I've been noticing that my current project in MUGEN 1.1 currently takes upwards of five-to-ten minutes to simply load up, but otherwise is fairly fluid and usable when it does finally load up.

So far, my biggest clue is the fact that the SFF file is indeed well over 1 GB in size and I feel that it probably is the biggest cause for the program to load so slowly in the first place. From what I can see from my source files, the images are primarily animations that run in the background for about 2,000-3000 frames for a total of 300-400 MB each when looking at the entire strip.

Is there anything I could do to make these images much smaller for use in something like Fighter Factory 3 to at least make MUGEN load much faster without jeopardizing the quality of the images I am using?

Are your sprites cropped?

I would be honest to say that they are not, but the large images I am working with are already filling up an entire 1280x720 box so I am personally not sure what cropping will do. I will give that a try, however.

Wow, jesus. Keep in mind that SFFs are loaded into memory as-is, I can't really grasp the idea of a 1 GB SFF.

What kind of setup do you have to need such a huge SFF? Usually it can be resolved by programming the animations rather than making a pageflip.

I can understand the reasoning behind that. I've currently stripped those images out of the project so I can throw those back in when I can find a better method of implementing it. The reason why this file was so big was simply because the source was a .wmv file (a video) that I ripped frame-by-frame and turned what used to be a 70 MB file into a 500 MB stream of images.

In all other news, what isn't a video file has already been animated by use of Fighty Factory 3.

Mugen is very bad at handling RAM, so opening something like 1 GB Sff's are bound to take ages. Even a JeanBereau stage takes forever for me to load :P
