Are we currently in the reawakening of fighting games?

At first I thought all these fighting games coming out was about average... I thought with MvC3, SF4, and Blazblue we would be set for the next decade.

But what is going on now?

There is a SHITLOAD of new games in progress or already out...

KOFXIII
New Guilty Gear (TBA)
Aquapazza (Queen of Hearts)
Skullgirls
Ougen blahboahblah I dont know the name
Mortal Kombat 9
SFxT
Tekken Tag Tourny 2
TxSF
SF4: Koryu (lol)
BlazBlue 2?

It's like a new revolution of fighting games. Personally I think the reason why all these new fighters are coming out... is because or Yoshinori Ono.

His success with SF4 (2008) --> 2010/11 SSF4/AE era has inspired a shitload of other companies to throw out new fighters as well.

Maybe it isn't Yoshinori Ono.... but one must think to himself, was it not SF4 and SSF4 that not only rehyped the fighting game scene, but brought in a shitload of new players as well?

i don't know, I just find it interesting to speculate

SNT

Renaissance is a word that describes a period of revival in a medium inspired solely by love for the culture.  That age passed for videogames long ago.  If anything we're in the videogames industrial revolution, where the revival, sustaining and dying of a genre is determined solely by how profitable it is.

Duos.act

Definitely SF4 that set this off.  Capcom took a pretty big gamble, but the success of SF4 is a large factor in the revival of the genre.

Nero D.

wouldnt call it a revival so much as a return to the manstream/casuals

the fighting game genre never died it just fell off the radar for a while but its always been there even if in that while it was a niche to some with the annoying surge in fps war games set during FUCKING WORLD WAR 2 that made people stop playing fighting games for the longest time

but yeah fighting games have always been there regardless of that drought

see: evo
i cant count the reasons i should stay

one by one they all just fade away...

Daisuke Ishiwatari pulled the plug because you're too old to be playing games.
