Something about being a designated time to smoke weed (4:20 PM) and somehow it became a date or something. I don't remember.

Gill's right, it was the time a group a friends "the waldos" would go after school and smoke, they then started going around to one another and would say "420" when they wanted to smoke, the phrase got around and caught on in california, which then created the stoner holiday 4 20.

On an unrelated note it is also Hitler's birthday. On a related note to both the birthday and the waldos, is the date selected by the so-called Trench-coat mafia to shoot their classmates at Columbine high school. You will see the number is several movies and shows, including the Simpsons. The weirdest one I seen was a commercial with people watching a guy spontaneously combust through a window as some sort of research test.... The clock above the window was broken on 4:20. I forgot what the product was.

420 has been considered a holliday of sorts. Great parties can be found on that date as well as concerts. I saw Korn and Rob Zombie play a 420 show back in the late 90s... Good show.

If you smoke pot I recommend you buy one of these... After all... It is always 4:20 somewhere.
