Sorry, I can't enable that mod. It's a HUGE hit on performance, for whatever reason. I'll see if there's something else we can use.

Seriously, it's enabled and BAM 100% cpu on both cores with page load times of ~6 seconds, disabled and we're at normal level with 0.2 seconds load times. No dice.

is there a chance the performance hit was the mod changing every single post that had a youtube link in it?

no, posts are stored like you write them and parsed only when displayed. there is caching, but it's obviously not enough..
