Iced: about the pots thing, I got the files in place now but I'm not sure how to link to them from his site.. should I add a news-article-ish thing?

Add them to the chars page with a note stating where they are from , maybe a link to the thread with more explanations.

now we just need to get everyone to put [preview] tags at the start of their release msgs. when they appear in a message they are just hidden, they need to be in the first 368 characters of a first message to show up as preview like that.

image size is limited to 320x240, that seemed like a good size.

i tried 640x480 on another mockup and it was excessive so 320x240 is good

Thats a freaking awesome idea. That should also cut out those silly post like "I thought this X not Y!" Like the country flag icon too.

Cant it use the img tags on those first 368 chars? that way the users wouldnt have to change whatever they do.

Technically yeah, but I think I'd like users to stay in control about that.

This works in all forums right now, should that be restricted? While its purpose is to be used in the releases forum I can't think of any harm that could come from it on other forums..

I dunno I kinda prefer them to select it by having the first picture be selected by them, that way you dont have to teach them every single time a new one releases a thing.  It wont be much of a preview until people make good use of it.

Having it disappear from the thread and just show on preview also makes people more likely to just put a logo in there or something, kinda defeats the point

having it read the first image posted in the thread would retroactively get good previews for 90-95% of all release threads

Still a good point. Enabled retroactive parsing of [img] for when there's no [preview] tag. Still don't like to restrict users to a certain formatting of their messages for technical reasons. We'll see how it goes like this, it will probably work out either way.

Should there be a column for the preview images so everything can line up nicely? I don't know what would be in place for topics without images, though, perhaps a preview of the texts inside the threads. =p

if it were columns i'd make it an empty space when no preview was found. i also wouldn't bother with previews of text because i don't think that's worth the hassle

add the img previewer to the found releases and edits and addons as well!

And decide if you want to keep the previewer for the rest of the forum, right now the preview tags work everywhere else.

yeah why not, I can see that being useful in the non-mugen discussion forums, and the other mugen forums obviously.

not sure this is the right place to say it but just wanted to say that the new preview picture system for releases is awesome.
