A Japanese Tales fansite/blog is reporting that an upcoming magazine will reveal DragonBall Kai: Ultimate Butôden as a fighting game for the Nintendo DS game set for release rather soon on 03 February 2011 for the standard price of ¥5040.

UPDATE: Jump scans are starting to float out there, confirming everything we have been reading so far:

We know that Namco-Bandai is working on a game for the 3DS, but if this news is true, it will be the first (and possibly last?) fighting game for the regular Nintendo DS since 2005's Bukû Ressen (released stateside as Super Sonic Warriors 2). While the PSP has exclusively seen fighting games (four in total), the library of DS games has included traditional role playing, action/adventure, fighting, and more.

This would be the second game to receive the Kai branding in Japan — the first was DragonBall Kai: Saiya-jin Raishû (also for the Nintendo DS), released stateside as DragonBall Z: Attack of the Saiyans last year.

How did I miss that? Oh well, hopefully it'll be fun. Still wish they'd work on another Burst Limit as that was fantastic and every scene was done over awesomely.  :(

A fighting game in the Nintendo DS?

God, I still have nightmares from that GG conversion.

for reference, this was the last butoden.

check 3.50 for a cool thing on this system. 3d planes.
it also had the tradeable hyper move, where during the buildup of a hyper move you could input a command to attempt to divert the attack using your ki or health to alter the route of the incoming beam.

check 6.20 for platforms.

DMK

I had that an UB22. Such great and simple fun those games were. Oh and I'd like another Super Dragonball Z. Hyper Super Dragonball Z would be fine.  8)

God, gameplay looks confusing, changing all the time between air and ground.

Btw, this is the Dragon Ball: Attack of the Saiyans for DS.

It's an RPG... --;

Ub22 was a stripped down version of this game, the sprites were so compressed that gotenks head was as big as goku torso.
shin butoden was the superior version, with the 3d planes and platforms.
The butoden series comes from the snes and had a game on the genesis as well, it introduced the split screen with a button dedicated to changing air or ground plane.

The genesis version was fucking awesome.

DMK

Yeah. They tried to make it up by adding a few other characters, but it was so slow and cumbersome compared to the speed, lookouts, attacks and just sooo many other better things from Shin Butoden.

The DBZ RPGs are usually fantastic. Some much time spent on the card game for GBA and Legacy of Goku.

Well, I was surprised it was an RPG. I thought he put an example of a Dragon Ball DS fighting game there, not a RPG.

DMK

Oh well fair enough, but Super Sonic Warriors are worth a look.

you mean this one?

yes. best version, if only because it put all the buttons in three buttons instead of four, and you had to do back forward A for a basic fireball ( instead of pressing y repeatedly on snes) so you had to be more thoughtful on how you were using your energy moves.

And it had kuririn !!!! Just lacked Broly to make my dream come true.
I played this game so much I believe I found every single bug it had. I could even make the game crash when I wanted to. :D

Iced

i played it so much that i found the hidden meteor moves, I always wondered why the fuck there was a empty slot on the selection screen, goddamn empty slot always taunted me.

I really really fucking love the system, they made an effort to be cinematic with the little they had. to this day , whenever i see characters flying off screen and crashing into something I lol heartly.

BrunOz

I loved the soundtrack on UB22, so good and so memorable, I played that game a lot during my childhood but I surely can't stand playing it more than 30 seconds today  :laugh4:

DMK

Damn near every DBZ game ever made had some good music, but the earliest ones had some for every single level. I love Trunks theme and the Namek theme from DBGT: FInal Bout.
