.
A typical 1-on-1 fighter with the likes of Link and Samus Aran?

Orochi Gill

This would be horrible as you're using things with two incredibly different styles.

Not to mention mashing a fighting game with something that isn't.

Duos.act

Nintendo is the biggest gaming company in the world.

KOF is pretty much a cult favorite series.

This doesn't have much likelihood of actually occurring.

Starlogical

I swear as we speak, someone is making this happen in Mugen.
Someone is probably spriteswapping a random Kyo and placing Mario sprites in to take its place at the moment.

XANDERAC

Seeing the Smash series, play like the KOF series would be interesting, though unlikely.

But hey, you never know, they've always got weirdo spin-off games like Guilty Gear, being a 2D fighter, going Smash-style (although not that well) in GG - Dust Strikers for DS.

Or an ever weirder spin-off, King of Fighters - Sky Stage.

That was a weird enough spin-off  :P.

There's also 119's Mario, a custom made mugen character who looks like an SNK sprite, but is a Nintendo character.

Okay. Think of it this way.

Just a simple traditional fighter with Nintendo characters?

Just why I choose KOF? Well like I said, they both kind of have the same premise.

A Massive Multiplayer Crossover featuring characters from different games(some obscure) from the same company, where they fight in a tournament to face the one that sponsored the whole damn thing in the first place. Also, there are a HUGE list a characters from both companies.

It's like you guys have something from The Big N.

So, can Nintendo characters work in a traditional fighter? And if not, then why?

It already has. Soul Calibur II anyone?

Unless of course you mean traditional as in 2D fighters... Dont see it happening and dont particularly care at this point

I still insist on a Blazblue/Guilty Gear crossover. It's way way better than mixing something that isn't a fighting game with something that it is.

Why don't you just grab RP characters? He has two of them that uses SSBB fighting system (or at least they're supposed to use that). Touhou + SSBB is not something bizarre, IMO.

I'm NOT talking about the SSB System! I mean can a Nintendo(Nintendo in General, NOT JUST SBB) character work with a 4-button(or 6-button in Capsule Computers' case) configuration? Like if the Mario Bros. being shotoclones.

Nintendo DID make 2 1-on-1 fighters(Joy Mech Fight and Photo Dojo). I CAN see them trying, at least. If you can't , tell me why.

the only way i could see nintendo making a 2d fighting game or something like soul calibur would be a fire emblem fighting game

Fire Emblem is fine the way it is. Do you want to see something similar to the Castlevania game? I still am bitter about it.

I think it'd be pretty awesome. But I'm not sure how it'd be pulled off well without being a Soul Calibur clone.

If it's a spinoff, then I don't mind.

But hey, just look at SSBB. Even if it's not a fighting game, you can still see how it looks when you decide to do something like this. Or maybe that wasn't the best example around :-\

I don't see why not. But I also don't see the thought crossing Nintendo's mind anytime soon.
